Bedford Falls and Raven Creek are the two community maps most often recommended for a Project Zomboid multiplayer server. Choose Bedford Falls for a large, town-focused Build 41 expansion, or Raven Creek for a dense urban map with heavy loot and zombie pressure. Neither choice is plug-and-play: you must match the server and clients to the same game build, put the correct Workshop and mod identifiers in the server settings, keep vanilla maps in the Map= line, and test the load order with every other map you run.
Quick comparison: which map fits your server?
The table below separates what is established about each option from details that still need verification on the Steam Workshop page or on your own test server. Hosting-company roundups frequently name Bedford Falls and Raven Creek, but those roundups are rankings rather than neutral performance tests.

How to choose a multiplayer map
Match the game build before judging the map
Project Zomboid map mods are build-sensitive. A Build 41 mod does not run on a Build 42 server. Bedford Falls is documented as a Build 41 map, and its Build 42 status is unconfirmed. Treat it as Build 41-only until the Workshop page and a clean test save demonstrate otherwise. Apply the same check to Raven Creek and every dependency in a collection; do not assume that a map that worked on an earlier patch has been ported.
Decide whether your players want breadth or pressure
- Choose Bedford Falls when your group wants a broad town to explore, multiple new structures and a conventional expansion of the survival sandbox.
- Choose Raven Creek when the appeal is a compact, high-density city where loot routes, line-of-sight and zombie concentration dominate early play.
- Choose a collection only when your group specifically wants a large regional road trip and you are prepared to manage dependencies and cell conflicts.
Do not use map popularity as a performance guarantee
No published benchmark or study in the available material measures server RAM, tick rate or client frame rate for these maps. A map being frequently named in roundups is not evidence that it will perform equally on your hardware. Test with the actual player count, mod list and server settings you intend to deploy.

Bedford Falls: the safer first expansion for a Build 41 server
What the map adds
A Build 41 guide describes Bedford Falls by RingoD123 as a huge, detailed fictional town. It adds structures and loot locations while creating additional survival challenges. The scale makes it suitable for a group that wants several neighborhoods and longer-term expeditions rather than a single compact destination.
Compatibility and identifiers
The guide identifies Workshop ID 522891356. Its example mod identifier is BedfordFalls. Both values must be copied exactly into their respective server settings, but verify the Workshop page before deploying because Workshop items can be replaced, renamed or republished.
Do these 3 things before closing this tab:
1Scan for outdated or missing drivers - takes under a minute2Repair Windows errors before they cause bigger problems3Fix the driver behind crashes, sound loss and screen glitchesBedford Falls is established as a Build 41 community map. Build 42 compatibility is not confirmed, so a Build 42 server should not load it merely because the item remains visible in a subscription list.
Example server entries
The Build 41 guide gives this example map line:
Map=BedfordFalls;North;South;West
Its corresponding example uses:
WorkshopItems=522891356
Mods=BedfordFalls
The line is an example, not a universal drop-in file. Keep the vanilla map entries required by your server and append Bedford Falls in the order your tested load order requires. In particular, do not remove Muldraugh, KY from Map= simply to make room for the custom map.
Where Bedford Falls becomes difficult
Bedford Falls can share edge cells with other map additions. The Bedford Falls guide says to place its map mod before other map mods that share those cells. A separate multi-map collection gives Bedford Falls the lowest priority so other additions retain their buildings. Those instructions describe opposite priorities; neither should be treated as a universal rule. If you combine Bedford Falls with Raven Creek or another expansion, make a copy of the save, test both orders and inspect the affected borders in game.
Raven Creek: a dense urban challenge
What the map adds
Raven Creek is described as a high-detail urban map packed with loot and zombies. Its density changes the rhythm of multiplayer: players can find supplies quickly, but buildings, streets and zombie groups leave less room for a quiet beginning. It suits a group that wants urban navigation and high-risk scavenging rather than a mostly rural campaign.

