For an iPhone owner who wants a book-style foldable, Samsung Galaxy Z Fold7 is the strongest documented choice in this comparison. Samsung lists an 8-inch inner display, a 6.5-inch cover display, USB-C, DeX support, a 4,400mAh typical battery, 215g weight and an IP48 rating. Samsung also documents a Smart Switch route for moving selected data from an iPhone.
If your priority is a phone that becomes much shorter in a pocket rather than a tablet-like workspace, Samsung Galaxy Z Flip7 is the relevant alternative. It uses the clamshell form factor, while the Fold7 opens like a small tablet. Neither choice guarantees that every iPhone app, message, setting or account will migrate unchanged, and prices, stock, carrier support and repair terms must be checked for your country before purchase.
The short answer
Choose Galaxy Z Fold7 if you want a large screen for reading, video, multitasking and documents while still carrying a phone-sized device when closed. Choose Galaxy Z Flip7 if compact folded dimensions matter more than a large interior screen.

What changes when you leave the iPhone
A foldable switch is two changes at once: iOS to Android and a flat phone to a hinged device. Plan for both rather than treating the Fold7 or Flip7 as an iPhone with a different screen.
#1 Best Overall
- Unfold extraordinary with Google Pixel 10 Pro Fold; with Pixel’s largest screen and Gemini, Google’s most advanced AI, it’s made for multitasking and entertainment[1]
- Unlocked Android phone gives you the flexibility to change carriers and choose your own data plan[2]; it works with Google Fi, Verizon, T-Mobile, AT&T, and other major carriers
- Get a head start on syncing your data before it even arrives: After you purchase your new Pixel, look for an email that explains how to transfer your photos, videos, passwords, and more in just a few quick steps[14]
- The gearless, high-strength hinge makes it durable enough to handle about 10 years of folding[3]; plus, Pixel 10 Pro Fold is built with Corning Gorilla Glass Victus 2 and has an IP68 rating for water and dust resistance[4]
- The brighter-than-ever 8-inch Super Actua Flex display is Pixel’s largest screen yet[12]; and you can use Split Screen to plan a trip, drag and drop images, and open multiple apps at once[5]
Android replaces the iPhone interface
You will set up a Google account or another Android-compatible account, reinstall apps from the Play Store, and learn Samsung’s One UI controls. App availability and sign-in behavior can differ from iOS. Some apps restore their own cloud data after you sign in; others require an export, a new setup or manual recovery.
Apple-specific services also need a plan. Review which passwords are stored in iCloud Keychain, where your photos and notes live, and how you receive two-factor authentication codes. Keep the iPhone available until banking, work, messaging and authentication apps all work on the Galaxy phone. If you use an Apple Watch, treat it as a separate compatibility decision rather than assuming it will pair with Android.
Messages and accounts need verification
Before removing the SIM or eSIM from the iPhone, confirm that your phone number is registered with the new device and that important contacts can reach you. Turn off iMessage for the number when appropriate so messages do not remain routed through Apple’s service. Your carrier may require a new eSIM download or an IMEI check.

The folded experience is not identical to a normal phone
Both Samsung designs give you an outer screen for calls, notifications and ordinary phone use. On the Fold7, the cover display is a narrow 6.5-inch panel and the inner display opens to 8.0 inches. You will sometimes open the phone for a task that would have taken one screen on an iPhone, but reading, side-by-side apps and documents gain room once it is open.
Book-style versus clamshell: make this decision first
Book-style: Galaxy Z Fold7
The Fold7 opens horizontally, exposing a larger inner display. It suits people who read long documents, watch video, compare information, use two apps at once or want a larger canvas for work. Closed, it behaves as a phone through the cover display; open, it is closer to a compact tablet.
Clamshell: Galaxy Z Flip7
The Flip7 folds vertically, reducing its height for a pocket or small bag. Its design favors quick interactions on the outside and a conventional phone-shaped screen when opened. It does not provide the Fold7’s tablet-sized interior, so it is the wrong choice if your main reason for buying a foldable is expansive multitasking space.

