For a minimum-spec PC, start with Low graphics at 1080p and a 30 FPS target. For a PC that meets the recommended specs, start with High at 1080p and a 60 FPS target. Those are Capcom’s published targets, not guarantees: demanding scenes can still cause frame-rate drops. If performance is unstable, Capcom advises lowering graphics to Low or Medium.
Start with the PC your system can sustain
Monster Hunter Stories 3 has two official PC targets, both at 1080p. Use the one that matches your hardware as a starting point, then adjust based on stability rather than assuming a preset will perform identically on every PC.
| Starting point | Processor and graphics card | Graphics target | Frame-rate target |
|---|---|---|---|
| Minimum specs | Intel Core i3-9100 or AMD Ryzen 3 3200G; NVIDIA GTX 1660 (6 GB) or AMD RX 5500 XT (8 GB) | Low at 1080p | 30 FPS |
| Recommended specs | Intel Core i5-10400 or AMD Ryzen 5 3600; NVIDIA RTX 2060 Super (8 GB) or AMD RX 5700 XT (8 GB) | High at 1080p | 60 FPS |
Steam also lists Windows 11 64-bit, 16 GB RAM, DirectX 12, and 50 GB of storage; an SSD is recommended. See the Steam system requirements. Steam cautions that frame rates may fall in graphics-intensive scenes, so treat either target as a baseline rather than a promise.
Choose resolution and graphics settings
For a minimum-spec PC
Begin at 1080p with Low graphics and a 30 FPS target. If that combination remains stable and you want more detail, try Medium and check performance in demanding scenes before keeping the change. If frame rate becomes uneven, return to Low.
#1 Best Overall
- Compatible with Windows and Android.
- 1000Hz Polling Rate (for 2.4G and wired connection)
- Hall Effect joysticks and Hall triggers. Wear-resistant metal joystick rings.
- Extra R4/L4 bumpers. Custom button mapping without using software. Turbo function.
- Refined bumpers and D-pad. Light but tactile.
For a recommended-spec PC
Begin at 1080p, High, and a 60 FPS target. If the game cannot hold a steady frame rate, lower the graphics preset or choose a frame-rate limit your PC can sustain. A consistent cap can be preferable to frequent swings between higher and lower frame rates.
If image quality matters more than a high refresh rate
Try your display’s native resolution and the highest graphics preset that remains stable. If you need to make a trade-off, consider lowering the frame-rate target before broadly reducing image quality. This is a practical tuning approach, not a measured guarantee for every PC.

If responsiveness matters more
Choose a frame-rate limit your system can hold consistently. When performance remains unstable, lower graphics to Medium or Low, following Capcom’s guidance. The official targets are at 1080p; they do not establish one best resolution for every monitor or hardware configuration.

Steam Deck settings are a separate case
One Steam Deck HQ review of the PC version reports using 1280×720, High graphics, AMD FSR at Balanced, and a 30 FPS limit. The reviewer says the setup generally maintained 30 FPS but had occasional stutter in battle animations and brief slowdowns during cutscenes or scene changes. The review used 1280×720 because 1280×800 was not supported in its test. This is one reviewer’s configuration, not a desktop recommendation or a performance guarantee. Read the Steam Deck HQ review.

Pick controls for comfort
An independent review describes the PC version as designed with controllers first. A controller is an option if that suits how you prefer to play, but the available information does not establish that one is required or identify a best model. It also does not document keyboard remapping details. Choose based on comfort; changing controls is not a graphics-performance fix.

- Software may be out of date: Update your graphics drivers and Windows.
How to judge whether a setting change helped
Compare settings in the same kinds of scenes rather than relying on a single quiet area. Pay attention to whether demanding battles or scene changes cause dips, whether a lower output resolution or upscaling makes the image too soft, and whether the frame rate stays consistent enough for you. No controlled, exhaustive comparison of every PC setting is established here, so tune in small steps and keep the configuration that works on your machine.
