For most travelers, Ray-Ban Meta is the best starting point for live language translation. It combines open-ear audio translation with mainstream smart-glasses hardware, calls, camera functions and Meta AI, and its live-translation rollout has official support for six languages. Choose Even G2 if you want translated words to appear privately in your field of view, XRAI AR2 if captions and speaker identification are the priority, or Solos AirGo V2 for an audio-first setup built around SolosTranslate.
Live translation on all four products depends on a phone, an app and, in most workflows, an internet connection. The glasses do not independently understand every conversation: the phone or a cloud service typically handles speech recognition and translation, then sends audio or text back to the wearer. Language totals are vendor-reported and are not a controlled accuracy ranking.
Quick comparison
| Model | Translation output | Vendor-stated language coverage | Phone and processing requirements | Camera and accessibility focus | Battery or weight figures stated by vendor | Best fit |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| Ray-Ban Meta | Open-ear audio; Meta also offers text translation through the phone | Six live-translation languages in current product materials | Smartphone with the Meta AI app; downloaded language packs are intended to support airplane-mode translation on the newer generation | Camera-equipped; voice AI, calls and mainstream smart-glasses features | Not stated in the supplied product notes | Travelers wanting the broadest mix of audio translation and everyday smart-glasses features |
| Even G2 | Translated text displayed in the lenses | 33 languages | Even Realities app, Bluetooth audio path and cloud translation; internet access is part of the normal workflow | Camera-free design; private, silent reading | Not stated in the supplied product notes | Wearers who prefer visual translation over spoken output |
| XRAI AR2 | Real-time captions and two-way translated text | 220+ languages in the June 2025 announcement; 300+ on the current product site | Speech-to-text processing runs on the phone to reduce glasses power use | Speaker identification, captions and noise cancellation; prescription-ready design | Up to eight hours and 49 grams, according to the June 10, 2025 announcement | Deaf or hard-of-hearing users, multilingual conversations and caption-first accessibility |
| Solos AirGo V2 | Open-ear audio, with translated messages also shown in the app | More than 28 languages | SolosTranslate works with the AirGo app and compatible AirGo V or V2 glasses | Audio-first; camera and accessibility specifications are not stated in the supplied notes | Not stated in the supplied product notes | People who want app-assisted spoken translation without a display |
The counts are not directly comparable. A vendor may count source languages, destination languages, translation pairs or app-supported languages, and the figures can differ by software generation and region. Confirm the exact language pair you need before buying.
What live-translation glasses actually do
A translation conversation normally follows four stages:
#1 Best Overall
- Read Before You Buy — No Video Output: These adapters support charging and USB 2.0 data transfer, but cannot transmit video signals. Except for standard USB webcams (which use USB data only), they are not compatible with HDMI/DisplayPort cables, video-capable USB-C hubs, or docking stations with video output.
- Convert USB-A Ports to USB-C: Designed to connect USB-C earphones, cables, flash drives, card readers, and other USB-C accessories to standard USB-A ports. Plug-and-play with no drivers or software required.
- Aluminum Alloy Housing: Built with a sturdy aluminum alloy shell that aids in heat dissipation and protects against daily wear and scratches. Designed to maintain a stable and secure connection.
- Compact & Travel-Friendly: The ultra-compact design allows the adapter to stay plugged into your device without blocking adjacent ports or adding bulk, reducing wear and tear on your original USB ports.
- 12-Month Warranty: Backed by a 12-month manufacturer warranty for peace of mind. Designed to meet strict quality control standards for reliable everyday performance.
- Capture: microphones on the glasses or phone pick up the speaker.
- Speech recognition: software converts the utterance into text. On XRAI AR2, this processing is explicitly described as running on the phone.
- Machine translation: the recognized text is converted into the selected destination language, usually through a cloud service.
- Delivery: the result is played through open-ear speakers, rendered as captions, or shown as text in a lens.
This pipeline explains why a pair of glasses can feel instant but still depend on a charged phone, Bluetooth and network access. Background noise, accents, overlapping speakers, weak data service and an incorrectly selected input language can all delay or distort a result. Treat the translation as conversational assistance rather than a guaranteed word-for-word transcript.