Verify the Workshop page before editing the server
One hosting configuration lists Workshop ID 2196102849, mod ID RavenCreek and map line Muldraugh, KY;RavenCreek. Those values are explicitly unverified. Confirm the current numeric Workshop ID and the internal mod name on Raven Creek’s Steam Workshop page. The display name shown to a player can differ from the identifier required in Mods=; copying a title instead of the internal name can prevent the map from loading.
Example configuration
WorkshopItems=2196102849
Mods=RavenCreek
Map=Muldraugh, KY;RavenCreek
Use this only as a format example after checking the item. The vanilla Muldraugh, KY entry remains important. If your server already contains other map folders, merge the tested sequence rather than replacing the complete line with this short example.
Urban-map planning
- Give players a clear spawn and evacuation plan; a dense city can make an accidental early detour costly.
- Test the map with the same zombie settings and player count you will use in production. No independent source establishes a universal RAM or tick-rate cost for Raven Creek.
- Check every neighboring map for overlapping cells before adding more urban expansions. A map that loads by itself can lose buildings when another mod writes to the same cell.
Large collections: when “more maps” becomes a systems project
What the named collection contains
A Steam collection titled “+150 Maps Mods Full Compatible” targets Build 41.78 single-player and multiplayer and bundles map additions with dependencies. Its guide supplies a load order and recommends a Map Mod Manager to locate cell conflicts. The collection summary describes 175 additions while the title says “+150,” so check the live item count and the current dependency list before subscribing.
A separate Build 41 Modded Map Collection, identified as the Cheery Edition, is also available on the Workshop. The existence of a collection does not guarantee that every item is maintained for the same patch; treat each included map as a separate compatibility decision.

- Every additional map can add a dependency, a competing cell definition or a new required load-order rule.
- One outdated item can stop a server that otherwise has compatible maps.
- Collection authors can change the order or membership without matching your existing save.
- The larger the list, the more important it is to pin versions and keep a known-good copy of the server configuration.
For a first multiplayer season, a single tested map is easier to support. Add a collection only when the group values geographic variety more than a simple, predictable maintenance cycle.
Install a map on a dedicated multiplayer server
1. Confirm the game build and make a rollback copy
- Check whether the server and every player are running Build 41 or Build 42. Do not mix a Build 41 map list with a Build 42 server.
- Stop the server and back up the server configuration, save directory and existing mod list. Test new maps on a separate save; adding or removing world cells can make a live save difficult to recover.
- Write down the exact Workshop page, build target and dependency list for each map.
2. Subscribe the server and clients to the same Workshop items
Use the numeric Workshop ID in WorkshopItems=. Every client connecting to the server must have the same Workshop subscriptions. If a client lacks one of the server’s required items, Project Zomboid refuses the connection during the handshake rather than allowing a partial map list.

3. Put internal mod IDs in the Mods setting
Mods= takes the mod ID, not the numeric Workshop ID. The two fields are never interchangeable:
| Setting | Required value | Example |
|---|---|---|
WorkshopItems= |
Numeric Steam Workshop item ID | 522891356 |
Mods= |
Internal mod identifier read from the item or its documentation | BedfordFalls |
Map= |
Map folder names, including the vanilla map entry | Muldraugh, KY;BedfordFalls;North;South;West |
A display title, a Workshop ID and a map-folder name may all be different strings. Verify each one independently.
4. Build the Map line without deleting vanilla entries
Map mods must load before the map folders they extend, and the map folder must appear in Map=. Keep the vanilla entry, especially Muldraugh, KY, even when your custom map is the main destination. Removing default maps can cause startup or world-generation problems.
For example, a Bedford Falls test might start with:
Map=Muldraugh, KY;BedfordFalls;North;South;West
Do not copy this sequence unchanged into a multi-map server. Add each folder in the order confirmed by a clean test, and preserve punctuation exactly.

Content mods such as Brita’s Weapon Pack and Common Sense are installed server-side when the server uses them. Pure interface mods such as Inventory Tetris or CleanUI are client-only and should not be forced into the server’s content list. A missing dependency can look like a map failure, so record dependencies beside each map in your deployment notes.

