There is no single best stablecoin payment card. For a US resident who mainly holds USDC, Coinbase Card is the clearest fit in the documented options: it is available in every US state except Hawaii, runs on Visa, and automatically converts crypto for purchases and ATM withdrawals. Crypto.com is better suited to people who specifically want a prepaid card and CRO rewards. In Europe, Gnosis Pay and MetaMask Card are the strongest self-custody choices in the available comparison, while Wirex is the broadest multi-currency alternative where it operates.

Your actual winner depends on five facts that can disqualify a card before rewards matter: your country, the exact stablecoin and network you hold, the conversion and foreign-exchange costs, whether you want a custodial or self-custodial wallet, and the conditions attached to rewards. Use the framework below to check those points before applying.

Quick comparison

Card Best fit How funds are held and spent Rewards described by the issuer or comparison Documented availability
Coinbase Card USDC-led spending in the United States; also a UK option Crypto is automatically converted to local currency at purchase or ATM withdrawal; Visa debit acceptance Optional, variable rewards for US users only; UK page says no trading fees for spending crypto, including USDC, and no fee for spending pounds All US states except Hawaii; UK product page describes worldwide Visa acceptance
Crypto.com Visa Prepaid Card Users who value CRO rewards and an ecosystem tier Prepaid balance; crypto cannot be loaded directly and is converted to the relevant market currency before loading Eligible spending rewards paid in CRO; benefits and rates depend on tier and jurisdiction Jurisdiction-limited; terms vary by card tier
Gnosis Pay Card European users who want on-chain self-custody Self-custodial Visa spending from a Safe smart account on Gnosis Chain 1–5% in GNO in the cited comparison; GNO value is volatile Europe, the UK, Iceland and Norway in the cited comparison; not listed as a US option
MetaMask Card Existing MetaMask users prioritizing wallet control Spends balances in the user’s wallet; funds remain under the user’s control until purchase; Mastercard network 1% cashback in mUSD; no annual fee in the cited comparison Country, chain and asset support must be checked before applying
Wirex Card Travelers and users managing many fiat and digital currencies Visa or Mastercard debit/prepaid model, depending on the card 0.5–16% WXT cashback on select plans; rates and requirements vary Europe, the UK and selected Asia-Pacific markets in the cited comparison

The figures in the table are not interchangeable promises. Rewards can be limited by plan, tier, asset, merchant category or jurisdiction, and issuers can change their programs. Treat each number as a starting point for checking the live card terms.

What a stablecoin payment card actually does

A stablecoin card gives you a card-network payment method while using a crypto balance as the funding source. At checkout, the issuer either sells or converts the selected asset into the merchant’s settlement currency, or spends from a linked account that performs that conversion in real time. The merchant generally receives ordinary fiat through Visa or Mastercard; it does not need to accept USDC, GNO, CRO or another token directly.

That conversion is why a card can advertise “stablecoin spending” without guaranteeing a one-to-one cost. You must examine the quoted rate, any spread, foreign-exchange markup, card fee, ATM fee and top-up charge. A stablecoin’s target value does not remove those service costs, and it does not make rewards paid in a volatile token stable.

How to choose one for everyday use

1. Start with country and legal eligibility

Issuers restrict cards by residence, identity-verification rules, local licensing and product availability. Coinbase states that its Card is available in all US states except Hawaii. The Gnosis Pay comparison lists Europe, the UK, Iceland and Norway, not the United States. Wirex is listed for Europe, the UK and selected Asia-Pacific markets. Crypto.com’s availability and benefits depend on jurisdiction and tier, and MetaMask requires a current check of supported countries.

Do this check before transferring funds or planning around a reward rate. A virtual-card feature or headline cashback percentage is irrelevant if the issuer will not onboard you or cannot deliver a physical card in your country.

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.

2. Confirm the exact stablecoin and blockchain

“USDC support” is incomplete information unless the network is named. USDC on one chain may not be accepted on another, and a self-custodial card may require a particular chain or wallet account. Coinbase’s documented use case covers spending crypto, including USDC, through its conversion flow; Gnosis Pay’s cited setup spends from a Safe smart account on Gnosis Chain. MetaMask users must confirm both the eligible assets and supported chains for their card version.

