There is no evidence-based universal “best preset” for Gears of War: E-Day. The reliable approach is to verify that your PC meets the current requirements, install the game on a compatible SSD, run the built-in benchmark, and change one graphics or upscaling option at a time while comparing measured performance, image quality, frame pacing, and responsiveness. The game launched on October 6, 2026, and Steam warns that its requirements can change, so treat the following as a tuning method rather than a promised preset or FPS result.
Check whether your PC meets E-Day’s published requirements
Steam’s listing, checked on October 13, 2026, gives two hardware tiers. Both require DirectX 12, an SSD, and 115 GB of available storage. The alternatives in each row are component options, not a guarantee that every listed processor or graphics card delivers the same performance at the same resolution. The listing also says specifications may change.
| Tier | Processor | Memory | Graphics processor | Operating system | Other requirements |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| Minimum | AMD Ryzen 5 2600X, Intel Core i7-6850K, or Intel Core i5-10400 | 12 GB | Ray-tracing-capable GPU: NVIDIA RTX 5050, RTX 2060, AMD RX 6600, or AMD RX 9060 | Windows 10 64-bit 22H 19045.7291 | DirectX 12, SSD, 115 GB available |
| Recommended | AMD Ryzen 5 5600 or Intel Core i5-11600K | 16 GB | NVIDIA RTX 5060, RTX 3060 Ti, AMD RX 6700 XT, or AMD RX 9060 XT | Windows 11 64-bit 25H2 or newer | DirectX 12, SSD, 115 GB available |
Meeting the minimum row means the game is within the published support envelope; it does not define a particular resolution, quality preset, or frame rate. If your system falls below it, settings changes alone cannot turn that configuration into a tested, supported target. Compare your exact CPU and GPU model, installed memory, operating-system build, ray-tracing capability, and storage before spending time on graphics sliders.

Use an SSD with enough free capacity
An SSD and 115 GB of free space are requirements, not optional performance tweaks. The official beta FAQ published on August 3, 2026, warned that hard-disk drives were unsupported and could lead to long loading, missing assets, stutter, or crashes. That was beta guidance rather than a measured FPS comparison, so do not describe moving the installation to an SSD as a guaranteed frame-rate increase. It is a compatibility and asset-streaming prerequisite.

Leave additional room for the operating system, shader data, updates, and other applications instead of filling the drive to its limit. If the launcher reports insufficient space, free capacity or choose another compatible SSD before diagnosing graphics performance.
Confirm Windows and DirectX versions
Check Settings > System > About for your Windows edition and build, and confirm that the system can run DirectX 12. The minimum listing specifies Windows 10 64-bit build 22H 19045.7291; the recommended tier specifies Windows 11 64-bit 25H2 or newer. An operating-system version below the published target can cause compatibility problems that a lower visual preset will not solve.
Install a current graphics driver
Use the current driver supplied for your NVIDIA, AMD, or Intel GPU and read its release notes for game-specific fixes. The beta FAQ’s dated driver advice should not be treated as a current version recommendation. If an update changes behavior, record the driver version with your benchmark results so you can compare like with like.

Check Resizable BAR on Intel Arc systems
The beta FAQ reported that Intel Arc A580 and B580 performance could be significantly reduced when Resizable BAR was disabled. This is historical troubleshooting information, not a universal instruction to change firmware settings blindly. Check your motherboard and Intel documentation for the current Resizable BAR requirements, enable it only through supported firmware settings, and retest after any change.
Determine whether Advanced Shader Delivery applies
Microsoft’s DirectX Developer Blog reported on October 1, 2026, that Advanced Shader Delivery (ASD) reduces shader compilation time by approximately 95 percent on supported setups. ASD precompiles shaders with the game download, reducing the amount of shader work the CPU performs when the game starts. That figure concerns compilation time, not gameplay FPS.

