Best settings for smoother performance in a Star Wars game depend on the specific title, platform, display and hardware. Start with that game’s Performance mode or frame-rate options, then adjust render resolution or scale and the most expensive graphics settings in small, reversible steps. Cap the frame rate at a level your system can sustain, test one change at a time in the same gameplay area, and remember that a patch may be required when hitching is caused by the game itself.
There is no universal best preset
Star Wars games do not share one graphics menu or one performance target. Jedi: Survivor on console exposes a Performance Mode, while Jedi: Fallen Order on PC offers controls such as Max FPS, VSync and Dynamic Resolution Scaling. Squadrons uses a resolution-scale slider, and Outlaws lists its own preset and upscaler combinations. A setting that helps one game may be unavailable, named differently or produce a different image in another.

- Frame-rate target and consistency: a steady 30, 60 or other cap usually feels better than a higher rate that repeatedly drops.
- Output resolution and render scale: reducing the internal rendering workload can improve performance, but fine detail becomes softer.
- Image-quality cost: ray tracing, shadows, view distance, effects and foliage can change appearance as well as frame time.
- Platform and hardware: console modes are fixed by the title; PC options vary with the graphics card, processor, display and available presets.
The publisher documentation used here describes controls and examples, not a cross-game benchmark. Treat every recommendation below as a method for finding a stable result on your setup rather than a guaranteed frame rate.

Identify the exact game and platform first
On PC
Open the game’s Video, Display or Graphics menu and record the options that actually appear. Do not assume that a setting documented for one Star Wars title exists in another. Check whether the menu separates display resolution from render scale, whether an upscaler has a quality/performance mode, and which frame-rate caps are available.
On console
Look for a Performance, Quality or Graphics mode before changing individual controls. Console versions often group several choices together, so selecting a mode may change resolution and visual detail at the same time. The labels and behavior can differ between console generations and between games.
Confirm what the display can show
A frame-rate cap should make sense for the screen’s refresh rate and for what the system can hold during demanding scenes. Choose the highest listed cap that remains consistent in your normal play area; do not select a number merely because it is the largest option.

A repeatable tuning procedure
- Load a representative area. Use the same level, checkpoint or open-world location each time. Include a busy scene if that is where stutter is most noticeable.
- Write down the starting state. Note the selected mode, output resolution, render scale, frame-rate cap, synchronization setting and any ray-tracing switch.
- Choose a realistic frame-rate target. If the game offers several caps, select one your hardware can sustain rather than chasing a peak that collapses during effects-heavy scenes.
- Set the game’s performance mode first. On a console, this may be the only high-impact switch. On PC, select the closest performance-oriented preset before making custom changes.
- Adjust resolution scaling or the upscaler next. Lower the internal scale in a small step, or move the upscaler toward its performance option if the game provides one. Check text, foliage and distant objects for unacceptable softness.
- Reduce expensive quality options selectively. Test shadows, view distance, ray tracing, effects and foliage before lowering texture quality, especially when your graphics memory is sufficient.
- Change one setting at a time. Return to the same gameplay area after each change so you can identify which option helped and which visual compromise it introduced.
- Keep the result only after a longer play session. A menu benchmark or quiet corridor can look smooth while traversal, combat or a new area still produces drops. Recheck the cap and settings after several minutes of ordinary play.
Settings that usually deserve attention
Frame-rate cap
A cap prevents the game from continually rendering beyond a level your system can maintain. The correct value is hardware- and display-dependent. Fallen Order’s PC menu may offer 30, 45, 60, 90, 120 or 144 FPS, depending on the system. Pick the lowest option that gives the motion you want without frequent drops, then verify it in demanding gameplay. Those values are documented menu choices, not a promise that every machine can reach them.
VSync and synchronization
Fallen Order’s PC documentation describes VSync as synchronizing the game’s frame rate with the monitor refresh rate “for more stability.” Use it deliberately: compare on and off while keeping the cap and scene unchanged. Synchronization can alter latency and frame pacing, so the better choice is the one that produces steadier motion on your display.
Dynamic resolution and render scale
Dynamic Resolution Scaling changes the rendered resolution to pursue a more consistent frame rate. If a game offers a minimum or target control, lower the image-quality floor only as far as needed. In Squadrons, EA explains the direction explicitly: “Any percentage below 100 will increase performance while percentages above 100 will increase rendering quality.” That rule is a Squadrons-specific description, not a universal instruction for every Star Wars game.

