For repeatable Angstrom Levy portal-combo practice, open Training > Practice, start with the dummy stationary, and repeat one route until its timing and spacing are consistent. Then use the available hitbox, frame-data, and damage-scaling displays to diagnose misses, and test the route against dummy movement or recovery behavior. This is a practical training progression—not an official Angstrom preset. The official materials describe Practice tools but do not publish a definitive “best settings” table or a tested portal-combo recipe.

Angstrom Levy and Challenges mode were both announced for October 13, 2026. Because an announced date does not confirm that content is available in every installed game at every moment, check the character select screen and Training menu before following the character-specific steps below.

Which settings should I use to practice Angstrom Levy’s portal combos?

Use Practice mode from the Main Menu’s Training option. Begin with the opponent dummy stationary so each attempt is repeatable. Once you can reproduce the route, change the dummy’s behavior and use the training displays to find out whether a failure came from execution, spacing, timing, or the opponent’s movement.

The official game overview identifies dummy settings, recordings, hitbox display, and frame data as Practice features. Season-one patch notes dated June 30, 2026, add a damage-scaling display and input-delay options ranging from 2 frames to 0 frames. Which settings are best depends on what you are trying to learn:

HORI Fighting Stick Mini for PS5, PS4, and PC - Officially Licensed by Sony
  • Small Form Factor Fight Stick featuring an 8-button layout and 8ft. cable
  • Great for both Arcade and Fighting Games
  • Compact, lightweight and portable design
  • Features Classic 8-Button Layout and HORI’s Original Joystick with V-cut Housing
  • Officially Licensed by Sony
  • Learning the inputs: use a stationary dummy and, if the option is available and you are practicing offline, set input delay to 0 frames. That is a suggested practice condition for clean execution, not an official competitive standard.
  • Diagnosing a hit or miss: turn on the available hitbox, frame-data, and damage-scaling displays. Use them to inspect contact, timing, and how the route’s damage changes.
  • Checking whether a route holds up: use dummy Jump or other available movement and recovery behaviors after the route works on a stationary opponent.
  • Reproducing an interaction: use Practice recordings to capture and replay a sequence when you need to compare the same timing situation more than once.

The settings names and options can vary with the installed game version. The official materials establish that these training tools exist, but do not specify an Angstrom-specific preset or a single best combination of toggles.

How to build a repeatable portal-combo practice session

1. Open Practice and make one variable predictable

  1. From the Main Menu, choose Training, then Practice.
  2. Select Angstrom Levy if he is available in your installed version. If he is not selectable, you cannot yet perform character-specific practice there; check again after the announced content becomes available to you.
  3. Set the opponent dummy to remain stationary for the first pass, if that behavior is available. This is a recommendation for repeatability, not a named developer preset.
  4. Choose one portal starter and one follow-up to work on. Keep the route and dummy behavior consistent across attempts so you can tell whether a change in result came from your input or from a different practice condition.

Angstrom is described in the official game news as a character whose kit centers on portals and orbs. The developers describe portals as useful for defense, offense, mobility, setups, and traps, and invite players to experiment with what passes through them and how those interactions play out. That breadth makes it useful to isolate one interaction at a time rather than treating every portal situation as the same combo.

2. Use diagnostics to locate the failure

Turn on the available hitbox and frame-data displays, then check the damage-scaling display introduced in the June 30, 2026 season-one patch. These tools answer different questions: hitboxes help you inspect whether attacks connect at the spacing you expect; frame data helps you examine timing; and damage scaling shows how damage changes through the route. They are diagnostic aids, not instructions that tell you which route is guaranteed.

When an attempt fails, change one thing at a time. First repeat the same route with the same dummy behavior. If the contact or timing differs, focus on execution and spacing. If the route works in the stationary setup but breaks when the dummy moves, the issue is likely that the route depends on that stationary situation. This controlled comparison is a practice method, not a claim about any particular Angstrom combo’s frame advantage or guaranteed follow-up.

3. Test against movement and recovery

After the route is repeatable against a stationary dummy, test it against movement or recovery behaviors offered by the training menu. The May 5, 2026 hotfix says that setting the dummy to Jump should produce a full jump rather than a short hop. That makes Jump a useful test for whether an air-route conversion still works against a moving target. It does not establish that every portal route can catch a jumping opponent.

Try movement and recovery tests separately. A route that connects against a stationary dummy may not reach a moving one, and a sequence that works when the dummy is vulnerable may not work after recovery behavior is enabled. Record the result for each setup rather than treating one successful attempt as proof that the route works in every situation.

