The best upgrade for most Ghost of Yōtei players is a compatible internal M.2 SSD if the console is short on space, followed by a comfortable headset and a reliable DualSense. Ghost of Yōtei is a PS5-only game released worldwide on October 2, 2025. It supports PS5 Pro features such as PSSR and advanced ray tracing, and it uses the DualSense controller’s haptic feedback and adaptive triggers. Accessories can improve capacity, sound, comfort, or control; none of them increases the game’s frame rate or image quality by itself.
For storage, compare capacity, PS5 M.2 fit, an installed heatsink, sustained speed, warranty, and price per terabyte. The WD_BLACK SN850P 2TB is a documented example with a PS5-optimized heatsink, a listed 7,300MB/s read speed, and a listed 6,300MB/s write speed, but verify its current specifications, price, and stock before buying. For audio, a wireless headset such as the SteelSeries Arctis Nova 7 has been used on PS5 in a hands-on Ghost of Yōtei review; a wired Drop + EPOS PC38X with a Creative Sound BlasterX G6 is an alternative. The Ghost of Yōtei Limited Edition DualSense is the most directly themed purchase, with a published $84.99 MSRP.
What Ghost of Yōtei means for your PS5 setup
Ghost of Yōtei is exclusive to PS5, so you do not need to account for PS4 compatibility when choosing accessories. PlayStation’s game page specifically points to the console’s ultra-high-speed SSD, while Sony’s announcement confirms support for DualSense haptics and adaptive triggers. Those facts make three accessory categories especially relevant:
Recommended Free Tools
- Storage: the game occupies part of the console’s internal capacity, and an internal M.2 SSD is the meaningful expansion route for playing PS5 games from expanded storage.
- Audio: a headset can make environmental sounds, dialogue, and combat cues easier to hear without using television speakers.
- Control: a functioning DualSense is central to the intended experience because the game uses haptic feedback and adaptive triggers.
PS5 Pro owners can use the same accessories. The console’s PSSR and advanced ray-tracing features are system and game support features, not effects unlocked by buying a particular SSD, headset, or controller.

Do you need an SSD for Ghost of Yōtei?
No, not if your PS5 has enough free internal space. An SSD is a capacity decision, not a required performance purchase for the game. The PS5 already includes an ultra-high-speed internal SSD. Add an M.2 drive when you want to keep more PS5 games installed, avoid repeatedly deleting and redownloading large titles, or maintain a separate library on the console.
When an internal M.2 drive is worthwhile
- Your console repeatedly reports insufficient space when installing or updating games.
- You want Ghost of Yōtei and several other large PS5 games available without managing storage every week.
- You prefer playing from internal expansion rather than moving games between USB storage and the console.
- You are buying a PS5 with less usable free capacity and want a long-term library solution.
When you can wait
- You have ample free space and only play a few games at a time.
- You are considering an SSD solely to improve frame rate, ray tracing, or image quality. Storage does not provide those upgrades.
- The drive you found lacks clear PS5 compatibility information or a correctly fitted heatsink. Waiting for a verified model is safer than forcing an uncertain fit.
How to choose a PS5 SSD
Use the following criteria together rather than choosing on a single headline speed.
Capacity
Choose capacity based on the number of PS5 games you keep installed. A 1TB-class drive is a modest expansion; 2TB gives substantially more room for a growing library. The console’s own system files mean the advertised capacity is not the same as free usable space.

(Please note you need an extra Microsoft Adapter when connect with an old version Xbox One controller)
- Cool style gaming experience: Colorful RGB lights create a gorgeous gaming atmosphere, adding excitement to every match. Heightening immersion for FPS, MOBA, and action titles. These eye-catching lights give your setup a gamer-ready look while maintaining focus on performance. (*Note: The USB connector is for LED lighting only)
PS5 M.2 compatibility and physical fit
The drive must be an M.2 model supported by the PS5 and must fit the console’s expansion bay. Check the complete drive-plus-heatsink height, length, and width, not just the bare SSD’s dimensions. A heatsink is important for sustained operation, but an oversized one can prevent the bay cover from closing correctly.
Sustained speed
Sequential read speed is useful for comparing products, but it is not the only measure of a good console drive. Sustained performance, firmware stability, thermal behavior, and the manufacturer’s PS5 compatibility guidance matter during large installs and extended play. Do not treat a higher advertised number as a guaranteed improvement to Ghost of Yōtei’s frame rate or graphics.
Warranty and price per terabyte
Compare the warranty term and its conditions, then calculate the current price per terabyte. Retail prices, promotions, and stock change quickly, so a drive that is good value one week may not be the best value the next. Keep a copy of your receipt and confirm the return policy in case the drive is incompatible or defective.

