For creature storage, start with Dino Storage and compare it with Dino Depot, Super Cryo Storage or Pelayori’s Cryo Storage. For materials, use an automatic sorter such as CS Auto Storage or a stacking mod. These solve different problems: creature-storage mods package tames so they are easier to manage, while item-storage mods organize resources and reduce the number of separate stacks you handle. ASA mods are distributed through CurseForge, and every project ID and version should be checked on its current CurseForge page before you add it to a live server.
Which storage mod should you choose?
There is no single “best storage mod” for every ARK: Survival Ascended server. The right choice depends on whether your storage problem is a crowded breeding base, thousands of resource stacks, or both.

| Too many tames, cryopods or breeding creatures | Dino Storage | Community guides most often describe it as a soul-ball style creature-storage system that can reduce the number of actively simulated tames. |
| You want searchable creature records and breeding automation | Dino Depot | Guides report Dinoball stat tooltips, newborn auto-capture, passive-production tracking and search across stored creatures. |
| You want a cryopod replacement with sorting and search | Super Cryo Storage | Reported as expanded cryopod storage with organization tools. |
| You mainly want easier cryopod access | Pelayori’s Cryo Storage | Recommended in a community guide for players who want cryopods tuned to their preferred workflow. |
| Resource chests are disorganized | CS Auto Storage | Reported to sort resources into chests automatically. |
| Stacks and dropped items are creating clutter | A stacking mod such as HG Stacks | Larger stacks mean fewer item entries to move and, potentially, fewer item entities around a busy base. |
The names and features above come from community and hosting-provider guides rather than an official Studio Wildcard ranking. Mod projects change frequently, so treat the table as a shortlist, not a guarantee that a particular feature or ID still matches the current release.
Creature storage: the main answer to cryopod and tame-management problems
Creature-storage mods replace or extend the vanilla cryopod workflow. Instead of leaving dozens of tames deployed around a base, you capture them into a mod-specific container, then retrieve the creature when needed. The practical benefit is organization: a breeding line, production animal or combat mount can be stored with the rest of its group instead of occupying a pen.
#1 Best Overall
- Official ARK: Survival Evolved licensed merchandise, featuring the Dodo sculpted in textured iron
- Compact pin measuring about 1.6 in (4 cm) across and 0.5 in (1.2 cm) thick - light enough for caps, denim and tote bags
- Raised, textured surface gives the design real depth instead of a flat printed look
- Made in Japan - the pin back attaches securely and sits flat without dragging the fabric down
- A gift for ARK players, survival game fans, and dinosaur enthusiasts
Some guides also claim that stored creatures are not actively simulated and that soul-ball storage lowers the server’s tame count. Those are useful goals, but they are not published performance benchmarks. Test the behavior on your own map, server hardware and mod list before promising a performance improvement to players.
Dino Storage (v2/v3)
Dino Storage is the most frequently cited creature-storage option in the 2026 community guides reviewed for this topic. Guides describe creatures being stored as “soul balls,” with stored dinos no longer actively simulated. One list identifies the ASA project as Dino Storage v3 and gives project ID 927085; that ID is unverified and should be confirmed on CurseForge before it is placed in a launch command.
The v2/v3 wording matters. A server configured for one major version may not behave like a server using another. Check the current ASA file, supported game version, dependencies and migration notes. Do not assume that a configuration, item or saved creature created under an older release is automatically safe after an upgrade.
- Best fit: servers with large tame collections, breeding programs or limited pen space.
- Potential advantage: soul-ball storage and reduced active creature simulation, as reported by guides.
- Risk to manage: version changes and save compatibility; verify the current release before updating a live world.
- What is not established: no independent adoption or performance statistic was found.
Dino Depot
Dino Depot is presented as a newer alternative. The features attributed to it include Dinoballs with stat tooltips, automatic capture of newborn creatures, passive-production tracking and search across stored creatures. One list gives project ID 942024, but the attribution is low confidence and the ID must be checked against the current CurseForge project.
Its reported feature set is aimed at players who need more than a container. Stat tooltips can help identify a particular breeder without repeatedly deploying it; search can make a large collection usable; newborn capture may reduce the number of juveniles left around a hatchery. Those conveniences also create more points where a configuration mistake can matter. Test newborn capture and passive-production tracking with expendable creatures first, and document how players retrieve animals before enabling the mod on a production cluster.
- Best fit: breeding or farming servers that need searchable records and automation.
- Reported tools: stat tooltips, newborn auto-capture, passive-production tracking and creature search.
- Verification required: project identity, ID, supported ASA version and the exact behavior of automated capture.
Super Cryo Storage
Super Cryo Storage is described in one guide as expanded cryopod storage with sorting and search. A list gives project ID 928549, also unverified. This option is worth considering when your priority is a familiar cryopod-like workflow with better organization rather than a broad breeding-management system.
Recommended Free Tools
Before deployment, check how the mod handles ownership, imprinting, creature levels, inventories and any restrictions that vanilla cryopods impose. These details determine whether it is suitable for a competitive server, a cooperative PvE world or a breeding-only test map. If the current project page does not clearly document migration and recovery behavior, keep a separate backup and test on a copy of the save.
Pelayori’s Cryo Storage
Pelayori’s Cryo Storage is recommended by a ScreenRant guide for players who want cryopods that are easier to access and configurable to their playstyle. The available summary does not establish a current project ID, a supported ASA version or a complete feature list. That makes it a preference-driven option: inspect its current CurseForge description and changelog, then compare the actual controls with the workflow your server uses.
It may be a good choice if your group dislikes a more elaborate depot or automation system. It is not possible to infer from the recommendation alone that it reduces server load, changes tame limits or supports every creature-management feature offered by the other mods.
Item and resource storage mods
Creature storage does not sort ingots, stone or ammunition. If your problem is a wall of chests, choose a resource-storage or stacking mod separately.

