If you want Raiden’s speed, swordplay and cyborg spectacle, play Metal Gear Rising: Revengeance first. If you want the infiltration, camouflage and survival pressure associated with classic Metal Gear Solid, choose Metal Gear Solid Delta: Snake Eater. They are not interchangeable: one makes stealth optional around aggressive melee combat, while the other is built as a survival-stealth experience.

Choose your lane before choosing a game

“What should I play after Raiden?” can describe two very different requests. Raiden’s later cyborg-ninja identity is defined by momentum and a high-frequency blade, whereas the broader Metal Gear Solid formula emphasizes observation, concealment, tools and patience. A useful shortlist therefore starts with the experience you actually want rather than pretending every stealth-action game delivers the same thing.

A general “games like Metal Gear Solid” brief Decide which stealth type matters most Open-ended infiltration, tactical missions, social deception, horror evasion and action-forward stealth make different trade-offs.

This distinction reflects how the games are officially described. PlayStation’s series history says that, in his later form, Raiden “drops any pretense of stealth and instead uses his high-frequency blade to cut through every foe that stands in his way.” PlatinumGames calls Metal Gear Rising: Revengeance “an aggressive, action-packed effort.” Konami presents Metal Gear Solid Delta: Snake Eater as “the ultimate survival stealth action experience.” Those descriptions point to two valid but separate answers.

1. Metal Gear Rising: Revengeance — the direct Raiden continuation

Why it is the first stop for Raiden fans

Metal Gear Rising: Revengeance is the spin-off starring Raiden, so it is the closest continuation of the character’s cyborg-ninja portrayal. Its identity comes from rapid melee exchanges, a high-frequency blade and set-piece confrontations that reward aggression. If your favorite part of Metal Gear was watching Raiden move from covert operative to superhuman swordsman, no other recommendation in this guide matches that transition as directly.

  • 12-Month Warranty: Backed by a 12-month manufacturer warranty for peace of mind. Designed to meet strict quality control standards for reliable everyday performance.

The combat rhythm is deliberately forward-moving. You read an opponent’s attack, close distance, strike, defend or evade, and look for an opening to continue the chain. The result feels closer to a character-action game than to a conventional infiltration simulator. That is not a criticism; it is the reason to choose this game when “games like Metal Gear Rising” is the phrase you have in mind.

How much stealth is actually present?

Stealth exists as a tactical option rather than the governing structure. You can use concealment or positioning to bypass some enemies and begin an encounter on better terms, but the game expects many situations to become fights. Its systems are tuned for the moment stealth breaks: movement, blade work and timing remain satisfying when you are surrounded or facing a heavily armored target.

Choose it if you want action-forward stealth—a game that lets you appreciate an advantage gained through sneaking but does not punish you for drawing attention. Do not choose it expecting every room to support a patient, nonlethal route or a long guard-pattern puzzle. The stealth layer serves the action rather than replacing it.

What the mission experience feels like

  • Momentum over routine: encounters are arranged to keep you moving between traversal, combat and larger spectacles.
  • Combat tolerance: detection is not an automatic failure state; your skills are designed to carry you through a loud engagement.
  • Cinematic escalation: boss encounters and dramatic scenarios are central to the appeal, so the tone is heightened rather than quiet and procedural.
  • Optional avoidance: stealth can reduce friction in selected situations, but the game does not ask you to remain undetected for an entire campaign.

Who should skip it?

Skip this pick if your ideal post-Metal-Gear game is primarily about disguises, guard schedules, inventory management or solving every objective without violence. You may still enjoy its polish and spectacle, but its core reward is mastery of aggressive melee combat. It is also a poor substitute for the slower espionage tension of the series’ survival-focused entries.

Best way to approach it after Metal Gear Solid

  1. Reset your stealth expectations. Treat concealment as an opening tool, not a rule that every mission must obey.
  2. Learn the combat timing early. The game’s difficulty and spectacle make more sense once defense, evasion and blade attacks become deliberate choices rather than button mashing.
  3. Use stealth to shape encounters. Bypass an isolated guard or gain a favorable position when it is useful, then accept the fight when the level is clearly built around one.
  4. Judge it as a Raiden action game. Comparing it only with slower stealth entries obscures what it is trying to do.