Ray-Ban Meta: best overall for most travelers
Ray-Ban Meta is the most balanced choice when translation is one feature among several. The glasses use open-ear speakers, so you hear the translated reply without covering your ears, while the phone remains central for setup, language packs and app controls. The same hardware family also supports calls, camera capture and Meta AI voice responses.
How its live translation is positioned
Meta announced a broad rollout on April 23, 2025 for English, French, Italian and Spanish. A September 2025 second-generation announcement described expansion to six languages and downloadable language packs intended to let translation continue when the phone is in airplane mode. The exact languages and availability can change by generation, country and software rollout, so check the language selector in the Meta AI app for your region rather than relying on a generic list.
“Whether you’re traveling to a new country and need to ask for directions to the train station or you’re spending quality time with a family member and need to break the language barrier, you can hold seamless conversations across English, French, Italian, and Spanish.” — Meta, April 23, 2025

Typical setup and use
- Install or update the Meta AI app on the phone you will carry during the conversation.
- Pair the glasses with the app over Bluetooth and complete the account and microphone permissions it requests.
- Open the translation or language settings and select the input and output languages. If your generation supports downloadable packs, download the required pair before travel.
- Start the live-translation conversation from the app or the glasses’ supported voice control, then keep the phone nearby for the features that still require it.
- Use the open-ear audio as the primary output. For text translation or language-pack management, look at the phone screen.
Strengths and trade-offs
- Strengths: natural audio output, familiar glasses form factor, camera and calling features, and the widest mainstream feature mix in this group.
- Trade-offs: translation is not primarily displayed in your vision, language support is narrower than the larger figures claimed by caption-focused products, and regional software rollouts can differ.
- Privacy consideration: the glasses include cameras. Tell people when you are recording, follow local recording laws and use the camera indicator and privacy controls appropriately.
Even G2: best for private in-lens translation
Even G2 is designed for people who would rather read a translation than hear it. Translated words appear directly in the lenses, allowing you to follow a conversation without broadcasting audio or repeatedly looking down at a phone. The camera-free approach can also be preferable in workplaces, museums and other settings where visible cameras create concern.
Language and processing model
Even lists 33 supported languages, including English, German, French, Italian, Spanish, Cantonese, Chinese, Japanese, Korean, Arabic, Bengali and Hindi. The glasses send audio over Bluetooth to the Even Realities app, which uses cloud translation. That means your phone must remain connected and internet access is part of the normal workflow.
Even’s support documentation describes a directional limitation in Conversate: translations appear only from the configured input language to the configured output language. If two people alternate languages, you may need to change the configured direction or use a mode that supports the desired pair; do not assume automatic bidirectional switching.
Recommended Free Tools
Setup and conversation workflow
- Install the Even Realities app and pair the glasses over Bluetooth.
- Grant microphone, Bluetooth and notification permissions so the app can receive speech and return translation prompts.
- Choose the input and output language direction in Conversate. Verify the direction with a short test phrase before starting a longer exchange.
- Keep the phone online and within Bluetooth range. Cloud processing means that a dead battery, disabled data connection or lost pairing interrupts translation.
- Read the translated text in the lens. Use the phone when you need to change languages, review the conversation or troubleshoot the connection.
Who should choose it
- Travelers who want silent, private translation instead of spoken audio.
- People who find open-ear speech difficult in busy streets, stations or shared rooms.
- Users who prefer a camera-free design and accept the need for a phone and cloud service.
The principal compromise is that the visual output can compete with your attention while walking or navigating. Pause and look around before reading a long translation, and use the phone or a human interpreter for safety-critical instructions.

XRAI AR2: best for captions and accessibility
XRAI AR2 is the strongest fit when live captions are as important as translation. Its June 10, 2025 announcement describes two-way live translation, speaker identification, noise cancellation, a prescription-ready design and caption support. The current XRAI site advertises translation for 300+ languages, while the announcement described 220+; the discrepancy reflects different product pages or software stages, not a controlled comparison.
