Forza Motorsport is the best first PC choice for a Gran Turismo Sport-style mix of licensed cars, circuit racing and approachable realism. Pick Assetto Corsa Competizione for serious GT3/GT4 simulation, Automobilista 2 for the broadest range of cars and race conditions, Assetto Corsa for mods, iRacing for organised online competition, or Le Mans Ultimate for WEC and endurance racing.
No PC game reproduces every part of Gran Turismo Sport. The right substitute depends on whether you value an accessible controller experience, one racing discipline, varied single-player events, extensive modding or a structured online service.
What makes a PC racing game feel like Gran Turismo Sport?
Gran Turismo Sport combines licensed production and race cars with closed-circuit competition, a handling model that can be learned on a controller, and enough simulation detail to reward a wheel. Its appeal is broader than a pure professional simulator: you can enjoy short races, tune cars and gradually move toward more demanding driving without needing specialist hardware on day one.
Use these criteria when comparing PC alternatives:
- Handling accessibility: whether a game remains controllable with a pad or expects a calibrated wheel and pedals.
- Car and discipline focus: a broad road-car roster, a dedicated GT3/GT4 championship, historic machinery, open-wheel cars or endurance prototypes.
- Progression: career, championships, licences, events and other reasons to keep driving offline.
- Online structure: casual lobbies, ranked races, scheduled series, safety ratings and matchmaking.
- Race conditions: weather changes, time-of-day transitions, night racing and long-distance events.
- Community content: official downloadable content versus user-created cars, circuits and visual tools.
- Cost model: a conventional game purchase, optional content or an ongoing subscription with separately purchased cars and tracks.
The recommendations below are intentionally different rather than interchangeable. A focused GT simulator can be a better match than a larger game if you know which part of Gran Turismo Sport you actually want to preserve.

Best overall: Forza Motorsport
Why it is the closest accessible substitute
Forza Motorsport is the strongest starting point for PC players who want licensed cars and circuit racing without immediately committing to a specialist simulator. It is commonly classified as a simcade game: its physics and assists provide meaningful realism, but the default experience is approachable enough for a controller and short sessions.
The large car roster and circuit focus make it the most natural fit for a Gran Turismo-style garage. You can begin with driving aids and a gamepad, then reduce assists or move to a wheel as your technique improves. That progression is important: the game does not require you to buy a full simulator rig before you can enjoy competitive laps.
Who should choose it
- Players moving from console-style racing to PC who still want immediate controller support.
- Drivers who prefer a broad selection of licensed cars instead of one championship.
- Anyone who wants structured circuit races but does not need highly specialised endurance procedures.
Where it is less specialised
Forza Motorsport is not the strongest choice if your priority is authentic GT3/GT4 race procedure, a subscription-based licence ladder, or a huge library of community-made tracks. Those needs point to ACC, iRacing or Assetto Corsa instead. Treat Forza as the broad, accessible baseline rather than the most technically exact simulator.

What it simulates
Assetto Corsa Competizione is the official GT World Challenge videogame. It models the series’ drivers, teams, cars and circuits and is built around modern GT3 and GT4 competition rather than a general-purpose road-car collection.
The simulation covers tyre behaviour, aerodynamics, brakes, ABS, traction control, electronic systems and mechanical damage. Laser-scanned circuits, dynamic weather and night racing make a long event feel materially different from a short daytime sprint. The result is a game that rewards consistent braking, managing tyre grip and learning race strategy.
Modes and progression
ACC includes career, championship, free-play and ranked multiplayer modes. Its event types include Sprint and Endurance races, including the Spa 24 Hours format. Career and championship structures give solo players a clear path, while ranked multiplayer supplies a more formal competitive environment than an unstructured lobby.

