There is no official PC upgrade target for GTA 6 yet. Rockstar’s current Grand Theft Auto VI platform page lists PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X|S, with a November 19, 2026 release date, but no PC version or PC system requirements. The sensible approach is to inspect your computer, fix limitations you can identify in the games you play now, and wait for Rockstar’s PC requirements before making an expensive upgrade solely for GTA 6.
This guide shows exactly what to check, which upgrades can make sense for current PC gaming, and which GTA V Enhanced specifications are useful context without treating them as GTA 6 predictions.
What is officially known about GTA 6 on PC?
As of the Rockstar platform information checked October 13, 2026, Grand Theft Auto VI is announced for PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X|S. Rockstar gives November 19, 2026 as the release date on that page. It does not list Windows, a PC edition, PC hardware requirements, or a PC release date.
Take-Two Interactive Software’s June 24, 2026 release announcement also describes the November 19, 2026 launch for those consoles. Neither source supplies a graphics-card target, processor class, memory amount, storage requirement, or power-supply recommendation for a PC build.

| Question | What the official information establishes |
|---|---|
| Is a PC version listed? | No PC version appears on the Rockstar platform page checked October 13, 2026. |
| Which platforms are listed? | PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X|S. |
| When is the listed launch? | November 19, 2026. |
| Are PC system requirements available? | No official GTA VI PC requirements were found in the Rockstar and Take-Two sources reviewed. |
| What GPU, CPU, RAM and storage should you buy? | No GTA VI-specific target has been published, so no component can honestly be called “GTA 6-ready.” |
That uncertainty matters. A graphics card that looks powerful on an online prediction table may be a poor purchase if the eventual PC port has different performance characteristics, a later release window, or requirements that depend heavily on resolution and frame rate. Trailers, console specifications, GTA V Enhanced requirements and unsourced “leaks” cannot establish a GTA VI PC target.
What to do before buying any component
Start with an inventory, not a shopping list. Rockstar’s support instructions recommend the Windows dxdiag diagnostic tool.
- Press
Windows key + R, enterdxdiag, and select OK. If Windows asks whether to check digitally signed drivers, choose Yes so the report can include driver information. - On the System tab, record the Windows version, processor model and installed memory. The tool also shows the system manufacturer and model, which can help identify a prebuilt computer.
- Open the Display tab (or the relevant Display 1/Display 2 tab on a multi-GPU system). Record the graphics-card name, approximate video memory and driver details.
- Save the report with Save All Information if you need to share the inventory with a technician. Remove serial numbers or other identifying details before posting it publicly.
- Separately check free storage, the type of drive (hard disk or SSD), the power-supply model and wattage, case clearance, monitor resolution and refresh rate. These details are not all shown in the same dxdiag screen but determine whether an upgrade will fit and work.
Also note what actually limits your current games. A game that stays near 99% GPU utilization while the processor has headroom is a graphics bottleneck. A game with a saturated CPU, inconsistent frame pacing or a low GPU utilization can point to a processor or platform limit. Stuttering caused by a nearly full drive, overheating or background software is not automatically solved by buying a faster GPU.

Use the following questions for every proposed part:
- What problem does it solve now? Identify a game, resolution, frame-rate target or workload that your current system cannot meet.
- Is the limitation measured? Check in-game overlays, frame-time graphs, temperatures and utilization rather than relying on a model number alone.
- Will it work with the existing system? Confirm motherboard socket and firmware support, memory type, PCIe slot availability, power connectors, case dimensions and cooling.
- Does it match the monitor? A card intended for high-refresh 1440p has different value from one bought for 4K or a 60 Hz display.
- What is the complete cost? Include a motherboard, memory kit, power supply, cooler, storage, operating-system setup or adapters if the selected part requires them.
- Is the purchase useful if GTA VI arrives later or remains console-only? Prioritize benefits you will use in current games, creative applications or other workloads.
GPU upgrades: wait for GTA VI requirements, buy for current games
The GPU is often the largest factor in rendering performance, but there is no official GTA VI PC target against which to choose one. If GTA 6 is the sole reason for an expensive graphics-card purchase, waiting for Rockstar’s PC announcement is the lowest-risk decision.
When a GPU upgrade makes sense now
- Your current games cannot hold your chosen frame rate at your monitor’s native resolution, even after sensible settings adjustments.
- Measured GPU utilization is consistently high while frame times and temperatures are within normal limits, indicating the card is the limiting component.
- You need more video memory for the texture settings, mods or applications you use today.
- You are moving from integrated graphics or an older entry-level card and have a broad library of current games to play.
How to compare candidate cards
Compare performance at your target resolution and frame rate, not by a “GTA 6” label. Check the card’s physical length and thickness, required power connectors, board power, video-memory capacity, display outputs and support for the features your current games use. A card that fits the case but exceeds the power supply’s capability is not a completed upgrade.

