For most players, the best next game is Marvel’s Spider-Man: Miles Morales, followed by Marvel’s Spider-Man 2. If you have not played the original adventure, begin with Marvel’s Spider-Man Remastered on PS5. If you have already finished the original, you can move directly to Miles Morales. PlayStation says Spider-Man 2 remains accessible to newcomers, but playing the earlier entries gives the character and story developments their intended context.
The short answer: follow the series’ story order
The PS5 sequence is straightforward:
- Marvel’s Spider-Man Remastered — play this first if you have not experienced the original game.
- Marvel’s Spider-Man: Miles Morales — the direct follow-up, set about twelve months after the first story.
- Marvel’s Spider-Man 2 — the next main entry, set roughly nine months after Miles Morales.
This order follows the narrative progression presented by PlayStation. It also avoids the most common continuity problem: starting with Spider-Man 2 before seeing how the two playable heroes and their relationships developed.

You already finished the first game
Go to Marvel’s Spider-Man: Miles Morales. Replaying Remastered is optional rather than necessary. Return to it only if you want to revisit the campaign or play its included expansion storyline.
The cleanest route for a returning player is therefore Miles Morales, then Spider-Man 2. This preserves the chronological handoff without making you repeat a game you have already completed.
You want to start with the newest main game
Marvel’s Spider-Man 2 can still be enjoyed without previous story or character knowledge. PlayStation makes that clear while recommending the earlier games for the fuller narrative experience. Starting there is reasonable if you only want the latest PS5 entry, but it means meeting developments that were introduced in earlier games without their original buildup.

The dates and platform listings above are the versions and information shown on PlayStation’s product and series pages. Store pricing, stock, edition names and regional availability can change, so check the current PlayStation Store or retailer listing before buying.
1. Marvel’s Spider-Man Remastered: the right first game for newcomers
Remastered is the appropriate entry point when the original game is new to you. The PS5 release packages the first story in a form specifically listed for the console and adds the complete The City That Never Sleeps storyline.
Why it belongs first
- It establishes the original Peter Parker storyline before the later games.
- Its events provide context for the characters and relationships that continue into Miles Morales and Spider-Man 2.
- The included three-part expansion lets a new player finish the additional story material associated with the first game before moving on.
Who can skip it
Players who have already completed the first game do not need to buy or replay Remastered to understand the recommended order. The skip is editorial guidance based on the series’ chronology, not a claim that the game has become unnecessary for everyone. New players should still treat it as the starting point.
Edition detail
PlayStation lists Remastered for PS5 and PC. The information available here does not establish a current price, a particular disc bundle, or which regional storefronts carry every edition. Confirm the exact PS5 product page before purchasing, especially if you are comparing a standalone copy with a bundle.
2. Marvel’s Spider-Man: Miles Morales: the direct next step
Miles Morales is the natural game to play after the original. PlayStation places its story about twelve months after the first game and lists versions for PS4, PS5 and PC.
Why it is the best follow-up
It moves the series forward instead of retelling the opening chapter. The game follows the next stage of the Spider-Man storyline and prepares the narrative for Spider-Man 2. Playing it before the sequel means the time jump and character progression occur in the order the series presents them.

What the Ultimate Edition changes
The Miles Morales Ultimate Edition includes Marvel’s Spider-Man Remastered. That bundle is useful for a player who wants both the original and the follow-up but does not already own the first game. If you have completed the original, buying an edition that includes it may duplicate a game you already have; compare the current contents of the PS5 listing before choosing.
PS4 versus PS5
PlayStation lists Miles Morales on both PS4 and PS5, as well as PC. This article’s order is about playing the series on PS5, so select the PS5 edition or a bundle that explicitly includes the PS5 entitlement. A retailer’s physical and digital packaging can differ by region, and the supplied information does not verify current stock or upgrade terms.

