If you want a Rainbow Six game to play when a live-service title closes, Rainbow Six Extraction is the clearest alternative for co-op PvE or solo play. If you want competitive tactical PvP, Rainbow Six Siege X is the relevant option—but it is an update to Siege, not an offline successor. Ubisoft’s latest roadmap reviewed here, updated September 23, 2026, describes Siege as a live game; it does not establish that Siege has shut down or will do so.
Which Rainbow Six game fits what you want to play?
| Game or option | Best fit | What is established | Important caveat |
|---|---|---|---|
| Rainbow Six Extraction | Solo play or co-op against AI enemies | Tactical PvE incursions against an alien threat; playable solo or in squads of up to three. | Solo play does not mean offline play. The available evidence does not establish that the game will function if its online services end. |
| Rainbow Six Siege X | Competitive tactical PvP and current Siege modes | Siege’s updated form, with PvP and additional modes. Siege X launched June 10, 2025 as a free update for existing owners. | It is part of the live Siege service, not a post-shutdown fallback. Free Access excludes some modes and content. |
| Older Rainbow Six releases | Players specifically seeking a legacy campaign or older tactical format | Different releases may offer different campaigns and formats. | Current availability, platform compatibility, and offline behavior have not been established for specific older editions. Check the exact release before relying on it. |
Why Extraction is the strongest alternative for a different experience
Extraction changes the central loop from competing against another team to coordinating against AI-controlled threats. Ubisoft describes tactical co-op missions against an alien threat, with solo play or squads of up to three. That makes it the most clearly supported Rainbow Six choice for someone who wants cooperation rather than Siege’s competitive PvP.
Platforms and published content
Ubisoft lists Extraction for PC, PlayStation 4 and 5, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X|S. Its product information lists 20 operators and 12 maps; those are Ubisoft’s published counts, not an independent measure of how much variety or replay value the game offers. Check the current store listing and service status for your platform and region before purchasing.

Solo does not mean offline
Ubisoft’s description establishes that you can play solo, but that is not evidence that the game works without a network connection or will remain accessible if online services end. If your main concern is preserving access after a shutdown, do not treat Extraction as a guaranteed solution: the official information reviewed here does not establish post-shutdown access.

What Siege X offers—and what it does not
If you still want Siege’s competitive tactical format, Siege X is the current version to consider. Ubisoft says it launched on June 10, 2025 as a free update for existing owners, who retained their Siege content and progression. Ubisoft’s free-access offering includes Quick Match, Unranked, and Dual Front. Ranked, Siege Cup, additional operators, and cosmetics require payment to unlock.
Siege X is not an offline replacement for a closed live-service game. It remains part of Siege, which Ubisoft’s roadmap described as live in the version last updated September 23, 2026. Ubisoft’s service-status page showed no issues for PC, PS4, PS5, Xbox Series X|S, and Xbox One on October 5, 2026; that is a dated status snapshot, not a guarantee of future uptime. Ubisoft’s roadmap says, “Rainbow Six® Siege is a live game, and target dates are subject to change.”

What to know about older Rainbow Six games
Legacy releases may be worth investigating if you specifically want a campaign-oriented or older tactical experience. But a past release is not automatically a dependable fallback after a service closure: availability can vary by platform, region, and edition, and the ability to play offline must be verified for the particular game. The evidence available here does not confirm current availability, compatibility, or offline operation for titles such as Rainbow Six Vegas or Vegas 2.
Before choosing one, check the exact edition’s current storefront listing and platform requirements, then look for official documentation about network or account requirements. Do not assume that owning a copy guarantees access to every feature—or that a campaign will launch without online services.
Rank #3
- Tom Clancy's Rainbow Six Siege X is the undisputed reference in tactical team shooters, where elite strategy and execution triumph.
- Siege X marks the biggest evolution in its history, and deepens the game’s tactical core.
How to choose if your concern is a shutdown
- Decide which part of Rainbow Six you want. Choose Extraction for solo or cooperative PvE; choose Siege X only if you want the live Siege PvP experience and modes.
- Check service dependence, not just the word “solo.” Solo play can still rely on online services. The official information cited here does not establish offline or post-shutdown operation for Extraction.
- Verify platform and region. Confirm the exact game, edition, and platform in the current storefront, and check Ubisoft’s service-status information before buying.
- For a legacy title, verify the specific release. Confirm that it is currently sold or otherwise accessible on your platform and that the mode you want works under the game’s present account and network requirements.
Is Siege actually closed?
No closure is established by the official information reviewed here. Ubisoft’s roadmap, last updated September 23, 2026, calls Siege a live game and lists Year 11 content, with Year 11 Season 3, Operation Split Fire, as the latest release shown. The status page reported no issues across the listed platforms on October 5, 2026. These dated statements describe the service at those points in time; they cannot guarantee that it will remain available indefinitely.
