Best overall for most adult builders: LEGO Game Boy 72046 is the easiest recommendation if you want an authentic Nintendo display on a small shelf and a relatively low entry price. Choose LEGO Nintendo Entertainment System 71374 for the most elaborate interactive display, LEGO Atari 2600 10306 for cartridge-era nostalgia and hidden-scene storytelling, or LEGO PAC-MAN Arcade 10323 for a visually dominant arcade centerpiece.
These are display models rather than playable video-game hardware. The Game Boy has no light, sound or digital functions; PAC-MAN is explicitly non-functional; and the NES television’s optional LEGO Mario interaction requires a separate LEGO Mario figure.

LEGO’s status labels and prices can change. Retired and sold-out sets should be treated as secondary-market purchases unless the official listing changes, and a resale price is not established here.
Which set should you buy?
Pick Game Boy 72046 for a compact Nintendo display
The Game Boy is the strongest choice for a narrow shelf, desk or bookcase. It recreates the handheld at near 1:1 scale without requiring the space of a television-and-console setup. Its interchangeable screens and Game Paks let you change the display instead of building a fixed scene.
#1 Best Overall
- 3 IN 1 TOY FOR KIDS – LEGO Creator 3 in 1 Retro Gaming Console (31380) building toy lets boys and girls ages 8 years old and up construct 3 gaming toys from 1 set of LEGO bricks
- BUILD & REBUILD – Kids can dream up endless stories as they create 1 of 3 brick-built gaming toys: a handheld gaming console, a desktop mini computer or an arcade game machine (models cannot be built simultaneously)
- FUN TOY GAMING FEATURES – Gaming console has 2 moving buttons and 2 moving joysticks plus a choice of 3 game cartridges to insert, computer includes a keyboard and monitor with a disk to place inside and a mouse, and the arcade game machine has iconic retro details
- GAMER ROOM DECOR – When playtime is over, the completed build doubles as fun bedroom or play room decor for display on a shelf or desk
- GIFT FOR BOYS & GIRLS – Makes a fun birthday gift or anytime treat for little builders who love gaming toys and imaginative pretend play
Pick NES 71374 for the most elaborate build
The NES combines a console, controller and cartridge with a period television and a moving screen mechanism. It is the most technically ambitious option in this group and makes the best conversation piece for a dedicated gaming room, provided you can find a retired set in good condition.
Pick Atari 2600 10306 for cartridge nostalgia
Atari’s three cartridges, mini game scenes and concealed gaming-room vignette tell a broader story than a single console replica. It suits builders who remember swapping cartridges and want small details to discover after the main build is complete.
Pick PAC-MAN Arcade 10323 for an arcade-room centerpiece
PAC-MAN has the strongest vertical arcade presence. The coin-slot light, moving maze and rotating character figures create visual activity even though the cabinet is not an operating game machine.
LEGO Game Boy 72046: best compact current option
This 18+ set is a near 1:1 brick-built replica of Nintendo’s original Game Boy. The front recreates the +Control Pad, A and B buttons, SELECT and START controls, contrast and volume dials, and the Game Pak slot. Those details make it recognizable even when viewed from across a room.
The set contains 421 pieces and includes interchangeable brick-built Game Paks and lenticular screens. You can display Super Mario Land, The Legend of Zelda: Link’s Awakening, or a Nintendo start screen. Swapping those elements changes the subject without rebuilding the whole model, which is useful when the set shares space with other collectibles.
At over 5.5 inches (14 cm) high, 3.5 inches (9 cm) wide and 1 inch (3 cm) deep, it is substantially shallower than the console-and-TV sets. The compact footprint is its practical advantage, not merely a smaller scale.

Do not buy it expecting an electronic replica. LEGO specifies no light, sound or digital play functions. The screen effects are brick-built and lenticular, so the model is intended for viewing and handling rather than gameplay.
The retrieved US LEGO page lists $59.99 and shows the product on backorder, with a stated ship date of October 29, 2026. That date is a listing promise rather than a guarantee that every region will receive stock at the same time, so check the page serving your country before ordering.
LEGO NES 71374: best interactive display
The NES set recreates the original console, controller, Game Pak cartridge and a retro-styled 1980s television as one connected display. The console includes a locking Game Pak slot and a controller with a connecting cable, details that make it feel like a complete system rather than a decorative box.
Its signature feature is the television. Turning a handle moves an 8-bit Mario scene across the screen, creating a physical scrolling effect without electronics. An action brick can also be scanned by a separate interactive LEGO Mario figure to trigger reactions; that figure is not included, so the scanning feature should be considered an optional add-on rather than part of the base experience.
The build has 2,646 pieces. LEGO lists the television at over 8 inches high, 9 inches wide and 6 inches deep, with the full model dimensions listed as 10 × 10 × 7 inches. Plan for clearance around the handle and for the controller cable to remain visible if you want the interactive elements accessible.

