For most one- or two-person kitchens, start with a true five-cup brewer. The Bonavita BV1500TS is the clearest compact thermal-carafe candidate: its manufacturer calls it a 5-Cup One-Touch Thermal Carafe Coffee Brewer and says a full carafe takes approximately six minutes. If you prefer a glass carafe and a lower-cost format, the compact BLACK+DECKER CM0700B is the simpler alternative. Choose an eight- or nine-cup machine only after measuring the counter and cabinet clearance; the OXO models occupy substantially different footprints despite both serving more coffee.
“Five cup,” “eight cup,” and “nine cup” are manufacturer capacity labels, not guaranteed counts of full household mugs. Match the brewer to the number and size of mugs you actually pour, then verify the current dimensions, price, stock, and product revision on the live listing before buying.

- Read Before You Buy — No Video Output: These adapters support charging and USB 2.0 data transfer, but cannot transmit video signals. Except for standard USB webcams (which use USB data only), they are not compatible with HDMI/DisplayPort cables, video-capable USB-C hubs, or docking stations with video output.
- Convert USB-A Ports to USB-C: Designed to connect USB-C earphones, cables, flash drives, card readers, and other USB-C accessories to standard USB-A ports. Plug-and-play with no drivers or software required.
- Aluminum Alloy Housing: Built with a sturdy aluminum alloy shell that aids in heat dissipation and protects against daily wear and scratches. Designed to maintain a stable and secure connection.
- Compact & Travel-Friendly: The ultra-compact design allows the adapter to stay plugged into your device without blocking adjacent ports or adding bulk, reducing wear and tear on your original USB ports.
- 12-Month Warranty: Backed by a 12-month manufacturer warranty for peace of mind. Designed to meet strict quality control standards for reliable everyday performance.
- Counter width: Measure the horizontal space between walls, cabinets, and neighboring appliances. Leave enough room to remove the carafe and open the water reservoir.
- Counter depth: Measure from the backsplash to the counter edge. A machine can fit by width yet protrude too far to place a mug or operate its controls safely.
- Overhead clearance: Measure from the counter to the underside of the cabinet. Account for the height of the open lid or filter basket, not just the appliance body.
Use the OXO dimensions as a reminder that capacity and shape are separate decisions. The listed eight-cup model measures 13.5 × 10.5 × 7 inches, while the nine-cup model measures 17.5 × 8.2 × 10.5 inches. The numbers are presented in the order used by OXO; confirm which side the listing identifies as height, width, and depth before comparing them with your counter. The nine-cup brewer may be narrower in one direction but taller or deeper in another, so a single “width” number is not enough.
How many mugs can a five-, eight-, or nine-cup brewer make?
Do not convert the label directly into household mugs. The product pages cited here use “cup” as a capacity term but do not define one common serving volume across brands. A five-cup label therefore should not be read as five full travel mugs, and a nine-cup label does not promise nine large mugs.
Estimate your need from the vessels you actually use:
Recommended Free Tools
- Fill the mug or mugs you normally drink from with water.
- Pour that water into a measuring jug and note the total volume for one morning’s coffee.
- Compare that volume with the brewer’s current capacity specification, remembering that the manufacturer’s cup unit may differ from your mug.
- Add a little headroom if more than one person may want a refill, but avoid buying a much larger brewer if it will routinely make more coffee than you drink.
For one person who makes one or two modest mugs, the five-cup class is the sensible starting point. A couple who each use large mugs may find that an eight- or nine-cup machine is more practical, even if the appliance occupies more counter space. The right choice is the smallest capacity that covers your normal serving pattern without forcing repeated brew cycles.
The compact five-cup options
Bonavita BV1500TS: the thermal-carafe candidate
Bonavita identifies the BV1500TS as a “5-Cup One-Touch Thermal Carafe Coffee Brewer” and positions it for compact counters and small kitchens. Its thermal carafe suits households that pour coffee over a period of time rather than serving everyone at once. The one-touch control keeps the routine simple, and the manufacturer specifies automatic shutoff.
Bonavita states that a full five-cup carafe takes approximately six minutes. That is a published specification, not an independent timing test; actual time can vary with water temperature, power supply, and the particular unit. If your priority is a short morning cycle, treat six minutes as the maker’s reference point rather than a guarantee.

