The best alternative depends on the hand support and controls you need, not the highest DPI number. For a light, simple symmetrical shell, choose the Logitech G PRO X SUPERLIGHT 2. For a right-handed ergonomic mouse with a thumb rest and extensive controls, choose the Logitech G502 X LIGHTSPEED. The SteelSeries Aerox 5 Wireless is the lighter mixed-genre option with both receiver and Bluetooth wireless, while the Logitech PRO 2 LIGHTSPEED is the safest choice for left-handed users who need programmable buttons on either side.

The specifications and availability below come from Logitech’s official figures and 2026 comparisons from RTINGS and PC Gamer. Retail prices, stock and regional configurations change, so confirm the current listing and return policy before buying.

Why shape matters more than headline DPI

A mouse can advertise an extreme sensor range and still feel wrong if your fingers cannot rest naturally on its shell. Your hand orientation, grip, and the amount of support under the palm determine how much force you use to move and lift the mouse. DPI changes cursor sensitivity; it does not change the angle of the hump, the width of the rear shell, or where your thumb lands.

Symmetrical shells

A symmetrical mouse has a centerline shape that does not strongly favor one hand. That usually gives claw and fingertip users more freedom to rotate or reposition the mouse during fast aim. It can also accommodate a wider range of hand sizes because the shell does not force your palm into one fixed contour. The trade-off is less molded support: a symmetrical design may feel less relaxing for a full-palm grip.

Right-handed ergonomic shells

An ergonomic right-handed shell angles the body and usually creates a ledge or rest for the thumb. This can reduce the need to squeeze the sides when your palm is fully supported. The extra contour and controls add material, so these designs are commonly heavier and can feel slower during repeated flicks.

Grip and game type

  • Claw or fingertip FPS: prioritize low weight, unobstructed sides and a shell that lets you make short, rapid corrections.
  • Palm-oriented play: look for a pronounced rear hump, right-handed contour and thumb rest.
  • MMO, strategy and productivity: programmable buttons and a stable thumb platform can save more time than a lighter shell.
  • Mixed use: balance weight against comfort and connectivity instead of choosing solely by sensor range.

No universal study in the cited material proves that one shape prevents injury or guarantees comfort. Fit remains personal, and a return window is more useful than a promise based only on specifications.

Logitech G PRO X SUPERLIGHT 2: the light symmetrical FPS alternative

The G PRO X SUPERLIGHT 2 is the clearest choice when your priority is a low-inertia mouse for competitive shooters. Its symmetrical shell avoids the pronounced right-hand contour found on ergonomic models, and RTINGS describes it as more accommodating to varied hand sizes and grip styles than many strongly sculpted alternatives.

That shape works particularly well for claw and fingertip grips. You can shift your fingers forward for precise micro-adjustments or pull the mouse back into a claw without fighting a molded thumb shelf. The 60 g body also reduces the effort needed to start, stop and redirect a swipe. These advantages matter more to an FPS player than having an unusually high maximum DPI; most players will set sensitivity far below the sensor’s upper limit.

The compromise is a simpler control layout. If you need a row of commands for an MMO rotation, spreadsheet shortcuts or editing macros, a G502-style design gives you more physical inputs. The symmetrical shell is also not automatically comfortable for every palm grip, so check the return conditions and compare the shell length and hump position with your hand before committing.

Logitech G502 X LIGHTSPEED: ergonomic support and maximum controls

The G502 X LIGHTSPEED is the feature-rich alternative for users who want their palm and thumb to stay supported. RTINGS describes a right-handed ergonomic shape with a thumb rest and many programmable buttons. That combination suits palm-oriented users, MMO players and anyone who wants to move commands away from the keyboard.

The thumb rest gives your hand a defined landing area, which can make long sessions feel more stable than gripping a narrow symmetrical shell. The additional buttons are useful when a game exposes many abilities or when you assign application shortcuts. A substantial body can also feel planted for slower strategy games and general desktop work.

That support has a cost in agility. RTINGS warns that the mouse is less nimble for fast flicks than dedicated lightweight FPS designs. If your main test is rapid target switching, compare it against a lighter shell on the same sensitivity rather than assuming extra controls are free performance.

Logitech lists 102 g, a 100–25,600 DPI range and 140 hours of constant-motion battery life. The battery figure is a vendor measurement with stated conditions; actual time varies with use and settings.

