Start with Marvel’s Spider-Man 2. It is the closest PS5 substitute for the web-swinging, cinematic action and Peter Parker/Miles Morales continuity you are waiting to continue. If you have already completed it, choose your next game by structure: Marvel’s Guardians of the Galaxy for a linear, character-led campaign; Marvel’s Midnight Suns for turn-based tactics and team relationships; Gotham Knights for open-world Batman-family patrols and co-op; Marvel Rivals for competitive team PvP; or MARVEL Tōkon: Fighting Souls for tag-team fighting.
No confirmed Spider-Man 3 release date is established here, so the recommendations below focus on games you can play on PS5 now rather than promising a particular waiting period.

The best PS5 superhero game for most Spider-Man fans
Marvel’s Spider-Man 2 is the obvious first choice because it preserves the parts of the formula that make the wait feel relevant: fast traversal through an open world, cinematic superhero combat and a story built around both Peter Parker and Miles Morales. PlayStation’s official PS5 catalog identifies it as the next major entry featuring those returning protagonists.

Its open-world design also gives it a different rhythm from the other recommendations: you can move between story missions, exploration and optional activity instead of progressing through a strictly linear campaign.

How the PS5 choices differ
The table separates the games by the dimensions that matter most when looking for games like Spider-Man 2 on PS5. Exact campaign durations are not stated in the available official descriptions, so the table describes structure rather than inventing playtime numbers.
| Game | Campaign shape and length | Traversal or mobility | Combat | Solo or multiplayer focus | Universe |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| Marvel’s Spider-Man 2 | Open-world campaign; length not stated | Web-swinging and superhero movement | Cinematic real-time action | Primarily solo | Marvel |
| Marvel’s Spider-Man: Miles Morales | Shorter, focused campaign; length not stated | Spider-Man traversal | Real-time superhero action | Primarily solo | Marvel |
| Marvel’s Guardians of the Galaxy | Linear, self-contained campaign; length not stated | Movement through authored levels rather than open-world swinging | Real-time team combat | Solo, with the team directed by the player | Marvel |
| Marvel’s Midnight Suns | Story campaign with mission-based progression; length not stated | No traversal-first open world | Turn-based tactics with deck and card decisions | Solo | Marvel |

Marvel’s Spider-Man 2: the closest bridge to Spider-Man 3
Choose this first if your priority is the feeling of being Spider-Man rather than simply playing a game with a comic-book license. Web-swinging supplies the defining mobility, while real-time combat and cinematic presentation keep the action close to the tone associated with the series. Having Peter Parker and Miles Morales as the central heroes also makes it the most direct continuity choice.
Why it matches the wait
- Traversal: Web-swinging is the baseline that none of the other games in this list reproduces.
- Structure: The open-world format lets you alternate between story missions and free exploration.
- Combat: Real-time superhero action is immediately readable if you are coming from an earlier Spider-Man game.
- Platform: PlayStation lists it in the official PS5 catalog.
Start here even if you are tempted by a newer multiplayer release. A competitive game can fill evenings, but it will not provide the same single-player continuation of Peter and Miles’ arc.
Marvel’s Spider-Man: Miles Morales: the focused catch-up option
Marvel’s Spider-Man: Miles Morales is the natural choice when you want another Spider-Man campaign without committing to the larger scope of Spider-Man 2. PlayStation lists it among PS5 games, and its shorter, more focused format makes it useful as either a replay or a catch-up session before returning to the series.
The appeal is concentration. You still get Spider-Man traversal and real-time action, but the experience is presented as a tighter solo adventure rather than another broad open-world investment. That makes it suitable when you want to refresh your familiarity with Miles Morales specifically, or when you have limited time before moving on to another genre.
Pick it when
- You want Spider-Man movement and combat but a more compact commitment.
- You are replaying the series in character order and want Miles’ story foregrounded.
- You prefer a solo experience and do not need competitive or cooperative features.
It is not a replacement for the larger two-hero scope of Spider-Man 2; it is the better choice when focus matters more than breadth.

