Choose safety before cushioning
If your employer requires slip-resistant footwear, a general GO WALK model should not be treated as a substitute for a work shoe. The Work Max Cushioning Elite is the clearest match in this group because Skechers specifies an SRO outsole for wet, dry, and oily surfaces and describes the shoe as suitable for standing and walking for extended periods.
That specification still does not mean the shoe is appropriate for every workplace. Check your employer’s footwear policy for requirements such as toe protection, electrical-hazard protection, color, or a particular certification. The model information here does not state that the shoe has a safety toe or protective features beyond the slip-resistant outsole.

Areena combines two systems that answer different needs. Arch Fit refers to the removable, supportive insole system, while Max Cushioning describes the shoe’s cushioning design. The removable insole is useful if you need to compare the supplied footbed with an orthotic, but confirm that any replacement insert fits without crowding the upper or lifting your heel.

Percy is the practical choice when bending down to put on shoes is difficult or when standard widths leave your forefoot cramped. Skechers lists Hands Free Slip-ins, a Heel Pillow, a removable Arch Fit insole, ULTRA GO cushioning, Comfort Pillars, fixed stretch laces, and an extra-wide version described by the brand as equivalent to 4E.

Why the entry system matters
Hands-free entry is a convenience feature: you can step into the shoe without untying laces. It is not a fit guarantee. Walk on a hard, level surface after putting the shoe on and check that your heel does not lift excessively, your toes can spread, and the upper does not press across the instep. If you need to tighten or loosen the shoe significantly, fixed stretch laces may not provide the same adjustment range as conventional laces.
Who should select Percy
Percy makes sense for long shifts when speed of entry, a roomy forefoot, and removable arch support are priorities. Check the width labeling in your country because the extra-wide description and available sizes can vary by market. Skechers explicitly describes this shoe as “Ideal for standing and walking for extended periods of time.” That wording describes intended use, not a controlled test proving it will prevent fatigue for every wearer. Follow workplace cleaning instructions and replace the shoes when the outsole is visibly worn; traction depends on the condition of the tread as well as its original rating.

Arch Fit versus Max Cushioning

Match the shoe to your shift
Office, retail, travel, and general walking

Wide or swollen feet
Check Percy first for its listed extra-wide option. The Work model’s Relaxed Fit is another route to more forefoot room. Try shoes late in the day, when feet are often largest, and wear the socks used on shift.
How to check fit before a long shift
- Measure both feet. Stand while measuring and use the larger foot when choosing length.
- Check toe clearance. Leave roughly a thumb’s width in front of the longest toe so downhill walking and swelling do not force the toes into the front.
- Check width at the ball of the foot. The sides should contact the foot without pinching, bulging, or leaving a large gap.
- Check the heel. A small amount of movement is normal, but repeated lifting or rubbing indicates a poor match.
- Walk and turn. Test stairs, a firm floor, and a gentle turn. Your foot should not slide forward or roll inside the shoe.
- Test both shoes. Feet are rarely identical, so judge the larger or more sensitive foot.
- Keep the return window. Wear the shoes indoors first and retain the packaging until you know the fit works.
Do not size down to make a soft shoe feel supportive. Pressure points become more significant during an eight- or 12-hour shift, and a removable insole cannot correct a fundamentally short or narrow shoe.

Even a comfortable shoe should be introduced gradually. Wear it for a short indoor period, then a partial shift, before committing to a full day. Alternate with a familiar pair during the first week if your job allows. Pay attention to hot spots at the heel, little toe, arch, and under the forefoot; persistent rubbing is a fit problem, not a normal break-in milestone.
Max Cushioning may feel softer and higher than a conventional flat shoe. That can reduce the sensation of hard floors, but it can also feel less familiar during quick lateral movements. If your work involves frequent side-to-side motion, test stability rather than judging the shoe only while standing still.

Cleaning and maintenance

Follow the care directions supplied with the exact pair, remove loose dirt before washing, and allow shoes to dry fully before the next shift. Check the exact model name and model number, especially on marketplace listings, because similar names can refer to different versions with different outsoles, widths, or safety features.
For the same reason, verify whether the extra-wide Percy version is actually offered in your market and whether a Work Max Cushioning Elite listing is the SRO version. A product title that says “work” or “comfort” is not a substitute for reading the specification for the pair in your cart.
Common buying mistakes
- Using a walking shoe on a required-safety floor: choose the explicitly SRO-rated work model instead.
- Assuming APMA acceptance proves medical benefit: it does not diagnose or treat a condition.
- Confusing arch support with cushioning: Arch Fit and Max Cushioning solve different selection needs.
