Gran Turismo 7 is the broadest all-round racing reference on PS5, but it is not the best fit for every kind of driver. Choose Assetto Corsa Competizione for a narrower, more technical GT3 circuit simulation; F1 25 for licensed Formula 1 and a season-focused career; EA Sports WRC for point-to-point rally stages; or The Crew Motorfest for free-roaming Hawaiian driving and a lighter arcade feel.
The right alternative depends on what you want to preserve from GT7 and what you want to change: realistic vehicle behavior, a particular racing discipline, a structured solo campaign, online competition, wheel support, or the freedom to leave the circuit.

Quick answer: which PS5 racer should you choose?
Use this table to narrow the choice before reading the detailed breakdown. The realism descriptions are relative to each game’s design, not a laboratory ranking.
| Game | Main discipline | Driving character | Solo structure | Online emphasis | Controller or wheel | Environment |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|

What changes when you move away from GT7?
GT7 combines a large garage, collectible-car progression and circuit racing into one broad package. That breadth is its strength, but it also means that a specialist game can feel better when you already know the exact discipline you want.
#1 Best Overall
- With the return of classic cars, iconic tracks, and fan-favourite modes like GT Simulation and Sport Mode - Gran Turismo 7 is the complete Real Driving Simulator, 25 years in the making.
- Find your line. Whether you're a racer, collector, tuner, designer, photographer or arcade fan - immerse yourself in the facets of automotive culture that matter most to you.
- Connect and compete. Join an international community of drivers to share race strategies, tuning tips, livery designs and photos, before taking to the track to go head-to-head.
Assetto Corsa Competizione removes much of the general-purpose variety and concentrates on GT3 competition. F1 25 replaces mixed-car racing with the rules, cars and presentation of Formula 1. EA Sports WRC changes the rhythm entirely: instead of chasing another car around a circuit, you drive alone against the clock while managing surfaces, pace notes and mistakes. The Crew Motorfest goes in the opposite direction, making the map itself part of the experience and favoring variety over strict simulation.
These are not four versions of the same game. The most useful question is whether you want a different car class, a different kind of event, or a different relationship with the road.
Assetto Corsa Competizione: the closest technical circuit alternative
Why GT7 players choose it
Choose Assetto Corsa Competizione when the part of GT7 you value most is learning a circuit, refining a setup and feeling small changes in a car’s behavior. It concentrates on GT3 racing rather than trying to represent every category of road and race car. That narrower scope is deliberate: the game is built around consistent circuit practice and detailed vehicle dynamics.
Its simulation models tire grip, aerodynamics, suspension, electronic systems and damage. Those systems interact, so a mistake is not merely a lost position. Overdriving a corner can affect grip, a poor line can compromise the next section, and contact can have consequences that persist through a race. The result is a demanding loop of preparation, qualifying, racing and review.
Driving model and realism
ACC is the strongest choice here for players who want a technical GT3 simulator. Tire behavior and aerodynamic load are central to how the car turns and brakes. Suspension response influences stability over curbs and surface changes, while electronic aids require judgment rather than simply being switched on or off without thought. Damage gives contact more weight than it has in a forgiving arcade racer.
That depth also creates a steeper learning curve than GT7’s broader progression. A controller can be used, but smooth steering, throttle control and braking are harder to reproduce with short analog-stick movements. A wheel with pedals makes it easier to apply repeatable inputs and to understand what the car is doing.
Solo and online structure
The solo experience is best understood as focused circuit development. You return to the same tracks, learn braking references, tune the car and build consistency rather than constantly collecting unrelated vehicles. If you enjoy repeating a session until every lap is controlled, this is a feature. If you want a large garage and frequent changes of scenery, GT7 remains the broader choice.
Do these 3 things before closing this tab:
1Clear out junk files and repair common Windows errors2Fix the driver behind crashes, sound loss and screen glitches3Repair Windows errors before they cause bigger problemsOnline play naturally favors drivers who enjoy organized circuit racing. A clean lap, predictable racecraft and familiarity with a small set of tracks matter more than having the largest vehicle collection. Before buying, check the current regional edition and online-service requirements for your account, because those details can change.