2. Metal Gear Solid Delta: Snake Eater — the stealth-first route back

Why it belongs on this list

Metal Gear Solid Delta: Snake Eater is a remake of Metal Gear Solid 3. Konami describes it as “the ultimate survival stealth action experience,” with new graphics and 3D audio. That positioning makes it the strongest choice when “best stealth games after MGS” means returning to the series’ infiltration structure rather than extending Raiden’s swordplay.

The game’s appeal is built around staying hidden in hostile terrain, reading the environment and managing the pressure of survival. Camouflage and sound matter because they influence whether an enemy notices you and how safely you can move through an area. The pacing is consequently more deliberate: observation and preparation can be as important as the moment you pull a trigger or make a takedown.

What makes it different from Revengeance?

Dimension Metal Gear Rising: Revengeance Metal Gear Solid Delta: Snake Eater

Stealth’s role Optional advantage around action encounters Central method for controlling risk and progress
Combat relationship Combat is the main attraction and remains effective after detection Combat is one tool within a broader concealment-and-survival plan
Pacing Fast, aggressive and set-piece driven Patient, watchful and shaped by environmental pressure
Best match for Readers asking for “games like Metal Gear Rising” Readers asking for “games like Metal Gear Solid”

Who will get the most from it?

  • Players who enjoy scouting before committing to a route.
  • Anyone who wants camouflage and survival concerns to affect ordinary movement, not just scripted scenes.
  • Fans of espionage pacing in which avoiding a fight can be as meaningful as winning one.
  • Readers who want a modern presentation of a classic Metal Gear stealth structure, including updated graphics and 3D audio.

What to expect before starting

This is not a Raiden power fantasy. The tension comes from vulnerability, limited certainty and the need to make a plan with incomplete information. If you approach it expecting constant high-speed melee, its careful tempo may feel slow. If you want a focused return to survival stealth, that tempo is the point.

Use the environment as part of your equipment. Before crossing an exposed space, identify cover, likely patrol routes and a fallback position. Treat detection as a problem to solve rather than an invitation to sprint into combat. The game’s structure rewards that mindset more consistently than an all-out assault.

How to compare stealth games without mixing unlike experiences

“Stealth” covers several design traditions. A game can offer excellent infiltration while giving you little freedom, or it can provide a large sandbox whose stealth systems are shallow. Use the dimensions below to decide whether a recommendation fits your own definition of the genre.

Open-ended infiltration

Look for missions that let you scout, manipulate guards, combine gadgets and improvise routes. The key question is not whether a game contains a crouch button; it is whether several approaches produce meaningfully different outcomes. This is the right category for readers searching for “stealth games with gadgets and open-ended approaches.” Compare how much freedom a level gives you with how clearly it communicates consequences when a plan fails.

Tactical or mission-based stealth

These games emphasize preparation, loadouts and controlled engagements. You may choose equipment before deployment, identify priorities and execute a plan under defined mission constraints. They suit players who prefer a clear objective and a manageable space over a huge sandbox. The trade-off is that authored missions can deliver stronger pacing while offering fewer emergent solutions.

Social or systemic stealth

Here, concealment depends on disguise, crowds, information and social rules rather than vegetation or darkness alone. Success may mean blending in, learning who belongs in a location or manipulating access. This can feel closer to espionage than to a conventional combat game, but it usually offers less of the direct melee satisfaction that defines Raiden’s action-oriented style.

Horror stealth

Horror stealth reverses the usual power balance. You evade enemies, conserve resources and exploit narrow windows of safety because direct combat is unreliable or impossible. It is a strong choice if you value tension and vulnerability, but it will not recreate Metal Gear’s gadget-rich agency or Revengeance’s swordplay. The relevant comparison is evasion pressure, not military spectacle.

