Short answer: buy the Logitech G29 if you want a complete, straightforward entry-level setup; choose the Thrustmaster T300RS GT Edition for smoother belt-driven steering; choose the MOZA R5 if you specifically want direct-drive force feedback and a PC upgrade path. None can be called officially compatible with JDM: Ph4ntom Driver yet. The Steam listing still gives the PC game a release date of “To be announced,” and no final developer documentation confirms wheel models, force-feedback behavior, rotation range, clutch input, or handbrake support.
These are therefore recommendations for a broader PC racing library, not guarantees for one unreleased title. Compatibility may change before launch, so check the developer’s final device list and in-game control options before purchasing specifically for Ph4ntom Driver.
What is confirmed about Ph4ntom Driver support?
The official Steam description calls JDM: Phantom Driver “a standalone action-oriented, arcade racing game with a brawling gameplay focus, inspired by the JDM street culture and Japanese folklore.” It remains unreleased, with the launch date listed as “To be announced.” That matters because wheel support is often finalized close to release, and an arcade-oriented driving model may expose fewer simulator controls than a dedicated racing simulator.

The official device page for the related game JDM: Japanese Drift Master lists Logitech, Thrustmaster, PXN, MOZA, SIMAGIC, and FANATEC wheel families for PC. It also warns that devices outside that list are not guaranteed. This is useful ecosystem context, but it is not a certification for Ph4ntom Driver.

The G29’s gear-driven design is familiar, inexpensive to operate and supported by a large installed base of PC games. A 900-degree range gives you enough adjustment for road-car and drift titles while still allowing a quick steering response in arcade games. The three-pedal layout also leaves you prepared for games that use a clutch, even though Ph4ntom Driver’s clutch behavior has not been documented.
Software and pedal troubleshooting
Logitech support advises PC users to install Logitech Gaming Software version 8.70 or later. Connect the wheel, install the software, and verify that the wheel and pedal axes move in the utility before opening a game. If the pedals do not respond in a title, map throttle, brake and clutch individually in that game’s controls rather than assuming the hardware is defective.

Trade-offs
Helical gears provide force feedback but do not create the continuous, belt-driven motion of the T300RS GT Edition or the motor-at-the-shaft response of the MOZA R5. The included pedal set is complete, though it offers less expansion potential than a modular direct-drive ecosystem. Why choose it over the G29
The dual-belt mechanism is the important distinction. Belts generally deliver a smoother steering transition than a gear train, which can make small corrections and counter-steering feel less notchy. The brushless motor and magnetic sensing also make the T300RS GT Edition a more substantial platform for players who expect to use the wheel across several racing games.
Pedals and expansion
The T3PA-GT set supplies three pedals and uses metal pedal heads, giving the bundle a fuller GT-oriented feel than a basic two-pedal starter set. MOZA R5: direct drive for PC-focused upgraders
What the R5 platform provides
MOZA documents the R5 bundle as a Windows 10/11 PC-only system. It uses direct drive and provides NexGen 4.0 force-feedback profiles with GT, Formula, Drift and Rally modes. Direct drive places the motor at the wheel shaft, so there is no gear or belt transmission between the motor and the rim. That architecture can reveal finer changes in steering resistance and surface feedback, provided the game outputs a compatible force-feedback signal.
Pedal expansion
The bundle includes SR-P Lite pedals. MOZA lists an optional clutch and brake-performance kit, giving you a documented path to add or improve pedal functions later. The base package therefore suits a buyer who expects to build a more advanced PC setup instead of treating the first wheel as a fixed, all-in-one purchase.
Software profiles and game fit
The GT, Formula, Drift and Rally profiles are useful for configuring the wheel around different driving styles in supported software. Ph4ntom Driver’s arcade and brawling focus may not use every simulator-oriented adjustment, however. - Does the title recognize the wheel as a steering device without keyboard emulation?
- Is force feedback active, and can its strength or damping be adjusted?
- What steering rotation range does the game use?
- Are throttle, brake and clutch axes exposed separately?
- Is a handbrake input supported?
- Can you save a wheel-specific control profile?
These checks are more important than the wheel’s theoretical specification. An expensive direct-drive base cannot compensate for a game that accepts only a generic controller profile.
Pre-launch setup and first-drive procedure
You can prepare the hardware before the game is released, but the final menu names and presets remain unconfirmed. Use this procedure once you have a supported wheel utility installed.
- Install the current driver or control utility. For a G29 on PC, Logitech support specifies Logitech Gaming Software 8.70 or later. Use the current software supplied for the T300RS GT Edition or R5 rather than relying on an old installer.
- Connect the hardware directly. Plug the wheel and pedals into the PC as the device design requires, avoiding unnecessary hubs while you establish a baseline connection. Keep the wheel’s power supply connected where the model requires external power.
- Check Windows and Steam detection. Open the operating-system game-controller test and confirm that steering, throttle and brake axes move through their full range. Verify the same device is visible to Steam before starting the game.
- Look for a wheel preset at first launch. The exact labels are not confirmed, so scan the controls or input menu for a wheel, steering-wheel or custom-device option rather than assuming a controller preset is equivalent.
- Bind each axis separately. Assign steering, throttle and brake one at a time. Add clutch only if the game presents a clutch binding. Move one pedal while recording each assignment to avoid swapping throttle and brake.
- Check inversion and range. If pressing the brake produces acceleration, invert the affected axis. If steering reaches full lock too quickly or not at all, review the game’s range setting and the wheel utility’s rotation setting.
- Save a dedicated profile. Name the profile for the wheel and the game so you can restore it after changing controllers. Keep a second profile with neutral axis settings for troubleshooting.
- Test a short drive. Confirm steering, throttle, brake, centering and any available vibration or force feedback before attempting a long session. If the game drives correctly but produces no feedback, check whether the launch documentation lists force feedback as supported before changing hardware settings.
- Remap unresponsive G29 pedals in-game. Logitech’s support guidance specifically recommends mapping the pedals in the game controls if they do not respond after the software is installed.
This process separates a connection problem from an unsupported game feature. If Windows cannot see an axis, fix the driver, cable or hardware connection first. If Windows sees every axis but Ph4ntom Driver does not, the remaining issue is likely the game’s input implementation or its launch configuration.
