If you want an RPG where saving the world means deciding what should replace its broken order—not simply restoring the status quo—Shin Megami Tensei V: Vengeance is the strongest fit. Shin Megami Tensei: Strange Journey Redux offers a science-fiction crisis with added story content and endings, while Xenoblade Chronicles 3 is a related story about resisting a coercive system, not a verified example of an ending that destroys the old world.

“Destroying the old one” can mean different things in an RPG: ending a world-threatening crisis, choosing a new order, or resisting a system that keeps the world in conflict. Those ideas overlap, but they are not interchangeable. Shin Megami Tensei V: Vengeance is the clearest match
Nintendo’s official listing describes a journey from modern-day Tokyo into Da’at, a wasteland ravaged by an apocalypse. The protagonist becomes a Nahobino and is drawn into a war between angels and demons. Nintendo says the player’s choices dictate the fate of all existence, making this the clearest choice here for readers looking for a JRPG about determining the world’s governing future. Nintendo’s UK listing identifies the Nintendo Switch release and its two story paths.

Vengeance includes the original Canon of Creation, centered on an angel-and-demon conflict over the world’s fate, and the new Canon of Vengeance, centered on revenge by the fallen. These are presented as two complete story paths. The distinction matters: the game’s world-remaking stakes should not be reduced to a claim that every route reaches the same outcome.

Strange Journey Redux brings the crisis to a science-fiction expedition
In Shin Megami Tensei: Strange Journey Redux, a spatial distortion called the Schwarzwelt appears in Antarctica and threatens to engulf Earth. You play a United Nations soldier investigating the anomaly with a team of advanced specialists. Nintendo describes Redux as adding story content, endings, and a dungeon to the science-fiction RPG. Its official Nintendo listing identifies it as a Nintendo 3DS game and records the end of purchases from the Wii U and Nintendo 3DS eShops as 27 March 2023.
What to know before seeking it out
The 3DS eShop purchase cutoff means this is not a current digital eShop purchase option. The game is a fit if you want an expedition-driven apocalypse story and additional endings; current physical stock is not established here. Atlus’s official Japanese Deep Strange Journey site also describes new story content and an ending route associated with Alex. Because that site is in Japanese, it is not a basis for making more specific claims here about the route’s outcome.

Xenoblade Chronicles 3 is an adjacent thematic pick
Xenoblade Chronicles 3 is relevant if what appeals to you is challenging a world order that perpetuates conflict. Nintendo describes Aionios as a setting where the worlds of the first and second games link together, while noting that the three games’ stories stand alone. In a Nintendo developer interview, director and executive director of MONOLITHSOFT Tetsuya Takahashi explains that young people from two hostile nations join forces against an “unreasonable power” compelling them to fight every day: “Then, young people from these two nations band together against this ‘unreasonable power’ that forces them to fight on a daily basis.”
That supports a recommendation for a resistance story involving linked worlds, but it does not establish the specific claim that the ending saves the future by destroying the old world. Choose it for the struggle against the system, not on the strength of that unverified ending interpretation.
