Start with a stable 60 frames per second, then add image quality. On a PC close to the published minimum specification, use a custom preset, your display’s native resolution, disabled motion blur and camera shake, and an upscaler in Performance mode if you cannot hold the target. Leave VSync off unless tearing is distracting, and change one option at a time. On PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X|S, use the current game build’s display and accessibility menus rather than copying PC values: the available official information confirms capability labels, not a universal console preset or fixed performance mode.

Star Wars: Galactic Racer launched on October 6, 2026, for PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S, and PC. The recommendations below combine the Steam requirements with launch-era guidance from Games.gg and Destructoid. Those guides are starting points for lower-spec systems, not settings tested on every GPU, resolution, or console.

What “best settings” means in Galactic Racer

A racing game benefits more from consistent frame pacing and an unobstructed view of the track than from a single maximum-quality preset. Sudden drops can make steering and braking feel late, while blur and camera shake can hide turn-in points or traffic. The right balance depends on four variables:

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.
  • Hardware headroom: how far your CPU and GPU are above or below the Steam minimum and recommended specifications.
  • Output resolution: rendering at 1080p, 1440p, or 4K changes the workload substantially.
  • Frame-rate target: 60 FPS is a practical starting point for mid-range PCs; a faster monitor may justify a higher target if the system can sustain it.
  • Image preference: an aggressive upscaler can improve performance but may soften fine track detail.

There is no evidence that one combination is universally optimal. Treat the values in this guide as a controlled way to find your own stable result.

Check your PC against the published requirements

Steam lists the following baseline for the Windows PC version. These are compatibility requirements, not a promise of a particular resolution, graphics preset, or frame rate.

Component Minimum Recommended
Operating system Windows 10 Windows 10 (the listing does not state a different recommended version)
Processor Intel Core i5-8400 or AMD Ryzen 5 2600 Intel Core i7-10700 or AMD Ryzen 7 3700X
Memory 12 GB RAM 16 GB RAM
Graphics NVIDIA RTX 2060, Intel Arc A580, or AMD RX 5600 XT with 6 GB NVIDIA RTX 3060 Ti, Intel Arc B580, or AMD RX 6700 XT
Storage 50 GB available space on an SSD 50 GB available space on an SSD

If your machine only just meets minimum, begin with the lower-spec configuration below. Meeting recommended requirements gives you more room to test High or Epic quality, but it still does not guarantee a locked frame rate at every resolution.

Recommended PC starting configuration

Games.gg (updated October 8, 2026) and Destructoid (October 6, 2026) both target systems near minimum specifications and converge on a 60-FPS starting point. Their exact values are guide-author recommendations, not independent benchmark results.

It introduces powerful new features such as gyro settings, stick curve adjustments, and button-to-mouse mapping, giving you deeper customization and more control than ever before.

Use a custom preset first

  1. Open the game’s Graphics or Display settings.
  2. Select Custom rather than Low, Medium, or another all-at-once preset. This keeps each quality control available for testing.
  3. Set output resolution to your monitor’s native resolution. If performance is insufficient, reduce render scaling through the upscaler before abandoning native output.
  4. Choose a 60-FPS target as the initial goal on a near-minimum or mid-range PC.

Turn off visual effects that obscure the track

  • Motion blur: Off. This removes streaking during quick camera movement and makes braking markers easier to read.
  • Camera shake: Off. Disable it if cockpit or chase-camera movement makes lines and apexes difficult to follow.
  • VSync: Off initially. If you see visible horizontal tearing, enable it and reassess responsiveness; synchronization can add latency depending on the display and driver path.

Lower the expensive quality groups first

For a lower-spec starting point, the two launch guides recommend this split:

Setting group Starting value Why test it this way
Foliage Low Reduces dense trackside vegetation that can create heavy scenes.
Global illumination Low Limits indirect-lighting cost.
Landscape Low Reduces distant environment detail.
Reflections Low Controls expensive reflected scenery and lighting.
Shadows Low Reduces shadow-map workload and filtering.
Texture quality Low initially Uses less video memory; raise it later if the image is too soft and VRAM allows.
Anti-aliasing Medium Preserves a reasonable edge treatment while other costs stay low.
Post-processing Medium Keeps common image effects without starting at maximum cost.
Shaders Medium Balances material quality against frame-time spikes.
Effects Medium Retains racing effects while avoiding an all-high load.
View distance Medium Maintains useful track and scenery visibility.

These values are not a universal “best” preset. A card with ample VRAM may benefit from higher textures, while a GPU that is already saturated may need lower anti-aliasing or effects.

Use upscaling deliberately

  1. Enable the game’s available upscaler.
  2. Choose Performance scaling if the native-resolution configuration misses 60 FPS.
  3. Play the same race section and inspect distant signs, barriers, and track edges.
  4. If frame rate is stable but the picture looks soft, move to a less aggressive scaling mode or raise selected quality settings.

Both launch guides advise leaving frame generation off for this fast-response racing context. Frame generation can increase displayed frame counts, but the guides do not establish a universal latency or image-quality result for every hardware combination.

How to tune a PC without chasing placebo gains

Use a repeatable test rather than changing a dozen options and guessing which one helped.

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.
  1. Pick one representative section. Use the same busy corner, weather condition, or race segment after every change.
  2. Watch frame pacing, not only the headline FPS number. A nominal 60 FPS with frequent stutters can feel worse than a steady lower cap.
  3. Change one setting. Adjust foliage, reflections, shadows, or another group individually, then repeat the section.
  4. Keep the change only if it solves a visible problem. If a setting does not improve clarity or stability, return it to the prior value.
  5. Raise quality in order of personal value. Start with textures or view distance when the image is too plain; leave the costly lighting, reflections, and shadows for last.