CS Auto Storage
CS Auto Storage is described as part of Cybers Structures QoL+ and is listed with project ID 940975 in one guide. Its reported purpose is automatic resource sorting into chests. The summary does not establish the complete item taxonomy, supported structures or whether existing chests are reorganized automatically.
Before adding it to a mature base, test the sorter with a small set of common materials. Confirm what happens when a destination chest is full, when a resource has no matching category, and when two players deposit items simultaneously. Make sure players know whether they must use a particular container or interaction mode; an automatic system that is not explained to newcomers can look like lost loot.
Stacking mods
Guides commonly recommend HG Stacks and similar mods for larger resource stacks. Increasing stack sizes reduces the number of slots required in a chest and the number of separate item entries players move around. A guide also suggests that fewer item entities on the ground may help busy servers, but no published benchmark establishes a specific performance gain.
Stack changes affect more than convenience. They can alter weight calculations, harvest runs, crafting stations, spoilage or the amount of material a player can carry. Confirm how the current mod treats blueprints, ammunition, consumables and items with durability. If a server already has stored stacks from another configuration, changing stack sizes can create migration or duplication risks; back up the save and test the transition before updating.

Creator videos describe Big Storage Box as holding up to 300 items. No authoritative project page or verified specification was available for that claim, so treat “300” as an unconfirmed description rather than a guaranteed capacity. Check the current CurseForge listing, item limits and multiplayer permissions before relying on it for a warehouse.
Storage-adjacent mods that can complete a base workflow
Structures Plus (S+)
Structures Plus is described as the most-installed ASA mod in the guides reviewed, but it is a building overhaul, not a dedicated storage mod. Players often pair building overhauls with storage tools because better structures make it easier to design a dedicated warehouse, breeding room or sorting line. Install it only when you need its building changes; adding it does not automatically provide the creature-storage or resource-sorting features listed above.

Awesome Teleporters!
Awesome Teleporters! is a transport system for players, items and dinos. It does not replace a cryopod or chest, but it can change how a storage room is used: a remote mine, outpost or breeding area can send players or creatures back to a central base without building a path between every location. Treat it as logistics, not storage, and check its compatibility with your chosen creature-storage mod.

