For a short-throw laser projector in a living room, start with the Hisense PX3-PRO if you want a broadly positioned ultra-short-throw (UST) option, or consider the Epson EpiqVision Ultra LS800 if bright-room sports viewing is a priority. Those are editorial picks from TechRadar, not results of a head-to-head lab test. The right choice for your room depends on image size, placement, ambient light, screen, and local price.

Which short-throw laser projector should you choose?

Both models are UST projectors, designed to sit close to the wall or screen rather than across the room. Hisense lists the PX3-PRO for an 80–150-inch image and specifies 3,000 lumens; Epson lists the LS800 at 4,000 lumens with an image size up to 150 inches. These are manufacturers’ specifications, not independently measured results, and the figures should not be treated as directly comparable brightness tests. Hisense PX3-PRO product information; Epson LS800 product page.

Model Best fit in the cited guide Manufacturer-stated image and brightness Screen note
Hisense PX3-PRO Broad-use UST pick, according to TechRadar 80–150 inches; 3,000 lumens Confirm screen compatibility and placement for your setup
Epson EpiqVision Ultra LS800 Sports and bright-room choice, according to TechRadar Up to 150 inches; 4,000 lumens Epson describes its SilverFlex ALR screen as an optional pairing

The recommendations in the middle column are TechRadar’s editorial judgments, not universal rankings. Its guide does not establish that either projector wins in every room or use case. TechRadar’s UST projector guide.

How to choose for your room and viewing habits

Movies and mixed use

The PX3-PRO is a reasonable starting point if you want a UST for varied viewing: TechRadar positions it as its pick for most people. Hisense describes it as a 4K smart laser cinema projector with Dolby Vision and Dolby Atmos. Those are product claims, not a guarantee of how a particular room or sound system will perform. Check that its stated 80–150-inch range includes your intended screen size, then verify the exact placement in Hisense’s setup information.

Sports in a brighter room

TechRadar positions the LS800 for sports and bright-room viewing. Epson’s stated 4,000 lumens may help frame that choice, but it is a manufacturer figure rather than a measured comparison with the PX3-PRO. Ambient light still affects perceived image quality: if you watch with daylight or room lights on, compare the projector in conditions close to your own and consider how much light the screen and room will reflect.

Gaming or other mixed priorities

The cited sources do not establish comparative gaming performance, input lag, or other gaming-specific results for these models. If gaming matters, confirm the exact features and response specifications on the current manufacturer pages and look for independent measurements before choosing. Do the same for any feature that is decisive for your setup rather than assuming a general-purpose recommendation settles it.

Check image size and placement before buying

A UST projector’s short distance does not mean it can be placed anywhere without measuring. The target diagonal and the projector’s exact position determine whether the image fits your wall and cabinet. Hisense states an 80–150-inch projection range for the PX3-PRO; Epson states a maximum image size of 150 inches for the LS800. Those ranges alone do not give the complete placement geometry.

  1. Choose the image diagonal that suits your seating distance and available wall or screen area.
  2. Open the manufacturer’s placement chart or setup guide for the exact model and confirm the required projector-to-screen and floor-to-image measurements.
  3. Measure the cabinet or shelf position, screen height, and nearby obstructions against that chart before ordering.
  4. Recheck the measurements after selecting a screen, since its frame and installation position affect the usable image area.

Choose a screen that works with UST projection

Screen choice can matter more for a UST setup than simply selecting a surface with the right diagonal. Samsung recommends a screen dedicated to UST projection on its Philippines product page. That is manufacturer guidance, not proof that every buyer must purchase a dedicated screen. Samsung Philippines LSP9T product page.

Epson lists its SilverFlex ambient-light-rejecting (ALR) screen as an optional LS800 pairing. Do not assume an ALR screen intended for one projector will work properly with every UST model; verify compatibility with both the projector and the screen maker. A regional Samsung page also describes the Premiere LSP9T as a triple-laser UST example, but its market-specific material should not be used to infer availability, price, or full specifications elsewhere.