Performance and quality modes
Modes are convenient because they bundle several settings, but they hide the individual trade-offs. Start with Performance when consistent motion is your priority; switch to Quality if you prefer sharper detail and can accept a lower or less consistent frame rate. After choosing a mode, use custom controls only if the title allows them and you can identify which change is responsible for an improvement.
Ray tracing
Jedi: Survivor’s PC first-boot documentation says Ray Tracing is on by default and describes it as adding realism to lighting. If traversal or combat remains uneven, testing Ray Tracing off is a sensible diagnostic step because it removes one of the most visually costly features; the publisher’s page does not provide a universal performance gain for every PC. Survivor’s Patch 9 notes say ray tracing was optimized for CPU usage and should scale better for high-end GPUs, but that statement describes the update, not a present-day guarantee for every configuration.
Shadows, view distance and foliage
These controls affect how much geometry and lighting the game must maintain around the player. Lower them one level when frame time spikes in open areas or during large scenes. Survivor lists view-distance levels and custom controls for shadow quality and foliage detail; Fallen Order documents view distance and shadow quality as separate PC options. Keep the setting that removes the stutter with the smallest visible reduction.

Textures, effects and post-processing
Fallen Order’s PC menu includes texture quality, visual effects, anti-aliasing and post-processing. Lower effects or post-processing when explosions, smoke or screen-space effects coincide with drops. Reduce textures when the game offers a memory-related warning or when texture streaming is the apparent problem; otherwise, lowering them may make surfaces blurry without addressing the main bottleneck. Anti-aliasing changes edge quality and can be tested independently from resolution scale.

How to tune Jedi: Survivor
Console
- Open the game’s Settings or Options menu and find the graphics section.
- Set Performance Mode to On if increased frame rate is your priority. EA defines this mode as limiting resolution to 1080p for increased frame rate.
- If custom controls are available, lower view distance, shadows, visual effects or foliage detail individually when a particular scene still stutters.
- Keep texture quality higher than the other options when surfaces already look soft and the remaining problem appears during lighting, traversal or effects.
- Play the same demanding section again before deciding whether the mode is acceptable.
PC
- Begin with the game’s performance-oriented quality level and note the current resolution, upscaler and Ray Tracing state.
- Test Ray Tracing off if frame pacing is poor. Survivor’s documentation confirms it is enabled by default, while Patch 9 describes optimization; neither source promises the same result on every PC.
- Lower view distance, shadow quality, visual effects or foliage detail one at a time.
- Adjust the upscaler or render resolution only after testing those quality controls, because resolution changes affect overall sharpness.
- Cap the frame rate at the highest level that remains stable during traversal and combat, not just in a quiet area.
EA also recommends a controller for the best Survivor experience. That is a control preference, not evidence that using a controller improves performance.

When settings do not remove stutter
Separate a sustained performance limit from hitching
If lowering resolution and several quality settings improves the average frame rate but short pauses remain during traversal, the problem may not be solved by a preset alone. Survivor’s Patch 9 notes specifically list fixes for several sources of framerate hitching and improvements for various PC hardware configurations. Check the current patch state for the game before assuming another visual reduction will help.
Use the narrowest PC troubleshooting step that fits
For Battlefront II on PC, Star Wars Support advises avoiding other programs in the background during play. Apply that advice to Battlefront II troubleshooting rather than treating it as a universal rule for all games. Close unnecessary applications, retest the same scene, and keep the change only if it alters the behavior.
Do not mistake a mode label for a guarantee
Performance, Quality, Low and 30 FPS labels describe a configuration or target. They do not guarantee identical output on every console revision, PC or game version. If a listed preset still drops, record the exact title, platform, patch and settings before changing more variables.

What a good final configuration looks like
Record the final choices in a small note: game and platform, patch version, output resolution, render scale or upscaler mode, quality preset, frame-rate cap, synchronization state and any disabled high-cost feature. This makes it possible to restore a known-good setup after an update or to explain the problem accurately when seeking title-specific support.
The best result is not the highest number shown in a menu. It is the most consistent frame delivery you can maintain without sacrificing more image quality than you notice. Because Star Wars games expose different controls, repeat the same test whenever you change title, platform, display or major game version.