How to select a safe combination
- Define the bottleneck. Count whether the problem is deployed tames, cryopod access, chest organization or stack size. Choose one creature tool or one item tool for the first test instead of changing every storage mechanic at once.
- Check the current CurseForge page. Confirm the ASA label, game version, latest file date, dependencies, project ID, configuration instructions and whether the author documents save migration.
- Review interactions. A stacking mod can change weight and crafting behavior; a creature mod can affect ownership, imprinting and automated capture. Read the compatibility notes for your map, total conversion and other structures mods.
- Test on a copy. Create a backup, clone the save or use a test server, then move disposable items and creatures through every relevant operation before opening the feature to players.
- Roll out in stages. Add one storage mod, restart, verify the log and test retrieval. Only then add a second mod. Staged changes make it possible to identify which project caused a problem.
Installing ASA mods on a self-hosted server
Community installation guides state that ASA mods are distributed through CurseForge rather than Mod.io. Because the official Studio Wildcard dedicated-server documentation confirming that channel was not available in the material reviewed, verify the current distribution method in the mod’s own instructions and your server provider’s documentation.
For a self-hosted server, the guides describe adding numeric CurseForge project IDs to the launch line with -mods=. The server downloads the listed projects automatically on first startup. IDs shown in community lists are not authoritative, so replace the examples below with IDs copied from the current project pages.
-mods=927085,940975
That example represents a creature-storage project followed by an item-sorting project; it is illustrative only because both IDs require verification. Use commas with no spaces, as described by the installation guides.
Installation procedure
- Stop the server cleanly. Do not edit a launch command while the world is writing a save.
- Back up the save and configuration. Keep the backup outside the live save directory so a failed update cannot overwrite it.
- Copy the verified project IDs. Use the current CurseForge project page, not an old blog, video description or forum comment.
- Add
-mods=to the launch parameters. Separate multiple IDs with commas and no spaces. - Put the map or total-conversion mod first. The guides state that load order follows list order and that a map or total conversion must come before other mods.
- Start the server and wait for downloads. The first launch may take longer while the server obtains the projects. Watch the console for download, dependency or version errors.
- Join with a matching client. Test spawning, storage, retrieval and normal crafting before inviting the full player group.
- Record the working order. Keep a text copy of the launch line, mod versions and test date so you can reproduce the setup after an update.
Active and passive load tiers
The same guides describe -passivemods= as a second tier loaded after active mods. Use it only when the mod’s documentation explicitly supports passive loading and explains the intended order. Do not move a map, total conversion or dependency into a passive tier merely to shorten the active list.
Console, cross-play and moderation considerations
Console versions, including PlayStation and Xbox, go through additional moderation review. A project that appears on a PC server may therefore have different availability or timing on console. Check the in-game mod browser and the current project listing for the platform combination your community uses.
CurseForge moderation rules summarized in the available guides require ASA mods not to appear official or endorsed by Studio Wildcard. The summaries say mods may use Survival Evolved and DLC assets, except Aquatica and ATLAS assets, and may not use assets from other Studio Wildcard games. These are creator and distribution rules; they do not guarantee that a storage mod is compatible with your particular map or save.
Performance, backups and failure recovery
No published statistic establishes how much faster, lighter or more stable any storage mod makes an ASA server. Claims about fewer simulated creatures, fewer item entities or reduced tame counts should be treated as hypotheses to test, not guaranteed benchmarks.
Measure the change you actually care about
- Record server tick behavior, memory use and restart time before installation.
- Test a representative base with the same number of creatures, chests and players.
- Measure after storage, retrieval, breeding, crafting and a normal restart.
- Keep the comparison fair: do not change map, rates or several mods at the same time.
If a creature disappears or cannot be retrieved
- Stop the server and preserve the current save and logs.
- Check the mod’s current documentation for recovery commands or migration requirements.
- Do not repeatedly restart while experimenting; each restart can write another state.
- Restore the pre-installation backup on a test instance and reproduce the operation with a disposable creature.
- If the issue follows an update, roll back to the previously working mod file only when the author supports that rollback path.
If items sort incorrectly
- Check whether the destination chest is full or uses a category the sorter does not recognize.
- Test one resource at a time and document the expected container.
- Review stacking and weight settings if a stack-size mod is also installed.
- Keep valuable materials in a manually controlled backup chest until the sorter is proven reliable.
Update policy for a live server
Storage mods touch saved creatures, inventories and structures, so updates deserve the same care as a map update. Read the current changelog, compare the supported ASA version, back up before restarting and test on a copy. If an update changes a project ID, configuration key or item class, update the launch line and player instructions together.
When removing a mod, first retrieve creatures and items from its containers if the author documents that requirement. A clean uninstall is not guaranteed simply because the server starts without the project. Keep the original files and backup until players confirm that every stored asset is accounted for.
Recommended starting setups
Small cooperative PvE server
Start with one creature-storage mod if pens and cryopods are the main complaint. Add a sorter only after players understand where resources are sent. Avoid a stacking change until you have checked weight, crafting and spoilage behavior.
Breeding-focused server
Evaluate Dino Depot first if its reported newborn capture, stat tooltips and search match your workflow. Test automated capture with a small hatchery and keep a manual recovery route. Dino Storage remains the simpler baseline when you mainly need to park mature breeders.
Large public server
Use staged deployment, explicit backups and measured tests. A creature-storage system may reduce visible base clutter, but no verified benchmark proves a particular project improves server performance. Publish the exact mod order and version to players and schedule updates during a maintenance window.
What’s actually slowing this PC down?
Pick the symptom - the matching free tool is one click away.
Builder who wants organized warehouses
Pair a building overhaul such as Structures Plus with a resource sorter or larger-stack system only when each solves a demonstrated problem. A building mod alone does not provide the creature or item-storage behavior described in this guide.
Bottom line
Dino Storage is the strongest first candidate for general creature storage because it is the option most often cited in current community guides. Dino Depot is the more ambitious choice when searchable creature records and newborn automation matter. Super Cryo Storage and Pelayori’s Cryo Storage target players who primarily want a more manageable cryopod workflow. For materials, CS Auto Storage addresses sorting, while stacking mods address slot pressure. Verify every current project ID and version on CurseForge, install on a backed-up test save, and treat performance claims as something to measure on your own server rather than a promised result.