Before funding, verify the deposit address, network, minimum amount, confirmation requirements and whether the card spends the asset directly or requires a swap. Sending a token over an unsupported network can create a recovery problem that card support may not be able to fix.

3. Calculate the complete cost, not just a “no fee” claim

Make a monthly estimate using your own expected purchases, cash withdrawals and foreign transactions. Include:

  • the card’s conversion spread or quoted exchange-rate markup;
  • foreign-exchange charges when the purchase currency differs from your account currency;
  • ATM operator and issuer fees, including any free monthly allowance;
  • top-up or funding fees when money comes from another card or bank account;
  • subscription or plan charges required for a particular reward tier;
  • network gas or wallet transaction costs when the design requires an on-chain operation.

Compare the total cost with the value of the reward asset after accounting for its price volatility. A 1% token reward is not equivalent to a guaranteed 1% cash rebate.

4. Decide between custodial convenience and self-custody

With a custodial card, the provider controls the account and conversion process. That usually means a simpler recovery path and fewer wallet transactions, but you depend on the provider’s access controls, limits and operating status. A self-custodial card keeps the assets in your wallet or smart account until a purchase triggers the spending flow. You retain key or recovery responsibility and must understand approvals, signing prompts and what happens if the wallet is inaccessible.

Self-custody is not a synonym for lower fees or higher rewards. It changes who can move the funds and who must recover them when a device, key or smart-account process fails.

5. Separate reward denomination from reward rate

Coinbase’s US rewards are optional and variable. Crypto.com pays eligible rewards in CRO. Gnosis Pay’s cited comparison shows 1–5% in GNO, and Wirex shows 0.5–16% WXT cashback on selected plans. MetaMask Card’s comparison lists 1% cashback in mUSD. CRO, GNO and WXT can change value relative to your spending currency; mUSD terms and eligibility still need confirmation for your location and card version.

Ask whether rewards are capped, excluded for certain merchant categories, delayed, subject to a minimum spend, tied to staking or a paid plan, or forfeited when an account is closed. Then decide whether you would have bought that token with cash. If not, value it conservatively rather than treating the advertised percentage as cash.

Card-by-card guidance

Coinbase Card: the clearest USDC-led US shortlist

Coinbase says its Card is available in all US states except Hawaii and is issued by Pathward. It can be used anywhere Visa debit cards are accepted. The documented flow automatically converts cryptocurrency to US dollars for purchases and ATM withdrawals. For US users, rewards are optional and rates are variable, so the current offer in the app—not an old promotional percentage—should determine your estimate.

For UK users, Coinbase’s product page states that there are no fees for spending pounds and that it does not charge trading fees for spending crypto, including USDC. It also describes worldwide Visa acceptance and automatic conversion to pounds for purchases and ATM withdrawals. Those statements do not remove possible spread, ATM-operator charges, account limits or local tax obligations; review the rate disclosure and the terms shown for your account.

Coinbase is a practical choice when you want a familiar custodial workflow and your main balance is USDC. It is less suitable if your priority is keeping coins in a wallet you control, or if you need a country, chain or reward program that the current product does not support.

Crypto.com Visa Prepaid Card: a CRO-reward ecosystem

Crypto.com explicitly describes its Card as a prepaid card. You top it up rather than linking it directly to a bank account. Funding can come from the Crypto Wallet, Cash Account or another credit or debit card. Eligible spending rewards are credited in CRO to the Crypto Wallet.

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.

The important operational limitation is that cardholders cannot load cryptocurrency directly onto the prepaid Visa card. Crypto is converted to the relevant market currency before the balance is loaded. That extra step means you should check the conversion rate, funding fee and timing rather than assuming that holding a stablecoin produces a stablecoin-denominated purchase.

ATM fees, interbank exchange rates, funding fees and other charges can depend on jurisdiction and card tier. The card page displays examples of free ATM-withdrawal allowances of $800 USD per month and $400 USD per month for the shown tiers; these are examples for those displayed tiers, not a universal allowance. Benefits can change at Crypto.com’s discretion, and the product is not available in every jurisdiction.

