For the unofficial native PC port of P.T., start with the Original (PS4) graphics preset and your display’s native resolution. Choose windowed, borderless, or exclusive fullscreen based on how you prefer to switch between the game and your desktop. Keep optional enhancements off until you know how the game runs on your system. These are conservative starting points—not benchmark results or a guarantee of a particular frame rate.
The port documents gamepad input as well as mouse and keyboard, but it is a separate project from an official PC release. It requires game files from your own PS4 copy; the project’s repository and installer do not include those assets. Before downloading anything, check the project’s current README and release page: the published downloads and supported platforms can change.
What are the best settings for playing P.T. on PC?
There is no single best configuration for every PC in the available documentation. A useful starting point is to preserve the game’s documented PS4 visual baseline, avoid adding demanding effects before you know how well the port runs, and then change one setting at a time if you have a specific problem.

Use the same scene and walking route when comparing changes, and adjust only one setting at a time. This will not produce a formal benchmark, but it makes it easier to tell whether a change actually helps on your computer. If you want the closest starting point to the original presentation, prioritize the Original (PS4) preset over extra effects.

What resolution should I use?
Begin at your monitor or TV’s native resolution. The port exposes a selectable render resolution, so you can lower the internal rendering size if the game is not performing smoothly. The README also distinguishes the selected render size from the desktop window in borderless mode; exclusive fullscreen instead lists supported display modes.
Keep native resolution when the game runs well
Native resolution is the clearest, least complicated starting point because it matches the display’s normal pixel dimensions. It is a recommendation for initial setup, not evidence that every PC can render at that resolution smoothly. The available documentation provides no comparative frame-rate figures, tested hardware configurations, or resolution-specific performance results.
Lower render resolution when performance is poor
If you notice stutter or other performance problems, lower the render resolution and see whether the experience improves. A lower render size can make the image look softer on a display that scales it up. If that trade-off is not worthwhile, restore the native resolution and try a lower graphics preset instead. Avoid changing resolution and several effects at once; otherwise, it is difficult to identify what made the difference.

Windowed mode gives you a smaller game window. Borderless mode is convenient for switching between the game and desktop, and the README says it can render at a selected size separate from the desktop window. Exclusive fullscreen presents supported display modes for selection. These are practical differences in how the game occupies the screen, not proof that one mode is faster or more reliable on every system.

Which graphics preset should you choose?
The project documents six presets: Low, Medium, Original (PS4), High, Ultra, and Custom. Original (PS4) is the appropriate first choice if you want the documented original-behavior baseline. Low or Medium are options to try if performance is poor; High or Ultra may suit a system that handles the game comfortably and a player who wants to explore enhanced visuals. Custom is for adjusting individual settings rather than choosing a preset as a group.
The preset names alone do not establish exact hardware requirements or performance differences. The available documentation does not provide a benchmark that ranks them, quantifies their frame rates, or establishes that High or Ultra improves the experience for every player. Treat them as configuration choices to evaluate on your own system.
Optional effects and image controls
The port lists optional ray-traced shadows, ambient occlusion, and floor reflections. Their controls are grayed out when unsupported. It also documents image-quality controls including shadow sizes, filtering, film grain, motion blur, depth of field, lens effects, and enhanced textures. These are optional adjustments, not requirements for playing the game.
- If a ray-tracing control is unavailable, do not try to force it through another setting; the project indicates that unsupported options are disabled.
- If performance is already unsatisfactory, lower the render resolution or choose a lower preset before enabling expensive optional effects.
- If you prefer the original presentation, keep added effects and image alterations off unless you specifically want them.
- Change one option at a time, then check the result in play rather than assuming a higher preset or more effects are automatically better.
Upscaling and frame generation
The README lists AMD FSR 3.1, NVIDIA DLSS 4.5, and Intel XeSS as upscaling options. It also describes frame generation for specified GPU families. The README says DLSS requires an RTX card and that FSR and XeSS work on recent GPUs on Windows. These capabilities and their availability depend on hardware and platform; the documentation does not establish that they improve image quality or performance for every player. Treat them as optional experiments rather than essential settings.

