Play SpongeBob SquarePants: The Cosmic Shake first. Its character-focused movement, collectible worlds, costumes, original voice performances and playful platforming make it the closest modern follow-up to Titans of the Tide. Then play SpongeBob SquarePants: Battle for Bikini Bottom – Rehydrated if you want the classic Bikini Bottom adventure that established the modern platforming formula.
The short answer: start with The Cosmic Shake
The Cosmic Shake is the most natural next game because it preserves the qualities that make Titans of the Tide appealing: a voiced SpongeBob adventure, movement abilities built around familiar characters, collectible-focused exploration and a cartoon presentation rather than a realistic action-game style.
The two games still have different hooks. Titans of the Tide is a ghost story built around switching between SpongeBob and Patrick, while The Cosmic Shake sends SpongeBob through portal-linked Wishworlds created by Mermaid’s Tears. That difference makes the games complementary instead of interchangeable. You get the closest mechanical follow-up first, then a more traditional Bikini Bottom platformer with Battle for Bikini Bottom – Rehydrated.

How the three games differ
| Game | Core movement or play feature | World structure | Customization and presentation |
|---|---|---|---|
| Titans of the Tide | Seamless switching between SpongeBob and Patrick; Patrick uses grappling and burrowing abilities | Recognizable locations including Neptune’s Palace and Mount Bikini | Ghostly adventure with the Flying Dutchman, King Neptune and Hibernation Sandy |
| The Cosmic Shake | Fishhook Swing and Karate Kick, with character-specific platforming | Seven distinct Wishworlds opened through Mermaid’s Tears portals | More than 30 costumes, original-actor voice performances and a soundtrack from the composers of Battle for Bikini Bottom |
| Battle for Bikini Bottom – Rehydrated | Classic-style character platforming in a more grounded Bikini Bottom setting | Bikini Bottom adventure structure rather than portal-based Wishworlds | A modern presentation of the earlier game’s formula |
These are feature-based recommendations, not a numerical ranking. No authoritative cross-game review score establishes one of these games as objectively superior, so the right choice depends on whether you value variety, story atmosphere or the older Bikini Bottom structure.

Why The Cosmic Shake is the closest follow-up
Its movement has the same character-first design
Titans of the Tide makes movement part of the story by letting you switch between SpongeBob and Patrick. SpongeBob and Patrick are not simply different character models; their abilities change how you approach a platforming problem. Patrick’s grappling and burrowing are especially important because they create routes and interactions that SpongeBob cannot handle in the same way.
The Cosmic Shake follows the same broad design principle. Its official feature list highlights Fishhook Swing and Karate Kick as movement and action tools. Instead of giving every ability to a generic player avatar, the game ties the action to SpongeBob’s cartoon identity. If you enjoyed learning what each character can do in Titans, the specific moves in Cosmic Shake provide a familiar kind of feedback: you see an obstacle, recognize the relevant ability and then experiment with the environment.
Seven Wishworlds provide more variety
The largest structural difference is the setting. Titans of the Tide visits recognizable Bikini Bottom locations, including Neptune’s Palace and Mount Bikini. That gives the adventure a connected, location-driven feeling. Its ghostly premise also lets the game use familiar characters and places in a supernatural context.

The Cosmic Shake instead uses Mermaid’s Tears to open portals into seven distinct Wishworlds. Each world is an imaginative detour from ordinary Bikini Bottom. This structure is a strong match if you want the next game to keep changing its visual theme, objectives and collectible routes rather than spending the entire adventure in one connected setting.
Seven worlds do not automatically mean seven equally large campaigns; the published figure identifies the number of distinct Wishworlds, not their individual completion times. Treat it as a variety measure, not a promise of a specific total playtime.

Costumes make exploration feel more collectible-driven
THQ Nordic advertises more than 30 costumes for The Cosmic Shake. The costumes are a useful reason to choose it after Titans if you enjoy searching levels for optional rewards or changing SpongeBob’s appearance to match the world you are exploring.
The published costume figure is “more than 30,” not an exact final count. It also does not establish that every costume changes abilities or statistics. Read the costumes primarily as a customization and collection feature unless the edition’s current description says otherwise.

