Use one Activision account as the identity hub for Modern Warfare 4 and Warzone. Sign in to that same account in both games and link every Xbox, PlayStation, Steam, Battle.net, or Nintendo account you use to it. Progression stays with the Activision account; it does not follow a platform account that is linked to a different Activision account.
Modern Warfare 4 launches globally on October 23, 2026, and Warzone begins integrating its content and seasonal progression with Season 1. Setting up the account links before you play is the safest way to avoid starting a separate progression history.

The account setting that controls shared progression
Cross-platform progression is tied to your Activision account, not separately to your console or PC login. Activision’s account guidance says that progression in crossplay-enabled games is stored on the Activision account, so you can play on any platform linked to that account and carry your progression with you.
That creates one non-negotiable rule: Modern Warfare 4 and Warzone must use the same Activision account. Your Xbox, PlayStation, Steam, Battle.net, or Nintendo account is the platform identity used to launch the game; the Activision account is the identity that stores the shared progression.

If a platform account is linked to another Activision account, its Modern Warfare 4 progress will not appear in Warzone under the account you expected. Creating a second Activision account for a new console or PC therefore creates a separate progression history rather than combining the two histories.
Set up the correct account before you play
1. Start with the account that already has the progress you want
If you already play Warzone or another connected Call of Duty title, use the existing Activision account that contains that history. Do not choose a newly created account simply because you are moving to a new platform. A new platform can be linked to the existing account; it does not require a new progression account.
New players should create one Activision account and treat it as the permanent account for every platform they plan to use. Keep the account identifier and sign-in details available while setting up each device so you can distinguish the intended account from a second account created by mistake.

After the October 23, 2026 launch, complete the in-game registration or sign-in flow and confirm the Activision identity displayed there. The identity shown inside the game is the authoritative check; a console profile name or PC launcher name alone does not prove that the correct Activision account is active.

- Some features may require an internet connection and an online subscription
Complete this check before earning levels, unlocking weapons, or buying anything. If the game opens with a new profile or an unfamiliar Activision identity, stop and correct the sign-in before continuing.
3. Link every platform account to the same Activision account
From Activision’s account-linking controls, attach each platform account you intend to use. Supported account types listed in Activision’s guidance include Xbox, PlayStation, Steam, Blizzard, and Nintendo. Link only the accounts that belong to you and that you expect to use for Modern Warfare 4 or Warzone.
Linking several platforms to one Activision account lets you move between those platforms while retaining the progression stored on the hub account. Linking one platform to a different Activision account defeats that arrangement even if the email addresses or platform profiles look similar.
4. Verify Warzone separately
Open Warzone and check the Activision identity shown in its account or registration screen before playing. The displayed identity must match the one confirmed in Modern Warfare 4. Perform this check on every platform where you install Warzone; a console can be signed into the wrong Activision account even when the console user profile is correct.

5. Make a small progression check
Once both games show the same Activision identity, check a familiar profile item or progression screen in Warzone. This is an account-verification step, not a promise that every Modern Warfare 4 item is immediately available: the Warzone integration begins with Season 1, and individual content can have its own availability rules.
What happens in common account-linking situations
| Situation | Expected result | Correct action |
|---|---|---|
| Modern Warfare 4 and Warzone use the same Activision account, with both platform accounts linked to it | Progression stored on that Activision account can be used on either linked platform | Keep this account structure and verify the identity in both games |
| A new console or PC is linked to a different Activision account | The existing progression does not carry over to that platform’s new account | Stop playing on the duplicate account and identify the original progression account before changing links |
| A platform account is moved from one Activision account to another | The two progression histories are not merged | Do not use relinking as a way to combine profiles |
| Only one platform is linked, but you want to play on another | The second platform is not part of the shared setup until it is linked to the same Activision account | Link the additional platform account before expecting shared progression |
| You see a different Activision identity in one game | Progression can appear missing because you are viewing a different account | Compare the in-game identities and correct the account association before earning more progress |
When Modern Warfare 4 content appears in Warzone
Activision says Warzone will integrate Modern Warfare 4 content and seasonal progression beginning with Season 1. That timing matters if you play Modern Warfare 4 before the integration is live: a correctly linked account does not mean every new item will be visible in Warzone immediately.
An Activision Warzone update dated September 24, 2026 says that Season 1 keeps Operators and weapons from Modern Warfare II, Modern Warfare III, Black Ops 6, and Black Ops 7 available in Warzone, including skins and blueprints earned or purchased for those titles. The same update adds a filter for displaying Modern Warfare 4 Operators.

| Content or feature | What Activision establishes | What to check in-game |
|---|---|---|
| Modern Warfare 4 seasonal progression | Warzone integration begins with Season 1 | Whether the relevant Season 1 progression track is active in your region and game build |
| Modern Warfare 4 Operators | Warzone adds a filter that displays them | Use the Operator filter after the Season 1 integration is available |
| Operators and weapons from Modern Warfare II, Modern Warfare III, Black Ops 6, and Black Ops 7 | They remain available in Warzone Season 1 | Confirm that the expected Operator, weapon, skin, or blueprint is present on the linked account |
| Campaign progress, challenges, or every purchase entitlement | The cited guidance does not promise that all such items transfer identically | Check the item’s own availability and platform terms rather than assuming universal transfer |
Launch platforms and the account setup each requires
Activision’s 2026 launch information lists Modern Warfare 4 for Xbox Series X|S, PlayStation 5, PC through Battle.net, Xbox on PC, and Steam, with Switch 2 availability announced in the same release. Regional timing, editions, and platform-specific availability can vary, so confirm the store listing for your location.