A CPU or platform replacement can improve minimum frame rates, simulation-heavy games and background multitasking, but it is not possible to specify a GTA VI processor from the information currently available.
Signs the CPU may be the bottleneck
- One or more CPU threads are heavily loaded while the GPU is waiting, especially at lower resolutions or high refresh rates.
- Frame-time spikes persist after graphics settings are reduced.
- Simulation-heavy or open-world games perform poorly even though the graphics card is not fully utilized.
- Your current processor lacks features or operating-system support required by the games and software you actually run.
Compatibility checks before changing the CPU
- Identify the exact motherboard model and socket, not just the computer’s brand or processor family.
- Check the motherboard manufacturer’s supported-CPU list and minimum firmware version.
- Confirm whether the existing memory generation and speed are supported by the replacement platform.
- Verify cooler mounting, cooler capacity and case airflow.
- Calculate the complete platform cost. A new CPU can require a motherboard and memory, making it a much larger project than a drop-in graphics-card replacement.
Do not replace a motherboard or processor because a rumor says GTA VI will need a certain core count. Replace the platform when a measured present-day limitation and verified compatibility justify it.
RAM: use your current workload, not a guessed GTA VI number
There is no official GTA VI memory requirement. Do not present 16 GB, 32 GB or any other amount as a GTA 6 requirement.
Check the installed capacity and configuration in Windows, then observe memory use while running the games and applications you care about. Frequent paging to disk, severe hitching when several applications are open, or a clearly documented requirement from a current game can justify adding memory. Match the motherboard’s memory type, slot layout and supported speeds; mixing kits can reduce stability or prevent the advertised profile from working.

Capacity is only one part of the decision. Dual-channel operation, adequate speed for the platform and a stable configuration can matter more than buying the largest number on the package. If a platform change is already planned, price the memory as part of that platform rather than buying a kit that may not carry over.

Storage: the one upgrade with an immediate general gaming use case
An internal SSD is a defensible upgrade for a gaming PC that still uses a hard drive or lacks enough fast space for current games. It can reduce load times and improve general responsiveness, but no SSD capacity, interface or model has been confirmed for GTA VI.
What Rockstar specifies for GTA V Enhanced
Rockstar’s PC requirements page, last updated December 10, 2025, covers Grand Theft Auto V Enhanced, not GTA VI. Its minimum and recommended entries are:
| Component | GTA V Enhanced minimum | GTA V Enhanced recommended |
|---|---|---|
| Operating system | Windows 10, build 1909 or above | Windows 11 |
| Processor | Intel Core i7-4770 or AMD FX-9590 | Intel Core i5-9600K or AMD Ryzen 5 3600 |
| Memory | 8 GB RAM | 16 GB dual-channel RAM |
| Graphics | NVIDIA GeForce GTX 1630 with 4 GB VRAM or AMD Radeon RX 6400 with 4 GB VRAM | NVIDIA GeForce RTX 3060 with 8 GB VRAM or AMD Radeon RX 6600 XT with 8 GB VRAM |
| Storage | 105 GB SSD | 105 GB DirectStorage-compatible drive |
These are Rockstar Games specifications for GTA V Enhanced as published in 2025. They are not estimates for GTA VI. Rockstar also notes that requirements can change over time because of downloadable content and programming changes.
Choosing an SSD for a real need
- Confirm whether your motherboard has an available M.2 slot or whether a 2.5-inch SATA drive is the practical option.
- Check the case’s mounting points, motherboard documentation and any lane-sharing limits that could disable another slot or port.
- Leave sufficient free space for the operating system, updates and the games you play; do not treat the 105 GB GTA V Enhanced figure as a GTA VI capacity forecast.
- Plan the installation: clone the existing drive, reinstall Windows, or use the new drive as a dedicated game library.
- Back up saves and important files before changing drives.
If you are buying an internal SSD for a gaming PC or an SSD upgrade for an older PC, the purchase can be justified by today’s load times and capacity needs. The cited 105 GB SSD minimum and 105 GB DirectStorage-compatible recommendation apply only to GTA V Enhanced; Rockstar has not confirmed that GTA VI will require an SSD or any particular drive size.
Power supply and cooling: replace only when the system proves it needs it
No GTA VI-specific wattage, connector or cooling guidance has been published. Avoid selecting a power supply by an invented GTA 6 target.
When a power-supply replacement is necessary
- The chosen GPU exceeds the existing unit’s continuous capacity or lacks the required connectors.
- The current unit is damaged, unusually noisy, unstable under load or from an unsuitable design for a modern high-power component.
- The system has insufficient headroom after calculating the CPU, GPU and other components together.
Use the exact GPU and CPU specifications, the power-supply label and the manufacturer’s guidance. Do not assume that a higher wattage alone means better quality; platform design, protections, efficiency and connector compatibility also matter.