Both games are presented as voiced, cartoon-faithful SpongeBob adventures. The Cosmic Shake specifically advertises original-actor voice performances, which helps it feel like an episode-length extension of the show rather than a silent platforming spin-off.
Its soundtrack comes from the composers of Battle for Bikini Bottom. That connection matters if you are moving through the modern games in release order: Cosmic Shake gives you the newer portal-based structure while retaining an audio link to the earlier platformer.
When Battle for Bikini Bottom – Rehydrated is the better choice
Choose it for the classic Bikini Bottom template
Battle for Bikini Bottom – Rehydrated is the better second stop when your favorite part of Titans is not the ghost story but the act of moving through recognizable Bikini Bottom spaces. Its design is described as the earlier, more grounded Bikini Bottom platforming template. That makes it a useful contrast with both Titans and the highly varied Wishworlds of Cosmic Shake.

Expect the appeal to come from revisiting a familiar setting and working through a classic-style platforming adventure, not from the two-character switching structure that defines Titans. If you want Patrick’s grappling and burrowing to remain central, play Cosmic Shake first; if you want the series’ foundational Bikini Bottom approach, move to Rehydrated.
It anchors the modern SpongeBob platforming pair
PlayStation places Rehydrated and The Cosmic Shake together in a Bikini Bottom Bundle, and Steam’s Titans listing treats those two games as the relevant modern companions. That positioning reflects how the games work as a sequence of related platformers: Rehydrated represents the classic-style foundation, while Cosmic Shake expands the format with portals, Wishworlds and a larger costume collection.
The bundle association does not prove that the games share a continuous story or identical controls. It is better understood as a practical franchise grouping for players who want more than one modern SpongeBob platformer.
Pick your next game by the feature you want most
If you want the nearest mechanical match
Choose The Cosmic Shake. Fishhook Swing and Karate Kick continue the character-specific movement idea, and its collectible-focused worlds give you a similar reason to revisit areas and search beyond the critical path.
If you want the most imaginative settings
Choose The Cosmic Shake. Its seven Wishworlds are explicitly built as distinct destinations reached through Mermaid’s Tears portals, so the game is designed around changing environments rather than one familiar map.

If you want classic Bikini Bottom
Choose Battle for Bikini Bottom – Rehydrated. It is the more grounded option and the clearest way to experience the earlier platforming template that the modern games build upon.
If you want a ghost story
Stay with Titans of the Tide first, then move to Cosmic Shake. Titans is the only one of these descriptions explicitly framed as a ghostly adventure, with the Flying Dutchman, King Neptune and Hibernation Sandy as named threats or encounters.
If costumes and optional collecting matter most
Choose The Cosmic Shake because its official feature list advertises more than 30 costumes. The available information does not establish an equivalent costume total for Titans or Rehydrated.
A practical play order
- Finish or sample Titans of the Tide. Pay attention to whether you enjoy switching characters, Patrick’s grappling and burrowing, and the recognizable Bikini Bottom locations.
- Play The Cosmic Shake next. Start with its movement abilities, then explore the seven Wishworlds and collect costumes as you unlock them. This gives you the closest overall continuation in tone and platforming priorities.
- Move to Battle for Bikini Bottom – Rehydrated. Treat it as the classic-style follow-up: a return to grounded Bikini Bottom exploration after the portal-driven variety of Cosmic Shake.
This order is about design progression, not story continuity. The available publisher descriptions do not establish a required narrative order between the three games, so you can reverse the last two if you specifically prefer the classic setting before the Wishworld format.
What to check before buying
Confirm your console and edition
Platform listings differ by storefront and edition, so check the exact product page for your hardware before purchasing. Titans of the Tide is listed for PC, PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S and Nintendo Switch 2 in the publisher’s November 18, 2025 launch announcement. Nintendo separately lists October 13, 2026 as the Nintendo Switch release date. Those dates describe different platform listings, not a single universal launch date.