- BIGGER, YET SLIMMER THAN EVER: Who would’ve guessed that wider could also be lighter? The design of Galaxy Z Fold7 is refined to feel like a traditional smartphone with its expanded cover display.
- BEST CAMERA ON A FOLD YET: You asked for more – now you can have the most. Galaxy Z Fold7 now boasts an ultra-premium 200MP camera with Pro-Visual Engine so you can effortlessly take incredibly detailed pics.
- SCREENSHARE FOR STREAMLINED ASSISTANCE: Intrigued by something you see? Go Live with Google Gemini, then screenshare or point your camera at it for additional info or assistance on the fly.¹
- DO AND VIEW MORE, ALL AT ONCE: With an 8” screen that allows you to view up to three windows at once, Galaxy Z Fold7 is the ultimate device for seeing and doing more.²
- ALL THE POWER AND SPEED YOU NEED Smoothly run your day with the power and speed of Galaxy Z Fold7. With its customized Snapdragon 8 Elite processor for Galaxy, you can stream your favorite shows, edit photos, scroll social feeds and more with ease.³
Do not compare the Fold7’s 8.0-inch inner display with a Flip7 cover-screen measurement as if they describe the same kind of panel. One is an opened workspace and the other is an external quick-use display.
Samsung Galaxy Z Fold7: the best-documented choice for iPhone switchers
Samsung Electronics America’s specification page, checked October 13, 2026, lists the following figures for Galaxy Z Fold7:
| Specification | Manufacturer-listed detail | How to interpret it |
|---|---|---|
| Main display | 8.0 inches | The large inner screen when the phone is open. |
| Cover display | 6.5 inches | The external screen used while the phone is closed. |
| Rear cameras | 200MP + 12MP + 10MP | These are published camera resolutions, not a guarantee of image quality in every condition. |
| Battery | 4,400mAh typical capacity | A manufacturer capacity figure; runtime depends on network, brightness, apps and display use. |
| Weight | 215g | Published device weight; cases and regional variants can change what you carry. |
| Port | USB-C | Useful for charging, wired data transfer and compatible accessories. |
| Desktop mode | Samsung DeX support | Can provide a desktop-style interface with compatible display and accessories. |
| Ingress rating | IP48 | A published resistance rating, not a claim that the phone is dustproof, drop-proof or indestructible. |
Samsung announced US general availability beginning July 25, 2025. That date confirms the US launch history; it does not establish stock, a current price or availability in another country in October 2026.
Why the Fold7 fits an iPhone user who wants more workspace
The Fold7 preserves a phone-like cover-screen experience while adding a substantially larger interior. That makes it the clearest match for an iPhone owner who is frustrated by a single small canvas for email, documents, maps, video or research. Samsung DeX adds another possible workflow when you have a compatible external display, but it should be treated as an additional mode rather than a replacement for a laptop in every job.
What the specifications do not prove
The listed camera resolutions do not establish low-light quality, shutter speed, video stabilization or portrait performance. The 4,400mAh typical capacity does not establish a number of hours per charge. IP48 does not promise survival after a fall, exposure to fine dust or liquid beyond the conditions covered by the rating. Independent testing and the warranty terms for your market are required for those judgments.