On hardware comfortably above the recommended specification, test High or Epic rather than assuming that Low is required. Keep the same target and test at the resolution you actually play; a preset that is stable at 1080p may not be stable at 4K.

Suggested PC profiles by situation

Situation Starting profile Next adjustment
Near minimum specification, 1080p Custom; 60-FPS target; expensive groups Low; anti-aliasing, post-processing, shaders, effects, and view distance Medium; motion blur and camera shake Off; upscaler Performance; frame generation Off. If stable, raise one group at a time, beginning with textures or view distance.
Recommended-class PC, 1080p or 1440p Custom or High; keep blur and shake Off if they reduce readability; start VSync Off; use the least aggressive upscaling that holds the target. Increase reflections, shadows, and global illumination separately while checking frame pacing.
Powerful PC with a high-refresh monitor High or Epic as a test baseline; choose a target appropriate to the monitor and actual sustained performance. Prioritize a consistent cap over a peak number that falls during heavy scenes.
Image is sharp but stutters Keep native output if possible, lower the most expensive lighting, reflections, shadows, and effects groups. Use Performance upscaling only if individual reductions do not restore stability.
Image is smooth but too soft Keep the stable frame target; switch from Performance to a less aggressive scaling mode. Raise textures or anti-aliasing one step and retest the same section.

Steam Deck and other handheld PCs

Games.gg provides a separate Steam Deck suggestion: a system-level 30-FPS cap, 1280×800 output, reduced settings, and FSR Performance. That is guide advice, not an independently reproduced Steam Deck result, and handheld performance can vary with power limits, thermal conditions, and the current game build.

Console settings: what is documented and what is not

The game is available on PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X|S. The Xbox store listing labels it as optimized for Xbox Series X|S and advertises 4K Ultra HD, HDR10, and 60 fps+ capabilities. These are store capability labels, not a statement that every scene uses fixed 4K resolution or maintains a locked frame rate.

A TechRadar reviewer reported almost 30 hours on a base PS5 and described the experience as smooth at 60 FPS. That is one reviewer’s observation, not an official target or a guarantee for every PS5 scene, display, or future patch.

Console setup checklist

  1. Install the latest game update and your console system update.
  2. Open the current in-game Display, Graphics, and Accessibility menus and record which options your build actually exposes.
  3. Set the console and television/monitor to a supported output resolution and refresh rate.
  4. If HDR is enabled, calibrate the console and display using their own current instructions; no game-specific HDR values are established here.
  5. Play a busy race section, not only a menu or tutorial, and watch for judder, tearing, or image softness.
  6. Use the game’s accessibility controls for visual, audio, subtitle, controller-remapping, or toggle-control needs where available.

TechRadar noted accessibility options across visuals, audio, and subtitles, as well as controller remapping and toggleable controls. The review does not provide a complete, version-stable list of menu labels, so check the wording in your installed build.

Xbox online and platform considerations

Xbox’s listing says online multiplayer on console requires Xbox Game Pass Essential, Premium, or Ultimate. That subscription requirement is an Xbox listing statement and should not be generalized to PlayStation. Steam lists single-player, online PvP, and cross-platform multiplayer, while the official launch information identifies Campaign, Scenario, and Arcade modes.

For a run-based solo campaign in which a failed tour can end an attempt while some perks and unlocks carry over, stable frame pacing is a practical priority: a hitch at a corner can affect an entire run. That explains the emphasis on consistency, but it does not prove that one graphics option improves performance on every system.

Troubleshooting common problems

Frame rate stays below 60 FPS

  • Confirm that the game is using the intended GPU and that the SSD has the required free space.
  • Keep the native output resolution, then enable Performance upscaling.
  • Lower reflections, global illumination, shadows, landscape, and foliage first.
  • Disable frame generation as recommended by the launch guides, then retest frame pacing.
  • If the result is still unstable, use a lower frame-rate target rather than allowing large swings.

The image looks blurry after improving performance

  • Move from Performance scaling to a less aggressive mode.
  • Raise texture quality or anti-aliasing one step, not every setting simultaneously.
  • Check that the display is receiving the intended output resolution and that a television is not applying an additional low-quality picture mode.

There is tearing

VSync is intentionally off in the initial PC profile. Enable it if tearing is more objectionable than the possible latency change, then repeat the same race section. On console, use the current display and system options exposed by your platform; no universal console sync value is documented.

Camera movement makes racing difficult to read

Turn camera shake and motion blur off. These are the two visual changes on which both launch-era PC guides agree, and they can improve track legibility even when they do not change raw performance.

Performance changed after an update

Recheck the preset after patches. The game launched on October 6, 2026, and settings recommendations from October 6–8 are launch-era advice; later builds may alter option names, defaults, or performance. Record your previous values so you can roll back one change at a time.

Quick decision guide

  • Near minimum PC: Custom preset, 60-FPS target, Low for foliage, global illumination, landscape, reflections, shadows, and textures; Medium for anti-aliasing, post-processing, shaders, effects, and view distance; Performance upscaling; blur, shake, and frame generation Off.
  • Recommended or better PC: Start at High, keep the clarity options you prefer, and raise demanding groups individually while checking frame pacing at your actual resolution.
  • Steam Deck: 1280×800, reduced settings, FSR Performance, and a 30-FPS system cap as the Games.gg starting point.
  • PS5 or Xbox Series X|S: Use the current in-game menus and your display’s calibration. Xbox advertises 4K Ultra HD, HDR10, and 60 fps+ capabilities; a PS5 reviewer reported smooth 60 FPS, but neither establishes a universal mode or fixed result.