Who should skip it?
ACC is a poor fit if you mainly want open roads, casual drifting or a quick race with minimal preparation. Its value comes from concentration and repetition. Players who want a story-led campaign, licensed single-seater teams or varied road-trip activities should choose one of the other options instead.
F1 25: the licensed Formula 1 choice
Why it is different from GT7
F1 25 is the current licensed Formula 1 alternative for PS5. Every race is built around single-seater competition and the presentation of a specific championship season, rather than a mixed garage of road and race cars. That makes it the obvious choice when your interest is Formula 1 rather than general circuit driving.
PlayStation’s current PS5 racing recommendations identify F1 25 and highlight its revamped My Team mode and the third chapter of Braking Point. Those two modes serve different tastes: My Team is the management-and-racing path for building a team over a season, while Braking Point is the more structured, character-driven option.
Driving model and assists
F1 cars are light, powerful single-seaters with narrow operating windows, so the driving challenge differs from GT3 racing. Braking points arrive quickly, kerbs can unsettle the car and small errors are expensive at high speed. The game can be configured with assists for a gentler introduction, then made more demanding as your confidence grows.
A DualSense controller is a practical way to play because the game is designed around accessible inputs and adjustable assists. A wheel adds finer control over steering, throttle and braking, especially when you reduce assists or drive longer races, but it is not a prerequisite for enjoying the career modes.
Career, online play and annual editions
My Team gives F1 25 a different solo rhythm from GT7: you are not simply selecting a car for each event, but following a season-focused team path. Braking Point provides a separate narrative route. Online play suits people who want competitive single-seater races and the discipline of following a racing line at speed.
Formula 1 games are annual sports releases. Features, supported platforms, editions and pricing can change from one season to the next, so verify the current PS5 listing in your region rather than relying on an older store page or a second-hand description.

Why rally feels unlike GT7
EA Sports WRC is the official FIA World Rally Championship game. PlayStation describes WRC, WRC2 and Junior WRC cars, drivers, teams and liveries from the 2023 season. Instead of circulating a closed track with opponents nearby, you attack a point-to-point stage while listening to pace notes and managing changing surfaces.

- FIND YOUR FAVOURITE GAME MODE - Start your career in a non-linear journey through a variety of racing and freestyle game modes in all three biomes, beat the competition and become the champion of the Showdown Tour!
That format changes your priorities. You need a rhythm that survives blind crests, loose gravel, tightening corners and imperfect landings. There is no opportunity to settle into a fixed braking marker for several laps. Each stage asks you to read the road, trust the notes and recover quickly when the car moves.
Driving model and hardware
Rally is demanding even when the game is configured for accessibility. A controller is entirely viable, particularly when you are learning stages and using assists, but a wheel and pedals make steering corrections and throttle modulation more deliberate. Force feedback can communicate surface changes and loss of grip, although the exact experience depends on the wheel, settings and mounting position.
If you are moving from GT7, expect to spend more time learning how the car behaves away from perfect tarmac. The goal is not to place within centimeters of a rival through a familiar corner; it is to maintain momentum while preserving the car through an entire stage.

Solo and online competition
The official championship classes give the solo experience a clear rally identity. You can approach it as a season, selecting an appropriate class and improving your stage craft over repeated runs. Online rally competition is naturally time-based: clean, fast stages matter more than wheel-to-wheel contact.
WRC is the strongest recommendation if the phrase “racing game” means point-to-point driving, pace notes and loose surfaces to you. It is not the closest substitute for GT7’s circuit routine, but it is the largest change in driving experience among these four options.
The Crew Motorfest: open-world variety with an arcade lean
What makes it the outlier
The Crew Motorfest is for players who want to leave the circuit. Current comparison coverage places its events in a Hawaiian open-world setting, where driving between activities is part of the appeal. The game is more arcade-oriented than the simulation-focused alternatives, so accessibility and variety matter more than reproducing every layer of vehicle behavior.
You can treat the map as a playground rather than a sequence of isolated races. Different event types, road routes and free-roaming travel keep the experience moving, which suits short sessions or groups that do not want to prepare a car for a single track.

Driving model and controller suitability
Motorfest is the easiest recommendation for a player who wants immediate control. A controller is the natural input method: steering is forgiving, recovery from mistakes is quicker and the emphasis is on reaching the next activity rather than protecting a perfect qualifying lap. A wheel can add immersion, but it is not the hardware priority it is for a technical simulator.
Rank #4
- 1183237
The trade-off is that Motorfest does not provide the same circuit-learning depth as ACC or the same single-seater precision as F1 25. If your favorite GT7 moments involve braking references, tire management and shaving tenths from one corner, the open-world format may feel too light.
Solo, social and online use
Its varied event playlists and free-roaming design make it a strong solo change of pace. Online and social activities work best when the group values exploring, switching vehicle types and trying different events rather than running a strict championship. Check the current PS5 edition and any online-account requirements before purchase, since live-service details can change.
Which game is closest to Gran Turismo 7?
Assetto Corsa Competizione is the closest in purpose, but not in breadth. Both reward circuit knowledge, controlled inputs and repeated practice. ACC is more specialized because it concentrates on GT3 racing and models tire grip, aerodynamics, suspension, electronics and damage in detail. GT7 remains the better choice if you want a much broader garage and a larger progression loop.
F1 25 is closer in the sense that it is another serious closed-circuit racer, but its single-seater rules and season structure make it a different discipline. EA Sports WRC is the closest alternative for a player who wants realism but is willing to leave tarmac circuits entirely. Motorfest is the closest for freedom of movement, not for simulation fidelity.
Independent reader supportYour contribution helps us test, update, and keep practical guides available for everyone.Choose by the kind of driving you want
If you want GT3 authenticity
Pick Assetto Corsa Competizione. Its limited category range means more attention goes into the behavior of the cars and the craft of circuit racing. Accept the narrower garage and the greater benefit of a wheel.
If you want Formula 1 teams and a season
Pick F1 25. My Team and the third Braking Point chapter give it solo structures that GT7 does not attempt, while licensed Formula 1 presentation keeps every event within one championship identity.
If you want rally stages and pace notes
Pick EA Sports WRC. The official WRC, WRC2 and Junior WRC content and point-to-point format make it the clearest choice for loose-surface driving and time-based competition.

