Start with the PS5 Game Preset that matches your priority: choose Performance Mode for smoother camera movement when Planet Zoo 2 exposes a compatible in-game option, or choose Resolution Mode for higher image quality when you are willing to accept heavier motion in a large, busy zoo. Frontier and Sony have not published a Planet Zoo 2 PS5 frame-rate target, output-resolution target, or named Performance/Quality toggle, so no honest guide can promise 30, 60 or 120 frames per second, native 4K, or a particular upscaling method.
The practical settings below use Sony’s documented PS5 trade-off and the controls that the game may expose in its current build. They are recommendations, not measured Planet Zoo 2 benchmarks. The title launched for PS5 on October 13, 2026, and its PlayStation Store listing marks it as PS5 Pro Enhanced without defining the technical benefit.
What is actually documented for Planet Zoo 2 on PS5
Planet Zoo 2 is a PS5 release from Frontier Developments PLC. Frontier’s May 28, 2026 announcement states: “Planet Zoo 2 will launch on PC, PlayStation®5, and Xbox Series X|S on 13 October 2026.” Sony’s US PlayStation Store listing gives the Standard Edition a $49.99 price and the same October 13, 2026 release date.
That official listing confirms the platform and labels the game PS5 Pro Enhanced. It does not explain whether the Pro enhancement is a higher resolution, steadier frame rate, improved image reconstruction, or a separate graphics mode. It also does not publish a target frame rate, output resolution, refresh-rate requirement, or a named Performance/Quality switch. Treat every numeric claim you see elsewhere as unverified unless Frontier adds it to a future technical note or an in-game menu.

Frontier describes aquatic and flying species, a deeper conservation focus and Wildlife Reserves. Those systems can make a large, populated zoo more visually and computationally demanding than a small exhibit, but the available official material contains no PS5 benchmark. The game’s performance can therefore vary with zoo size, guests, animals, scenery and simulation activity without there being a published threshold at which a particular mode is guaranteed to hold a given frame rate.
How the PS5 presets affect your choice
Sony’s PS5 support guidance describes the general behavior in plain terms: Performance Mode is intended to make game motion smoother, while Resolution Mode prioritizes higher graphic quality. The preset is a system-level preference; a game must support the corresponding option for it to have an effect. Planet Zoo 2’s current PS5 listing does not document exactly how it responds.

The table describes the documented trade-off, not a promise that both modes appear in every build. If Planet Zoo 2 shows only one option, the game is controlling the presentation itself and the PS5 preset cannot create an unlisted mode.

Use this profile when camera movement, menu response and the ability to pan across a crowded zoo matter more than maximum image detail.

- Open the PS5 preset menu. From the home screen, go to Settings > Saved Data and Game/App Settings > Game Presets.
- Select Performance Mode. This tells supported games to favor the smoother-motion behavior Sony documents. It does not force Planet Zoo 2 to a particular frame rate.
- Launch Planet Zoo 2 and inspect its graphics menu. If the current build offers a Performance, Frame Rate or similarly named choice, select the performance-oriented option. If no such control appears, leave the game at its default rather than assuming a hidden 60-FPS mode.
- Use a supported display refresh rate. Set the television or monitor to a refresh rate it actually supports. Do not enable a 120 Hz target on the assumption that Planet Zoo 2 renders at 120 FPS; Frontier has not published that target.
- Test the profile in a representative zoo. Pan through a quiet habitat, a guest-heavy central area and the busiest reserve you own. Your own observation is more useful than an internet number because no official PS5 benchmark exists.
- Change only controls the game exposes. If Planet Zoo 2 provides a detail, crowd or effects slider, lower one setting at a time and check the same busy area again. Do not infer that a PC-only option exists on PS5.
- Restart after a major session or patch if behavior degrades. Closing and reopening the application is a practical troubleshooting step, not a proven Planet Zoo 2 fix. Use it after a substantial update or unusually long play session so you can compare a clean launch with the previous state.
What this profile can and cannot promise
Performance Mode is the rational first choice for players who notice judder while rotating the camera or placing paths. It cannot guarantee a fixed frame rate, eliminate simulation slowdowns or make every zoo feel identical. A very large reserve can still become less responsive because the game is simulating more animals, guests, scenery and systems at once.
Best visual-quality-first settings
Choose this profile for close-up animal views, habitat photography and intricate building where fine detail matters more than the smoothest camera movement.
- Go to Settings > Saved Data and Game/App Settings > Game Presets on PS5.
- Select Resolution Mode if the console and the game expose that mode. Sony defines it as the higher-graphic-quality preference.
- Open Planet Zoo 2’s graphics options and select the quality-, resolution- or fidelity-oriented choice if one is available.
- Keep the display at a supported refresh rate. A higher television refresh capability does not establish a higher Planet Zoo 2 rendering target.
- Use this profile for screenshots, viewing feather or fur detail at close range and decorative construction. If panning begins to feel less fluid, switch the PS5 preset back to Performance Mode before a long management session.
Resolution Mode is a preference, not a promise of native 4K. The official PS5 listing does not state whether Planet Zoo 2 uses native rendering, dynamic resolution or an upscaling technique.