- Powerful Pass-Through Charging: Supports up to 85W pass-through charging so you can power up your laptop while you use the hub. Note: Pass-through charging requires a charger (not included). Note: To achieve full power for iPad, we recommend using a 45W wall charger.
- Transfer Files in Seconds: Move files to and from your laptop at speeds of up to 5 Gbps via the USB-C and USB-A data ports. Note: The USB C 5Gbps Data port does not support video output.
- HD Display: Connect to the HDMI port to stream or mirror content to an external monitor in resolutions of up to 4K@30Hz. Note: The USB-C ports do not support video output.
- What You Get: Anker 332 USB-C Hub (5-in-1), welcome guide, our worry-free 18-month warranty, and friendly customer service.
Use the console name shown on the store page, and verify whether the listing is for the original Nintendo Switch, Nintendo Switch 2, or another platform. A game’s title can appear in multiple storefront results while the included version, performance target or release date differs.
Check the edition name for The Cosmic Shake
THQ Nordic lists Standard and BFF Editions for The Cosmic Shake. The BFF Edition is the natural choice if you want the edition specifically promoted by the publisher, but confirm the platform, region, stock status and current price before ordering. Edition names can describe different physical or digital contents depending on the storefront.
Do not assume a bundle contains every version
The Bikini Bottom Bundle groups Battle for Bikini Bottom – Rehydrated with The Cosmic Shake on PlayStation’s franchise page. A bundle listing still needs a platform and region check. Confirm which versions are included and whether the bundle is digital or physical before treating it as a replacement for an individual game.
How the tone changes from game to game
Titans of the Tide: supernatural Bikini Bottom
Nintendo describes Titans as a “brand-new ghostly adventure.” The premise is reflected in its named locations and opponents: Neptune’s Palace, Mount Bikini, the Flying Dutchman, King Neptune and Hibernation Sandy. The result is a familiar SpongeBob setting filtered through a spooky adventure framework.
The Cosmic Shake: portal-driven cartoon detours
THQ Nordic’s official feature copy invites players to “Everybody do the Cosmic Shake!” Its tone is playful and episodic. Mermaid’s Tears open portals, and the seven Wishworlds let the game move between different visual ideas without abandoning SpongeBob’s humor or voice performances.
Rehydrated: grounded series nostalgia
Rehydrated is the choice for a more straightforward return to Bikini Bottom. Its appeal is the setting and the classic-style platforming template, making it the least dependent on a supernatural or portal premise.
Common pitfalls when choosing
- Expecting identical movement. Titans centers on switching between SpongeBob and Patrick, while Cosmic Shake highlights Fishhook Swing and Karate Kick. The games share a character-led approach but not the same move list.
- Treating seven Wishworlds as a playtime guarantee. The number describes distinct worlds, not the length of each one or a guaranteed completion time.
- Assuming every costume changes gameplay. The published description confirms more than 30 costumes, but it does not say that all of them alter abilities or statistics.
- Using the wrong storefront version. The documented release dates and platforms differ by listing, so match the edition to your console before buying.
- Looking for a review-score verdict. No authoritative cross-game score is established here. Use the feature match—movement, setting, customization and tone—to make the decision.
Final recommendation by player type
| Your priority | Start with | Reason |
|---|---|---|
| Closest overall follow-up to Titans | The Cosmic Shake | Character-specific movement, collectibles, voiced presentation and varied worlds |
| Classic Bikini Bottom platforming | Battle for Bikini Bottom – Rehydrated | Grounded setting and earlier-style adventure structure |
| More costumes and visual variety | The Cosmic Shake | More than 30 advertised costumes and seven Wishworlds |
| Ghostly story and named supernatural characters | Titans of the Tide | Its premise explicitly centers on a ghostly adventure |
For most players coming directly from Titans of the Tide, the order is simple: The Cosmic Shake, then Battle for Bikini Bottom – Rehydrated. The first preserves the modern, character-driven platforming feel while changing the setting structure; the second supplies the grounded Bikini Bottom experience that gives the pair its classic foundation.
