The best Nitro Deck 2 alternative depends on the feature you are willing to give up. Choose the HORI Split Pad Pro if you want a straightforward, full-size controller feel while the Switch is in handheld mode. Choose the Mobapad M6 HD if detachable controllers that can also work wirelessly matter more. Keep the Nitro Deck 2 as the feature baseline: it supports Switch 2, the original Switch and the OLED model, with four remappable rear buttons plus additional upper shoulder buttons.
These are different designs rather than interchangeable versions of one product. Check your exact Switch generation, the controller’s stated connection modes and the current regional listing before ordering. Stock and prices can change quickly, and a listing for Switch 2 should not be assumed to apply to an original Switch, or vice versa, without an explicit compatibility statement.
Quick decision: which controller fits your use?
| If your priority is… | Start with… | Why |
|---|---|---|
| A simple, full-size handheld grip | HORI Split Pad Pro | Nintendo presents it as a full-size controller experience for handheld mode. |
| Wireless use as well as handheld play | Mobapad M6 HD | Mobapad states that it supports both wireless and handheld modes on Nintendo Switch and is compatible with Switch 2. |
| The broadest feature set among these three | Nitro Deck 2 | TechRadar reports compatibility with Switch 2, the original Switch and the OLED model, four remappable rear buttons and added upper shoulder buttons. |
| A particular feature such as motion, rumble, NFC or an IR camera | Verify the manufacturer’s specification before buying | The sources establish those features for the HORI model only by saying they are absent; they do not establish equivalent specifications for every alternative. |
That shortlist is more useful than declaring one universal winner. Handheld controllers change the console’s weight, button reach, stick position and transport convenience. A controller that feels excellent to one person can feel too large or too heavy to another, so match the design to how you actually play.
What Nitro Deck 2 sets as the baseline
Nitro Deck 2 is the reference point in this comparison because it combines broad console compatibility with extra inputs. TechRadar reports support for Nintendo Switch 2, the original Nintendo Switch and the Nintendo Switch OLED model. The same report says it retains four remappable rear buttons and adds upper shoulder buttons.

- Read Before You Buy — No Video Output: These adapters support charging and USB 2.0 data transfer, but cannot transmit video signals. Except for standard USB webcams (which use USB data only), they are not compatible with HDMI/DisplayPort cables, video-capable USB-C hubs, or docking stations with video output.
- Convert USB-A Ports to USB-C: Designed to connect USB-C earphones, cables, flash drives, card readers, and other USB-C accessories to standard USB-A ports. Plug-and-play with no drivers or software required.
- Aluminum Alloy Housing: Built with a sturdy aluminum alloy shell that aids in heat dissipation and protects against daily wear and scratches. Designed to maintain a stable and secure connection.
- Compact & Travel-Friendly: The ultra-compact design allows the adapter to stay plugged into your device without blocking adjacent ports or adding bulk, reducing wear and tear on your original USB ports.
- 12-Month Warranty: Backed by a 12-month manufacturer warranty for peace of mind. Designed to meet strict quality control standards for reliable everyday performance.
Those rear and shoulder controls are useful only if you will assign them and can reach them naturally. Remapping can move a frequently used action away from a face button, but it also creates another control layout to learn and configure. If you never use rear inputs, the extra hardware may offer little practical benefit compared with a simpler shell.

Questions to ask before choosing an alternative
- Do you need the controller attached to the console, or must it also operate away from the Switch?
- Which Switch generation do you own: the original model, the OLED model or Switch 2?
- Will you use remappable rear or upper buttons, or would you rather have a simpler layout?
- Are motion controls, HD Rumble, NFC or an IR camera required for your games?
- Do you prefer a large, full-size grip or a smaller, lighter arrangement?
HORI Split Pad Pro: the simple full-size handheld choice
Nintendo’s product description says: “Enjoy the full-size controller experience in handheld mode with the HORI Split Pad Pro!” That is the clearest reason to choose it. The design is aimed at players who want larger controls than the standard attached Joy-Con arrangement while playing with the console in handheld mode.
What’s actually slowing this PC down?
Pick the symptom - the matching free tool is one click away.
The trade-off is explicit in Nintendo’s listing: the Split Pad Pro does not include Motion Controls, HD Rumble, NFC or an IR camera. Do not buy it expecting those functions to work like they do on standard Joy-Con controllers. If a game depends on motion aiming, rumble feedback, reading NFC figures or the IR camera, you will need another control method for that activity.
What the Split Pad Pro is best at
- Handheld-only simplicity: its official positioning is a full-size controller experience while attached in handheld mode.
- A familiar two-side layout: left and right controller sections stay on the console rather than becoming a separate wireless gamepad.
- Clear feature expectations: Nintendo explicitly identifies the missing Motion Controls, HD Rumble, NFC and IR camera, so you can screen out incompatible use cases before purchase.
What to check before buying
Nintendo’s cited listing does not establish wireless operation or Switch 2 compatibility. That does not prove either feature is unavailable; it means you should not infer it from the product name. Check the exact regional product page and packaging for the Switch generation you own and for any separate wireless-use claim. A listing for an original Switch accessory is not automatically a Switch 2 listing.