Choose this card when CRO rewards and tier benefits are more important to you than direct stablecoin settlement and you accept CRO price risk. Before applying, model the tier requirement, top-up route, ATM use and the value of CRO if you immediately convert rewards back to fiat.

Gnosis Pay Card: European self-custody through a smart account

The cited MetaMask comparison lists Gnosis Pay as a self-custodial Visa card that spends from a Safe smart account on Gnosis Chain. It lists availability in Europe, the UK, Iceland and Norway and rewards of 1–5% in GNO. That makes it a notable option for a European user who wants on-chain control rather than a provider-held balance.

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.

Self-custody changes the setup. You must fund the correct Safe account on Gnosis Chain, protect recovery material and recognize legitimate signing or approval requests. Losing access to the wallet can interrupt spending even when the underlying assets still exist. GNO rewards are volatile, so calculate them as a token incentive, not as a guaranteed discount.

The cited comparison does not list Gnosis Pay as a US option. Eligibility, supported assets, limits and current reward rules should be checked in the application flow for your residence.

Bitcoin Crypto Wallet, 6pk — Physical Reloadable Crypto Card | Cold Storage for Bitcoin with Hardware-Grade Security (No Seed Phrase) | No App, Browser Based, PIN Locked | Offline Hardware Wallet
  • Simple, Secure Bitcoin Storage for Anyone: Create a safe, offline place to hold Bitcoin without needing an app, account, seed phrase, or technical setup. Perfect for beginners, casual users, and anyone who wants a stress-free cold storage option.

  • High-Quality Card Built for Everyday Use: Printed on premium materials and sealed for security and durability. Slim, credit-card style design fits easily into a wallet, gifting envelope, or safe deposit box for long-term use and convenience.

MetaMask Card: wallet-linked spending

MetaMask describes its Card as combining crypto with the ease of cash. The comparison says users spend balances already in their wallet, funds remain under their control until purchase, payments run over Mastercard, cashback is 1% in mUSD and there is no annual fee.

This design is most coherent for someone who already uses MetaMask and understands wallet security. You avoid moving a balance to a separate custodial card account, but you take responsibility for seed-phrase protection, device security, chain selection and transaction approvals. Confirm which countries, chains and assets are eligible for the card you are offered; a wallet balance that is visible in MetaMask is not automatically spendable through the card.

Wirex Card: broad multi-currency coverage

The cited comparison lists Wirex as a Visa or Mastercard debit/prepaid card supporting more than 50 fiat and digital currencies. It lists 0.5–16% WXT cashback on select plans, no annual fee on Standard, variable higher-plan and foreign-exchange fees, and availability in Europe, the UK and selected Asia-Pacific markets.

This breadth can help travelers who regularly switch between fiat currencies and digital assets. It also creates more terms to verify: which plan unlocks a quoted WXT rate, whether the reward applies to your merchant category, how the exchange rate is set, and what fees apply outside the base region. Treat the upper end of the cashback range as a plan-specific ceiling from the comparison, not as a default rate.

Choosing by reader profile

If you live in the United States and hold mostly USDC

Start with Coinbase Card because the documented US availability, Visa acceptance and automatic conversion directly match that use case. Check that you are not in Hawaii, then review the app’s current reward offer, spend limits, conversion disclosure and ATM terms. Crypto.com may be worth a separate calculation if CRO rewards and prepaid tiers matter more than direct USDC convenience, but its crypto-before-loading process should be included in the comparison.

If you live in Europe and insist on self-custody

Compare Gnosis Pay and MetaMask Card first. Gnosis Pay’s cited design uses a Safe smart account on Gnosis Chain and lists GNO rewards; MetaMask Card spends from a wallet under your control and lists 1% mUSD cashback with no annual fee. Your choice should follow the wallet and chain you can operate safely, not the largest headline percentage.

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.

