There is no universally proven “best” science modpack for Minecraft in 2026. The right choice depends first on the Minecraft version you are willing to run, then on whether you want a broad technology sandbox or a tightly gated, industrial progression.
For a modern 1.21.1 world that combines Mekanism, Applied Energistics 2 and guided quests, Enigmatica 10 is the closest fit. For the deepest and most demanding laboratory-style progression, GregTech: New Horizons remains the specialist choice, but it is a Minecraft 1.7.10 pack rather than a modern 1.21.1 release. All the Mods 10 is a broad tech-oriented alternative, although its exact 2026 version and feature set should be checked on its current official listing before installation.
Quick comparison: which science modpack fits you?
| Modpack | Minecraft version and loader | Science and technology style | 2026 release position | Best for | Important caveat |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| Enigmatica 10 | 1.21.1, NeoForge | Broad technology and magic sandbox with quests; includes Mekanism, Applied Energistics 2 and the Applied-Mekanistics bridge | Rolling releases; version 1.33.0 was listed on 29 September 2026 | Players who want current Minecraft, automation and a guided quest book | It is not a pure GregTech-style simulator; the exact mod list changes as the pack updates |
| GregTech: New Horizons | 1.7.10 | Focused, heavily gated industrial progression balanced around GregTech | Stable download: 2.8.4; the 2.9 line is beta | Players who want the longest, most structured engineering challenge | Very old Minecraft base version; beta builds can change and may be unstable |
| All the Mods 10 | Not established in the available 2026 evidence | Broad technology sandbox | Current release details were not verified here | Players who prefer a large, open-ended pack and want to verify its current listing themselves | Do not assume a particular Minecraft version, loader or endgame without checking the official pack page |
This is a practical shortlist, not a measured league table. No authoritative 2026 ranking, player survey, download statistic or standardized completion-time comparison was published for these packs. Version numbers also conflict on third-party pages, so the official pack file page or project site should be treated as the final authority.
What makes a Minecraft modpack “science” focused?
Science-themed packs turn the usual survival loop into a chain of experiments. You mine specific ores, process them through increasingly complex machines, design power and fluid networks, automate repeated steps, and unlock new materials only after meeting technical prerequisites. The appeal is not one particular machine; it is the dependency graph linking research-like stages together.

Broad engineering sandboxes
A broad pack gives you several technology families at once. You can pursue ore processing, power generation, digital storage, transport, farming automation and exploration in parallel. Quests act as signposts rather than a single mandatory route. This format is easier to approach with friends because different players can specialize, and it is forgiving when you abandon one mod in favor of another.
Gated industrial simulations
A specialist pack makes the production chain itself the game. Machines, circuits, fluids and alloys are often locked behind earlier tiers. A mistake in factory design can force a redesign several hours later, but each successful tier feels like a genuine engineering milestone. GregTech: New Horizons is the clearest example in this shortlist.
Why the distinction matters
“More mods” does not automatically mean “more science.” A large pack may offer dozens of independent systems with little interaction, while a smaller progression pack can require a carefully balanced chemical and industrial sequence. Decide whether you want breadth and freedom or depth and constraint before comparing feature lists.
Enigmatica 10: the modern Mekanism and AE2 choice
Enigmatica 10 (often abbreviated E10) is the strongest match for a reader specifically looking for Mekanism plus Applied Energistics 2 in a current Minecraft environment. The current release line is Minecraft 1.21.1 on NeoForge. A CurseForge listing showed release 1.33.0 dated 29 September 2026; because E10 is updated frequently, that number can change after publication.
What is actually bundled
The E10 mod list includes Mekanism, Applied Energistics 2 (AE2), and Applied-Mekanistics-1.6.3.jar. Applied-Mekanistics is the bridge that lets Mekanism processing and AE2 storage and autocrafting cooperate more naturally. In practical terms, you can use Mekanism’s machinery for ore and material processing while AE2 handles digital item storage, patterns and automated crafting, instead of treating the two systems as isolated bases.