If you want open roads and variety
Pick The Crew Motorfest. Its Hawaiian open world and arcade-oriented handling favor exploration, quick event changes and controller play over disciplined lap perfection.

If you mostly play with a controller
F1 25 and Motorfest are the easiest transitions. WRC remains very playable with assists and practice, while ACC asks the most from precise analog inputs and rewards a wheel setup sooner.
If you already own a wheel
Start with ACC if you want the most technical circuit experience, WRC if you want to use the wheel for rally corrections and surface changes, or F1 25 if you want single-seater precision. Motorfest can still be enjoyable, but its arcade direction means the wheel is an optional immersion upgrade rather than a requirement.
PS5 racing wheel and pedal advice
A racing wheel with pedals is the most natural hardware add-on for simulation-minded PS5 players. Current buying coverage specifically targets GT7, F1 25 and EA Sports WRC setups and emphasizes force feedback. Force feedback can communicate steering load, surface changes and the moment a tire begins to lose grip, but the quality of that information depends on the wheel, game settings and how securely the unit is mounted.
Match the hardware to the game
- For ACC: prioritize a stable wheel mount, a progressive brake pedal and settings that let you feel grip without making the steering exhausting.
- For F1 25: a responsive wheel and consistent braking help with rapid direction changes, but controller support and assists make a wheel optional.
- For EA Sports WRC: smooth steering response, reliable pedal travel and a comfortable seating position matter during long stages and repeated corrections.
- For Motorfest: buy a wheel only if you value immersion; the game’s accessible handling does not require a simulation setup.
Do not assume that every wheel works identically on PS5. Confirm console compatibility, supported games, included pedals, connection method and the current manufacturer’s setup instructions for the exact edition you intend to buy.
How to switch from GT7 without frustration
Start with one discipline
Do not try to learn four handling models at once. Choose ACC for circuit technique, F1 25 for single-seater racing, WRC for stages or Motorfest for exploration. Spend enough time to understand one game’s braking, steering and recovery behavior before judging it against GT7.
Keep assists while learning
Assists are not a failure. They let you separate the challenge of learning a new car from the challenge of managing every system manually. In F1 25 and WRC especially, reduce assists one at a time so you can identify which change caused a problem.
Use shorter sessions first
Run short races or stages while you learn. ACC rewards repeatable laps, WRC rewards a clean complete stage, and F1 25 rewards consistent pace across a sequence of corners. Longer events become more useful after your inputs stop changing from lap to lap or section to section.

GT7’s appeal includes building a broad collection over time. ACC’s appeal is depth within GT3 circuit racing; F1 25’s is a championship-season identity; WRC’s is stage mastery; Motorfest’s is variety in a shared open world. A game may feel “smaller” than GT7 because it is concentrating on a different goal, not because it is missing the feature you personally need.
Buying and edition checks for PS5
Game editions, discounts, online requirements and included content vary by region and can change after launch. Before paying, verify that the listing is the PS5 edition you want, whether an upgrade is included, which season or content is covered and whether the mode you plan to use requires an online account or subscription. This is particularly important for annual Formula 1 releases and live open-world games.
For physical copies, check the disc’s regional compatibility and whether additional downloads are required. For digital purchases, read the current store description rather than relying on an old review. The same caution applies to wheels: confirm current PS5 compatibility and supported-game information for the exact model, because accessory bundles and firmware support change over time.
Final recommendation by reader type
- GT7 circuit specialist: Assetto Corsa Competizione.
- Formula 1 fan: F1 25.
- Rally newcomer or stage-racing enthusiast: EA Sports WRC.
- Open-world driver who wants variety: The Crew Motorfest.
- Player seeking one broad all-round game: stay with Gran Turismo 7; none of these alternatives matches its combination of garage breadth and progression.
In short, ACC is the specialist substitute, F1 25 is the licensed single-seater route, WRC is the rally departure and Motorfest is the open-world change of pace. Pick the discipline you want to spend time mastering, then choose the controller or wheel setup that supports it.