WD_BLACK SN850P 2TB: what the cited specifications establish
Tom’s Guide listed the WD_BLACK SN850P 2TB as officially licensed for PS5 and described a heatsink optimized for the console. The same listing reported a 7,300MB/s read speed and a 6,300MB/s write speed. Those are product-listing figures, not a Ghost of Yōtei benchmark, and the live model, price, and availability should be checked before ordering.
| Specification | Reported value | How to use it in your decision |
|---|---|---|
| Capacity | 2TB | Suitable for a larger installed PS5 library than a smaller expansion. |
| Sequential read | 7,300MB/s | Compare with other PS5-compatible drives, while recognizing that headline speed does not determine game frame rate. |
| Sequential write | 6,300MB/s | Relevant to installs and transfers; it is not a Ghost of Yōtei loading-time guarantee. |
| Heatsink | Optimized for PS5, according to the cited listing | Still verify the exact dimensions of the current retail model. |
| Current price and stock | Not stated and subject to change | Check the live listing and calculate price per terabyte at the time of purchase. |
Installing and checking an internal M.2 SSD
Follow the installation guide supplied for your exact PS5 model and drive. The broad process is:
- Back up important saves and confirm the drive. Make sure the SSD is the PS5-compatible model you intended to buy, with its heatsink installed correctly. Do not remove a factory-fitted heatsink unless the manufacturer explicitly requires it.
- Power down completely. Turn off the PS5 rather than leaving it in Rest Mode, disconnect the power cable, and allow the console to cool before opening the expansion area.
- Install the M.2 drive in the expansion bay. Use the console’s correct screw and spacer positions, keep the drive level, and do not overtighten. The bay cover should close without pressure.
- Reconnect and format when prompted. The PS5 will test and format a new M.2 SSD. Formatting erases the drive, so do not install one containing data you need to keep.
- Check the storage menu. Open the PS5 storage settings and confirm that the M.2 SSD appears with its expected capacity. If it is not detected, turn the console off and recheck seating, spacer position, heatsink clearance, and model compatibility.
- Choose the install location. In storage settings, set the M.2 SSD as the preferred location for PS5 games if you want new downloads there. Existing games can be moved using the console’s move option.
SSD installation problems and fixes
- Drive not detected: verify that the module is fully inserted and secured, then confirm that the exact model is supported by the PS5. A loose connection or incorrect spacer position is more likely than a game-specific fault.
- Capacity is lower than the box value: some space is used for formatting and system management. Compare the displayed capacity with the manufacturer’s stated decimal capacity rather than expecting the full printed number.
- Overheating or warnings: stop using the drive and check that the heatsink is fitted as designed and that the expansion cover is not obstructed. Do not stack extra pads or covers that change the specified height.
- Games remain on the internal drive: changing the preferred install location does not necessarily move existing games. Use the storage menu’s move command for those titles.
Choosing a headset for Ghost of Yōtei
The right headset depends more on connection, comfort, and microphone behavior than on a game logo. Compare wireless convenience against wired simplicity, then check whether the headset remains comfortable through a full play session.

Wireless: SteelSeries Arctis Nova 7
TechRadar’s hands-on Ghost of Yōtei review used a SteelSeries Arctis Nova 7 wireless gaming headset with a PS5 Slim. That establishes practical PS5 use, not a Ghost of Yōtei certification or endorsement by Sony or Sucker Punch. It is a sensible example for players who want to move around, avoid a cable across the room, and use a built-in microphone.
Before buying, confirm the exact connection method for the version you are considering, expected battery life, microphone monitoring or sidetone controls, spatial-audio support, and the weight and clamping force. Wireless convenience is valuable only if the headset remains comfortable and its battery covers your normal sessions.
Wired: Drop + EPOS PC38X
The same review used a wired Drop + EPOS PC38X with a Creative Sound BlasterX G6 on PS5 Pro. A wired headset avoids charging and can reduce wireless troubleshooting, but cable routing and controller or USB compatibility become part of the setup. Treat the external sound card as an optional component of that particular configuration, not a requirement for every PS5 owner.