Marvel’s Guardians of the Galaxy: the best linear Marvel campaign
Choose Marvel’s Guardians of the Galaxy when what you want from a superhero game is a self-contained story and an ensemble cast rather than open-world traversal. Its linear structure gives the campaign a deliberate, authored pace: you move through the narrative instead of deciding which part of a city to patrol next.
Rank #2
- 1237216
The Guardians setup changes your role. You are not swapping between independent heroes to cover a map; you are leading a team through a character-driven adventure and coordinating the group during combat. That emphasis makes relationships and dialogue part of the core appeal, not an optional distraction between action sequences.
What to expect
- Campaign: A self-contained, linear Marvel story; an exact duration is not stated.
- Mobility: Movement serves authored levels rather than free web-swinging across an open city.
- Combat: Real-time encounters are built around directing a team.
- Play style: Solo progression with an ensemble cast.
This is the strongest alternative when your favorite Spider-Man moments are the banter, character arcs and cinematic set pieces. It is not the pick for players whose main requirement is unrestricted traversal.
Marvel’s Midnight Suns: tactical combat and hero relationships
Marvel’s Midnight Suns suits players who are ready to trade swinging for planning. Its combat is turn-based, and deck or card decisions determine which abilities are available and how you combine them on each turn. The result is a superhero game about sequencing actions and building a team rather than reacting in real time.
Between missions, the game’s hero relationships provide another layer of progression. You spend time developing bonds and shaping a roster, so the campaign’s appeal comes from both tactical battles and the choices involved in assembling a group that works together.
Why it belongs on a Spider-Man waiting list
- It offers a different Marvel fantasy instead of imitating web-swinging.
- Turn-based encounters let you think through positioning, card plays and team combinations.
- Relationship systems give solo players an ongoing reason to engage with the heroes outside missions.
A PS5 version is available. Choose it if you would rather experiment with builds and deliberate turns than repeat real-time city patrols. Players seeking uninterrupted action should select one of the real-time options instead.
Gotham Knights: open-world DC patrols and co-op
Gotham Knights is the answer for readers who want the open-world freedom of Spider-Man 2 but are happy to leave Marvel for DC. The playable focus is Batman’s wider family, and the game frames Gotham as a place to patrol with those heroes rather than as a backdrop for a single Spider-Man.
Its defining distinction is cooperative play. You can patrol alone or work with another player, making it the most direct option here for shared open-world superhero activity. The campaign remains an action adventure, but the social choice changes how you approach encounters and exploration.

- You want a city to explore instead of a sequence of linear levels.
- You prefer Batman-family characters and DC’s setting to another Marvel roster.
- You want the option of cooperative patrols rather than a strictly solo campaign.
Do not choose it expecting Spider-Man-style swinging. Its mobility and hero abilities serve Gotham’s patrol design, while the combat remains real-time. It is a structural alternative—open-world superhero play with co-op—not a direct mechanical copy.

Marvel Rivals: competitive Marvel matches on PS5
Marvel Rivals is for readers whose ideal wait is filled with repeatable matches instead of a finite story. NetEase describes it as a “Super Hero Team-Based PVP Shooter” for PS5, built around an evolving roster of Marvel heroes and villains.
The shift from campaign to competition is substantial. There is no traditional Spider-Man-style story progression to complete; the central loop is assembling a team, learning a character’s role and coordinating against another team. Mobility exists inside the rules of each arena and hero kit, not as free traversal across a persistent city.
Important practical differences
- Format: Team-based player-versus-player shooter.
- Roster: Marvel heroes and villains, with an evolving lineup.
- Audience: Players who enjoy matchmaking, teamwork and improving across repeated games.
- Cost model: It is primarily a digital free-to-play recommendation; current availability and live-service details can change.
Pick Marvel Rivals when you want Marvel characters to remain part of your regular multiplayer rotation. Skip it if your priority is a conclusion, exploration or a solo narrative.
MARVEL Tōkon: Fighting Souls: tag-team fighting
MARVEL Tōkon: Fighting Souls is the specialist choice for fighting-game fans. PlayStation Blog describes it as a tag-team Marvel fighter supporting 2v2 and 4v4 formats. A later PlayStation Blog announcement gives the PS5 and PC launch date as August 6, 2026.
Instead of traversing a city or directing a squad through an adventure, you build a team for discrete fights and switch or coordinate characters according to the match format. The appeal is precision, matchup knowledge and the energy of Marvel characters sharing a competitive fighting system.
Choose Tōkon when
- You want short, repeatable matches rather than a long campaign.
- Team composition and tag mechanics interest you more than exploration.
- You prefer local or online fighting-game sessions, subject to the modes available in the released version.
It is a very different answer to the Spider-Man problem, but that difference is its strength. If you have already completed the narrative games and want a mechanically focused Marvel game, Tōkon fills that space. Physical-edition availability can vary by region, so check the current PS5 listing before assuming a disc release.

