There is no evidence-supported, universally best Pokémon partner for Zoroark in Pokémon GO PvP. Zoroark is a fragile Dark-type that needs teammates able to handle Bug, Fairy and Fighting attacks while absorbing the pressure it cannot. The most reliable approach is to build around roles—weakness coverage, durability, safe switching and endgame closing power—then test the combination in the exact league and shield format you intend to play.

Current rankings and moves can change, so treat every named lineup as a dated experiment rather than a permanent answer. The framework below uses the October 2026 Zoroark data, current battle timing rules and PvPoke’s simulation methodology to help you choose partners without mistaking a single ranking for a guaranteed team.

What Zoroark contributes—and why it needs help

Zoroark’s Dark typing gives it useful resistances to Dark, Ghost and especially Psychic attacks. Those resistances can let it enter matchups that threaten other team members. Its problem is the damage it takes from Bug, Fairy and Fighting attacks, combined with limited bulk. A resisted matchup is not automatically safe if a neutral charged move or a poor shield decision removes most of Zoroark’s health.

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.

That combination makes Zoroark an alignment-sensitive Pokémon. It can deliver meaningful damage when it reaches a favorable opponent, but it is difficult to use as a general-purpose damage sponge. A partner therefore has to do more than share a type advantage: it must give the team somewhere to place attacks, recover from an unfavorable lead and preserve Zoroark for the matchup where its resistances matter.

Its current PvP moves

Pokémon GO Hub’s October 2026 Great and Ultra League guide lists Shadow Claw as the fast move with Foul Play and Sludge Bomb as charged moves. Recent coverage also discusses Sucker Punch as a newly available PvP fast-move option alongside Foul Play and Sludge Bomb. That addition does not remove Zoroark’s central bulk limitation, so a new move should be treated as a reason to retest a team, not proof that Zoroark has become a universally strong pick.

Published league positions

The following figures are Pokémon GO Hub’s 2026 guide rankings. They are positions among eligible Pokémon, not player-wide win rates, usage rates or tournament records.

League Reported position What the figure means
Great League 797 of 1,143 eligible Pokémon A guide ranking for that league and date
Ultra League 628 of 841 eligible Pokémon A guide ranking for that league and date
Master League No ranking information reported There is no supplied ranking value to use as evidence

These placements should set expectations: a partner cannot turn Zoroark into a universally safe pick. Your goal is a coherent, playable team in a defined format, not a claim that the trio wins broadly against every opponent.

Use the correct Zoroark build before choosing a partner

Team advice is only meaningful when the Zoroark version is fixed. The guide gives one Great League example at level 21.5, 1,496 CP and an IV spread of 1/15/15. Its Ultra League example is level 42 at 2,497 CP. Those are examples of league-legal builds from the guide, not mandatory IV targets for every account.

Write down the league, CP target, fast move and charged moves before evaluating teammates. Changing from Shadow Claw to Sucker Punch, or changing a charged move, alters energy timing and matchup outcomes. If you compare teams with different Zoroark builds, you are not comparing the same team.

The four jobs a Zoroark partner must cover

No source establishes one named Pokémon as the best partner. The defensible recommendation is role-based: select teammates that compensate for Zoroark’s weaknesses and fragility, then verify the result in simulations.

1. Answer Bug, Fairy and Fighting pressure

At least one teammate should have credible ways to manage each of Zoroark’s three weakness categories. “Manage” can mean resisting the incoming attack, threatening the attacker quickly, forcing a shield or creating enough switch pressure to avoid a losing alignment. Do not count a theoretical resistance if the candidate is too fragile to reach a move or is defeated by the opponent’s coverage attack.

2. Supply bulk that Zoroark lacks

A durable partner gives you a place to spend shields selectively and can survive a neutral hit while you regain alignment. Look for candidates that retain useful health after common charged attacks, not merely Pokémon with a favorable typing on paper. If every member requires a shield to function, Zoroark’s low margin for error becomes the team’s low margin for error.

3. Create a safe-switch plan

Because Zoroark can lose quickly to a weakness, the team needs a way to leave a bad lead without sacrificing the entire match. A safe switch should have enough general matchup play to draw out an answer, preserve shields or force the opponent to reveal their closer. A partner that only works when aligned perfectly does not solve Zoroark’s main problem.