Marvel’s Spider-Man 2 is the third step in the recommended sequence. PlayStation places it roughly nine months after Miles Morales, lists it for PS5 and PC, and identifies it as a single-player game. Its PS5 release date is October 20, 2023.
Its defining setup
The game lets you switch between Peter Parker and Miles Morales. That two-hero structure is the reason the preceding games are useful: one introduces Peter’s story, and the other gives Miles his own preceding chapter before the sequel brings both heroes into the same main entry.
Can you play it first?
Yes. PlayStation’s story FAQ says the game can be enjoyed without previous story or character knowledge. That makes it a viable choice for someone who wants the newest title immediately or is borrowing a console and has limited time.
However, “can be enjoyed” is different from “is the best order.” If you care about the emerging narrative, PlayStation recommends experiencing the previous titles. Starting with Spider-Man 2 will not prevent you from playing the earlier games later, but it changes the order in which their story information is revealed.
PS5 and PC listings
The product information lists Spider-Man 2 for PS5 and PC. For this guide’s PS5 focus, verify that a listing is the PS5 edition and check whether it is a physical disc or digital license. Current prices, stock and regional catalog status are not fixed facts and should be checked at the time of purchase.
Do you need Miles Morales before Spider-Man 2?
No, it is not required for basic access or comprehension; yes, it is the recommended choice for story continuity. PlayStation explicitly says Spider-Man 2 can be enjoyed without prior story or character knowledge. The same guidance recommends the earlier games for players who want the fuller narrative.
Use this decision rule:
- New to the series: play Remastered, then Miles Morales, then Spider-Man 2.
- Finished the original: skip or replay Remastered according to preference, then play Miles Morales before the sequel.
- Only interested in the newest game: start with Spider-Man 2, accepting that earlier character and story context will be encountered out of order.
This is a narrative recommendation, not a claim that the games require one another technically. Each listed title is sold as its own game, while the series timeline is what makes the order meaningful.

What about Batman: Arkham Collection?
If you want another superhero action series rather than another Spider-Man game, PlayStation’s superhero guide describes Batman: Arkham Collection as collecting remastered versions of Arkham Asylum and Arkham City, together with Arkham Knight.
Keep it separate from the Spider-Man order. It is an adjacent recommendation, not a continuation of Peter Parker’s or Miles Morales’ story. The information used here does not establish a current PS5 compatibility path for every edition of the collection. Before buying, verify the exact edition, platform label and regional storefront listing; do not assume that every package has identical PS5 support.
Buying and platform checks before you start
The games are available in several combinations of console and PC listings, and bundle contents can vary. Use this checklist on the product page you are about to buy:
Do these 3 things before closing this tab:
1Scan for outdated or missing drivers - takes under a minute2Clear out junk files and repair common Windows errors3Fix the driver behind crashes, sound loss and screen glitches- Confirm the platform: select PS5 when that is your console, rather than assuming a PS4 listing automatically includes a PS5 copy.
- Read the edition contents: the Miles Morales Ultimate Edition includes Remastered; other bundles may have different contents.
- Check the format: verify whether you are purchasing a physical disc or a digital license and whether your PS5 model supports that format.
- Check the region: language, voucher and entitlement details can differ by country.
- Check current price and stock: neither is fixed by the historical release information summarized here.
PlayStation’s listings establish the games and their platform availability, but they do not make a retailer’s current inventory or price permanent. Treat a marketplace page as the authority for the transaction details on the day you buy.
Three practical play plans
The complete first-time plan
- Play Marvel’s Spider-Man Remastered.
- Finish the included The City That Never Sleeps storyline if you want all of the first game’s packaged story content.
- Play Marvel’s Spider-Man: Miles Morales.
- Play Marvel’s Spider-Man 2.
This plan gives a new player the entire three-game progression in chronological order.
The returning-player plan
- Start with Miles Morales.
- Move directly to Spider-Man 2.
Replay Remastered only if you want to revisit the original adventure or its included expansion. There is no need to repeat it simply to make the sequel playable.
The newest-game-first plan
- Start with Spider-Man 2.
- Play Miles Morales afterward if you want the preceding chapter.
- Return to Remastered if you want to experience the first entry last.
This plan is supported by PlayStation’s statement that the sequel can be enjoyed without previous knowledge, but it is not the preferred order for discovering the story.

Common mistakes to avoid
- Buying the wrong generation: a PS4 listing for Miles Morales is not the same product label as a PS5 listing. Read the platform field carefully.
- Assuming every bundle includes the first game: only the documented Miles Morales Ultimate Edition is identified here as including Remastered.
- Treating release order and story order as unrelated: the supplied timeline places Miles Morales after the original and Spider-Man 2 after Miles Morales.
- Assuming Arkham Collection is a Spider-Man sequel: it is a separate Batman series and should be evaluated on its own edition and compatibility details.
- Relying on an old price or stock claim: store prices, retailer inventory and subscription availability can change by date and region.
Final recommendation
If you have not played the original, buy or play Marvel’s Spider-Man Remastered first, then Miles Morales, then Marvel’s Spider-Man 2. If you have completed the original, skip straight to Miles Morales. Start with Spider-Man 2 only when you prioritize the newest game over experiencing the series’ story in sequence.