4. Record interactions you want to reproduce

Practice recordings can help when you are trying to repeat a timing interaction or compare two outcomes. Record a sequence, replay it, and change one element—such as the dummy behavior or your follow-up—so the comparison remains useful. Recordings are a way to reproduce a situation; their availability does not guarantee that a recorded route is optimal or universally applicable.

5. Keep a simple practice log

A short note after each set can make your comparisons more useful. Record the game version, the route you attempted, the dummy behavior, the input-delay setting, and whether the route connected. You do not need a complicated spreadsheet: the point is to remember what conditions produced a result. If a route works while the dummy is still but fails on Jump, that distinction is more actionable than a general note that the combo “sometimes drops.”

Keep the first practice block narrow. For example, repeat the same starter and follow-up against the same stationary setup before moving to another portal interaction. Once you have a reliable baseline, change one condition—dummy movement, recovery behavior, or input delay—rather than changing several at once. This helps separate a timing problem from a spacing problem or a test condition that is simply different.

Which training scenario should I choose?

Practice scenario What it helps you learn What it does not prove
Stationary dummy Whether you can repeat the chosen inputs and spacing under consistent conditions. That the route works against a moving or recovering opponent.
Dummy set to Jump Whether an air-route conversion can connect against the dummy’s full jump behavior, as documented in the May 5, 2026 hotfix. That every portal interaction catches a jump or that the route is guaranteed.
Other available movement or recovery behavior Whether the route depends on the dummy remaining still or in a particular state. That a result applies to every in-match situation.
Hitbox, frame-data, and damage-scaling displays Contact, timing, and damage changes through the route. A developer-approved combo or a prescribed Angstrom setup.
Practice recording and replay Repeating a timing situation or comparing outcomes. That the captured sequence is the best or only route.

This is a practical comparison of training goals, not an official settings matrix. The game’s official materials establish the listed tools, but do not rank one dummy setup as the best for portal practice.

Think of the setups as serving different jobs rather than competing for one universal “best” setting. Stationary practice offers repeatability: it helps you focus on entering the sequence and reproducing its spacing. Jump and other movement tests offer a robustness check: they reveal whether a route still works when the target is not standing still. Diagnostic overlays offer detail about contact, timing, and scaling, while recordings make a chosen situation easier to reproduce. A sensible sequence is therefore baseline first, diagnosis second, and stress test last.

What should I look for when practicing portal interactions?

Angstrom’s portal-and-orb focus is confirmed in the official Invincible VS news feed, but the developers do not publish a specific combo route in the cited material. Their description emphasizes that portals can serve defensive, offensive, mobility, setup, and trap purposes, and encourages experimentation with what can pass through a portal and the interaction that follows. Treat that as a reason to test individual situations—not as a promise that a particular object, attack, or sequence will behave in a specific way.

For a controlled experiment, choose one starter and one follow-up, then note whether the interaction succeeds at the same spacing each time. Use hitboxes to inspect contact and frame data to study timing. If you are testing whether the route can convert against a moving target, switch to a movement behavior only after you have a repeatable stationary result. If you are comparing two outcomes, use Practice recording and replay to recreate the timing situation. The official sources do not state which portal setup is optimal, so let the observed result guide what you test next rather than assuming an unverified route is guaranteed.

Should I set input delay to zero?

For offline practice focused on clean execution, 0-frame input delay is a reasonable starting recommendation if the option is available. The June 30, 2026 patch notes describe Practice input-delay options from 2 frames to 0 frames. That range documents the available practice option; it does not make 0 frames an official competitive standard or a guarantee that your setup matches every online condition.

If your goal is to work on execution without adding the practice delay, begin at 0. If you want to examine how your timing feels under a different delay setting, change the option and compare using the same route and dummy behavior. Do not compare attempts made under different conditions as though the input environment were identical.

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.

Input delay is one variable in the session, not a shortcut to learning a combo. If the route is inconsistent, hold the delay setting steady while you check your inputs and spacing. Once you have a baseline, you can compare another available delay setting while keeping the route and dummy behavior the same. The official notes establish the Practice range; they do not prescribe a setting for tournament play or claim that one setting reproduces every online match.

How to use Challenges mode for combo learning

An official news item published October 7, 2026, announced Challenges mode for October 13. The announcement says each fighter will have ten challenges: five Beginner, three Intermediate, and two Advanced. It describes a guided input display and demo playback, which may help you learn the listed challenge sequences if the mode is available in your game.

  1. Open Challenges mode if it appears in your installed game and select a fighter’s challenge.
  2. Read the combo inputs shown on the left side of the screen.
  3. Use the Right Stick to play the demo.
  4. Use the Left Stick to scroll through longer input lists.