4. Preserve a closing route

When shields are low, Zoroark’s resistances and charged-move pressure may become more valuable. The third team member should leave a realistic endgame after the safe switch has exposed the opponent’s answer. Avoid building three Pokémon that all lose to the same remaining weakness once shields disappear.

Role blueprints to test instead of chasing a “best” name

The table below describes team functions. It is a testing framework, not a claim that one specific species or trio is proven superior.

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.
Team slot or role Purpose beside Zoroark Questions to test Warning sign
Durable lead Absorb early pressure and establish alignment before Zoroark appears Can it survive a neutral charged move? Does it threaten at least one of Zoroark’s weakness categories? It loses so much health in the lead that Zoroark must spend both shields immediately
Safe switch Repair a bad opening and draw out the opponent’s answer Can it pressure shields without perfect alignment? Does it leave Zoroark a usable endgame? It is hard-countered by the same Bug, Fairy or Fighting threat that beats Zoroark
Weakness specialist Directly handle a category that threatens Zoroark Does it actually reach its charged move before fainting? Can it win or soften the matchup in more than one shield state? Its advantage disappears when the opponent uses a common coverage move
Closer Capitalize on shields being down and the opponent’s answers being revealed Does it gain consistent value with one or zero shields? Can Zoroark safely preserve it for the end? The team has no plan after the opponent saves a shield for the closer

A single Pokémon can fill more than one role. For example, a bulky lead may also be the safe switch, while a weakness specialist may serve as the closer. The important test is whether the three roles still cover different failure modes.

How to build and verify a Zoroark team

  1. Choose the league and rules first. Select Great or Ultra League and record the CP target, allowed Pokémon and shield format. Do not carry a Great League conclusion into Ultra League; the available matchups, bulk and rankings differ.
  2. Lock Zoroark’s moveset. Start with the Shadow Claw, Foul Play and Sludge Bomb set listed by Pokémon GO Hub, or explicitly test the Sucker Punch alternative. Keep the same build throughout a comparison.
  3. List the team’s weakness obligations. Write “Bug,” “Fairy” and “Fighting” on a worksheet. For each candidate partner, note which of those categories it can resist, pressure or safely absorb. Mark a category as covered only when the Pokémon can perform that job in the intended shield scenarios.
  4. Add one durable foundation. Use a candidate that can take attacks without immediately consuming both shields. Compare remaining health after common neutral damage, not just the win/loss icon in a single simulation.
  5. Add a switch option. Put the candidate into the second slot and test it against an unfavorable Zoroark lead. Check whether it can draw a shield, force a switch or preserve enough health for the endgame.
  6. Run PvPoke simulations in the intended league. PvPoke describes its rankings as best guesses and its matchup results as simulations whose exact order can change. Use the team builder with the same moves, IVs, shields and move timing each time.
  7. Test all lead and switch permutations. A team that looks good only when Zoroark leads may fail when Zoroark is held in the back. Run Zoroark in each slot, then test the switch into every major weakness category your team is meant to answer.
  8. Repeat at zero, one and two shields. Zoroark’s fragility makes shield allocation unusually important. Record whether a matchup changes from a win to a loss when Zoroark has one fewer shield.
  9. Review energy and alignment, not only final scores. Note whether Zoroark reaches Foul Play or Sludge Bomb before fainting, whether a partner can leave with stored energy and whether a forced switch changes the result. A narrow simulated win may be unusable if it depends on perfect timing.
  10. Play a small controlled set of battles. Use the same team for enough games to identify recurring failure patterns, but do not turn a short personal streak into a universal ranking. If the same weakness repeatedly decides games, change the role that failed rather than swapping randomly.

Interpreting simulator rankings without overclaiming

PvPoke’s rankings estimate performance across a chosen field and rule set. They are not a fixed truth, a guarantee of individual wins or a substitute for checking the current move pool. A Pokémon can rank highly in one shield scenario and perform poorly when alignment, leads or move timing change.

Use rankings to generate candidates, then inspect the matchups that matter to your team. If a candidate is recommended because it covers Fairy, verify whether it still does so when shields are down, when the opponent reaches a charged move first and when the candidate is forced into a switch. Record the assumptions next to every result: league, moveset, IVs, shield count and date.

Battle timing that changes Zoroark decisions

The official 2026 Trainer Battle update standardizes fixed-duration turns. Damage and energy resolve at the end of each turn; swaps resolve before damage; a quick swap costs one turn; a forced swap costs no turn; and Charged Attacks begin at the start of the next turn. The official update states: “Swaps always resolve before damage.”