When cooling is the real problem
Monitor CPU and GPU temperatures, clock speeds and fan behavior during a repeatable workload. If clocks fall as temperatures rise, clean dust filters, improve airflow, reseat the cooler or replace inadequate cooling before concluding that a faster component is required. A new cooler may also require a compatible mounting kit and enough case clearance.
Upgrade paths for common PC situations
You have a hard drive and limited free space
Prioritize an internal SSD after checking the motherboard or case interface, then use it for Windows and frequently played games. This improves the current machine without pretending to solve an unknown GTA VI requirement.
You have an older graphics card but a capable CPU
Measure GPU-limited games at your monitor’s resolution. A graphics-card upgrade can be sensible for current titles, provided the power supply, case and cooling support it. Keep the purchase independent of an unannounced GTA VI target.
You have an older four-core or low-end processor
Check CPU frame-time behavior in the games you play. If the processor is limiting performance, compare a compatible drop-in CPU with the cost of a new motherboard, memory and cooler. Do not assume an expensive platform replacement will improve a workload that is actually GPU-bound.
You have 8 GB of memory
Observe paging and memory pressure in your current games and multitasking routine. Add a compatible matched kit when present-day use demonstrates a shortage; do not describe 16 GB as a GTA VI requirement merely because Rockstar recommends 16 GB for GTA V Enhanced.

What not to use as a GTA 6 upgrade checklist
- GTA V Enhanced requirements: useful only for GTA V Enhanced, with the 2025 version label attached.
- Console hardware comparisons: console specifications do not translate directly into an equivalent PC graphics card, processor or memory requirement.
- Trailer analysis: visual footage does not reveal the final PC settings, optimization, frame-rate targets or scalability options.
- Prediction tables without an official source: these are guesses, not purchase recommendations.
- A single “bottleneck calculator” result: synthetic estimates cannot replace measurements from the games and monitor target you actually use.
When to revisit this guide
Check Rockstar’s official platform and support pages again after a PC version is announced. Look for an explicit PC release date, minimum and recommended configurations, supported Windows versions, storage type and capacity, graphics APIs, required driver versions and any stated upscaling or ray-tracing expectations. Then compare those requirements with the dxdiag inventory you saved.
At that point, separate minimum from recommended hardware and account for your own target: resolution, refresh rate, visual settings, mods and background applications. A published minimum is not a promise of a particular frame rate, and a recommended specification may describe a reference experience rather than every possible quality setting.
Bottom line for buying today
There is no evidence-based GTA 6 PC shopping list yet. Rockstar lists the November 19, 2026 launch for PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X|S, and no official PC requirements were available in the sources checked. Use dxdiag to document your system, identify a measured limitation in current games, and upgrade the component that fixes that limitation. An SSD is a reasonable general-purpose purchase when you need faster storage or more capacity; CPU, GPU, RAM, power-supply and cooling changes should each be tied to a demonstrated need and verified compatibility. Save a GTA VI-specific upgrade decision for the day Rockstar publishes PC hardware requirements.