“Whether you’re deaf, hard of hearing, multilingual, or just in a noisy environment, these glasses open up conversations in a way that’s instant, inclusive, and invisible.” — XRAI founder and CEO Dan Scarfe, June 10, 2025
Why phone processing matters
XRAI says speech-to-text processing runs on the phone to reduce power use in the glasses. Keep the phone charged, connected and close enough for the app to receive audio. The arrangement can extend glasses endurance, but it also means that phone permissions, app state and network availability remain part of the system’s reliability.

- Install the current XRAI app and pair the AR2 glasses according to the in-app instructions.
- Select the spoken language and the target translation language. For multilingual groups, confirm the direction before each speaker begins.
- Turn on live captions and, where needed, speaker identification. Test the microphone in the actual room because air-conditioning, traffic and crowd noise affect recognition.
- Position the text where it is comfortable to read and ask participants to speak one at a time when accuracy matters.
- Use the phone to manage language changes, account settings and any transcript or translation controls.
Prescription and endurance considerations
The AR2 announcement describes a prescription-ready design, up to eight hours of battery life and a 49-gram weight. “Up to” is a manufacturer maximum, not a guaranteed runtime under continuous captions, high brightness, Bluetooth and mobile-data use. Prescription compatibility still depends on the lens provider and prescription range, so obtain confirmation before ordering.

Solos AirGo V2: best audio-first alternative
Solos AirGo V2 uses open-ear audio rather than an in-lens display. Solos documents SolosTranslate compatibility with AirGo V and V2, and its FAQ says translated messages can appear in the AirGo app and play through the glasses. The FAQ lists more than 28 languages.
How SolosTranslate works
- Install the AirGo app and pair the AirGo V2 glasses.
- Open SolosTranslate and select the source and destination languages.
- Speak toward the phone or glasses as directed by the app, then wait for the translated message.
- Listen through the open-ear speakers or read the returned message in the app.
- Keep the phone connected and charged; the app is the control point for language selection and translated messages.
Advantages and limits
- Advantages: spoken output leaves your eyes free, the glasses remain useful for ordinary audio and the service supports both AirGo V and V2.
- Limits: there is no in-lens text output described in the supplied product information, and the app remains necessary for translation control and display.
- Best environment: one-to-one conversations where both people can pause between statements. Crowded rooms and overlapping speakers are harder for any audio-only system.
Choosing by output mode
| If your priority is… | Prefer | Reason | Accept the compromise |
|---|---|---|---|
| Hearing a translation while keeping your eyes on the person | Ray-Ban Meta or Solos AirGo V2 | Both use open-ear audio | Audio can be difficult to follow in noise, and neither product is presented here as a full caption display |
| Reading privately without audible speech | Even G2 | Translated words appear in the lenses | Cloud translation and directional language settings require phone and internet support |
| Captions, speaker labels and accessibility | XRAI AR2 | Its product positioning centers on live captions, speaker identification and two-way translation | Phone-based processing and app setup remain essential |
| Keeping a camera out of the conversation | Even G2 | The supplied product description identifies it as camera-free | You give up camera-based smart-glasses features |
Phone, cloud and offline requirements
Do not treat “smart glasses” as synonymous with “stand-alone translator.” The four products differ in where the work happens:
- Ray-Ban Meta: the smartphone and Meta AI app are required for setup and language management. Downloaded packs on the newer generation are intended to support translation when the phone is in airplane mode, but confirm that behavior for your exact model and language pair.
- Even G2: Bluetooth carries audio to the Even Realities app, and cloud processing is part of translation. Plan for internet access.
- XRAI AR2: speech-to-text runs on the phone, so battery, permissions and app connectivity affect captions and translation.
- Solos AirGo V2: SolosTranslate is delivered through the AirGo app and glasses, making the phone the language-control and message-display device.
Before departure, test the complete chain with the phone in the pocket you will actually use. A translation feature that works at home can fail abroad when roaming is disabled, a VPN blocks the service, Bluetooth reconnects to another device or the app has been suspended by the operating system.