Because retirement means normal LEGO production has ended, condition, completeness and packaging can vary widely in resale listings. - Photography gifts – This 3 in 1 toy provides a fun build-and-play experience for boys and girls ages 8+ and can be given as an everyday gift or an unexpected reward
LEGO Atari 2600 10306: best cartridge-era storytelling
This 18+ Icons set is based on the four-switch Atari 2600 revision that debuted in 1980. Its focus is the physical culture of cartridge gaming: a console, joystick, cartridge holder and three recognizable game cartridges rather than a single fixed screen.
The cartridges represent Asteroids, Adventure and Centipede. Each can be paired with a small game-scene build, giving the display three different visual stories. A movable joystick adds a hands-on detail, while the hidden 1980s gaming-room vignette rewards builders who inspect the console instead of stopping at the front-facing view.
The set contains 2,532 pieces and measures over 3 inches high, 13 inches wide and 8.5 inches deep. Its width makes it a better fit for a media console or broad shelf than for a narrow bookcase. Leave room to remove and display the cartridges if you want the interchangeable aspect to be visible.
LEGO’s July 19, 2022 newsroom announcement gave a launch date of August 1, 2022 and a $/€239.99 recommended retail price. The current US product page marks it retired. Those launch figures are historical RRP, not a claim about today’s secondary-market value.
LEGO designer Chris McVeigh described the original Atari 2600 as one of his most memorable childhood gifts and recalled spending hours playing arcade games at home. That context explains why the set emphasizes cartridges, a joystick and a room scene: the nostalgia is about the ritual of home gaming as much as the console’s shape.
LEGO PAC-MAN Arcade 10323: best arcade centerpiece
PAC-MAN 10323 is modeled on a real 1980s arcade cabinet and is designed as a display object, not a playable cabinet. Its four-way joystick is movable, and a light brick illuminates the coin slot. Turning a handle activates a mechanical maze simulation, giving the front of the cabinet motion without turning it into an electronic game.

- Build a 1980s cabinet arcade game – Recreate the iconic 1980s maze-chase video game in LEGO bricks with this LEGO Icons PAC-MAN Arcade (10323) building set
- What’s in the box? – Includes all you need to build the PAC-MAN Arcade cabinet and a display case with rotatable PAC-MAN, BLINKY and CLYDE figures, plus a 1980s arcade scene with a gaming minifigure
- Packed with retro features – The cabinet has a 4-way joystick, illuminating coin slot, adjustable game score display and a mechanical maze that simulates the classic chase between the game characters
- Nostalgic gift idea – Adult fans of retro video games will love this set. Take time out for yourself or treat a loved one to mark any special anniversary or occasion
- Dimensions – The PAC-MAN Arcade cabinet (non-functional gaming system) measures over 12.5 in. (32 cm) high, 10 in. (25 cm) wide and 7 in. (17 cm) deep
The display case includes rotatable PAC-MAN, BLINKY and CLYDE figures. A separate 1980s arcade scene with a gaming minifigure and display case extends the story beyond the cabinet itself. An openable back panel provides another viewpoint and makes the set more interesting on a shelf where visitors can see it from multiple sides.
The retrieved US listing shows a $269.99 price and sold-out status. Since no independent resale check is established here, treat marketplace availability and pricing as variable. If you buy second hand, verify the light-brick components, handle mechanism, character figures and back-panel parts rather than assuming a sealed-looking cabinet is complete.
The key trade-off is scale and presence versus function. PAC-MAN can dominate a display wall, but it cannot run the original game, accept a cartridge or produce authentic arcade sound.
How the four sets differ in real use
Display footprint
Game Boy is the only genuinely compact option. NES needs depth and clearance for its television mechanism, Atari spreads horizontally across a shelf, and PAC-MAN is best treated as a dedicated centerpiece. Measure the usable shelf area, not just the furniture’s advertised width, and account for dusting access and any moving handles.
Hands-on interaction
All four sets offer something to handle, but the interaction is mechanical or positional. Game Boy’s changeable screens and cartridges are display swaps. NES has the most elaborate moving feature through its handle-operated screen and optional LEGO Mario scanning. Atari’s joystick and cartridges support rearrangement, while PAC-MAN combines a light, rotating figures and a hand-turned maze.

