If customization means designing both your rider and the places you skate, Tony Hawk’s Pro Skater 3 + 4 offers the broadest documented creation toolkit here. For detailed clothing and skateboard-part choices, Session: Skate Sim is the better fit. Tony Hawk’s Pro Skater 1 + 2 remains a strong option for building, publishing and remixing custom parks. None is an objective winner: choose the game whose type of customization matches what you actually want to change.
First, define what “more customization” means
Skateboarding games use the word customization for several different systems. A game may let you change a character’s face and clothing, swap wheels and trucks, construct a park from modular pieces, alter a park’s visual theme, or create goals for other players to attempt. Those are separate capabilities, so a game with many outfits is not automatically the best park builder.
- Skater appearance: clothing and other visual choices for your character.
- Board equipment: components such as decks, wheels and trucks.
- Park layout: ramps, rails, obstacles and other placeable objects.
- Park presentation: themes, modifiers, colors and the appearance of pieces.
- Park rules: custom goals or challenges that define how a created park is played.
- Sharing: publishing, browsing, remixing or cross-platform access to user-made parks.
The three games below emphasize different points on that list. The Tony Hawk titles center their creation tools inside an arcade-style series structure, while the Session sources describe a realism-oriented skate-sim format with dual-stick controls.

Tony Hawk’s Pro Skater 3 + 4: the most complete documented creator combination
The official Tony Hawk’s Pro Skater 3 + 4 site describes expanded Create-A-Skater and Create-A-Park modes. That combination matters if you want to make a distinct rider and then build a place designed around that rider’s challenges, rather than choosing between a character editor and a level editor.
What you can build
- Create-A-Skater: the site presents this as an expanded mode for creating your playable skater.
- Create-A-Park: the park tool supports custom layouts, themes and modifiers.
- Custom goals: you can add goals to a created park, allowing the level to have objectives beyond simply collecting or scoring.
- Sharing: the official page says parks can be shared cross-platform, and it also lists cross-platform online multiplayer.
This is the clearest choice when “customization” means a connected creative loop: design a skater, shape a skate space and set goals for that space. The documented tools also make it suitable for players who treat park building as a core activity rather than a one-time side mode.
Important limits to verify
The official page does not establish that every creation feature works offline, nor that access is identical on every platform. It lists Xbox, PlayStation, Steam, Battle.net, Microsoft PC Store, Nintendo Switch and Switch 2 availability, but store listings, regional releases and edition contents can change. Check the platform-specific product page before purchasing.
The site identifies Standard and Digital Deluxe editions. Because edition contents differ, compare the exact listing for your platform instead of assuming that a feature, item or bonus shown in promotional material is included in every edition.

Who should choose it
- Choose it if you want both a custom skater and a custom park in one purchase.
- Choose it if adding goals and sharing parks are as important as placing ramps and rails.
- Choose it if cross-platform multiplayer or park sharing matters, but confirm that those services are currently operating where you play.
Session: Skate Sim: the strongest documented option for clothing and board parts
Session: Skate Sim’s official site describes “a deep customization system for your skater and skateboard.” The PlayStation listing gives the most useful quantified detail: nearly 200 clothing items and over 250 skateboard parts. The listing does not state a publication year for those counts; they are presented here as the figures shown on the page accessed in 2026, not as an independently audited inventory.
Skater customization
The clothing selection is the reason to start with Session if your priority is personal style. Nearly 200 items gives you a documented apparel-focused system rather than a vague promise of “many outfits.” The source does not define how those items are divided among categories, whether all are available immediately, or whether any are tied to a particular edition or platform, so inspect the current store description for your system.
Board-component customization
The same PlayStation page lists over 250 skateboard parts and names wheels and trucks among them. That is useful for players who specifically want to change hardware, not just the character standing on the board. The count refers to parts, not to 250 complete board configurations: the number of possible assembled setups depends on which components can be combined and any restrictions the game applies.
How progression connects to customization
According to the official description, challenges earn money that can be spent in skate shops. In practical terms, customization is connected to play: you may need to complete challenges before buying desired clothing or components. The cited pages do not specify a universal unlock order, prices or the total time required to obtain particular items.

- Flawless 4K@60Hz Video with HDMI: Delivers exceptional clarity and smoothness with its 4K@60Hz HDMI port, making it ideal for high-definition presentations and entertainment. (Note: Only the HDMI port supports video projection; the USB-C port is for data transfer only.)
- Double Up on Efficiency: The two USB-A 3.0 ports and a USB-C port support a fast 5Gbps data rate, significantly boosting your transfer speeds and improving productivity.

Feel and creative tools
Session uses dual-stick controls in which the sticks represent the skater’s feet. The PlayStation listing characterizes the game as realism-oriented and also describes a video-editing feature. This makes its customization appealing to players who want a more simulation-focused skating format and the ability to present clips, rather than an arcade game centered on building elaborate parks.
Platforms
The official developer site lists PS4, PS5, Xbox, Xbox Series, Steam and the Epic Games Store. Verify the exact edition and regional store page: broad platform coverage does not guarantee identical content, pricing or online functionality everywhere.
Who should choose it
- Choose it when apparel variety is your main definition of customization.
- Choose it when swapping board hardware, including wheels and trucks, matters more than constructing a park.
- Choose it when dual-stick, realism-oriented controls are part of the appeal.
- Do not choose it expecting a documented Create-A-Park system; the cited official pages do not describe one.
Tony Hawk’s Pro Skater 1 + 2: a mature park editor with community features
Nintendo’s product listing confirms upgraded Create-A-Park and Create-A-Skater features. Activision’s support guide, “Tony Hawk’s Pro Skater 1 + 2 Create a Park”, published September 3, 2020, explains the park workflow in more detail.
Do these 3 things before closing this tab:
1Fix the driver behind crashes, sound loss and screen glitches2Clear out junk files and repair common Windows errors3Scan for outdated or missing drivers - takes under a minuteBuilding and styling a park
The guide says you can build parks with obstacles and objects, change the appearance of individual pieces and alter the appearance of the park itself. That distinction is valuable: you are not limited to moving geometry around a default environment; visual treatment is part of the editor’s documented scope.