Mobapad M6 HD: the flexible Joy-Con alternative
Mobapad states that the M6 HD supports both wireless and handheld modes on Nintendo Switch and is compatible with Switch 2. That combination makes it the more natural alternative for someone who wants controllers that can stay attached during portable play but can also be used wirelessly when the console is docked or positioned away from the player.
“Wireless” and “handheld” describe different use modes, so confirm how the particular package is intended to connect before ordering. Read the manufacturer’s compatibility statement for your console generation and the regional listing’s included accessories. The Switch 2 reference is important: do not assume that every M6 HD listing, revision or bundle has identical support.

When M6 HD makes more sense than a fixed handheld shell
- You alternate between portable and television play: wireless operation avoids buying a second controller solely for docked sessions.
- You want detachable controls: the product is positioned as a Joy-Con alternative rather than only a permanently attached grip.
- You are moving to Switch 2: Mobapad’s compatibility statement specifically includes Switch 2, but you should still match the statement to the exact model and seller listing.
Features that still require verification
The supplied Mobapad information establishes connection modes and Switch 2 compatibility, but it does not establish motion controls, HD Rumble, NFC, IR-camera support, remappable rear buttons, stick placement, D-pad construction, weight or battery life. If one of those is a deciding factor, look for a manufacturer specification for the exact M6 HD version rather than borrowing expectations from a different controller.
Feature comparison
The table separates confirmed statements from details that the cited product information does not establish. “Not stated” is not a claim that a feature is missing; it is a warning to verify it before purchase.

Comfort: choose by hand size and grip, not by a universal ranking
“Most comfortable” is not a specification. A full-size shell can give larger hands more room, while a compact arrangement may suit smaller hands or shorter sessions. Weight distribution also matters: a controller that feels balanced in both hands may be easier to hold than one that concentrates mass at the front of the console.

- Flawless 4K@60Hz Video with HDMI: Delivers exceptional clarity and smoothness with its 4K@60Hz HDMI port, making it ideal for high-definition presentations and entertainment. (Note: Only the HDMI port supports video projection; the USB-C port is for data transfer only.)

For larger hands or a preference for broad grips
Start with the Split Pad Pro because Nintendo explicitly describes its goal as a full-size controller experience. That description does not guarantee a fit, but it identifies the intended ergonomic direction. Compare the grip width and button reach with the way you hold the console rather than relying on photographs.
Do these 3 things before closing this tab:
1Clear out junk files and repair common Windows errors2Fix the driver behind crashes, sound loss and screen glitches3Repair Windows errors before they cause bigger problemsFor changing between handheld and docked positions
Consider the M6 HD because its stated wireless and handheld modes reduce the need to switch to an entirely separate controller. Detachable controls can also change how you hold the console, but verify the exact wireless pairing and charging arrangement in the product documentation.
For players who use extra inputs
Nitro Deck 2 has the clearest documented advantage: four remappable rear buttons and added upper shoulder buttons. Map only actions you can reach without shifting your grip. A theoretically useful button is not an ergonomic improvement if reaching it causes accidental inputs.
Motion, rumble, NFC and IR: avoid expensive surprises
These functions are easy to overlook because a controller may fit the console physically while omitting capabilities used by particular games.
Motion controls
Nintendo says the Split Pad Pro has no Motion Controls. If you use tilt aiming, steering or gesture-based actions, retain standard Joy-Con or another controller that explicitly supports the required input.