- Please Note: To reach 10Gbps speed, keep the cable under 3.3 ft. For USB A Male to USB C adapters, try flipping the USB C connector. USB C Male to USB A adapters support bidirectional 10Gbps transfer within 3.3 ft
6. Pin versions before opening the server to players
Pin Workshop versions so the server does not automatically update a map or dependency immediately after a new game patch. Update one item at a time on a staging server, load a test save, walk the map borders and connect with a client before promoting the change.
Load order and cell conflicts
Why published instructions disagree
Map order controls which mod’s cell definition wins when two additions touch the same location. The Bedford Falls guide says to put Bedford Falls before other map mods that share edge cells. The large Steam collection instead gives Dirkerdam, Slocum Lake Redux and Bedford Falls the lowest priority so Eerie Country, Raven Creek, Kingsmouth in KY and Greenport are not overwritten. These directions cannot both be a universal priority rule.
A practical conflict-testing method
- Start with vanilla maps plus one custom map. Confirm that the server boots, the expected spawn appears and the map is visible in game.
- Add the second map without changing any other setting. Test the shared border and visit buildings on both sides.
- Swap the two map entries or mod priorities and repeat the same route on a fresh save.
- Keep the order that preserves the intended buildings and spawns. Record the result with the exact mod versions.
- Repeat after every map update; a patch can change cell coverage even when the map name remains the same.
A Map Mod Manager can help identify overlapping cells in a large collection, but it does not replace an in-game test.
Supporting mods and resource trade-offs
Low-impact quality-of-life choices
Roundups commonly name Common Sense, Better Sorting, Skill Recovery Journal and Proximity Inventory alongside map recommendations. Common Sense is described as a quality-of-life mod with no balance impact and very low RAM use. The roundup descriptions for the other three are not primary-source specifications, so verify their current build support and multiplayer behavior before adding them.
Core libraries
Community Core Library (CCL) is recommended in multiplayer roundups as the first mod to install for a stable server. Treat it as a dependency only when the map or content mod you selected explicitly requires it; an unnecessary library still adds another item to maintain.
Large weapon packs
Brita’s Weapon Pack adds more than 200 guns, attachments and ammunition types. The available description estimates 1–2 GB of RAM use, and some servers find that its abundance changes combat balance. That estimate is a mod description, not a benchmark for your particular map or player count. Test it separately from the map so you can identify whether a problem comes from world cells or item generation.

Troubleshooting common failures
The server refuses a player at the handshake
- Compare the client’s Workshop subscriptions with the server’s complete
WorkshopItems=list. - Confirm that both sides are on the same game build and that the client has finished downloading each item.
- Check that the server is not requiring a content mod that the client intentionally omitted.
The server boots but the map is absent
- Verify the numeric Workshop ID and the internal mod ID separately; do not put one in the other’s field.
- Check that the map folder appears in
Map=and that the vanilla entry was retained. - Confirm that the map targets your Build 41 or Build 42 server.
- Test the map alone on a new save before diagnosing interactions with other maps.
Spawns do not appear or the server fails during startup
A server-owner report involving Raven Creek, Bedford Falls and Chinatown described missing spawns and maps at boot. Disabling Chinatown allowed the server to boot, but Raven Creek and Bedford Falls still did not appear. Another commenter said moving a nature reserve above Bedford Falls and deleting “North” fixed that setup. These are anecdotal configurations, not universal fixes. Use them as clues to investigate overlapping cells: remove one map at a time, restore the vanilla entry, and retest on a disposable save rather than deleting folders from a live world.

Swap the competing map priorities and revisit the same cells. Follow the specific collection or map guide only as a starting point because the documented Bedford Falls and collection orders conflict. Keep the tested order in version control or a dated deployment note.
The map worked until a Workshop update
Restore the last pinned version, confirm the server boots, then test the new version on staging. Do not let an automatic Workshop update alter a live multiplayer world before the new map and every dependency have been checked together.
A deployment checklist for a reliable season
- Game build recorded for the server and every client.
- Workshop page checked for the current item ID, internal mod ID, dependencies and build target.
- Server and client Workshop subscriptions match.
WorkshopItems=,Mods=andMap=contain the correct type of value.- Vanilla maps, including
Muldraugh, KY, remain inMap=. - Map-only test completed on a new save.
- Every additional map added one at a time and checked for shared cells.
- Load order recorded after testing both competing priorities where instructions disagree.
- Workshop versions pinned before public launch.
- Client-only interface mods kept out of the server’s required content list.
- Backups made before changing a live save or removing a map.
Which one should you install?
Pick Bedford Falls when
Your server is on Build 41, your group wants a large town and you prefer to begin with one well-defined community map. Use the documented identifiers as a starting point, verify them on the Workshop page, and test its borders before adding another expansion.
Pick Raven Creek when
Your players specifically want a dense urban challenge and are willing to verify the current Workshop ID, internal name and build support. Start with Raven Creek alone, then add Bedford Falls or other maps only after the city loads and its spawns work correctly.
Pick a collection when
Your group wants many destinations and someone is willing to maintain dependencies, pinned versions and a tested load order. Treat the collection’s stated item count as something to check on the live page, not as a fixed guarantee.