How the E10 science loop feels
- Start with infrastructure: establish power, basic resource processing and a reliable supply of building materials.
- Scale processing: Mekanism’s machine chain lets you increase the number of products obtained from raw ores as your power and material supply improve.
- Move storage into a network: AE2 replaces a wall of individual chests with searchable digital storage and machine-facing automation.
- Use quests as a route map: the quest book helps identify milestones when the pack’s many optional mods make the next step unclear.
The result is a modern, flexible factory-building experience rather than a single fixed curriculum. You can follow the quest progression, build a specialized processing plant, or mix technology with other systems in the pack.

What E10 does not establish
The reviewed portion of the E10 mod list did not confirm whether Create is included, so do not choose the pack on the assumption that it contains Create. The pack’s rolling update policy also means that a tutorial written for an earlier build may show different recipes, names or machine behavior. Check the exact file and mod list for the instance you install.
Who should choose E10?
- Choose E10 if you want Minecraft 1.21.1 rather than an older game version.
- Choose it if Mekanism, AE2 and quest guidance are core requirements.
- Choose it if you want freedom to explore several technology paths instead of a single mandatory progression.
- Look elsewhere if your main goal is the deliberately slow, tightly gated GregTech experience.
GregTech: New Horizons: the deepest industrial progression
GregTech: New Horizons (GTNH) is a large progressive questing modpack for Minecraft 1.7.10, balanced around the GregTech mod. It is not a modern alternative to E10 on the same Minecraft version line; it is a different design philosophy built on an older game base.
Why GTNH is considered science-heavy
GTNH makes the manufacturing chain the central challenge. Progress depends on moving through technology tiers, producing intermediate components and planning power, materials and machine capacity ahead of time. The pack rewards documentation, factory planning and patience more than improvising a single overpowered machine.
Descriptions of GTNH commonly characterize it as long and steep, but no authoritative completion-time figure was established. Treat any claim that it takes a specific number of hours as anecdotal rather than a guaranteed schedule.

Stable and beta versions in 2026
The official downloads page lists 2.8.4 as the latest stable download, with Java 17–25 supported for that stable package. The official version history dates 2.8.4 to 23 December 2025. The 2.9 series is still beta: version history lists 2.9.0-RC-2 Beta on 4 October 2026, while an overview published earlier reported the first 2.9.0 beta build on 8 June 2026 and no fixed stable release.
For a dependable long-term world, start with 2.8.4. Test a 2.9 build only when you accept changing recipes, balance and compatibility, and keep separate backups of any world you care about.
Who should choose GTNH?
- Choose GTNH if the progression itself is the attraction and you enjoy solving multi-stage production problems.
- Choose it if you are comfortable with Minecraft 1.7.10 and the pack’s older ecosystem.
- Choose the stable 2.8.4 branch for a settled playthrough; choose 2.9 beta only for testing or experimentation.
- Do not choose it merely because you want Mekanism and AE2 in a current version; E10 is the better match for that requirement.
All the Mods 10: a broad option that needs verification
All the Mods 10 (ATM10) belongs on a shortlist for players who want a broad technology sandbox, but the available 2026 evidence does not establish its exact Minecraft version, loader, current release number or complete feature list. Those details can change quickly, and secondary descriptions are not a substitute for the pack’s official listing.
Before installing ATM10, verify three things on its current project page: the Minecraft and loader versions, the launcher format or manifest available for download, and whether the technology mods you care about are present in that specific release. If a tutorial claims a particular mod count, world-generation system or endgame, confirm it against the current file rather than assuming the claim still applies.

