The best starting point is Steam Deck HQ’s tested baseline: set the game to Very Low, cap output at 60 FPS, use a 60 Hz display refresh, run Proton Experimental, choose Linear scaling, leave Half Rate Shading off, and do not apply a TDP or GPU-clock override. In testing, that profile was responsive and held close to 60 FPS through most exploration and combat, with dips in busy scenes. It is demanding on the battery, however, so it is better suited to plugged-in play or a USB-C PD power bank than long untethered sessions.
What to expect from Arknights: Endfield on Steam Deck
Arknights: Endfield is playable on a Steam Deck through community installation methods, but it is not an officially supported Steam Deck title. SteamDB currently lists the game as Unsupported for both Steam Deck and SteamOS and detects Anti-Cheat Expert (ACE). That label means Valve has not certified the complete installation and update path; it does not mean the game cannot run.
Steam Deck HQ’s 2026 hands-on review found the game usable with the launcher installed through a route such as Heroic Games Launcher, NonSteamLaunchers, or a manually added launcher. Treat that as community-supported playability. A game, launcher, anti-cheat component, SteamOS update, or Proton update can change the result without warning.

Published baseline settings
Apply these values before making individual changes. They are the only complete Steam Deck profile in the hands-on testing and provide the clearest reference point for troubleshooting.
| Setting | Value | Why it matters |
|---|---|---|
| In-game preset | Very Low | Reduces the workload enough to make a high frame-rate target practical. |
| Frame-rate limit | 60 FPS | Targets responsive controls during exploration and combat. |
| Display refresh | 60 Hz | Matches the 60 FPS cap instead of asking the display to refresh at a different rate. |
| Proton | Proton Experimental | The tested compatibility choice for the launcher and current game build. |
| Scaling filter | Linear | Uses the tested, uncomplicated scaling path. |
| Half Rate Shading | Off | Avoids the visual compromises that can appear when shading is calculated at half rate. |
| TDP limit | Disabled | Leaves the processor free to use the power it needs for the 60 FPS target. |
| GPU clock override | Disabled | Avoids locking the GPU to a value that may hurt efficiency or stability. |
With this setup, Steam Deck HQ reported mostly 60 FPS during exploration and combat, with occasional drops during busier moments. “Mostly 60” is not the same as a guaranteed lock: crowded scenes, effects-heavy encounters and future game updates can still produce dips.
How to install and select a Proton version
Install the launcher
Because the Steam store compatibility status is Unsupported, the game may not appear as a normal, ready-to-play Steam Deck installation. Community users have reported using one of three approaches:
- Heroic Games Launcher: install the launcher in Desktop Mode, sign in to the store account that owns Endfield, install the game, and add its launcher entry to Steam.
- NonSteamLaunchers: use the script to install the relevant launcher, then add the generated shortcut to Steam.
- Manual shortcut: add the installed launcher executable as a non-Steam game and point Steam’s compatibility layer at it.
The exact executable and prefix location depends on which launcher route you choose. Keep the launcher and the game in a location that remains mounted and readable in Gaming Mode. If an update changes the executable path, edit the non-Steam shortcut rather than reinstalling the entire game.

Set Proton Experimental first
- In Gaming Mode, open the game or launcher shortcut in your Steam library.
- Open Properties, then Compatibility.
- Enable Force the use of a specific Steam Play compatibility tool.
- Select Proton Experimental.
- Start the launcher and then Endfield, allowing any first-run shader or prefix setup to finish.
Restart the Deck once after creating the shortcut. This clears a surprising number of first-launch problems caused by a launcher process that was installed in Desktop Mode but never initialized cleanly in Gaming Mode.
Use Proton GE 10-30 as the fallback
A Steam Deck HQ report dated February 10, 2026 says Proton GE 10-30 added patches for Arknights: Endfield. If Experimental stops launching after a game or SteamOS update, install Proton GE 10-30 with a Proton manager in Desktop Mode, return to the shortcut’s Properties > Compatibility page, and force that GE build instead.
GE 10-30 is a compatibility fallback, not a guarantee. Results can vary with the game build, launcher build and anti-cheat behavior. Test one Proton version at a time and record which combination launches; changing several components simultaneously makes a regression difficult to diagnose.
Graphics settings: tune in the right order
Hone’s PC guidance recommends switching Graphics Quality to Custom, choosing a cap the hardware can hold during combat, disabling V-Sync, and reducing the most expensive effects first. The following order adapts that approach to Deck hardware without assuming that every desktop option is exposed through the Linux compatibility path.

1. Decide whether 60 FPS is sustainable
Keep the 60 FPS cap only if combat, hubs and base areas stay acceptably close to it. Watch the frame counter during the busiest encounter you can reproduce, not just while standing in an empty field. If the frame rate repeatedly falls below the cap, test a lower fixed cap rather than allowing an unlocked rate to fluctuate.
2. Disable V-Sync when latency is the priority
In the game’s Custom graphics menu, turn V-Sync off as Hone recommends. A cap matched to the Deck’s refresh rate generally provides the intended responsiveness. If you see distracting tearing, compare a lower fixed cap or the display’s synchronization option instead of immediately raising visual quality.
3. Reduce the expensive effects first
- Volumetric fog: lower it first when distant haze or weather scenes cause large frame-time spikes.
- Shadow quality: reduce it when combat scenes with many characters or lights are the problem.
- Screen-space reflections: lower them for reflective floors, water and glossy surfaces.
- Heavy special effects: reduce effects quality when attacks, particles or environmental events trigger the dips.
4. Reduce scene complexity if load remains high
Lower scene details, ambient details and vegetation density next. These settings reduce the number of objects and background elements the Deck must draw and can help in large outdoor areas. Make one change, repeat the same route or encounter, and keep the change only if frame-time consistency improves.