Should V-sync be on or off?
The port includes a V-sync toggle, but the available documentation does not identify one setting as best for all systems. Start with the current or default value. If you see screen tearing, try switching V-sync on and compare. If you are concerned about unwanted input latency, compare the opposite setting on your own setup. The result depends on your system and display; there is no sourced universal rule for this port.
Which display mode should you use?
The port documents three choices: windowed, borderless, and exclusive fullscreen. Pick based on how you use your PC rather than an assumed performance ranking.
- Borderless: A convenient choice if you often switch to other desktop windows. The selected render size can differ from the desktop window size.
- Exclusive fullscreen: Useful if you prefer the game to use a supported display mode directly. The project lists available display modes for this option.
- Windowed: Suitable if you want the game in a smaller window or need other desktop content visible alongside it.
If one mode behaves poorly on your machine, try another and compare. The project documentation confirms that these modes are available, but does not report a generally faster or more compatible choice.

Yes. The current native port’s README says that any gamepad works as a PS4 pad. It lists PlayStation, Xbox, and Switch button-prompt families, and says prompts follow whichever input was used last. The project also documents original vibration by default and enhanced feedback options.

That describes the project’s documented input behavior; it is not independent validation of every physical controller, connection method, vibration feature, or feedback option. No specific controller model is established as tested here. If prompts do not match the controller in your hands, press a control on the input device you intend to use and check whether the on-screen prompt family changes.
Gamepad or mouse and keyboard?
Choose the input you find more comfortable. The port supports mouse and keyboard as well as gamepad input, so a controller is not a requirement. Because prompts follow the most recently used input, switching between a controller and keyboard can change the displayed button prompts. The project also says a microphone is used for one part of the game, but documents a configurable keyboard key as a substitute; a microphone is therefore not mandatory.

The port is an unofficial native PC project by developer Lorean Xavier, not an official Konami PC release, an emulator, or a remake in another engine. The project README describes C++ game logic and a Vulkan renderer that read game data from the player’s own PS4 copy. The project’s repository and installer do not include those game assets.
The README lists these operating-system targets, subject to further GPU and platform qualifications:

Ray-traced effects have additional hardware requirements. The README also states that DLSS requires an RTX card. A listed operating system by itself does not guarantee compatibility: the graphics hardware, driver, and current release package matter too.
How to get the right release and game files
- Check the project’s current repository README and release page. Confirm the current release number, supported operating system, prerequisites, and which downloads are actually published before following setup instructions.
- Confirm that you have the required game data from your own PS4 copy. The project does not bundle P.T.’s game assets in its repository or installer. Do not treat the PC port as a complete game download.
- Match the download to your platform and hardware. Check the listed operating-system version and architecture, Vulkan or MoltenVK requirements, and any extra hardware requirements for optional features you plan to use.
- Follow the project’s current setup instructions. Release contents and setup details can change. Use the README for the release you are installing rather than assuming instructions for an earlier source tree describe a published download.
- Start with the baseline settings in this guide. Select Original (PS4), native resolution, a display mode you prefer, and the current V-sync value. Then adjust only if you encounter a concrete issue.
Release status is version-sensitive. The README information available for this article says the published 1.0.1 release contains setup downloads, while 1.0.2 source-tree changes and macOS packages are not yet published release downloads. That distinction may change; verify the project’s current release page rather than assuming a source-tree change is a downloadable release.
Is this the same project as Unreal PT?
No. Unreal PT is a separate historical fan remake built in Unreal Engine. A 2019 GameSpot report described that project as supporting mouse and keyboard, PS4 and Xbox One controllers, and VR motion controllers, and noted that it had a changed ending. Those details apply to the remake described in that report, not automatically to the current native port. The report also does not establish Unreal PT’s current availability.

For settings and controller details in this guide, the relevant project is the native PC port described above. Do not rely on older coverage of a separate remake to infer that this port supports VR or the same controller features.
How to choose between image fidelity, smoothness, and convenience
There are four useful criteria for comparing your own configurations: how closely the image follows the PS4 baseline, how smoothly it runs on your hardware, how convenient the display mode is, and whether you prefer gamepad or mouse and keyboard. There is no sourced comparative benchmark or universal frame-rate target for this port, so the right trade-off is one you can evaluate on your own PC.
- For the original visual baseline: Start with Original (PS4) at native resolution and leave optional effects off.
- For a performance problem: Try a lower render resolution or a lower preset before adding optional effects.
- For desktop switching: Try borderless; for a smaller game window, use windowed mode.
- For input comfort: Use either a gamepad or mouse and keyboard. A gamepad is supported but is not required.
- For troubleshooting: Change one setting at a time and compare in the same part of the game.
Developer Lorean Xavier described the goal as “I wanted to make the version of P.T. that my younger self always wished existed,” in an interview quoted by PC Gamer on 8 October 2026. That explains the project’s motivation; it does not change the practical distinction between its native port and an official release, or establish performance results.
