Use touch controls as the primary input, choose the largest screen you can comfortably carry, and adjust brightness and display scaling at the device level. A Bluetooth controller may be worth testing if you already own one, but the iOS and Android listings do not confirm controller support for the mobile build.

Android status
Google Play describes the same investigation-focused experience. Its metadata records an update on June 12, 2026. Android hardware, screen proportions and manufacturer software vary widely, so the controls and layout you see can differ after an update or on a particular device. Store requirements and regional availability can also change.
The best default setup
For a first playthrough, use direct touch on the largest screen available. An iPad or large Android tablet generally gives clues, names and descriptive text more physical space than a phone. A phone remains practical when portability matters, but it rewards slower, more deliberate examination.

- Use touch as your baseline. The mobile game is built around selecting objects and clues directly, so begin without adding a controller or other accessory.

Touch settings that are actually supported by the evidence
Apple’s game-design guidance treats touch as the default interaction method on iPhone and iPad and recommends direct interaction with game elements. That platform guidance aligns with the game’s point-and-click structure, but it does not provide a hidden list of Golden Idol settings.
Use a deliberate selection rhythm
Tap once on a suspected object, person or clue and wait for the game to acknowledge the selection. If you are working through a crowded scene, zoom your attention rather than tapping repeatedly. Rapid taps can select an adjacent target on a small phone display and make it harder to remember which evidence you intended to inspect.
Optimize the physical viewing position
Place a tablet on a stable surface or hold it with both hands so the screen does not wobble while you examine details. On a phone, landscape may provide more horizontal room in some layouts, while portrait may be easier to hold. Audio is optional for puzzle solving
No source reviewed identifies an audio setting that changes puzzle play. Use the device speaker or headphones according to your surroundings and preference; do not expect headphones to reveal a documented clue or control advantage.
Bluetooth controller support: what is known
iOS and iPadOS can accept physical controllers, and Apple documents pairing them through Settings → Bluetooth. That operating-system capability only means the device can communicate with some controllers. It does not prove that a particular game recognizes every button or supports a controller at all.
Neither the official iOS listing nor the official Google Play listing states that the mobile build supports Bluetooth, Xbox, PlayStation or MFi controllers. Consequently, a controller should be treated as optional experimentation, not as a guaranteed way to play.
How to test a controller you already own

- Put the controller in pairing mode. Use the controller’s own documented pairing procedure. Keep it near the phone or tablet during setup.
- Open the device Bluetooth settings. On Apple devices, go to Settings → Bluetooth and select the controller when it appears. Android menus differ by manufacturer, but the equivalent Bluetooth pairing screen is in system Settings.
- Launch the game after pairing. Do not assume that a successful system connection means the game has mapped inputs.
- Test a complete interaction path. Check movement through menus, opening a scene, selecting a clue, choosing a name or object, advancing text and returning to a previous screen. A controller that works in one menu may not operate every investigation action.
- Keep touch available. If any action fails, switch back to the screen rather than forcing the controller to handle an unsupported function.
- Do not buy an accessory solely for this title until it works. The listings do not promise mobile controller compatibility, so test an existing controller first.
What a failed test means
- No pairing: The device and controller have not established a Bluetooth connection. Forget the device entry, power-cycle both devices and repeat the manufacturer’s pairing process.
- Pairing succeeds but the game ignores input: The operating system sees the controller, but the mobile build may not implement controller mappings.
- Some buttons work and others do not: Partial support is possible. Use touch for clue selection, text or menus that do not respond, and regard the controller as a convenience rather than a complete replacement.
- Input is erratic: Disconnect other paired controllers, move closer to the device and test again. If the behavior persists only in the game, return to touch.
Phone, tablet or controller: choosing by priority
Choose a phone when portability is the priority
A phone is the easiest setup to carry and start immediately. It suits players who investigate in short sessions or do not want another device. Compensate for the smaller surface by increasing brightness to a comfortable level, checking display scaling and tapping slowly on small clues.

Choose a tablet when readability is the priority
A tablet gives scene details and written descriptions more room. It is the strongest default for extended sessions, players with visual comfort concerns and anyone who finds phone text tiring. The trade-off is size and weight: a tablet is less convenient to hold while traveling.
Try a controller only when you already have one
A controller can be a reasonable personal experiment if touch is uncomfortable or you already use one with your device. The evidence does not justify buying a controller specifically for the mobile game, because compatibility and button coverage are not stated by either official mobile listing.