Microsoft says ASD requires Windows 11 24H2 or higher, compatible hardware and drivers, and instructs players to install the Xbox PC app before downloading in order to experience ASD for the game. If your system or distribution does not meet those conditions, do not assume ASD is active. A shorter first-launch compilation phase and less shader-related startup stutter are separate from the frame rate produced during a match.
Build a trustworthy baseline with the built-in benchmark
Steam advertises a built-in benchmark. Use it as a repeatable reference rather than judging performance from a single busy scene or the first minute after loading.
Do these 3 things before closing this tab:
1Clear out junk files and repair common Windows errors2Scan for outdated or missing drivers - takes under a minute3Repair Windows errors before they cause bigger problems- Choose the outcome first. Select the display resolution you actually intend to use and a realistic frame-rate goal for that display. Keep the goal fixed while you test settings.
- Set a neutral starting configuration. Record the resolution, quality preset or individual values, upscaling mode, frame-generation state, driver version, and operating-system build. Do not change several options before the first run.
- Run the benchmark under the same conditions. Use the same resolution, window mode, power profile, and background workload for each comparison. Let the run finish and note its average and low frame-rate results, frame pacing, and any visible hitching.
- Capture image quality as well as numbers. Look for shimmering, reconstruction artifacts, softness, disocclusion errors, or distracting motion changes. A higher displayed number is not automatically a better result if the image or controls feel worse.
- Change one variable. Alter one resolution, upscaling, frame-generation, Variable Rate Shading, or quality option, then run the benchmark again. If you change multiple settings, you cannot tell which one caused the result.
- Keep the better trade-off. Retain a change only when it moves you toward the frame-rate goal without unacceptable image-quality or responsiveness costs. If it does not, restore the previous value and test a different variable.
This is a practical measurement procedure, not an official tested recipe. The published material does not identify a universally most expensive setting or provide comparative results for every GPU, resolution, and patch.
Adjust settings in an order that preserves image quality
1. Set resolution and decide whether reconstruction is acceptable
Native resolution gives the display its full pixel detail but may demand more rendering work. If the baseline misses your target, test a supported upscaler at the same output resolution before abandoning that target. Compare the reconstructed image during motion, not only in a static screenshot. If the result is visibly unstable, return to the previous mode and use a lower output resolution or another supported quality level.
2. Compare DLSS 4.5 and AMD FSR Redstone only on compatible hardware
Steam lists NVIDIA DLSS 4.5 and AMD FSR “Redstone” among the game’s features. They are not interchangeable options for every graphics card. Select the mode intended for your GPU, benchmark it at your target resolution, and compare both the measured average and low frame rates and the resulting image. The store listing does not promise identical support, quality, or performance across all cards.

3. Test Frame Generation and Multi Frame Generation separately
Optional Frame Generation and Multi Frame Generation are advertised for supported hardware. Treat the number of displayed frames separately from the number of conventionally rendered frames: generated frames can change what the display reports without proving that the game’s underlying simulation or input response improved. Check whether controls remain responsive and whether motion artifacts are acceptable, then compare the benchmark and actual gameplay at your chosen resolution. Do not enable either feature merely because its counter produces a larger number.
4. Evaluate Variable Rate Shading as an experiment
Variable Rate Shading is another listed feature. Its usefulness depends on hardware support and the scene. Toggle it while keeping every other setting unchanged, then compare image detail in areas with fine geometry and the benchmark’s frame pacing. Keep it enabled only if the visual compromise is acceptable for your target.
5. Handle ray tracing and other quality categories one at a time
The minimum and recommended specifications both require a ray-tracing-capable GPU, but the published sources do not rank ray tracing, shadows, textures, or post-processing by performance cost. If the game exposes those controls, test each individually instead of applying a supposed universal low or high preset. Record the result at the resolution and frame-rate goal you actually use; a setting that is tolerable at one resolution can be a poor trade-off at another.
6. Choose a frame-rate policy deliberately
Steam advertises uncapped frame rates on capable hardware. An uncapped result can be useful when you are measuring the system’s ceiling, but your play target should be based on stable frame pacing and your display’s capabilities. Compare average and low results rather than chasing a brief peak, and retest after changing any upscaling or frame-generation mode.
Use a hardware-tier decision framework
| Your situation | Useful first decision | What the published data cannot promise |
|---|---|---|
| Below one or more minimum requirements | Fix the missing prerequisite first: supported GPU, CPU, memory, Windows build, DirectX 12, SSD, or free capacity. | A lower preset cannot be treated as a supported solution or assigned a guaranteed frame rate. |
| Meets minimum but not recommended | Choose the intended resolution and benchmark it. Test compatible upscaling before changing several quality controls. | The minimum row does not specify a resolution, preset, average FPS, or low FPS. |
| Matches the recommended row | Start at the desired output resolution, establish a baseline, and compare supported DLSS, FSR, VRS, and frame-generation options individually. | Recommended hardware is not a promise of a particular result after a future patch or driver update. |
| Well above recommended | Measure native rendering first, then evaluate optional Frame Generation, Multi Frame Generation, VRS, and uncapped output against image quality and responsiveness. | High-end features still require compatible hardware and display support; no universal maximum-quality setting is published. |
Troubleshoot the symptom instead of lowering everything
The first launch spends a long time compiling shaders
Shader compilation is not the same as low in-game FPS. Verify whether your system meets Microsoft’s ASD conditions: Windows 11 24H2 or newer, supported hardware and drivers, and the Xbox PC app installed before downloading as Microsoft instructs. If ASD is unavailable, allow the game’s normal compilation process to complete and compare later launches separately from gameplay benchmarks.