Action-forward stealth

This category is where Metal Gear Rising: Revengeance belongs. Stealth can provide an opening, information or a way around selected threats, while the combat system remains robust when concealment fails. It is the best fit for players who want both infiltration flavor and a satisfying answer when a plan goes loud.

Three sensible play paths after Metal Gear

Path A: You are here for Raiden

  1. Start with Metal Gear Rising: Revengeance.
  2. Approach stealth as an optional tactical layer and spend your learning time on movement, defense and blade timing.
  3. After finishing, decide whether you want more stealth depth or simply more action-forward games; do not use a stealth-only standard to judge the experience.

Path B: You want the classic infiltration loop

  1. Start with Metal Gear Solid Delta: Snake Eater.
  2. Play slowly enough to read terrain, camouflage and patrol behavior before acting.
  3. Choose routes that reduce exposure instead of treating every detection as a cue to attack.

Path C: You are unsure what “like Metal Gear” means

  1. Decide whether your priority is melee spectacle, survival tension, gadgets, social deception or horror evasion.
  2. Use the comparison dimensions—stealth depth, freedom of approach, tolerance for combat, mission structure and story tone—to eliminate mismatches.
  3. Pick the game whose central loop matches your priority, even if its secondary systems differ from the Metal Gear formula.

Story tone and continuity considerations

Metal Gear Rising: Revengeance is a spin-off centered on Raiden, so its appeal is tied to his later identity and to a heightened, aggressive presentation. You can choose it for combat even if you are less interested in reconstructing every series detail; the mechanical promise is clear from the outset.

Metal Gear Solid Delta: Snake Eater returns to an earlier survival-stealth foundation through a remake of Metal Gear Solid 3. Its attraction is not a continuation of Raiden’s cyborg-ninja arc but a return to the espionage structure that defines the broader series. Selecting between the two is therefore as much a tone decision as a gameplay decision: kinetic spectacle versus patient infiltration.

Edition, platform and availability checks

Platform support, edition names, physical inventory and regional availability can change. Verify the current storefront or retailer listing for your region before buying, and select the platform-specific edition that matches your hardware. A physical copy of Metal Gear Rising: Revengeance is the most direct product choice for readers seeking Raiden’s game; Metal Gear Solid Delta: Snake Eater is the corresponding physical option for the stealth-first route.

Do not assume that a similarly named edition includes the same extras, language options or technical features across platforms. Check the listing’s supported platform, included content and any compatibility notes at the time of purchase.

Common expectation mismatches and fixes

“I wanted stealth, but Revengeance keeps turning into fights.”

That is the intended balance. Use concealment to bypass selected enemies or improve your opening position, then engage with the combat system when the mission pushes you into a confrontation. If avoiding almost every enemy is your requirement, switch to Metal Gear Solid Delta: Snake Eater.

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.

“Delta feels too slow after playing Raiden.”

Its survival-stealth structure depends on observation and risk management. Spend time studying the environment, use camouflage deliberately and plan a fallback before crossing exposed ground. Measuring it by attack speed misses the systems it is designed to emphasize.

“I want gadgets and freedom, not just a crouch button.”

Evaluate a game by the number of viable approaches it supports: scouting, guard manipulation, equipment choices, environmental routes and recovery options after detection. Open-ended infiltration is defined by those interactions, not by the presence of a stealth meter alone.

“I prefer a story-driven, cinematic experience.”

Both games are rooted in Metal Gear’s cinematic tradition, but they express it differently. Revengeance foregrounds spectacle and aggressive escalation; Delta foregrounds espionage pacing and survival tension. Choose the tone that matches the scenes you want to inhabit.

Bottom line

Metal Gear Rising: Revengeance is the direct answer for Raiden fans: fast, aggressive and built around high-frequency-blade combat, with stealth used as an optional advantage. Metal Gear Solid Delta: Snake Eater is the better answer for players seeking the core Metal Gear stealth experience: camouflage, survival pressure, environmental reading and deliberate infiltration. Start with the lane that matches your priority, then judge every other stealth game by the specific type of stealth it delivers rather than by the label alone.
