For a day away from an outlet, a 10,000mAh USB-C power bank is a useful starting point for many phone owners. A lightweight wired model is the better fit if you value carrying ease; a magnetic Qi2 bank adds cable-free convenience if your phone and case support it. The INIU Pocket Rocket and UGREEN MagFlow illustrate those trade-offs, but neither is a universal pick: check your phone’s charging support and the bank’s exact specifications before buying.
How much extra phone power should you expect?
A power bank’s printed milliamp-hour (mAh) capacity is not the amount of charge that will reach your phone. Tom’s Guide says its tests suggest roughly 70–80% of a bank’s stored power may reach a phone after transfer losses; it estimates a 10,000mAh bank could deliver around 6,000mAh of extra phone charge. For one phone during a typical day out, a compact bank may be easier to carry than a larger-capacity model. If you expect several top-ups or need to charge multiple devices, more capacity may help, but the added size and weight—and the time needed to recharge the bank—are practical trade-offs.

Choose wired output, ports, and weight around your phone
Check charging-rate compatibility
A bank’s maximum output is not a promise that your phone will charge at that rate. The phone must support the charging standard and rate, and the cable and port must also be suitable. Tom’s Guide advises matching the bank’s output capability to the phone’s supported charging rate. Look up your phone’s charging specifications rather than choosing by the largest wattage printed on a bank.

Decide whether a built-in cable helps
An integrated USB-C cable means one less accessory to remember, as with the Pocket Rocket and MagFlow. If you prefer to use a cable you already own, check that the bank has the port you need. Compare the number and type of ports against the devices you expect to charge; a port count matters most when you will charge more than one device at a time.

The Pocket Rocket is listed at 5oz, while the MagFlow is listed at 254g. The latter adds magnetic wireless charging, but it is substantially heavier by the published figures. Choose based on what you will actually carry: an attached wireless charger can be convenient, while a light wired bank may be less noticeable in a pocket or small bag.

When a magnetic wireless bank makes sense
Qi2 magnetic charging is useful when your phone supports it and the phone or case aligns securely with the charger. Verify compatibility for your exact phone and case before choosing a magnetic model. Wireless charging also has practical trade-offs: it can add bulk and weight, and charging behavior may vary with device, alignment, and conditions. A wired bank avoids relying on magnetic attachment and can be the simpler choice if compatibility is uncertain.

For flights covered by U.S. FAA guidance
The FAA says power banks and spare lithium-ion batteries must go in carry-on baggage, not checked baggage. Its passenger guidance allows lithium-ion batteries under 100Wh for personal use without stating a passenger count limit. Batteries rated 101–160Wh require airline approval, with up to two such spare batteries allowed per person. To calculate watt-hours, multiply volts by amp-hours; for a capacity stated in mAh, divide by 1,000 first. The FAA says the Wh rating should be marked on the battery. Keep the bank protected from damage and short circuits. If a battery or device overheats, expands, smokes, or burns, the FAA says passengers should notify the flight crew immediately.

What to check before buying
- Confirm your phone’s supported charging rate and whether it supports the bank’s wired or Qi2 wireless charging.
- Compare capacity with the number of top-ups and devices you expect to need, keeping in mind that some stored energy is lost during charging.
- Check the listed weight, port types, included or built-in cable, and whether a magnetic model works with your phone and case.
- If you will fly, check the Wh rating printed on the bank and the current rules for your airline and route.
- Verify the exact product revision and current manufacturer specifications before purchase; prices, stock, and product details can change.