| Platform | Modern Warfare 4 support stated for launch | Shared-progression requirement |
|---|---|---|
| Xbox Series X|S | Yes | Link the Xbox account to the Activision account used by Warzone |
| PlayStation 5 | Yes | Link the PlayStation account to that same Activision account |
| PC through Battle.net | Yes | Link the Battle.net account to the same Activision account |
| Xbox on PC | Yes | Use the Activision identity already connected to the relevant Xbox account |
| Steam | Yes | Link the Steam account to the same Activision account rather than creating a second one |
| Switch 2 | Availability announced in Activision’s 2026 launch release | Confirm the current regional release details, then link the Nintendo account to the same Activision account |
Choosing between the full game and Warzone
Your purchase decision is separate from your progression-account decision. Decide whether you need the full paid Modern Warfare 4 game or intend to use only Warzone, then use the same Activision account structure either way. Owning the full game does not justify creating a separate account, and playing only Warzone does not make a second account safer.
Current retailer prices, regional editions, stock, and platform-specific currency or entitlement rules are not established here. Check the store page for your region before buying. Treat the Activision account link as the constant, and treat the edition, platform entitlement, and purchase terms as variables that must be verified for the platform you choose.
Unlinking, relinking, and why progress can seem to disappear
Unlinking does not merge accounts
Moving a PlayStation, Xbox, Battle.net, Steam, or Nintendo account to another Activision account does not combine the progress held by the two accounts. The progress remains associated with the original Activision account, while the platform you moved may now open a different history.

Account relinking can make the situation harder to diagnose. If progress is missing, first compare the Activision identity shown in Modern Warfare 4 and Warzone and review which platform account is linked to each identity. Only change a link after you know which account contains the progression you intend to keep.
If you already switched accounts
Stop earning new progress on the unexpected account. Identify the original Activision account that held the desired history, then follow Activision’s current account-linking restrictions when restoring the platform association. Do not expect the two profiles to merge, and do not create additional accounts while trying different combinations.

| Symptom | Likely explanation | Fix |
|---|---|---|
| Modern Warfare 4 levels or unlocks are absent in Warzone | The games are signed into different Activision accounts, or the Warzone integration is not active yet | Compare both in-game identities, confirm the platform links, and account for the Season 1 integration timing |
| Warzone opens with a blank or unfamiliar profile | The platform was connected to a newly created Activision account | Stop using the new profile and return to the original account before earning more progress |
| A Modern Warfare 4 Operator is not visible | Season 1 integration may not be live, or the Operator list is not filtered to Modern Warfare 4 | Check that Season 1 content is active and use the Modern Warfare 4 Operator filter |
| An older Operator, weapon, skin, or blueprint is missing | The account identity may be wrong, or the item may have an entitlement-specific availability condition | Verify the Activision account first, then check the item’s own availability rather than unlinking accounts |
| A purchase or currency balance differs between platforms | Platform-specific purchase and entitlement rules are not established by the shared-progression guidance | Check the purchase terms for the relevant platform and region; do not infer transferability from account progression |
| You cannot move a platform account as expected | Activision’s current account-linking restrictions may limit relinking | Stop repeated unlink attempts and use the account that originally stored the progression |
A practical setup for different player situations
Existing Warzone player moving to Modern Warfare 4
- Keep the Activision account that already contains your Warzone history.
- Install Modern Warfare 4 on the supported platform you plan to use.
- Complete the in-game sign-in flow with that existing Activision identity.
- Confirm that the platform account is linked to the same identity before beginning progression.
- When Season 1 integration is live, check Warzone for Modern Warfare 4 Operators and seasonal content.
Console player adding a PC
- Leave the console account connected to the Activision account that contains your progression.
- Connect the Steam or Battle.net account you will use on PC to that same Activision account.
- Launch both games on PC and console far enough to verify the displayed Activision identity.
- If the PC version shows a new identity, stop before earning progress and correct the account link.
New player starting on one platform
- Create or select one Activision account.
- Use it during the Modern Warfare 4 registration flow.
- Use the same account when opening Warzone.
- Link any additional platform later to that account instead of creating another account.
Player using several household platforms
Each platform account that needs access to the shared progression must be connected to the intended Activision account. Keep track of which Activision identity is shown on each device, especially when multiple console profiles or launchers are present. A second platform profile does not automatically inherit progress merely because it is on the same console or computer.
Pre-launch and first-session checklist
- Choose the Activision account that should own the progression.
- Confirm its identity in the game’s account or registration screen.
- Link every intended Xbox, PlayStation, Steam, Battle.net, or Nintendo account to that identity.
- Open both Modern Warfare 4 and Warzone and compare the displayed Activision identity.
- Do not create a second account to solve a platform move.
- Do not unlink accounts as a first response to missing content.
- Remember that Modern Warfare 4 launches on October 23, 2026, while Warzone’s Modern Warfare 4 integration starts with Season 1.
- Check regional store listings for the edition, platform availability, price, and purchase terms before buying.
The safest configuration in one sentence
Use the Activision account that contains the progression you want, sign into it in both games, link every supported platform account to it, and leave account links unchanged unless you have first identified exactly where the desired progression is stored.