Publishing, browsing and remixing
Activision describes publishing parks online and browsing community-created parks. It also says creators can mark a park as remixable, allowing other players to modify that version. Remix permission is therefore a creator-controlled choice, not an assumption that every published park can be edited.
This gives Tony Hawk’s Pro Skater 1 + 2 a social creation cycle: make a park, publish it, discover other parks and decide whether to open your own design to remixes. The support article documents the feature design as of 2020; it does not prove that online services remain available today on every platform or in every region.
Who should choose it
- Choose it if a park editor, visual customization and community browsing are your priorities.
- Choose it if remixing other players’ designs is part of the appeal.
- Choose it if you want an upgraded Create-A-Skater mode alongside the park tools.
- Check current online support before buying for publishing or browsing; those features depend on live services.
How the three creation philosophies differ
Personal identity versus constructed spaces
Session puts the documented depth in the rider’s wardrobe and the board’s individual components. Tony Hawk’s Pro Skater 3 + 4 combines rider creation with park construction and custom goals. Tony Hawk’s Pro Skater 1 + 2 emphasizes park assembly, appearance changes and a documented publish-and-remix community loop, while also offering skater creation.
The Tool Desk
Outbyte Driver Updater FREEFix the driver behind crashes, sound loss and screen glitchesFind Drivers →Outbyte PC Repair FREERepair Windows errors before they cause bigger problemsFix Now →Simulation controls versus arcade creation modes
The Session sources explicitly describe dual-stick foot controls and a realism-oriented presentation. The Tony Hawk sources describe Create-A-Skater and Create-A-Park as modes within the series’ broader game format. That is a feature distinction, not a claim that one control style is universally better: decide whether you want customization attached to a skate simulation or to an arcade-oriented creation suite.

Private projects versus social sharing
If you mainly want to experiment privately, the editing tools themselves may be sufficient. If you want an audience, Tony Hawk’s Pro Skater 1 + 2 has the clearest documented publishing, browsing and remixing instructions, while Tony Hawk’s Pro Skater 3 + 4 advertises cross-platform park sharing. In both cases, verify current service availability before treating online access as a buying requirement.

Platform, edition and online-service checklist
Store pages and services change, so perform these checks immediately before buying:
- Match your hardware: confirm the exact console generation or PC storefront. A game’s appearance on a publisher page does not guarantee that every regional store sells every edition.
- Check your region: compare the local store listing, language information and release status. The cited Tony Hawk 3 + 4 page is a UK site, while the Session listing is on PlayStation’s US site and the Tony Hawk 1 + 2 listing is on Nintendo Canada.
- Compare editions: for Tony Hawk’s Pro Skater 3 + 4, the official site lists Standard and Digital Deluxe editions and says contents differ. Read the itemized contents for your platform.
- Decide whether online features are essential: publishing, browsing, remixing, cross-platform sharing and online multiplayer require service availability. The 2020 Activision guide documents intended functionality, not a present-day guarantee.
- Confirm the control setup: if Session’s dual-stick foot controls are central to your decision, verify the supported controller and platform version in the current listing.
- Check physical or digital format: availability, stock and pricing can differ by store and region; rely on the live listing rather than an old announcement.
Common buying mistakes
Assuming “customization” always means a park editor
Session’s documented strengths are apparel and skateboard parts, not a stated park-building mode. If constructing ramps and obstacles is non-negotiable, start with one of the Tony Hawk games.
Reading an item count as a number of finished setups
“Over 250 skateboard parts” does not mean 250 complete boards. Parts may occupy different slots, and the sources do not establish every combination. Treat the figure as an indication of component inventory.
Buying for online creation without checking service status
The Tony Hawk 1 + 2 support guide is dated 2020-09-03. Its instructions show what the system was designed to do, but they are not a current uptime statement. Check the platform’s current service notices and the game’s latest store information.
Assuming editions are identical
Edition names can hide different included content. Tony Hawk’s Pro Skater 3 + 4 specifically notes differing Standard and Digital Deluxe contents, so compare the exact SKU rather than relying on a trailer or a neighboring platform’s description.
A practical decision path
- Start with your target: choose “clothing and board parts” for Session, “skater plus park and goals” for Tony Hawk’s Pro Skater 3 + 4, or “park editor plus publishing and remixing” for Tony Hawk’s Pro Skater 1 + 2.
- Choose the control feel: Session’s sources describe realism-oriented dual-stick foot control; the Tony Hawk pages frame creation as part of their series game modes.
- Decide whether sharing matters: if it does, verify the current status of the relevant Tony Hawk online features before paying.
- Validate your purchase details: confirm platform, region, edition, format and any required online access on the live store page.
The Bottom Line
Pick Tony Hawk’s Pro Skater 3 + 4 for the broadest documented mix of skater creation, park building, custom goals and cross-platform sharing; pick Session: Skate Sim for clothing and skateboard-part depth; pick Tony Hawk’s Pro Skater 1 + 2 for a park editor with publishing and remix features. Verify platform, edition, region and current online support before purchase.