Piece count is a useful indicator of project scale, but it does not predict difficulty by itself. NES and Atari have substantially more parts than Game Boy and include several subassemblies. PAC-MAN’s cabinet, mechanism and separate scene divide the project into distinct visual sections. Set aside a clean work surface, sort small elements before each stage and keep the instruction booklet with unused spare parts until completion.

Authenticity versus storytelling
Game Boy and NES prioritize recognizable Nintendo hardware controls and proportions. Atari adds the history of cartridges and a hidden room. PAC-MAN presents the cabinet as an object from an arcade environment. Choose the set whose story matches the memories you want the display to evoke, not just the logo that is easiest to recognize.
Independent reader supportYour contribution helps us test, update, and keep practical guides available for everyone.Availability and buying checks
Availability is unusually important with this group. The Game Boy listing is current but on backorder, while NES and Atari are marked retired and PAC-MAN was shown as sold out. Check the official LEGO page immediately before purchase because a status label can change between an article’s publication and your order.
For a current LEGO order
- Open the LEGO product page for the exact set number, not a similarly named accessory or building instruction.
- Confirm the regional currency, stock label and any stated dispatch date.
- Check the age marking, piece count and dimensions against the listing before choosing a shelf or gift.
- Save the order confirmation and keep the box until you have audited the completed model for missing elements.
For a retired or sold-out set
- Ask the seller whether the set is complete and whether the original instructions and minifigures are included.
- Request clear photographs of the controller cable, cartridge pieces, light bricks, moving handles and hidden-scene parts relevant to that model.
- Compare the seller’s inventory with the official parts and instructions before treating a lower price as a bargain.
- Prefer a returnable transaction when the seller cannot demonstrate that mechanical sections operate as designed.
Do not assume the historical RRP is the fair resale price. Retired status can raise prices, but packaging condition, missing parts and regional supply can push values in either direction.

Choose a stable, low-sun location
Use a level shelf away from direct sunlight, heaters and damp rooms. Strong light can fade printed or colored elements over time, while heat and humidity make dust and cleaning more difficult. A shallow cabinet works well for Game Boy; deeper shelving is more practical for NES and Atari.
Preserve moving features
Operate handles, hinges and the NES screen gently. Do not force a mechanism when a brick is misaligned. Remove the obstructing section, rebuild it from the instructions and test the movement before reassembling the surrounding shell. For PAC-MAN, turn the maze handle slowly and avoid pushing the rotating figures sideways.
Dust without stressing the model
A soft makeup brush or hand blower can remove loose dust from controls, grilles and minifigure scenes. Avoid compressed air held close to the model, liquid cleaners and abrasive cloths. If you dismantle a section for cleaning, place parts in labeled containers so cartridge and mechanism components do not get mixed.
Plan for visitors and children
These are adult-oriented display builds with small parts and moving sections. Put them high enough that casual handling will not pull a controller cable, remove a Game Pak or disturb a hidden vignette. Explain which features are safe to turn and which are purely decorative.

A simple decision framework
- Limited shelf depth or a lower budget: Game Boy 72046.
- Largest Nintendo display and mechanical screen: NES 71374, if you can source a complete retired set.
- Memories of cartridge swapping and early home consoles: Atari 2600 10306.
- A room’s visual focal point and arcade atmosphere: PAC-MAN Arcade 10323.
- Need a genuinely playable game: none of these sets; they are display models, with the specific limitations described above.
For most buyers starting today, Game Boy is the least complicated purchase because it is the only option in this comparison shown as an active LEGO product, even though the listing currently indicates backorder. Collectors with more space and access to a verified complete retired set will find greater mechanical and storytelling depth in NES, Atari or PAC-MAN.
