The right choice depends on whether you want the biggest change from the default silhouette, a design that reinforces the fighter’s established personality, or a more playful or dramatic presentation. Capcom’s official announcements confirm the shared Outfit 3 release and its collection-level themes, but they do not establish character-by-character design rankings. Costume preference is especially personal in a fighting game. You see the outfit during character select, introductions, rounds, victories, replays, and online matches, so a design that looks excellent in a still image may feel less convincing in motion. Capcom announced Outfit 3 for the 18 characters in the launch roster, with release on December 1, 2023. The announcement describes the collection as drawing on illustrations in the game, different cultures, and humor, rather than presenting every character’s design in a detailed written breakdown. Best costume approach for Zangief
Choose silhouette first if you want the strongest visual change
Zangief’s identity is communicated through mass, posture, and close-range movement. When comparing his default and alternate costumes, focus on whether the clothing changes the outline of his shoulders, chest, waist, and legs without obscuring the visual information that makes his throws and lariats easy to read. A successful high-contrast choice remains recognizable at match distance and in the small character portraits used in menus.
Look at the costume from the side and rear as well as the front. Large straps, coats, belts, or other accessories can create a dramatic outline in the introduction but appear less distinct during gameplay. Check a full match replay if you are deciding between two options that look similar in a static preview.
Choose character fit if you want “classic Zangief”
If your priority is continuity with Zangief’s established wrestling persona, select the outfit that keeps his physical strength and ring-ready presence at the center. Favor designs whose materials and accessories support a professional wrestler or imposing powerhouse rather than competing with him for attention. This is a subjective judgment: the game’s official collection announcement does not name a definitive “most authentic” Zangief costume.
Choose humor or drama deliberately
Capcom says the Outfit 3 collection draws partly on humor. If you enjoy a playful Zangief, choose the preview that makes the joke legible in silhouette and animation rather than one whose humor depends on a tiny detail. For a dramatic presentation, prioritize strong color blocking and a clean outline that remains imposing during his largest attacks.
Zangief recommendation: For silhouette-focused players, pick the alternate with the clearest shoulder-and-torso change; for classicists, pick the one that preserves a ring-ready powerhouse image; for playful players, pick the design whose humor is visible at gameplay distance. There is no source-supported basis for naming one of those outcomes as a universal winner.
Best costume approach for E. Honda
Preserve readability of the sumo-inspired stance
E. Honda’s broad base, forward pressure, and hand-focused attacks make movement readability important. Compare how each costume frames his shoulders, arms, hands, and legs while he crouches, charges, and performs Hundred Hand Slap. A design that looks detailed in a close-up can become visually busy when those rapid hand motions fill the screen.

Check the preview under the game’s normal match lighting, not only the brighter character-select lighting. Dark fabric, bright trim, or headwear may change how clearly you can distinguish his hands and face once the round begins.
Classic, humorous, or dramatic Honda
A classic choice should reinforce E. Honda’s recognizable sumo identity and his confident, larger-than-life personality. A humorous choice works best when the joke is apparent in the overall styling rather than hidden in a small accessory. A dramatic choice should use shape and color to make his advances and charge attacks feel forceful without reducing his facial and hand visibility.
Because the cited announcements describe Outfit 3 at collection level, they do not verify which E. Honda design best represents any of these categories. Treat your selection as a preference match: choose the outfit that makes you want to use the character, then verify that it still reads clearly during actual rounds.
E. Honda recommendation: If you want continuity, favor the most unmistakably sumo-forward silhouette in your current preview. If you want novelty, favor the option with the largest change to his torso and head area while keeping his hands easy to follow. If you want comedy, choose the outfit whose visual gag remains clear in motion.
Best costume approach for Dhalsim
Test extended limbs and effects, not only the standing pose
Dhalsim’s unusually long limbs and teleporting movement expose weaknesses that may not appear in a character portrait. Preview each costume during long-range normals, Yoga Fire, teleport, and victory animations. Inspect whether fabric, ornaments, or color transitions remain coherent when his arms and legs stretch across the screen.
Also compare the outfit’s contrast against common stage backgrounds. Dhalsim spends more time controlling space than standing next to the opponent, so a costume that blends into the arena can be less satisfying even if its close-up details are excellent.
Classic spirituality versus theatrical change
For a classic presentation, choose the design that maintains a calm, spiritual, ascetic impression and leaves his gestures visually legible. For a dramatic presentation, look for the outfit that creates the largest change in color, fabric movement, or ornamentation without hiding his face and hands. A humorous choice can work, but it should not make the long-range animations difficult to parse.
There is no official character-specific ranking in the cited material. Your best Dhalsim costume is therefore the one that balances the mood you want with clear visibility during his extended attacks.

Dhalsim recommendation: Pick the most distinctive option if you value spectacle, the most restrained option if you value continuity, and the option with the cleanest limb contrast if you play primarily for competitive readability.

- Open the current costume preview. Use the character-select or customization screen for Zangief, E. Honda, and Dhalsim. Menu names can vary by platform and update, so rely on the costume and color labels shown by your installation.
- Record the baseline. Note the default outfit’s dominant colors, shoulder and torso outline, headwear, and accessories before switching.
- Check the alternate from three angles. Review front, side, and rear views. Ask whether the silhouette changes or whether the difference is mainly color and trim.
- Play a short practice sequence. For Zangief, use a throw, Spinning Piledriver, and lariat. For E. Honda, use charge attacks and Hundred Hand Slap. For Dhalsim, use long-range normals, Yoga Fire, and teleport. These moves reveal movement, visibility, and accessory behavior.
- Check introductions and victories. Some details only become visible during non-round animations. Decide whether those details improve the character or distract from the presentation you want.
- Compare colors only after choosing the cut. Ten colors were included with the original-cast Outfit 3 release according to Capcom France’s December 2023 report; color preference should not hide that the underlying costume shape may be the real difference.
- Make a preference-based ranking. Give each outfit a score from one to five for silhouette change, character fit, tone, and match readability. Weight the category that matters most to you instead of averaging automatically.
Cost, access, and what is actually included
Capcom France reported in December 2023 that each original-cast Outfit 3 cost 300 Fighter Coins and included ten colors. That is a historical release-era figure, not a verified price for the live store in 2026. The same report said Outfit 3 could not be unlocked through World Tour mode. The current pass announcement is available from the Capcom Town Store. It explicitly states that Street Fighter 6 must be purchased separately to use the passes. Before buying, compare the live store description with the content already in your account; avoid paying twice for a costume included in an edition or pass you already own.

Buy one standalone costume when appearance is your only goal
If you only want one fighter’s alternate look, a standalone purchase can be the simplest route, provided the live store still lists the costume at a price you accept. Use the in-game preview first and verify the listing’s platform and region.
Consider the Ultimate Pass when you also want pass characters
The Ultimate Pass is relevant when you want Outfit 2 and Outfit 3 together with the associated Character Pass content. It is not a substitute for the base game, which must be owned separately. Compare the pass contents and your existing entitlements before checkout.
Do not buy a physical copy expecting DLC outfits
A physical base game can get you into Street Fighter 6, but the cited materials do not say that a disc includes Outfit 3. Treat the game and costume access as separate products unless the exact edition packaging and store description state otherwise.
Final selection guide
- Choose Zangief’s option with the strongest torso and shoulder change if silhouette is your top priority.