If traversal is non-negotiable
Play Marvel’s Spider-Man 2 first, then Miles Morales. They are the only choices here built around Spider-Man-style movement as the central fantasy. Gotham Knights is the next-best structural alternative if open-world patrol matters more than web-swinging itself.

Choose Guardians of the Galaxy for a linear, self-contained Marvel campaign. Choose Spider-Man 2 or Miles Morales when continuity with Peter and Miles is more important than a new cast.

- Miles morales discovers explosive powers that set him apart from his mentor, peter parker. Master his unique, bio-electric venom Blast attacks and covert camouflage power alongside spectacular web-slinging acrobatics, gadgets and skills.
- A war for control of Marvel's new York has broken out between a devious Energy Corporation and a high-tech criminal army. With his new home at the heart of the battle, miles must learn the cost of becoming a hero.
- Traverse the snowy streets of his new, vibrant and bustling Neighborhood as miles searches for a sense of belonging. When the lines blur between his personal and crime-fighting lives, he discovers who he can trust, and what it feels like to truly be home.
If you want systems and planning
Midnight Suns is the clear fit. Its turn-based combat and card decisions provide depth without requiring fast reactions, while its relationship systems give the roster a role outside battles.
If you want to play with others
Use Gotham Knights for cooperative open-world patrols, Marvel Rivals for competitive team PvP, or Tōkon for tag-team fighting. These are different social formats, so decide whether you want shared exploration, team-versus-team matches or head-to-head fighting.
If Marvel versus DC is the deciding factor
Every recommendation except Gotham Knights is Marvel. Pick Gotham Knights when Batman-family heroes and Gotham are the attraction; pick one of the Marvel games when the universe and roster matter more than the exact mechanics.

A sensible PS5 play order while you wait
- Finish or replay Marvel’s Spider-Man 2. This gives you the closest available continuation of the Peter-and-Miles formula.
- Use Miles Morales as a focused refresher. It is shorter and keeps Spider-Man traversal at the center.
- Switch to Guardians of the Galaxy for a linear story. The change of structure prevents another open-world campaign from feeling repetitive.
- Play Midnight Suns when you want a slower, strategic Marvel session. Its turn-based systems offer a clean break from real-time combat.
- Move to Gotham Knights for co-op patrols. This adds DC characters and a shared open-world option.
- Keep Marvel Rivals or Tōkon for repeatable multiplayer. Choose the shooter for team PvP or the fighter for tag-based matches.
This order is not a release chronology; it is a way to rotate campaign structure, combat pace and multiplayer commitment so that every game contributes something distinct.
Availability, editions and changing live-service details
All recommendations above are presented as PS5 choices, but editions and regional listings can change. Check the current PlayStation Store or retailer listing for the edition you intend to buy, especially for physical copies of Tōkon and older boxed games. Do not assume that a disc, deluxe edition or local-language release is available in every region.
Marvel Rivals is primarily digital and free to play, while its roster and service features can evolve. That makes it a different commitment from a self-contained campaign. For any game with online or cooperative features, confirm the current network requirements and service status on the platform listing before you plan a group session.
What is known about the Spider-Man 3 wait
The information available for this guide does not establish a confirmed release date for Spider-Man 3. Treat the phrase “while waiting” as the reader’s situation, not as a timetable. The safest plan is to choose a game that is satisfying on its own: Spider-Man 2 for continuity, Guardians for a contained story, Midnight Suns for strategy, Gotham Knights for co-op exploration, Marvel Rivals for ongoing PvP, or Tōkon for competitive tag fighting.