5. Protect texture clarity
Lower texture quality when the game reports high estimated GPU-memory usage or when memory pressure causes hitching. Textures usually affect clarity more than fog or shadows, so leave them higher until the cheaper visual reductions have been exhausted.

6. Adjust resolution only after trying scale options
When small text and interface elements are hard to read, try render scale or an image-enhancement option before dropping the Deck’s output resolution. Hone’s guide mentions DLSS and TAAU on PC, but those options may not be available or may behave differently through SteamOS and the game’s compatibility layer. Use only the scale or enhancement controls that actually appear in your build.
7. Avoid frame generation when native FPS is low
Frame generation can make motion appear smoother, but it does not repair a low native frame rate. If the base frame rate is inconsistent, generated frames can add latency or uneven pacing. Stabilize native FPS first; consider frame generation only when the game offers it reliably and the underlying rate is already high enough.
Independent reader supportYour contribution helps us test, update, and keep practical guides available for everyone.60 FPS versus a lower fixed cap
There is no controlled Steam Deck test in the available measurements that quantifies the battery gain from each alternative cap. The choice is therefore a trade-off rather than a proven battery formula.
| Profile | Sustained combat FPS | Frame-time consistency | Image clarity | Power, fan and heat | Battery runtime |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| 60 FPS / 60 Hz baseline | Mostly 60, with occasional busy-scene dips | Responsive, but dips remain possible | Best motion clarity of the tested profile | Highest demand; expect the Deck to run warm and the fan to work hard | Measured overall draw and runtime are described below |
| Lower fixed cap | Choose a value the Deck can hold in combat | Often steadier when 60 cannot be maintained | Usually unchanged if resolution and effects stay the same | May reduce sustained load, but the amount was not quantified | No controlled gain was reported |
Use the lower cap when uneven frame pacing bothers you more than reduced responsiveness. Do not assume that selecting a lower number automatically produces a specific number of extra minutes; background processes, brightness, thermals and the game build all affect the result.

Battery life and power management
Steam Deck HQ measured typical power draw of 22–24 W in its 2026 testing. That level of sustained consumption produced an expected battery life of about 1.5–2 hours at best, with sometimes less runtime depending on screen brightness and background processes. The estimate is a real-world review result, not a guarantee for every Deck model, game patch or launcher path.
How to stretch a session
- Use the 60 FPS profile only when you need its responsiveness; a lower fixed cap is worth testing if consistency matters more.
- Reduce brightness to a comfortable level and close downloads, browsers and other background processes before launching.
- Keep the Deck’s ventilation clear. Heat can cause the system to manage clocks and noise differently over a long session.
- Stay near a charger for long missions. A compatible USB-C Power Delivery power bank extends operating time; it does not increase the game’s frame rate.
The battery figure is the main reason the review rated Battery 2/5 even though Performance scored 4/5. The baseline is a performance-oriented profile, not an endurance profile.
Troubleshooting common failures
The launcher opens, but Endfield will not start
- Confirm that the shortcut points to the current launcher executable rather than an obsolete installer.
- Try Proton Experimental first, then Proton GE 10-30.
- Launch once in Desktop Mode to check whether the account, prefix and launcher update are complete.
- Return to Gaming Mode and start the same shortcut without changing several variables at once.
An update breaks a previously working setup
Record the game build, launcher version, SteamOS version and Proton choice before changing anything. Re-test Experimental, then GE 10-30, because the February 2026 GE patches specifically address Endfield compatibility. If neither works, the new build may have changed its anti-cheat or launcher requirements; the SteamDB Unsupported status means there is no Valve-certified fallback path to rely on.
Do these 3 things before closing this tab:
1Repair Windows errors before they cause bigger problems2Scan for outdated or missing drivers - takes under a minute3Clear out junk files and repair common Windows errorsFrame rate is high in the field but collapses in combat
Lower volumetric fog, shadows, screen-space reflections and special effects first. If combat still misses the cap, reduce scene, ambient and vegetation details, then choose a lower fixed cap that the encounter can sustain. Do not judge the profile from an empty area.
The image is blurry or text is difficult to read
Keep output resolution and textures as high as the memory budget allows. Try Linear scaling, then any available render-scale or image-enhancement option, before lowering the output resolution. A lower resolution may improve performance but can make interface text less legible.
The Deck drains rapidly while plugged in or on battery
Check that no TDP or GPU-clock override is forcing an inefficient fixed state, and leave both overrides disabled while troubleshooting. Reduce brightness, close background processes and test a lower fixed cap. A PD power bank can extend the session, but it cannot correct an inefficient frame-time profile or add FPS.
Anti-cheat prevents login or play
ACE detection is one reason SteamDB lists the title as Unsupported. There is no universal Deck-side setting that can guarantee anti-cheat acceptance. Verify that the launcher and Proton build are current, then test Experimental and GE 10-30 separately. If the game build rejects the compatibility environment, waiting for a game or Proton update may be the only practical option.

A practical setup checklist
- Install through a community launcher route and add a working shortcut to Steam.
- Force Proton Experimental for the first test.
- Set Very Low, 60 FPS, 60 Hz, Linear scaling and Half Rate Shading off.
- Leave TDP and GPU-clock overrides disabled.
- Test the busiest combat and base-area scenes before deciding that 60 FPS is stable.
- Use Custom graphics and lower fog, shadows, reflections and special effects before textures.
- Switch to a lower fixed cap if 60 FPS produces distracting dips.
- If Experimental breaks after an update, test Proton GE 10-30.
- Plan for roughly 1.5–2 hours at the measured 22–24 W draw, and carry a compatible USB-C PD power bank for longer sessions.
- Re-check the setup after major game, SteamOS or Proton updates.
