For most desk setups, start with a monitor that explicitly supports a 4K/120Hz signal over HDMI if you want the PS5 or PS5 Pro’s highest cited resolution and refresh combination. Add verified PS5-compatible VRR if you want tear reduction. You can spend less with a 1440p/120Hz model, but check its exact HDMI signal support rather than relying on the HDMI version printed on the box.

There is no single universal winner: TechRadar names the Alienware AW3225QF its overall pick, while RTINGS selects the ASUS ROG Swift OLED PG27UCDM. The better fit depends on your budget, preferred screen size, image priorities, and whether you will also use the monitor with a PC.

Our monitor picks for PS5 and PS5 Pro

The picks below reflect the cited publications’ recommendations and model notes, not independent hands-on testing. Their top choices differ, so treat them as options for distinct priorities rather than a single agreed ranking.

What you want Monitor Why it stands out Trade-off to consider
Premium 32-inch 4K Alienware AW3225QF TechRadar’s overall pick; a 32-inch curved QD-OLED with 4K resolution, two HDMI 2.1 ports, 240Hz maximum refresh rate, and DisplayHDR True Black 400 as listed in its guide. TechRadar notes the high price; the 240Hz ceiling is more relevant to PC use than PS5 output.
Premium 27-inch 4K ASUS ROG Swift OLED PG27UCDM RTINGS’ top pick; accepts PS5 and PS5 Pro 4K/120Hz output. Its 240Hz maximum exceeds the consoles’ cited 120Hz output ceiling.
Budget 4K/120Hz Dell S2725QS RTINGS’ budget 4K/120Hz choice; supports up to 4K/120Hz, including VRR. RTINGS notes weaker HDR and picture quality, as well as more motion blur, than stronger gaming options.
Budget 1440p KOORUI S2721PM RTINGS’ budget 1440p pick; supports 1440p/120Hz and VRR. It does not provide 4K/120Hz over HDMI 2.1 bandwidth.

TechRadar also names the ASUS TUF VG289Q as its budget pick, the Samsung Odyssey OLED G81SF as its premium pick, the Gigabyte M32UC as its curved pick, and the Sony Inzone M10S II as its 1440p pick. These are that guide’s category choices, not a combined ranking with RTINGS. See TechRadar’s 2026 PS5 monitor guide and RTINGS’ PS5 and PS5 Pro monitor guide for their full model-level coverage.

Acer Nitro 27in 4K 3840x2160 IPS 160Hz DFR 320Hz Gaming Monitor VG270K V4
  • Quality Visuals: The VG270K 27" IPS monitor with 3840 x 2160 UHD resolution in a 16:9 aspect ratio presents stunning, high-quality images with excellent detail. The zero-frame design does away with the thick frames found on conventional monitors freeing up precious screen space.
  • AMD FreeSync Premium Technology: Say “goodbye” to stuttering and tearing. With AMD FreeSync Premium, the monitor’s frames are synced with the graphics card’s frames, which eliminates screen tearing and provides the smoothest gaming experience.
  • Quick Refresh Rate: Different content has different refresh rate and resolution requirements. If you are playing an FPS or racing game, you will need a monitor with a high refresh rate. However, if you are doing office work or streaming videos, a higher resolution will be more beneficial. With DFR technology, users can choose a higher resolution, or a higher refresh rate based on what is suitable for them.
  • Responsive: Up to 0.5ms GTG (Gray to Gray) response time enhanced gamers’ in-game experience. No matter if the fast-moving action or any dramatic transitions will be rendered smoothly without the annoying effects of smearing or ghosting.
  • ZeroFrame Design: With a Nitro VG270K monitor, you’ll want to see as much of the display as possible. Get more real estate with the near bezel-less design, allowing you to see more and do more. The ZeroFrame design lets you place multiple monitors next to each other for a seamless, almost uninterrupted view.

What matters most when choosing a PS5 monitor?

Confirm the signal, not just the HDMI label

Sony says PS5 supports the HDMI 2.1 specification and 4K 120Hz video output. That does not mean every monitor described as HDMI 2.1 accepts every desired resolution and refresh combination on every input. Check the specific monitor’s supported HDMI signal, port, and any relevant firmware requirements. Sony’s PS5 resolution and 4K/120Hz setup guidance recommends checking display support, using the appropriate HDMI input and cable, connecting directly, updating firmware, and reviewing console output settings.

Choose 4K or 1440p according to your priorities

A 4K/120Hz display is the straightforward target if you want the highest cited combination of resolution and refresh. A 1440p monitor can be a cost-conscious choice for a desk setup, but it is a resolution trade-off, not an equivalent 4K alternative. For example, RTINGS says the KOORUI S2721PM supports 1440p/120Hz and VRR but not 4K/120Hz over HDMI 2.1 bandwidth.

Keep the console’s 120Hz ceiling in view

A monitor rated at 240Hz or higher does not make a PS5 game output above the console’s cited 120Hz ceiling. The extra refresh capacity may matter if the same display will also serve a PC; it is not a promise of higher console frame rates.

Check VRR on the actual model

If you want variable refresh rate, verify that the particular monitor supports VRR with PS5 at the signal you intend to use. Do not infer compatibility from an HDMI-version label alone. The Sony setup guidance covers console output settings and troubleshooting, while RTINGS’ model notes discuss VRR support for its listed picks.

Match panel, HDR, and size to your room

TechRadar’s guide presents OLED and QD-OLED as options for buyers prioritizing contrast, color, and response, while IPS and VA involve different image characteristics. Those are editorial buying considerations, not a universal measured ranking. For HDR, compare the display’s actual picture performance and local-dimming behavior rather than treating an HDR badge as sufficient; RTINGS flags picture-quality and HDR compromises on its budget 4K pick. Screen size and viewing distance matter at a desk, with TechRadar’s guide considering sizes up to 32 inches and describing curved versus flat screens as largely a matter of preference.

Is Sony’s new PlayStation monitor available?

Sony announced a 27-inch QHD monitor with HDR, Auto HDR Tone Mapping, VRR, and up to 120Hz for PS5 and PS5 Pro. Sony also described 240Hz support when used with compatible PC or Mac devices. The announcement states a planned 2026 launch in the U.S. and Japan; it does not establish a current retail date, price, or availability. Check the local listing and exact model before treating it as a purchasable option. Details are in Sony’s PlayStation monitor announcement.

Does PS5 Pro make an 8K monitor necessary?

No. Sony’s cited guidance says PS5 Pro 8K output requires an 8K/60Hz display that supports Display Stream Compression, and VRR is disabled during 8K output. This is a constrained use case, not a general requirement for choosing a PS5 Pro monitor. For a typical desk setup, prioritize the 4K/120Hz or 1440p signal you actually plan to use.

What to do if 4K/120Hz does not appear

  1. Confirm that the monitor supports 4K/120Hz over the HDMI input you are using.
  2. Connect the console directly to that input with an appropriate HDMI cable, rather than routing the signal through another device.
  3. Check for monitor firmware updates and install them if available.
  4. Review PS5 video output settings using Sony’s resolution guidance and confirm the display is set to the correct input.