Samsung’s July 9, 2025 specification sheet identifies Galaxy Z Flip7 as a foldable phone in the clamshell category. That is enough to establish its role in this decision: it is the model to consider when folded height and quick outer-screen interactions matter more than a tablet-like interior.
The supplied product details do not establish a complete set of Flip7 screen, camera, battery, weight or durability figures for a like-for-like table. Check the current Samsung specification sheet for your market before comparing those values with the Fold7. Do not infer that the Flip7 is better overall, or that it has the same IP rating, battery capacity or camera system as the Fold7.
Who should choose the Flip7
- People who dislike carrying a tall phone in a pocket or small bag.
- Users who mostly make calls, message, browse and take ordinary phone photos on a conventional-size opened screen.
- Anyone who values a compact folded shape more than a large interior workspace.
Who should not choose it
- Readers who want tablet-style document viewing or two-app multitasking.
- Users buying a foldable primarily for a large video or reading surface.
- Anyone expecting the clamshell to deliver the Fold7’s 8-inch inner display.
How to transfer iPhone data with Samsung Smart Switch
Samsung says Smart Switch can move contacts, photos, videos, notes, calendar events and more from iOS to a Galaxy Z Fold7 by cable or wirelessly through the Smart Switch app. The same Samsung transfer route is relevant when setting up another current Galaxy model, but confirm the exact prompts on the device you buy.
- Keep the iPhone charged and unlocked. Update it if necessary, and make sure you know the Apple ID password and passcodes for protected accounts.
- Start Galaxy setup. During initial setup, choose the option to copy apps and data when it appears, or open Samsung Smart Switch after setup.
- Choose iPhone or iPad as the source. Smart Switch will present a cable connection or wireless transfer path. Follow the method shown on both phones.
- Authorize the connection. Trust prompts, permissions and an Apple ID sign-in may appear. Approve only the access needed for the data you want to copy.
- Select categories. Samsung identifies contacts, photos, videos, notes, calendar events and more as transferable categories. Review the selection instead of assuming that every item on the iPhone is included.
- Let the transfer finish. Keep both devices connected, unlocked when requested and on power if the data set is large.
- Audit the result. Open contacts, photos, notes and calendar entries on the Galaxy. Check dates, albums, attachments and duplicate records.
- Reinstall and sign in manually. Download apps that did not transfer, restore app-specific backups, recreate payment cards and verify work or security accounts.
- Keep the iPhone for recovery. Do not erase it until messages, authentication, banking, photos and other irreplaceable data have been checked.
Smart Switch is a documented transfer route, not a guarantee of complete migration. App binaries, app sessions, some protected data, settings and account credentials may require separate setup. A cable can be preferable for a large photo library; wireless transfer is more convenient but depends on both devices remaining connected and available.
What to check before buying
Carrier and regional compatibility
Confirm that the exact model and storage variant work on your carrier’s bands and activation system. Ask whether the carrier supports eSIM for that model, whether Wi-Fi calling is enabled, and whether an imported or unlocked device receives the same support as a carrier-sold version. Availability and configurations differ by country.
Warranty and repair terms
Foldables contain a hinge and flexible display, so read the local warranty exclusions before purchase. Check the authorized repair network, display and hinge coverage, accidental-damage options, turnaround time and whether parts are available in your region. The IP48 specification should not be treated as a repair promise.
Software support
Verify Samsung’s current update policy for the exact model and region, including the length of Android-version and security updates. Confirm that your essential apps support the Android version installed on the phone. Update commitments and availability can vary by market and carrier.

Camera, battery and durability: how to read the claims
Camera
The Fold7’s rear system is listed as 200MP + 12MP + 10MP. Resolution alone cannot tell you whether it will outperform your iPhone in night scenes, moving subjects, zoom or video. If photography is decisive, compare current independent samples for the exact software version and region rather than choosing from megapixel counts.
Battery
Samsung lists a 4,400mAh typical capacity for the Fold7. An open 8-inch display can consume more power than the cover display, while network conditions, brightness, refresh behavior and app use can dominate runtime. Look for tests that report the workload you actually perform; do not convert the capacity figure into a promised day of use.
Durability
IP48 is the published Fold7 rating. It should be read exactly as a resistance classification, not as “dustproof,” “waterproof,” “drop-proof” or an assurance against hinge wear. Use a case if your handling environment is demanding, keep grit away from the hinge and follow Samsung’s current care instructions.
Google Pixel and Motorola alternatives: what is and is not established
Current editorial roundups and user discussions also mention Google Pixel 10 Pro Fold and Motorola Razr models. They are reasonable names to place on a comparison shortlist, but the available evidence here does not verify their current specifications, prices, regional stock, carrier compatibility or support commitments.
If you investigate either family, use the manufacturer page for the country where you will buy it. Confirm inner and outer display sizes separately, the transfer method from iOS, update duration, repair access, warranty exclusions, eSIM support and the complete unlocked cost. Do not treat a roundup or forum comment as a substitute for those checks.
A practical decision framework
- Choose the shape. Select book-style if the inner screen is the reason you want a foldable; select clamshell if folded compactness is the reason.
- List your non-negotiable iPhone data. Separate transferable categories such as contacts and photos from app accounts, protected data and services that require manual setup.
- Check the network before the hardware. Confirm the exact regional model, bands, eSIM process and carrier support.
- Set a durability budget. Include a case, protection plan and possible repair cost, not just the phone’s purchase price.
- Verify software longevity. Check current update commitments and whether your work, banking and authentication apps run correctly.
- Buy only after an audit plan exists. Keep the iPhone, transfer with Smart Switch, test every essential service and erase the old phone only after verification.
Bottom line
For most iPhone users specifically seeking a book-style foldable, Galaxy Z Fold7 is the best-supported recommendation in the available evidence: it combines a documented iOS transfer path with an 8-inch inner display, a 6.5-inch cover display and a broad set of published hardware specifications. Galaxy Z Flip7 is the better direction when a short folded phone matters more than tablet-like space. Treat camera quality, battery life, durability, software support, repairability, price and carrier compatibility as separate checks, because the manufacturer figures alone do not settle those questions.