Pick by Minecraft version before comparing features
The version split is the most important decision in this comparison:

- Install Mod and Maps
- Want modern Minecraft? Select E10’s 1.21.1 NeoForge line and then verify the exact release file.
- Want the deepest GregTech progression? Select GTNH on 1.7.10 and decide between stable 2.8.4 and the beta 2.9 line.
- Want a broad pack but have no fixed version preference? Check ATM10’s official listing first; its current version was not established in the available evidence.
A world, server and tutorial must agree on the same Minecraft version, loader and pack build. E10 and GTNH are not interchangeable profiles, and a save from one cannot be moved into the other as if they were successive updates.
How to install a science modpack without choosing the wrong build
Launchers change their labels, but the verification process is consistent. Use the project’s official file or manifest rather than an aggregator that may display an obsolete version.
- Record the target build. Write down the pack name, Minecraft version, loader and release number before downloading. For example, E10 should identify Minecraft 1.21.1 and NeoForge; GTNH stable should identify 2.8.4 on Minecraft 1.7.10.
- Use a launcher that supports the pack’s official distribution. Install the pack as a new instance or import its official manifest. Avoid mixing individual mods from another Minecraft version into the profile.
- Set the required Java runtime. GTNH’s official stable download supports Java 17–25. Follow the pack’s current launcher guidance for E10 rather than copying a Java setting from a GTNH tutorial.
- Give the instance its own game directory. Separate directories keep configurations, saves and logs from other modpacks and make rollback possible.
- Launch once before adding extras. Let the pack complete its first setup, then reach the title screen and create a test world. Do not add shader packs, performance mods or manual replacements until the unmodified instance works.
- Back up before updating. Copy the world and instance configuration before moving from one release to another, especially when using a rolling E10 build or a GTNH beta.
Troubleshooting the problems readers hit most often
The launcher reports missing mods or a dependency error
Check the Minecraft version and loader first. A 1.21.1 NeoForge mod cannot satisfy a 1.7.10 dependency, even when the mod has the same name. Reinstall the complete pack manifest instead of copying individual jar files from another instance.
AE2 and Mekanism do not connect as expected in E10
Confirm that you installed the E10 release containing Applied Energistics 2, Mekanism and Applied-Mekanistics 1.6.3. Do not assume a tutorial’s configuration matches a later rolling release. Test the unmodified official instance before changing recipes or adding compatibility mods.
A GTNH world behaves differently after an update
Check whether you moved from stable 2.8.4 to a 2.9 beta build. Beta releases can alter balance and compatibility. Restore the pre-update backup if a machine, recipe or quest progression is no longer correct, then consult the version-specific notes for the build you selected.

- ● Themed catalogs help you quickly find the content you need

A download page shows a conflicting version
Prefer the official CurseForge file page for E10 and the official GTNH downloads and version-history pages over an aggregator or outdated wiki. The evidence for GTNH already shows why this matters: an older wiki entry lists a version that conflicts with the official stable 2.8.4 release.

A practical decision framework
Choose Enigmatica 10 when your checklist says “modern and connected”
E10 is the practical answer when your non-negotiables are Minecraft 1.21.1, NeoForge, Mekanism, AE2, the Applied-Mekanistics bridge and quest guidance. It gives you room to build a factory at your own pace without committing to GTNH’s older version and stricter gates.
Choose GTNH when your checklist says “depth over convenience”
GTNH is the specialist answer when you want every new tier to depend on deliberate industrial planning. Start on stable 2.8.4 unless you specifically want to test the 2.9 beta line. Accept the 1.7.10 foundation and a progression that is widely described as long and demanding.
Choose ATM10 only after checking the current file
ATM10 can suit players who value breadth and experimentation, but its exact 2026 technical details were not established here. Verify them directly before committing a new world or server to it.

What “best” means in 2026
There is no defensible single winner across these packs because they solve different problems. E10 is the best fit for a current-version Mekanism-and-AE2 setup with quests. GTNH is the best fit for a dedicated GregTech progression that prioritizes depth over modern-version compatibility. ATM10 is a candidate for broad sandbox play, subject to current-release verification.
Make the version decision first, lock the exact build second, and only then compare individual mods. That order prevents the most expensive mistake in modded Minecraft: building a long-term world on a pack that cannot provide the version, progression style or compatibility you actually wanted.