The announcement describes a way to view and follow challenge combos; it does not say that a challenge is specifically a portal-combo tutorial for Angstrom. Use Practice mode for your own portal interactions and treat Challenges as a separate guided learning option. Availability should be checked in-game because the announced date alone does not confirm what is installed or accessible on a particular platform.

Challenges can complement a custom Practice session: the announcement’s listed controls make it possible to inspect a challenge’s input list and play its demo, while Practice is where the documented dummy settings, displays, and recordings support repeatable experimentation. Do not assume that completing a challenge teaches every portal interaction or that its listed route is the only way to use a character. The announcement gives the challenge structure and controls, but not that broader claim.

Do you need a fight stick or a particular controller?

No particular controller is established as necessary or superior for portal-combo practice. Skybound Support confirms that fight sticks can be used and that controls can be rebound. The same support guidance says you can open control settings from Practice by pausing and switching to Options. Choose the controller and bindings that let you enter the same sequence consistently; the official information does not identify or test a specific controller model as better for Angstrom.

If you want to adjust bindings, you do not need to leave Practice: pause and switch to Options, according to Skybound Support. Change bindings only when you have a concrete reason, such as making the sequence more comfortable to enter. After rebinding, repeat the same route under the same dummy and delay conditions so you can tell whether the new layout helps your consistency. A fight stick is an option, not a requirement, and the available official guidance does not provide a price comparison, recommend a model, or claim that one controller type improves execution.

Why should you recheck routes after updates?

Combo behavior can change as the game is patched. The September 8, 2026 update made balance changes and fixed a Lucan combo route. That is a concrete reason not to treat a route found in an older version as permanent, even though it does not indicate that the patch changed Angstrom specifically.

When a route stops working, first confirm that the dummy behavior and input-delay setting match your earlier practice conditions. Then check the game version and test the route again with the diagnostic displays. This helps distinguish a changed practice setup from a changed game interaction without assuming that every failed attempt is caused by a patch.

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.

Make version checks part of troubleshooting, not a reason to discard a route after one failed attempt. A changed dummy setting, input delay, or control binding can also make results differ. Reproduce the earlier conditions first; if the route still behaves differently, inspect the current version’s update information and practice again. The September update is evidence that balance and combo-route details can be revised, not proof that Angstrom’s portal interactions were altered by that particular update.

What is confirmed—and what is a practice recommendation?

The official materials confirm that Practice is reached through the Main Menu’s Training option; that Practice includes dummy settings, recordings, hitbox and frame-data tools; and that the June 30, 2026 patch added damage scaling and input-delay options from 2 to 0 frames. The May 5 hotfix documents the dummy’s full-jump behavior. Official Angstrom news describes his portal-and-orb focus, and the October 7 Challenges announcement describes the challenge counts and input/demo controls.

Those sources do not establish a definitive best dummy preset, an Angstrom-specific training recipe, a tested portal-combo route, or a controller that improves execution. Starting stationary, isolating one portal interaction, and then adding movement or recovery tests are practical ways to use the confirmed tools—not developer-prescribed settings.

Frequently Asked Questions

Where do I find Practice mode in Invincible VS?

Choose Training from the Main Menu, then select Practice. Skybound Support identifies Tutorial and Practice as the modes under Training.

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.

What is the best dummy setting for learning a portal combo?

Start with a stationary dummy for repeatable attempts, then test movement or recovery behavior after the route is consistent. This is a practical recommendation, not an official Angstrom preset.

Can I use Jump to test an air-route conversion?

Yes, if that dummy behavior is available. A May 5, 2026 hotfix says Jump should produce a full jump rather than a short hop. It is a useful moving-target test, but does not prove that every route catches a jumping opponent.

Should I use 0-frame input delay?

For offline execution practice, 0 frames is a reasonable starting point if the option is available. The June 30, 2026 patch notes document a Practice range from 2 to 0 frames, but do not call 0 frames a competitive standard.

Do I need a fight stick to practice Angstrom Levy?

No. Skybound Support confirms fight sticks can be used and controls can be rebound, but does not identify a controller type or model as superior. You can open Options from Practice by pausing and switching to Options.

How do I replay a combo demonstration in Challenges mode?

The October 7, 2026 announcement says Right Stick plays a challenge demo and Left Stick scrolls longer input lists. The announcement set October 13 as the mode’s availability date, so check whether it appears in your installed game.

The Bottom Line

Start in Training > Practice with a stationary dummy, repeat one portal interaction, and use hitbox, frame-data, and damage-scaling displays to diagnose it. Then test Jump or other available movement and recovery behaviors, changing one condition at a time. Use 0-frame delay as an optional offline practice starting point, not a competitive rule. Check the current game version and in-game availability for Angstrom Levy and Challenges mode; the official sources do not publish a definitive Angstrom preset or guaranteed portal-combo recipe.