The product description also uses this manufacturer wording: “Our specially-designed showerhead is ideal for extraction in small batch sizes and the one-touch brew action with auto-off makes it oh-so simple to use.” The showerhead and one-touch design are useful comparison features, but the statement does not prove that this brewer tastes better than the alternatives.
BLACK+DECKER CM0700B: a compact glass-carafe alternative
The CM0700B is described as a compact five-cup coffee maker with a Duralife glass carafe. It is a straightforward option when you want a small labeled capacity and prefer to see the remaining coffee in the carafe. The cited description does not establish a brewing-temperature range, cycle time, footprint, or programmable functions, so check the current specification sheet for those details before ordering.
Glass and thermal carafes support different routines. A glass carafe is easy to inspect and is commonly used with a warming surface; a thermal carafe is designed to hold coffee without relying on a hot plate. Decide based on how you serve coffee, not on the assumption that one carafe material automatically produces better flavor.
BLACK+DECKER DCM600B: verify the current listing
The DCM600B is presented as a compact machine suited to apartments, condos, and offices. The cited product information does not state its capacity, dimensions, carafe material, temperature, or control layout. That makes it a possible small-space candidate, but not one you can compare fairly from the model name alone. Confirm those fields on the live listing and make sure the capacity matches your mug calculation.
A mug-first format for very small appetites
BLACK+DECKER CM0750S 4-in-1
The CM0750S takes a different approach from a traditional carafe brewer. Its 4-in-1 design can brew into a standard mug, a travel mug, or a five-cup carafe. The manufacturer markets it for apartments, RVs, dorm rooms, and smaller coffee appetites.

Choose the CM0750S over a conventional five-cup brewer when vessel flexibility matters more than a single dedicated carafe routine. Choose the BV1500TS or CM0700B when you nearly always brew a small batch and want the simplest matching carafe setup.
When an eight- or nine-cup brewer is actually the better small-kitchen choice
OXO 8-Cup
OXO lists an eight-cup brewer at 13.5 × 10.5 × 7 inches. Those dimensions should be compared with your measured counter and cabinet clearance before you treat the model as compact. An eight-cup label may better fit a two-person household with larger mugs, but the product page cited here does not define the cup volume or provide the temperature and control details needed for a deeper performance comparison.
OXO 9-Cup
The nine-cup model is listed at 17.5 × 8.2 × 10.5 inches and includes a double-wall thermal carafe, programmable controls, and temperature management. OXO lists a brewing range of 197.6–204.8°F (92–96°C). These are manufacturer specifications. They indicate what the machine is designed to manage, not a laboratory comparison showing that it extracts coffee better than a five-cup model.

Random freezes, missing sound and display glitches usually trace back to one bad driver. Find and replace yours safely.Free scan · under a minuteThe nine-cup machine can make sense when you need more volume but still want thermal holding and scheduled operation. Its 17.5-inch listed dimension may be decisive in a shallow kitchen or under low cabinets. Check the open-lid height and the direction in which the carafe pulls out, because the published three-number size does not describe every clearance needed for use.
Brewing temperature: useful specification, not a taste verdict
Temperature is one of the clearest technical comparison points in the available specifications. Bonavita lists 195–205°F for its Connoisseur 8-cup model. OXO lists 197.6–204.8°F (92–96°C) for its nine-cup model. The ranges overlap substantially.
Do not treat those figures as proof that either brewer wins a blind tasting. They are manufacturer specifications, and the cited material contains no independent side-by-side test. Temperature at the heater, at the spray head, and in the bed of coffee can differ, and the final cup also depends on grind size, dose, water quality, filter, and freshness. Use the ranges to identify machines that publish temperature management, not to promise a flavor result.

Thermal or glass carafe?
| Carafe type | Choose it when | Questions to ask before buying |
|---|---|---|
| Thermal | You pour coffee over a longer window or want the serving vessel separate from a hot plate. | Is the lid easy to open and clean? Does the carafe fit under the brew basket and on your storage shelf? |
| Glass | You serve soon after brewing and want to see the remaining volume at a glance. | Is a warming surface part of the design? Can you replace the carafe if it breaks? |
The cited shortlist identifies a thermal carafe on the Bonavita BV1500TS and OXO nine-cup, and a Duralife glass carafe on the BLACK+DECKER CM0700B. Carafe material is a routine choice, not an independent ranking of coffee quality.