SteelSeries Aerox 5 Wireless: a lighter, flexible-connectivity compromise

The Aerox 5 Wireless targets players who want a right-handed shape and extra controls without accepting the mass of a traditional feature-heavy mouse. RTINGS records a default weight of 73.9 g and support for both a USB receiver and Bluetooth. The two wireless paths are useful when you move between a gaming computer and a laptop or want Bluetooth available as a backup connection.

Logitech G305 Lightspeed Wireless Gaming Mouse - White | 12,000 DPI, Lightweight, 6 Programmable Buttons, 250h Battery, On-Board Memory, Compatible with PC and Mac
  • Next-gen 12,000 DPI HERO optical sensor delivers unrivaled gaming performance, accuracy and power efficiency
  • Advanced LIGHTSPEED wireless gaming mouse for super-fast 1 ms response time and faster than wired performance
  • Ultra-long battery life gives you up to 250 hours of continuous gaming on a single AA battery
  • Lightweight mechanical design and classic shape for maximum maneuverability, durability and comfort
  • Compact, portable design with convenient built-in storage for included USB wireless receiver

In RTINGS’ direct comparison, the Aerox 5 Wireless is substantially lighter than the 120.7 g wired Logitech G502 HERO. The G502 comparison model retains a thumb rest, three extra buttons, tilt inputs and a free-scroll mode, so the weight reduction is accompanied by fewer comfort and control features. That is the central decision: choose the Aerox 5 when movement and connectivity matter more than a fully supported thumb platform and every possible input.

Software compatibility needs special attention. RTINGS records the SteelSeries software as Windows-only in this comparison. If you plan to configure the mouse on macOS or another operating system, verify current support before buying; do not assume that Bluetooth availability means the configuration application is available everywhere.

Logitech PRO 2 LIGHTSPEED: the true ambidextrous choice

The PRO 2 LIGHTSPEED is designed for left- and right-handed players who need the same physical layout in either hand. Logitech describes it as truly ambidextrous and places programmable buttons on both sides. You can therefore install the side buttons where your active hand can reach them instead of accepting a right-handed shell with inaccessible controls.

This is the strongest option when hand orientation is non-negotiable. It also suits households where people switch hands or users who alternate hands to manage fatigue, although the cited material does not establish a medical benefit. The absence of a sculpted thumb rest is intentional: a symmetrical shell keeps the controls usable from either side.

Logitech lists up to 95 hours without lighting and USB-C fast charging. Because the battery statement excludes lighting, treat it as a best-case configuration rather than a universal runtime. Confirm the included receiver, charging cable and regional contents on the retailer page.

How to choose among the four

  1. Set your hand orientation. If you are left-handed or require side buttons on both sides, start with the PRO 2 LIGHTSPEED. If you want palm support and a thumb rest, limit the search to right-handed ergonomic models.
  2. Identify your dominant grip. Claw and fingertip users should begin with the symmetrical Superlight 2 or the lighter Aerox 5. Palm users should test the G502 X LIGHTSPEED’s contour first.
  3. Choose a weight ceiling. Decide the maximum mass you are willing to move before comparing DPI. The cited options span 60 g for the Superlight 2, 73.9 g for the Aerox 5 Wireless and 102 g for the G502 X LIGHTSPEED.
  4. Count the commands you actually use. Extra buttons are valuable only when your games or applications have commands to assign. If you rarely use side controls, do not accept extra weight solely for a larger specification list.
  5. Decide whether Bluetooth is required. The Aerox 5 Wireless explicitly supports Bluetooth as well as a USB receiver. The cited figures for the Logitech competitive models emphasize wireless performance and, for the PRO 2, USB-C charging, but do not specify a second Bluetooth mode.
  6. Check software and operating-system support. The Aerox 5 comparison identifies Windows-only software. Compatibility details for the Logitech models are not stated in the cited figures, so check the current support page for your operating system.
  7. Verify the regional listing. Prices, stock, included accessories and even available configurations can change by country. Confirm the exact model name, return period and warranty before opening the package.

Fit checks before you keep the mouse

Measure your hand and compare contact points

Measure from the wrist crease to the tip of your middle finger, then compare that length with the manufacturer’s current dimensions. The more important test is where your palm meets the rear hump and whether your thumb rests without stretching. A mouse that is technically the right length can still feel wrong if the hump peaks too far forward.