Loading stalls, missing assets, crashes, or severe hitching occur
Confirm that the installation is on an SSD with at least the required 115 GB free. The beta FAQ specifically associated unsupported HDD installations with loading, missing-asset, stutter, and crash problems. Also verify the game files through your platform and retest after current operating-system and GPU-driver updates. Do not infer from this symptom that an SSD alone raises average FPS.
Frame rate is low even though the PC appears to qualify
Recheck the exact GPU and CPU against the two published rows, the selected resolution, and whether ray-tracing capability is present. Run the benchmark with a recorded baseline, then test one variable at a time. Compare low-frame results and pacing, not only the average. If an upscaler or frame-generation option is unavailable, that may reflect hardware or display compatibility rather than a missing menu setting.
The frame counter rises but controls or image quality feel worse
Separate conventionally rendered frames from generated display frames. Disable Frame Generation or Multi Frame Generation for a controlled comparison, run the same benchmark, and judge responsiveness and artifacts as well as the counter. Keep the mode only when its complete trade-off suits your use.
Intel Arc performance is unexpectedly poor
For Arc A580 or B580 hardware, check Resizable BAR in the motherboard firmware and follow current Intel and motherboard documentation. The beta FAQ warned about a significant performance reduction with ReBAR disabled, but its dated beta driver recommendations should not be copied as current requirements.
Quick wins for a faster PC:
Fix the driver behind crashes, sound loss and screen glitchesFind Drivers →Clear out junk files and repair common Windows errorsFree Scan →A patch or driver changes the result
Steam’s listing warns that requirements may change, and hardware availability, drivers, and game patches are volatile. Save your benchmark notes with the game version and driver version, rerun the baseline after a major update, and avoid treating an older run as proof that a setting still behaves identically.

Decide whether an upgrade is justified
SSD upgrade
An SSD is the clearest prerequisite because Steam requires it and 115 GB of available space. Match the drive’s interface and capacity to your motherboard and leave room for updates. The requirement supports installation reliability and asset delivery; it does not establish an FPS gain.
Graphics-card upgrade
If your GPU is below the minimum row or lacks ray-tracing capability, a graphics upgrade addresses a published compatibility gap. If it already meets minimum or recommended specifications, choose an upgrade only after measuring the resolution and quality trade-off you need. The available requirements do not identify a single “best” card or guarantee a particular frame rate for any model.
Processor and memory upgrade
Compare your CPU and RAM with the listed rows before attributing every hitch to the GPU. Moving from below 12 GB to at least the minimum memory, or toward the recommended 16 GB, addresses the published capacity targets. The table does not establish how much FPS an individual CPU or memory upgrade adds, so benchmark before and after rather than relying on a generic percentage.
What the official information does not establish
No reviewed official source ranks individual settings such as textures, shadows, ray tracing, or post-processing by cost across hardware tiers. There is also no universal preset, tested FPS gain, or one-size-fits-all resolution recommendation. A defensible configuration is therefore the one you can reproduce on your own PC: it meets the current requirements, runs from the required SSD, reaches your chosen target in the built-in benchmark, and preserves acceptable image quality, frame pacing, and responsiveness.