A practical buying process
- Measure the installation spot. Record width, depth, and cabinet clearance with the lid open. Compare all three numbers with the manufacturer’s current listing.
- Count real servings. Use your normal mugs, not the printed cup label, to estimate one brew’s volume.
- Pick the vessel format. Select thermal, glass, or the CM0750S mug/carafe arrangement according to how coffee is served in your household.
- Choose control complexity. A one-touch machine favors a repeatable, manual start. Programmable controls matter only if you will use scheduled brewing and have a safe, stable setup.
- Use temperature claims carefully. Give extra weight to a published range when it matters to you, but do not treat it as proof of superior taste without an independent comparison.
- Check the live listing. Verify model number, dimensions, included carafe, voltage, warranty terms, price, stock, and whether the product revision matches the specification you read.
- Plan cleaning and replacement parts. Confirm that the filter basket, carafe, lid, and water reservoir can be removed and that replacement parts are available in your market.
Setup for consistent small-batch brewing
Place the brewer on a level, heat-safe surface near an outlet, with enough room to fill the reservoir and remove the carafe. Use the filter size specified for the model and keep the basket seated correctly so water cannot bypass the grounds. Start with the coffee dose and grind recommended in the current manual, then adjust one variable at a time if the cup is too weak or too strong.
For a five-cup machine, avoid assuming that a “full carafe” means five large mugs. Mark the reservoir or use a measuring jug so your daily water amount corresponds to the quantity you intend to drink. If you use a thermal carafe, pre-warming and lid-handling instructions should come from the model’s manual rather than a generic rule.
Independent reader supportYour contribution helps us test, update, and keep practical guides available for everyone.Cleaning and maintenance that protect a small brewer
- After each brew: Empty used grounds and rinse the filter basket and carafe. Leaving wet grounds in a compact basket can create odors and overflow on the next cycle.
- Keep the outlet clear: Wipe coffee residue from the showerhead area when the manual permits access. Do not poke or disassemble parts unless the manufacturer instructs you to do so.
- Descale on the manufacturer’s schedule: Mineral buildup can slow flow and alter heating. Use only the cleaning method and solution approved for your model.
- Clean thermal lids carefully: Coffee oils can collect in narrow passages. Follow the carafe-lid disassembly and rinsing instructions rather than sealing a wet lid for storage.
- Inspect seals and glass: Replace a damaged carafe, cracked lid, or deteriorated gasket instead of continuing to use it around hot liquid.
Troubleshooting by symptom
The brewer does not fit even though the listed width seems small
Recheck depth and open-lid clearance. A machine can meet the width limit while colliding with a backsplash, cabinet, or upper door. Move it temporarily to the intended position with the lid open and the carafe removed before committing to the purchase.
The carafe does not contain as many mugs as expected
The label uses a manufacturer cup unit, not necessarily your mug size. Measure your mug volume and select a larger capacity if one cycle does not cover your normal serving pattern.

The coffee tastes different from one batch to the next
Keep the water volume, coffee dose, grind, and filter type consistent before judging the brewer. Temperature specifications alone cannot isolate flavor changes, and the available product information does not provide controlled taste data.
The thermal carafe drips or the glass carafe overflows
Check that the lid is in its brew position, the carafe is centered beneath the outlet, and the basket is not overfilled. If the model uses a drip-stop mechanism, verify that the carafe is fully inserted before starting the cycle.
Price, availability, and model verification
Current prices, stock, retailer listings, and exact product revisions are volatile. No dependable price comparison is established for these models here, so avoid choosing by an old price displayed in a cached article. Search the exact identifier—such as BV1500TS, CM0700B, DCM600B, CM0750S, OXO 8-Cup, or OXO 9-Cup—then confirm the included carafe, dimensions, warranty, and regional electrical specification on the seller’s current page.
A listing that omits dimensions or carafe type is not necessarily wrong, but it gives you less evidence for a tight-counter decision. When a field is important to your setup, ask the seller or consult the manufacturer’s current manual before ordering.
How the shortlist compares with a larger premium brewer
A 2026 overview from Tom’s Guide reports a re-review of the Moccamaster KBGV Select and lists dimensions of 14 × 12.5 × 6.5 inches. That model is a larger premium comparison point, not evidence that it is the best small brewer. Its inclusion illustrates why capacity, shape, and price tier must be considered separately: a machine can have a relatively narrow side while still requiring substantial depth or cabinet clearance.
Bottom line: choose by serving pattern and measured space
Choose the Bonavita BV1500TS when a one- or two-person household wants a compact five-cup thermal setup and values one-touch operation; its approximately six-minute full-carafe figure is the manufacturer’s specification. Choose the BLACK+DECKER CM0700B when a compact five-cup glass-carafe format fits your routine. Choose the CM0750S when single mugs and a small carafe are equally important. Move to the OXO 8-Cup or 9-Cup only when your mug count requires more volume and your measured counter and cabinet clearance support the larger footprint. Treat temperature, showerhead, and cycle claims as specifications—not as proof of a taste or durability winner—and verify live dimensions, availability, and pricing before purchase.