- Powerful Pass-Through Charging: Supports up to 85W pass-through charging so you can power up your laptop while you use the hub. Note: Pass-through charging requires a charger (not included). Note: To achieve full power for iPad, we recommend using a 45W wall charger.
- Transfer Files in Seconds: Move files to and from your laptop at speeds of up to 5 Gbps via the USB-C and USB-A data ports. Note: The USB C 5Gbps Data port does not support video output.
- HD Display: Connect to the HDMI port to stream or mirror content to an external monitor in resolutions of up to 4K@30Hz. Note: The USB-C ports do not support video output.
- What You Get: Anker 332 USB-C Hub (5-in-1), welcome guide, our worry-free 18-month warranty, and friendly customer service.
Hardware and learning curve
A controller can work, but the detailed tyre, brake and electronic models are easier to read with a force-feedback wheel and pedals. Expect a steeper learning curve than Forza: correct steering inputs, braking points and tyre temperatures matter more, and driving aids should be adjusted deliberately rather than left at an arbitrary setting.
Best fit
Choose ACC when “like Gran Turismo Sport” means realistic GT racing, official-style cars and circuits, and serious sprint or endurance events. It is a narrower game than a broad car-collection racer, but that focus is its advantage.
Best variety, AI, weather and VR: Automobilista 2
A broad simulator rather than one championship
Automobilista 2 is the most versatile recommendation for a player who wants to change disciplines regularly. Its PC simulation supports many racing categories and lets you build custom race weekends instead of staying inside one GT championship.
That variety is useful when your interests extend beyond modern sports cars. You can move between different vehicle types, track styles and event formats while retaining a consistent simulator framework. The game is also noted for capable AI, dynamic weather and VR support, giving solo players several ways to create challenging races.
Why it suits solo drivers
AI is a central reason to choose Automobilista 2. You can specify the grid, session format and conditions for a race weekend without waiting for an online field. Weather and changing light add strategic decisions, particularly when a dry track becomes wet or visibility changes during a longer event.

The breadth can feel less curated than a dedicated GT title. If you want every menu and event to reinforce one real-world series, ACC is more coherent. If you want many categories, custom grids, AI opponents and VR, Automobilista 2 is the stronger match.

Best for mods and experimentation: Assetto Corsa
What the community adds
The original Assetto Corsa remains one of the most flexible PC racing platforms because of its extensive community content. Modders have created additional cars, circuits, public roads, graphical upgrades and supporting tools. That ecosystem can turn the base simulator into a tightly focused GT collection, a historic racing catalogue or an open-road driving sandbox.
How to approach the mod ecosystem
- Install and configure the base game and verify that its controls and graphics work before adding content.
- Add cars and tracks from reputable community sources one at a time so you can identify conflicts.
- Keep a separate record of installed versions and dependencies, particularly for visual or weather tools.
- Test a new car on a familiar circuit before using it in a large championship or online session.
Community content is also the main caution. Quality, physics accuracy, installation methods and ongoing support vary. Unlike a curated official roster, a mod may require manual updates or additional tools, and online servers generally require every participant to have matching files.
Who should choose it
Choose Assetto Corsa if experimentation matters more than a polished, fixed career path. It is ideal for players who enjoy discovering unusual cars and locations, adjusting graphics, or building their own event library. For a ready-made modern GT championship, ACC requires less configuration.
Quick wins for a faster PC:
Repair Windows errors before they cause bigger problemsFix Now →Scan for outdated or missing drivers - takes under a minuteDriver Scan →Best organised online racing: iRacing
How its competition system differs
iRacing is designed around scheduled official series rather than primarily around casual, user-created lobbies. Its structure includes licence classes, a Safety Rating and performance-based matchmaking. Those systems are intended to place drivers in organised races and reward clean, consistent participation.
PC Gamer has described iRacing as close to real racing on PC. The comparison is most relevant to its procedures and competitive discipline: sessions, licences and safety consequences make online conduct part of the game rather than an optional extra.
The cost and content trade-off
iRacing requires an active subscription, and cars and tracks are sold separately. That recurring model can cost more over time than a conventional one-time game, especially if you want to enter several series. In return, you get an organised service with scheduled races and a progression structure that is difficult to reproduce in a standard title.

Single-player limitations
iRacing places much less emphasis on a traditional offline career. AI and solo practice can help you learn, but the service is fundamentally aimed at online competition. Choose it when racing against human drivers under formal rules is your main goal, not when you want a large solo campaign.

