There is no evidence-based resale-value winner among current book-style foldables. The Google Pixel 10 Pro Fold is a documented US alternative, while the Honor Magic V5 appears in a 2026 UK buying guide. The Pixel 9 Pro Fold and OnePlus Open are older comparison options whose current availability must be checked. None can be ranked above the Galaxy Z Fold from the available evidence because there is no consistent, current set of completed used-phone sales controlling for country, age, storage and condition.
For a resale-conscious purchase, compare the exact transaction you can make: your local new or refurbished price, warranty and returns, a condition-specific trade-in estimate, any temporary promotional value, and realistic private-sale proceeds. Manufacturer trade-in credit is not the same measurement as cash received from an open-market sale.
What the evidence can—and cannot—tell you
Foldable phones lose value for reasons that vary by market and individual device. The list is deliberately separated by geography. A phone sold in the United States may have different storage configurations, service arrangements, trade-in partners and warranty terms from the same family sold in the United Kingdom or elsewhere.
Why a trade-in quote is not a resale ranking
Google explains that its estimate depends on the model and condition submitted, and that the final amount is set after inspection. Its own wording is: “Estimated trade-in values are based on your trade-in device’s current market value and may include additional promotional value based on Google Store promotions.” Read the full rules at Google Store Help and start a quote from the Google Store trade-in page.
The distinction matters. Suppose a checkout screen shows a large credit toward a new phone. The amount can combine the underlying value of your old device with a limited-time bonus, and it may be usable only under that purchase’s conditions. A private buyer would not necessarily pay the bonus. Conversely, a private sale can produce cash but requires finding a buyer, handling payment and shipping, and accepting more risk.
OnePlus describes an estimated value, a post-purchase process and shipment of the old device on its US trade-in page. Its trade-in rules state that reimbursement is at a value determined by OnePlus. Those pages establish that a manufacturer route exists; they do not show a current retention rate for the OnePlus Open.

Samsung Business publishes qualifying models, credits and condition requirements at Samsung Business trade-in. This is a business bulk-trade-in context, not a consumer resale benchmark. Do not use its figures to compare household resale performance with another phone.
How to compare an alternative with your Galaxy Z Fold transaction
Use the following procedure at the time you are ready to buy. It prevents a promotional credit, an optimistic condition grade or a regional mismatch from being mistaken for resale evidence.
- Define the exact device. Record model generation, storage, colour, carrier or unlocked status, country of purchase and whether the phone is new, used or refurbished.
- Grade the condition honestly. Note scratches, dents, dead pixels, screen protectors, hinge movement, cameras, ports, battery behaviour, packaging and accessories. A quote for a flawless device cannot be applied to a worn one.
- Check local eligibility. Enter your postcode or market on the manufacturer’s trade-in flow. A model accepted in the US may not be accepted in the UK, and a listed model can be excluded by carrier or regional rules.
- Save the quote and its date. Record the displayed base amount, promotional bonus, expiration date, credit form and any requirement to buy a particular model. Estimates can change before inspection.
- Read inspection and downgrade terms. Confirm what happens if the received device differs from your answers, arrives late, is locked, has activation protection enabled or fails inspection. Look for whether you can reject a revised amount and have the phone returned.
- Calculate the complete transaction. Subtract only the credit you can actually use from the price of the replacement, then add taxes, shipping, accessories and any lost value from giving up a private sale. Keep promotional credit separate from the ordinary device value.
- Check a private-sale baseline. Look for completed sales of the same storage and condition in your country, not just unsold listings. The available sources do not provide a verified cross-model sales series, so your local observations remain transaction-specific.
- Compare the entry price. A used or refurbished phone bought at a substantial discount can put fewer dollars at risk even when its future percentage retention is unknown. Include warranty length, return window and who pays for a return shipment.
Google Pixel 10 Pro Fold: the clearest US alternative
The Pixel 10 Pro Fold is the best-documented current US alternative in the supplied material. Google maintains an official product page, and a 2026 buying guide lists it among US book-style foldables. That establishes product availability as an option, not a resale advantage.

- Whether Google’s warranty and repair service apply to a device purchased from your intended seller.
- The current trade-in estimate for your exact old phone and condition.
- Whether the displayed amount contains a temporary Google Store promotion and when it ends.
- Whether the credit is applied at checkout, issued after inspection or provided in another form.
A Japan-specific product page displayed a maximum trade-in amount of ¥107,700 for an eligible Pixel 9 Pro Fold during a Google Store Japan promotion in 2025. The offer had conditions and ended on October 13, 2025; it is expired, market-specific information, not a current quote and not evidence of resale performance. Honor Magic V5: a UK option that needs local verification
A 2026 buying guide identifies the Honor Magic V5 as a UK book-style foldable option. The available evidence does not include a comparable used-sale dataset or a current trade-in figure for it. Treat UK availability, repair arrangements and warranty coverage as purchase checks rather than assuming that the model will hold value better.

- Is the exact variant officially sold in the UK, and does it include a UK warranty?

An Android Central comparison published in 2025 discusses both the Pixel 9 Pro Fold and OnePlus Open as alternatives. That article is useful for identifying products that buyers considered, but it does not establish present-day resale outcomes. Product generations age, retailer inventory changes and software or repair support can vary by country.
For the OnePlus Open, OnePlus US’s trade-in pages show a process but do not state a current Open value in the material reviewed. Obtain a quote for the exact device and read the reimbursement rules before using the program in a cost calculation. Do not convert the existence of a trade-in page into a claim that the Open retains more than a Galaxy Z Fold.

Android Central reported in July 2025 that a Samsung preorder promotion for the Galaxy Z Fold 7 offered credits of $900 for a Galaxy Z Fold 5 and $800 for a Galaxy Z Fold 4. Those were historical promotional credits toward a specific preorder, not current offers and not independent resale prices. The report is at Android Central.

Do not turn those figures into a depreciation percentage. A valid retention calculation would require the original purchase price, the same storage and condition, the date and market, and a comparable cash sale or non-promotional trade-in value. The cited report does not supply a controlled set of those inputs.

A resale-conscious strategy does not have to begin with a new phone. Buying used or refurbished can reduce the amount of money exposed to future depreciation. That is a cash-flow decision, not proof that the selected model will retain a higher percentage.
Inspect the warranty and return policy
- Identify the warranty provider, duration and geographic coverage.
- Confirm whether hinge, inner-screen and crease problems are covered or excluded.
- Check the return window, restocking fee and return-shipping responsibility.
- Verify that the device is unlocked, removed from the previous owner’s account and free of activation locks.
- Match the advertised condition to the actual screen, frame, hinge, cameras, speakers, charging and biometric sensors.
Use a simple risk calculation
For any candidate, write down the amount paid today, the warranty-backed period, the expected trade-in quote you can obtain now and the amount you believe a private buyer might pay. Keep each figure labelled as an estimate, promotion or completed sale. The difference between purchase price and a future amount is meaningful only when the dates, market, storage and condition are comparable.
Common mistakes that inflate apparent resale value