Privacy, safety and social etiquette
Camera awareness
Ray-Ban Meta includes cameras; Even G2 is described as camera-free; the supplied notes do not establish equivalent camera specifications for XRAI AR2 or Solos AirGo V2. In locations where recording is restricted, choose a camera-free option or disable camera functions. Follow local consent and recording laws rather than relying only on an indicator light.
Best Value
- 5-in-1 Connectivity: Equipped with a 4K HDMI port, a 5 Gbps USB-C data port, two 5 Gbps USB-A ports, and a USB C 100W PD-IN port. Note: The USB C 100W PD-IN port supports only charging and does not support data transfer devices such as headphones or speakers.
- Powerful Pass-Through Charging: Supports up to 85W pass-through charging so you can power up your laptop while you use the hub. Note: Pass-through charging requires a charger (not included). Note: To achieve full power for iPad, we recommend using a 45W wall charger.
- Transfer Files in Seconds: Move files to and from your laptop at speeds of up to 5 Gbps via the USB-C and USB-A data ports. Note: The USB C 5Gbps Data port does not support video output.
- HD Display: Connect to the HDMI port to stream or mirror content to an external monitor in resolutions of up to 4K@30Hz. Note: The USB-C ports do not support video output.
- What You Get: Anker 332 USB-C Hub (5-in-1), welcome guide, our worry-free 18-month warranty, and friendly customer service.
Cloud speech and sensitive conversations
Even’s translation workflow uses cloud processing, and the other products also depend on phone apps or online services for at least part of the experience. Avoid using consumer translation glasses for passwords, medical histories, legal statements or confidential business information unless the provider’s current privacy terms and data-retention practices meet your requirements.
Safety-critical information
Machine translation can omit a negation, mishear a proper noun or confuse a dialect. For medication instructions, immigration interviews, emergency evacuation, contracts and other high-consequence situations, use a qualified interpreter or verify the result in writing. Glasses are a convenience layer, not a legal or medical authority.
Pre-purchase checklist
- Identify the exact conversation pair, including regional variants such as Cantonese versus Mandarin.
- Decide whether you can reliably hear audio or need captions and in-lens text.
- Check the current language list for your model, country and app version; vendor counts are not standardized.
- Confirm phone operating-system compatibility, Bluetooth behavior, account requirements and whether a subscription is needed.
- Determine whether translation works without internet for the precise language pack you intend to use.
- Check prescription-lens availability, fit, weight and return terms before ordering.
- Verify battery and charging expectations under continuous translation, not only standby use.
- Review camera indicators, recording controls and the privacy policy before wearing the glasses around other people.
- Confirm current price, stock, warranty and regional support at the time of purchase; those details are not established consistently in the product information above.
Which glasses should you buy?
Choose Ray-Ban Meta when
You want one pair for travel translation, calls, photos, voice AI and ordinary audio, and you are comfortable hearing translations through open-ear speakers. It is the most practical general-purpose recommendation, provided your required languages are supported in your market.
Choose Even G2 when
You value silent, private in-lens text more than cameras or speaker output. It is especially compelling for short conversations where reading a translation is less distracting than listening to synthesized speech.
Choose XRAI AR2 when
Captions, speaker identification, noise handling and prescription readiness matter more than mainstream camera features. Its language claims are the broadest, but the two different vendor-published counts show why you must verify the current app list.
Choose Solos AirGo V2 when
You prefer a straightforward audio-first experience and already want the AirGo app ecosystem. It suits one-to-one conversations where translated messages can be heard through open-ear speakers or checked on the phone.
Bottom line
There is no single winner for every translation situation. Ray-Ban Meta is the strongest all-round starting point, Even G2 is the clearest choice for private visual translation, XRAI AR2 is built around captions and accessibility, and Solos AirGo V2 keeps the experience audio-first. Make the decision from your output preference, exact language pair, phone and connectivity needs, privacy expectations and prescription requirements—not from a vendor’s headline language count alone.