Best for endurance and WEC: Le Mans Ultimate
Le Mans Ultimate focuses on the World Endurance Championship, its Hypercar class and long-form endurance racing. That makes it a targeted choice for readers who are specifically interested in multi-class endurance events and the distinctive rhythm of long stints.
Its narrower scope is deliberate. It does not try to cover every category represented by a broad simulator such as Automobilista 2, nor does it provide iRacing’s subscription-based licence ecosystem. If the appeal of Gran Turismo Sport for you is simply collecting many different road cars, another recommendation will fit better. If you want WEC machinery and endurance formats, Le Mans Ultimate is the specialist option.
Comparison of the main PC alternatives
| Game | Platform | Realism and focus | Controller accessibility | Single-player | Online competition | Weather / night | Mods or community content | Cost structure |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|

| Assetto Corsa Competizione | PC | Dedicated GT3/GT4 simulation | Usable, but demanding | Career, championship and free play | Ranked multiplayer and organised GT racing | Dynamic weather and night racing | Officially curated GT content | Game purchase; optional content and regional pricing vary |
| Automobilista 2 | PC | Multi-category simulator | Best with a wheel, usable with a pad | Custom race weekends and AI grids | Multiplayer available | Dynamic weather and changing conditions | Less mod-dependent than Assetto Corsa | Game purchase; edition and additional-content pricing vary |
| Assetto Corsa | PC | General simulator with extensive community expansion | Configurable; wheel recommended for precision | Events and self-built championships | Community servers | Depends on installed content and tools | Exceptional community cars, tracks, roads and graphics | Game purchase; community content may be separate or free |
| iRacing | PC | Competition-focused simulation | Wheel and pedals strongly preferred | Limited compared with the other choices | Scheduled series, licences, Safety Rating and matchmaking | Varies by series and event | Official service content rather than open modding | Active subscription plus separately sold cars and tracks |
| Le Mans Ultimate | PC | WEC, Hypercar and endurance specialist | Wheel recommended | Endurance-focused events | Online endurance competition | Built around long-event conditions | Focused official content | Game purchase; edition and additional-content pricing vary |
Controller or wheel: what you actually need
When a controller is enough
A controller is sufficient for starting with Forza Motorsport and can also work in the other titles after careful sensitivity and dead-zone adjustment. It is practical for short races, occasional play and players who are still deciding how deeply they want to enter simulation racing.
Why a force-feedback wheel helps
For ACC, Automobilista 2, Assetto Corsa and iRacing, a force-feedback racing wheel and pedals are the most useful upgrade. Force feedback communicates front-tyre loading, understeer and rear-grip loss through the steering, while pedals make braking pressure and throttle modulation more precise. Those signals help you correct a slide or find the limit earlier than visual cues alone.
You do not need an expensive motion rig. A securely mounted wheel with adjustable pedals is enough to begin. Prioritise consistent force feedback, a firm mounting position and a comfortable seating angle over cosmetic extras.

How to choose in five decisions
- Start with your preferred cars. Choose Forza for a broad licensed garage, ACC for GT3/GT4, Le Mans Ultimate for WEC Hypercars, or Automobilista 2 for multiple categories.
- Decide how much structure you want online. Pick iRacing for scheduled series and licence progression; choose ordinary multiplayer when you prefer flexible sessions.
- Decide whether you will use mods. Assetto Corsa is the clear choice if community cars, roads and graphics are central to the experience.
- Choose your main way to play. For controller-first accessibility, begin with Forza. For a wheel, VR and custom AI races, Automobilista 2 is especially flexible.
- Match the commitment to your budget. An active subscription and separately purchased content are part of iRacing’s model; the other recommendations use conventional game access with variation by edition and optional content.
Common mistakes and how to avoid them
Buying a specialist simulator for a collection-game expectation
ACC and Le Mans Ultimate are focused championships, not general garages. Confirm that their car and discipline focus matches your interests before buying. For a broad starting point, Forza Motorsport or Automobilista 2 is safer.
Assuming a wheel is mandatory on day one
It is not. Start with a controller in Forza, or use one while learning the menus and assists in another title. Add a force-feedback wheel when you want finer braking, steering and grip information.
Installing too many mods at once
With Assetto Corsa, add and test community content incrementally. Mixing several cars, tracks and visual tools at once makes it difficult to identify a broken file or dependency.
Ignoring online etiquette and safety systems
In ranked or scheduled racing, a fast lap does not compensate for repeated contact. Learn braking points, leave room in the first corner and practise consistency before entering races where incidents affect ratings or licences.
Bottom line
Choose Forza Motorsport for the closest approachable circuit-racing substitute, Assetto Corsa Competizione for authentic GT3/GT4 competition, Automobilista 2 for variety and AI, Assetto Corsa for mods, iRacing for organised online racing, and Le Mans Ultimate for WEC endurance. A controller is enough to start, while a force-feedback wheel and pedals become increasingly valuable as you move toward detailed simulation.