Wireless versus wired
| Consideration | Wireless headset | Wired headset |
|---|---|---|
| Convenience | No long cable to the console; requires charging. | Plug in and play; cable must reach the controller or console. |
| Latency risk | Check the supplied dongle or supported wireless mode. | Usually straightforward, subject to the chosen adapter or DAC. |
| Microphone | Look for sidetone, mute controls, and boom quality. | Check the boom position and whether the chosen connection carries microphone audio. |
| Comfort | Weight and battery placement matter over long sessions. | Weight, cable drag, and clamping force matter over long sessions. |
| Maintenance | Recharge battery and keep the wireless adapter available. | Protect the cable and inspect plugs for wear. |
PS5 headset setup checklist
- Connect the headset’s wireless receiver or cable according to its PS5 instructions.
- Open the PS5 sound settings and select the headset as the input and output device if it is not selected automatically.
- Set microphone level so speech is clear without clipping, and enable sidetone only if you prefer hearing your own voice.
- Adjust game/chat balance while in a party or multiplayer session; keep dialogue and environmental audio audible during solo play.
- Test the headset at the volume you will actually use. A headset that sounds impressive for five minutes but causes pressure after an hour is a poor long-session choice.
Which controller should you buy?
Ghost of Yōtei Limited Edition DualSense
Sony announced a Ghost of Yōtei Limited Edition DualSense Wireless Controller in Black or Gold designs with a $84.99 MSRP. It is the clearest choice if the themed finish and collectibility matter to you. It uses the same DualSense feature set relevant to the game—haptic feedback and adaptive triggers—so the purchase is primarily about design, availability, and having another controller rather than unlocking extra gameplay functions.
Limited-edition stock can disappear or vary by region. Check the seller’s current listing, warranty, return terms, and whether the controller is new and sealed. Do not assume every listing at a higher price reflects an official MSRP; the published reference is $84.99.
Second standard DualSense
A second standard DualSense is the practical option for local multiplayer, a backup when the first controller is charging, or replacement after battery wear. Ghost of Yōtei does not require the limited-edition shell to deliver haptics or adaptive triggers. Compare the standard controller’s current price and color with the limited edition, then decide whether the themed design justifies any difference.

Controller buying and care checklist
- Confirm that the controller is a genuine PS5 DualSense rather than a look-alike accessory.
- Check battery condition and the seller’s return policy, especially for open-box or used units.
- Update the controller firmware when the PS5 offers an update.
- Keep the USB-C cable and charging port free of strain; intermittent charging can look like a battery fault.
- If adaptive triggers or haptics feel absent, check the game’s controller settings and the PS5’s vibration and trigger-effect settings before assuming the controller is defective.
PS5 Pro and the official themed bundle
Ghost of Yōtei supports PS5 Pro features, including PSSR and advanced ray tracing. Buying an SSD, headset, or themed controller does not add those features; they depend on owning the compatible console and the game’s support.
For people who do not yet own a console, PlayStation Direct lists a Ghost of Yōtei Black Limited Edition PS5 Console Bundle with 1TB of built-in storage and an ultra-high-speed SSD. That is a console purchase, not an accessory upgrade for an existing PS5. Existing owners should compare the cost and usefulness of an accessory against their current console before considering a bundle.
Quick Recap
A purchase order that avoids wasted money
- Check storage first. If you have enough free space, postpone the SSD and spend on comfort or audio instead.
- Choose your audio connection. Pick wireless for room-to-room convenience and wired for no charging and a simpler signal path.
- Decide whether the controller is functional or collectible. Buy a standard DualSense for backup value; choose the limited edition when its design is the point.
- Verify live details. Recheck price, stock, regional availability, warranty, and the exact model number immediately before ordering.
- Install one change at a time. Confirm that the PS5 recognizes a new SSD, headset, or controller before discarding packaging or adding another variable.
Compatibility checklist before checkout
- Does the SSD explicitly support PS5 and include a heatsink that fits the console bay?
- Is the advertised capacity sufficient for the number of games you keep installed?
- Are read/write figures accompanied by clear warranty and thermal information?
- Does the headset use a PS5-supported wireless receiver or a connection that carries the audio and microphone channels you need?
- Can you wear it comfortably for a complete session?
- Is the controller a genuine DualSense with a clear warranty and return policy?
- Are you paying a current, verified price rather than assuming an old promotion or the $84.99 limited-edition MSRP is still the market price?