Test each grip separately

  • For palm grip, check whether your palm remains supported while your index and middle fingers reach the main buttons without flattening.
  • For claw grip, make sure the rear shell does not force your knuckles too high and that the side buttons remain reachable.
  • For fingertip grip, check that you can lift and reposition the mouse without the sides rubbing your ring finger.

Evaluate movement, not just static comfort

Play a short aim routine, then perform ordinary desktop tasks. A heavy ergonomic shell may feel excellent while browsing but tiring during repeated flicks; a light symmetrical shell may excel in an FPS and feel unsupported during long document work. Use the same sensitivity and desk surface when comparing alternatives.

Wireless, charging and software decisions

Wireless mode affects where you can use the mouse and how you recover from interference or an empty battery. A USB receiver is normally the performance-oriented path for gaming, while Bluetooth is convenient for devices that lack a spare receiver port. The Aerox 5 Wireless is the only option in this shortlist whose cited specifications explicitly include both modes.

Battery figures are not directly comparable unless their test conditions match. Logitech’s Superlight 2 and G502 X LIGHTSPEED figures are measured with constant motion, while the PRO 2 LIGHTSPEED figure is stated without lighting. Disable lighting only if you are comfortable doing so, and keep the charging cable accessible even when the advertised runtime is long.

Configuration software determines whether you can remap buttons, save profiles and adjust sensitivity. Because the cited comparison records Windows-only software for the Aerox 5, operating-system support should be a purchase check rather than an assumption. The supplied figures do not establish equivalent compatibility details for the Logitech models.

Installation and first-day setup

  1. Charge or connect the mouse. Use the supplied cable or receiver procedure for your model. For the PRO 2 LIGHTSPEED, Logitech specifies USB-C fast charging.
  2. Place the receiver where it has a clear path. Avoid hiding a receiver behind a metal desktop computer or hub if you notice dropouts. Use a short extension, if supplied, to bring it nearer to the mouse pad.
  3. Install the supported configuration software. Confirm that your operating system is supported before relying on remapping or profiles; RTINGS’ Aerox 5 comparison specifically identifies Windows-only software.
  4. Set a moderate starting sensitivity. Begin with a familiar DPI and adjust in small steps. Do not use the maximum sensor range merely because it is available.
  5. Assign only useful controls. Put high-frequency commands on reachable side buttons, and leave an unassigned button rather than creating accidental activations.
  6. Test wired and wireless behavior. Check charging, sleep/wake response, receiver stability and Bluetooth switching if your model offers it.
  7. Use the return period deliberately. Test every grip and your longest normal session before the retailer’s return window closes.

Common buying mistakes and fixes

Choosing by DPI alone

A larger DPI number does not make a mouse more comfortable or automatically more accurate. Compare shell shape, weight and sensor behavior at the sensitivity you actually use.

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.

Assuming more buttons are always better

Buttons help only when their placement is reachable and your software can assign them. If you repeatedly hit a side button by mistake, move the command or choose a simpler shell.

Ignoring hand orientation

A right-handed ergonomic mouse cannot become left-handed through software. Left-handed users should start with the truly ambidextrous PRO 2 LIGHTSPEED or another shell explicitly designed for both hands.

Comparing battery numbers without conditions

Constant-motion testing, lighting settings and polling behavior change runtime. Keep each manufacturer’s qualification attached to its figure and treat real use as variable.

Overlooking regional software and stock

Retail listings can show different bundles or availability by country. Check the exact model, operating-system support, warranty and return policy at checkout, especially when a comparison cites a particular date.

Which alternative should you buy?

Buy the Logitech G PRO X SUPERLIGHT 2 if competitive FPS movement and a light symmetrical shell are your first priorities. Choose the Logitech G502 X LIGHTSPEED when palm support, a thumb rest and many programmable controls matter more than flick speed. Pick the SteelSeries Aerox 5 Wireless when you want a lighter right-handed mouse with both receiver and Bluetooth connectivity and can accept fewer G502-style controls. Choose the Logitech PRO 2 LIGHTSPEED when left-handed use or true ambidextrous side-button placement is essential.

Those are different solutions rather than a single universal winner. Match orientation first, then grip and game, then weight and connectivity; verify current regional details before ordering.