If you travel across currencies

Wirex’s listed support for more than 50 fiat and digital currencies makes it the natural multi-currency candidate among these cards. Check the applicable FX schedule, plan requirements and country coverage for every destination. A card that is inexpensive at home can become costly when the purchase currency, account currency and reward currency all differ.

If rewards are your main reason for switching

Write down the reward asset, vesting or payout timing, caps, qualifying transactions and any tier or subscription requirement. Then price the reward in the currency you actually spend. CRO, GNO and WXT can lose value; a stablecoin balance does not hedge that token risk.

Setup checklist before the first purchase

  1. Confirm identity and residence eligibility. Use the issuer’s current application page and check whether physical, virtual or both card types are offered to your country.
  2. Record the supported asset and network. Copy the exact deposit network and test with a small amount if the provider permits it.
  3. Read the conversion disclosure. Note whether conversion occurs at authorization, settlement or top-up, and whether the quoted rate includes a spread.
  4. Set spending and withdrawal limits. Check daily and monthly purchase, ATM, top-up and merchant-category limits.
  5. Review reward conditions. Save the current rate, reward currency, cap, exclusions and tier requirement for your records.
  6. Secure the account or wallet. Enable multifactor authentication, protect recovery material offline and keep a backup payment method.
  7. Make a small test purchase. Compare the authorization amount, final posted amount, conversion rate and reward credit with the issuer’s explanation.
  8. Plan tax records. Keep transaction dates, asset cost basis, amount spent, conversion value and fees so you can apply your local reporting rules.

Fees, limits and failure modes to watch

Conversion looks free but the rate is unfavorable

A “no transaction fee” statement can coexist with a spread in the conversion rate. Compare the card’s quoted fiat amount with a reputable market reference at the same time, and include any foreign-exchange markup. Do not infer that a UK fee statement applies to US accounts or another country.

A top-up is declined or arrives short

Prepaid products may reject a funding card, impose verification holds or deduct a funding fee. Check whether the card accepts wallet, bank or third-party-card funding, and whether the source card is issued in a supported region. Crypto.com’s documented model requires conversion before loading; sending crypto directly to the prepaid card is not the supported operation.

An ATM withdrawal costs more than expected

Separate the issuer’s allowance from the ATM owner’s surcharge and the exchange rate. Crypto.com’s displayed $800 and $400 monthly free-withdrawal examples apply to shown tiers, not every user. Coinbase converts crypto for ATM withdrawals, but the ATM operator and account terms can still affect the final cost.

The card works online but not at a particular merchant

Merchant acceptance is controlled by the network, card type, country controls and merchant category. A Visa or Mastercard logo is broad coverage, not a promise that every offline terminal, rental-car deposit, hotel preauthorization or cash-like transaction will pass. Keep a second payment method and do not preload more than you can afford to leave unavailable during a dispute.

A self-custody wallet is inaccessible

Card support cannot replace a lost seed phrase or an incorrectly configured smart account. Store recovery material securely, rehearse the recovery process before funding the card and verify every chain and contract interaction. Self-custody removes a central recovery desk, so preparation is part of the product.

Tax and record-keeping considerations

Spending a crypto asset can be treated as a disposal rather than a simple debit-card purchase. Coinbase explicitly warns UK users that spending crypto can be a taxable transaction requiring gains-and-losses reporting. That warning should not be generalized to every country: tax treatment depends on your residence, the asset, the amount, exemptions and local rules.

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.

For each purchase, retain the date and time, asset and network, units spent, fiat value, fees, card statement and acquisition cost. Rewards may have separate income or disposal treatment. Ask a qualified local adviser when the amounts are material or your transactions are frequent.

Bottom line

Choose Coinbase Card for the most straightforward documented USDC spending path in the United States, subject to the Hawaii exclusion and current account terms. Choose Crypto.com when a prepaid workflow and CRO ecosystem rewards justify tier and conversion complexity. Choose Gnosis Pay or MetaMask Card when European self-custody is the deciding requirement, and consider Wirex when multi-currency coverage outweighs plan and FX complexity. In every case, verify country, network, fees, limits, reward conditions and tax treatment immediately before funding the card.