Why a large zoo can feel slower
Planet Zoo 2 combines a construction interface with an active simulation. Frontier highlights aquatic and flying species, Wildlife Reserves and a stronger conservation focus. A mature zoo can therefore contain more animals, guests, animated objects, habitat effects, buildings and path activity than a new sandbox map. More work for the simulation and renderer can make camera movement or cursor response feel heavier even when the console and display are functioning normally.

This explanation is about workload, not a measured performance result. No official source supplies a population count, resolution scale or frame-rate graph for PS5. The useful test is to compare the same camera move in a quiet habitat and in your busiest area:
- If only the dense area feels heavy, scene complexity is the likely variable.
- If every zoo and the PS5 menus feel slow, check the display, system software and controller response before changing graphics preferences.
- If the slowdown began immediately after an update, restart the game and verify that the patch finished installing before drawing conclusions.
PS5 Pro: what the enhancement label means
The PlayStation Store marks Planet Zoo 2 as PS5 Pro Enhanced. That is the complete technical information currently provided in the listing. “Enhanced” does not, by itself, specify 4K output, 60 FPS, 120 FPS, ray tracing, a separate Pro mode or a particular reconstruction method.
On a PS5 Pro, use the same decision process: start with Performance Mode for motion or Resolution Mode for image quality, then inspect any graphics option Planet Zoo 2 actually presents. If the menu contains a Pro-specific choice, its on-screen description is the authoritative behavior for your installed version. If it does not, the store badge alone is not evidence that a hidden setting exists.

Does Planet Zoo 2 run at 60 FPS on PS5?
There is no verified 60-FPS specification in the official PlayStation listing or Frontier announcement available for this release. Performance Mode is a recommendation for smoother motion based on Sony’s general preset guidance, not proof of a locked 60-FPS output. The same limitation applies to claims of 30 FPS, 120 FPS or a fixed frame rate in every zoo.

Your television’s information panel may report a signal refresh rate, but that reading does not prove the game’s internal frame rate. Without a published target or a documented test method from Frontier, describe the result as how the game feels on your display rather than as a guaranteed number.
What resolution does Planet Zoo 2 use?
Frontier and Sony have not published a PS5 output-resolution target for Planet Zoo 2. Resolution Mode means higher graphic quality in Sony’s general terminology; it does not establish native 4K. The game could use a dynamic or reconstructed image, but the available official material does not identify the method. Keep your console and display on their normal supported settings and choose the in-game preference that matches your priority.
PC graphics notes that do not transfer to PS5
A Planet Zoo 2 Steam Community update reports “Various performance and stability improvements” and says “FSR and DLSS should now function correctly when selected in the Graphics menu.” That note is platform-specific to PC. It confirms that those technologies are mentioned for the PC build; it does not prove that FSR, DLSS or equivalent controls exist on PS5. Do not search for a console toggle that the PS5 version does not expose, and do not use the PC note as evidence of a console resolution or frame-rate target.

- Confirm the correct input. Make sure the television or monitor is showing the PS5 input rather than an alternate device with a different picture preset.
- Use a supported refresh setting. Select the display mode your screen documents. A 120 Hz-capable panel is useful only when the game and console output actually support that signal.
- Install the current game and system updates. The PC update demonstrates that Frontier continues to issue performance and stability changes, but it does not define what a PS5 patch contains.
- Compare after a cold relaunch. Close Planet Zoo 2, start it again and revisit the same zoo area. Record what changed instead of switching several settings simultaneously.
- Check controller and menu behavior separately. If the PS5 home screen or another game also feels delayed, the issue is unlikely to be a Planet Zoo 2 graphics preference.
Troubleshooting by symptom
The camera feels uneven in every zoo
Set the PS5 Game Preset to Performance Mode, choose the game’s performance-oriented option if present and relaunch. Verify that the display is using a supported refresh rate. If the sensation remains across other games, investigate the display or console rather than assuming Planet Zoo 2 has a universal frame-rate defect.

Only one enormous zoo feels heavy
Keep the performance profile, then test a quieter area of the same zoo. If the difference follows the crowded scene, reduce any in-game detail control that Planet Zoo 2 actually offers and avoid changing several settings at once. Save, close and reopen the application after a major patch or unusually long session so you can make a clean comparison.
Animals look less detailed after choosing Performance Mode
That is the expected trade-off when a supported game favors motion. Switch to Resolution Mode for close viewing or screenshots. Because the title does not publish a resolution target, do not label the result as a specific 4K or 1080p output.
A menu option mentioned online is missing
Check whether the instructions describe the PC build. The Steam update’s FSR and DLSS references are not evidence of PS5 controls. Console menus can differ by platform and patch, so use the labels shown in your installed PS5 version.
The PS5 Pro badge does not change anything I can see
The store badge is an enhancement designation, not a detailed specification. Look for an in-game Pro description or a patch note from Frontier. In the absence of one, continue using the Performance-versus-Resolution choice that best matches your preference.

The correct setting is the one that feels best in your zoo and on your display; it is not possible to attach an honest FPS or 4K guarantee to either choice from the specifications currently published by Frontier and Sony.