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.

Why the swap rule matters

With a fragile Pokémon, switching at the wrong moment can cost the health you were trying to preserve. Because swaps resolve before damage, a correctly timed switch can change which Pokémon receives the incoming attack. A quick swap still costs a turn, so the decision is not free: compare the health saved with the energy or fast-move pressure lost.

Why forced swaps are different

A forced swap does not cost a turn under the stated rules. If an effect or battle condition removes your active Pokémon, do not apply the same timing assumption you use for a voluntary quick swap. When reviewing a simulation or replay, identify whether the switch was voluntary or forced before blaming the partner choice.

Why charged-move timing matters

Charged Attacks begin at the start of the next turn, while damage and energy resolve at the end of the current turn. That timing affects whether Zoroark reaches a final Foul Play or Sludge Bomb, whether a partner can safely farm energy and whether a switch preserves alignment before damage lands. Practice the exact sequence rather than relying on older timing habits.

League-specific expectations

Great League

For Great League, the Pokémon GO Hub example uses Zoroark at level 21.5 and 1,496 CP with a 1/15/15 IV spread. The guide places it at 797 of 1,143 eligible Pokémon. A team built around that example should prioritize preserving Zoroark for favorable resisted matchups and using a sturdier teammate to absorb the early exchange.

Do not interpret the ranking as proof that every Great League opponent defeats Zoroark. It is a guide position for the eligible field, and individual results depend on leads, shields, IVs, moves and timing.

Ultra League

The Ultra League example reaches level 42 and 2,497 CP. Pokémon GO Hub places Zoroark at 628 of 841 eligible Pokémon in that league. The same role logic applies, but do not assume a Great League partner transfers unchanged: bulk breakpoints, move timing and the surrounding field can alter the result.

Master League

The cited 2026 guide provides no Master League ranking information for Zoroark. Without a reported ranking or tested team result, a Master League partner cannot be presented as established. If you experiment there, label the lineup as your own test and verify every matchup in the current simulator settings.

Common team-building mistakes and fixes

Mistake: treating one type resistance as complete coverage

A partner may resist one attack category yet lose to the opponent’s secondary move or fast-move pressure. Fix this by simulating the full moveset and checking health remaining, not only the type chart.

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.

Mistake: putting three fragile attackers together

High damage does not compensate for having no Pokémon that can absorb a neutral hit. Add a durable role and measure how many shields the team requires to function.

Mistake: assuming Sucker Punch solves the bulk issue

Recent coverage identifies Sucker Punch as a new option with Foul Play and Sludge Bomb, but also says it does not fix Zoroark’s central fragility. Compare it with Shadow Claw in the exact league rather than changing moves on reputation alone.

Mistake: reading a guide rank as a win rate

The values 797/1,143 and 628/841 are rankings, not participation, usage or tournament statistics. Cite them with their league and date whenever you use them.

Mistake: ignoring shield and swap timing

A team can appear strong in a static matchup and fail when a quick swap costs a turn or when the opponent’s damage resolves after a different alignment. Re-run the scenario with current fixed-turn rules and record the sequence that produced the result.

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.

Mistake: declaring a universal trio from a short test

A handful of favorable battles cannot establish the best partner. Keep the claim narrow: explain which role the partner fills, which weaknesses it covers and under which league and shield settings it worked.

A practical decision checklist

  • Have you selected Great or Ultra League before choosing partners?
  • Is Zoroark’s fast move and charged-move set fixed for every comparison?
  • Does the team have an explicit response to Bug, Fairy and Fighting pressure?
  • Can at least one teammate absorb neutral damage without immediately using both shields?
  • Is there a safe-switch plan when Zoroark loses the lead?
  • Does the team still have a closer when shields are down?
  • Have you tested all three slots, multiple shield counts and current fixed-turn timing?
  • Are simulator rankings being treated as estimates rather than guaranteed outcomes?
  • Have you dated your notes so future move or ranking changes do not get mistaken for current results?

Bottom line for choosing Zoroark’s partner

Choose a teammate for what it lets Zoroark avoid, not for a headline ranking. Start with weakness coverage for Bug, Fairy and Fighting, add durability and a safe-switch route, then verify the complete team in PvPoke under the league, shield and move settings you will actually use. As of the October 2026 information cited here, no specific Pokémon or trio is established as the universal best partner, and Zoroark’s reported league positions do not support presenting it as a general-purpose pick.