- Please Note: To reach 10Gbps speed, keep the cable under 3.3 ft. For USB A Male to USB C adapters, try flipping the USB C connector. USB C Male to USB A adapters support bidirectional 10Gbps transfer within 3.3 ft
HD Rumble
Nintendo says the Split Pad Pro has no HD Rumble. Games will not provide that controller’s haptic feedback through the Split Pad Pro. The cited information does not establish rumble behavior for M6 HD or Nitro Deck 2, so verify each model’s current specification.
NFC and IR camera
Nintendo also lists no NFC and no IR camera for the Split Pad Pro. Anyone using NFC accessories or an IR-camera feature should treat those as mandatory requirements, not optional extras. Do not infer support for the other two controllers without a current manufacturer statement.
Compatibility and connection checklist
- Identify your console: write down whether you have the original Switch, the OLED model or Switch 2.
- Match the exact product name: accessory families can have revisions and bundles with different compatibility statements.
- Confirm the connection mode: choose a product that explicitly supports attached handheld use, wireless use or both, according to your routine.
- Check required features: mark motion, rumble, NFC and IR-camera needs before comparing comfort.
- Check the physical interface: confirm that the listing names your console generation and does not describe a different rail, shell or adapter.
- Review what is included: wireless-capable products may require a particular charging or pairing process; verify the package contents.
- Recheck the regional listing: stock, price, model names and availability can change by country and date.
Common buying mistakes and how to avoid them
Assuming every alternative is wireless
The M6 HD is explicitly described as supporting wireless and handheld modes. The cited Nintendo description for the Split Pad Pro only describes handheld use, and the cited Nitro Deck 2 information does not establish wireless operation. Confirm this before planning to use a controller away from the console.
Assuming Switch 2 support from a similar shape
Mobapad explicitly says M6 HD is compatible with Switch 2, and TechRadar reports the same broad compatibility for Nitro Deck 2. The cited Split Pad Pro listing does not establish Switch 2 support. Check the exact manufacturer statement rather than assuming physical similarity means electrical or software compatibility.
Expecting a feature because another controller has it
Four remappable rear buttons are documented for Nitro Deck 2, not automatically for the M6 HD or Split Pad Pro. Likewise, Nintendo’s list of missing features applies to the Split Pad Pro; it should not be copied to the other products without evidence.
Best Value
- 5-in-1 Connectivity: Equipped with a 4K HDMI port, a 5 Gbps USB-C data port, two 5 Gbps USB-A ports, and a USB C 100W PD-IN port. Note: The USB C 100W PD-IN port supports only charging and does not support data transfer devices such as headphones or speakers.
- Powerful Pass-Through Charging: Supports up to 85W pass-through charging so you can power up your laptop while you use the hub. Note: Pass-through charging requires a charger (not included). Note: To achieve full power for iPad, we recommend using a 45W wall charger.
- Transfer Files in Seconds: Move files to and from your laptop at speeds of up to 5 Gbps via the USB-C and USB-A data ports. Note: The USB C 5Gbps Data port does not support video output.
- HD Display: Connect to the HDMI port to stream or mirror content to an external monitor in resolutions of up to 4K@30Hz. Note: The USB-C ports do not support video output.
- What You Get: Anker 332 USB-C Hub (5-in-1), welcome guide, our worry-free 18-month warranty, and friendly customer service.
Buying on comfort claims alone
Review impressions can help you form a shortlist, but hand size, grip pressure and game type change the result. Use reviewer comfort comments as context and prioritize a return policy or retailer terms that let you correct a poor fit.
Using an old price or stock report
Prices and availability are volatile. Treat any displayed amount as a time- and region-specific figure, and verify the current listing immediately before checkout. This guide does not assign a universal price because the cited information does not provide one that remains reliable across regions and dates.
How to choose in three scenarios
You play almost entirely in handheld mode
Choose the Split Pad Pro if its full-size design suits your hands and you can live without Motion Controls, HD Rumble, NFC and an IR camera. It is the clearest uncomplicated alternative to a feature-heavy shell.
You switch between portable and wireless play
Choose the M6 HD as the starting point because Mobapad explicitly supports both modes and lists Switch 2 compatibility. Verify the exact generation, connection instructions and any feature requirements for your games before purchase.
You want the most documented extra controls
Stay with Nitro Deck 2 if its compatibility range and four remappable rear buttons plus upper shoulder buttons are the reason you were considering it. An alternative is only better when it solves a specific problem, such as wanting wireless use or preferring a simpler full-size handheld layout.
Bottom line
There is no single best Nitro Deck 2 replacement. The HORI Split Pad Pro is the straightforward full-size handheld choice, with clearly documented omissions that matter for motion, rumble, NFC and IR-camera features. The Mobapad M6 HD is the flexible Joy-Con alternative for buyers who need both handheld and wireless modes, including stated Switch 2 compatibility. Nitro Deck 2 remains the stronger baseline when its broad compatibility and extra remappable controls are more valuable than simplicity.
