Coolify is the strongest starting point for self-hosting a Netlify-style workflow in 2026 because it explicitly lists a Static build pack served by Caddy. Dokploy is the better candidate if you want Docker Swarm services and built-in CI/CD, but its static-site path and licensing need checking. Dokku is the most established, simplest single-server choice when a command line and Git pushes are acceptable. Cloudflare Pages, Vercel and GitHub Pages are useful managed alternatives, but they are not self-hostable.

The crucial trade-off is ownership versus operations. With Coolify, Dokploy or Dokku, you supply and maintain the server, storage, networking, TLS, updates and backups. Managed platforms remove most of that work but keep your deployment inside their infrastructure and policies.

What counts as a Netlify alternative for self-hosting?

Netlify combines Git-triggered builds, deployment automation, static hosting and, depending on the project, server-side features. A genuine self-hosted alternative must run on infrastructure you control rather than merely offering another hosted dashboard. The comparison below separates the three repeatedly identified self-hosted projects from managed services that cannot be installed on your own server.

Platform Hosting model Interface Static-site position Scale and maturity notes
Coolify Self-hosted PaaS Web dashboard Static build pack served by Caddy is the clearest documented path among the self-hosted choices Swarm multi-server mode is reported as experimental; Docker Compose zero-downtime deploys are not supported
Dokploy Self-hosted, Docker-based Web dashboard Static-site workflow is not confirmed in the available comparisons Runs services as Docker Swarm services and includes CI/CD; newer project with less documentation and fewer community answers
Dokku Self-hosted on one server CLI and Git push Static handling is not covered by the available comparisons No built-in multi-server or horizontal scaling; described as stable after about 13 years
Cloudflare Pages Managed edge service Hosted dashboard and Git integration Static sites and SSR at the provider’s edge Cannot be self-hosted; Edge Functions are available for dynamic logic
Vercel Managed service Hosted dashboard and Git integration Particularly suited to Next.js and React workflows Cannot be self-hosted; reported free tier has a 100 GB transfer cap and is for personal use
GitHub Pages Managed static hosting Git-based publishing Purely static Free for public repositories; no serverless or edge functions, form handling or analytics

Capabilities and limits in this table come from published comparison summaries rather than a verification of each project’s current documentation. Treat labels such as “clearest documented” as a buying signal, not a guarantee that a feature will remain unchanged in your release.

Coolify: the most direct self-hosted static-site fit

Coolify is the natural first option when your priority is a Netlify-like experience on your own VPS or home server. It offers a web dashboard and is reported to support Nixpacks as the default build pack, plus Dockerfile, Docker Compose and Static build packs. The Static pack is described as serving the generated files with Caddy, giving a direct path for a conventional static site.

If you need a server for it, an Antihost Linux VPS with a one-click Coolify image is one option. It is a self-managed VPS with NVMe storage and full root access, and it comes with a 14-day free trial, so you can try the setup before committing.

Why choose Coolify

  • The Static build pack maps cleanly to sites that produce HTML, CSS, JavaScript and assets during a build.
  • A dashboard suits teams that do not want every deployment and environment change to be a shell command.
  • Nixpacks, Dockerfile and Compose provide alternatives when a project needs a custom runtime or multiple containers.

A cautious static-site deployment flow

  1. Prepare the host. Use a server you control, assign a stable address, and reserve enough disk for the operating system, container images, build caches, logs and backups. Open only the network ports required by the platform and your web traffic.
  2. Install the current Coolify release. Follow the project’s current installation documentation for your operating system and review its supported Docker and system requirements before committing production data.
  3. Connect the Git repository. Add the repository and select the branch that should trigger deployments. Confirm that the build runs from a clean checkout rather than relying on files left on the server.
  4. Select the Static build pack where it is offered. Configure the framework’s build command and the directory containing the finished site. The exact field names can change between releases, so verify them in the dashboard you are using.
  5. Set the domain and TLS. Point DNS to the server, configure the hostname in the application, and check that the generated Caddy configuration obtains a certificate successfully.
  6. Deploy a preview and a production revision separately. Check asset paths, redirects, headers, forms and any client-side routing before changing the production domain.
  7. Test rollback and backup recovery. A successful build does not prove that a previous image, environment variable set or database backup can be restored.

Important Coolify limits

Comparison pages report that Coolify’s Swarm multi-server mode is experimental. Do not treat it as an automatic high-availability design without testing node loss, shared storage, DNS behavior and certificate renewal. They also report that Docker Compose zero-downtime deployments are not supported. If an update must not interrupt traffic, confirm the behavior for your chosen deployment type instead of assuming that a Compose stack will roll over seamlessly.

One comparison attributes a mixed-workload sizing recommendation to Coolify documentation: 8 GB of RAM, four CPU cores and 150 GB of storage for a setup that includes static sites. The source does not state a year or workload ceiling. Use it as an initial planning figure, then add headroom for concurrent builds, image layers, logs, databases and backups.

Dokploy: Docker Swarm and CI/CD, with more uncertainty

Dokploy is presented as a self-hosted Docker platform whose services run as Docker Swarm services. Reported build systems include Nixpacks, Dockerfile, Buildpacks and Paketo, and the platform includes built-in CI/CD. That combination may appeal to a team already comfortable with containers and Swarm concepts.

Where Dokploy may fit

  • Use it when a dashboard plus container-oriented deployment is more important than a narrowly static hosting workflow.
  • Consider it for teams that want Swarm services and an integrated CI/CD layer on infrastructure they operate.
  • Expect to spend more time validating behavior because comparison pages describe it as newer, with less documentation and fewer community answers.

Static-site questions to answer before adoption

The available comparisons do not confirm a dedicated static-site deployment path for Dokploy. Before moving a static site, verify how the platform handles the build output, the web server that serves it, custom domains, cache headers, client-side routing and atomic replacement of files. If the documented path requires packaging the site in a container, compare that operational overhead with Coolify’s Static build pack.

Licensing descriptions also conflict: one source describes an Apache 2.0 core with source-available paid features, while another describes the self-hosted offering as source-available. Check the current repository, licence files and commercial terms for the exact edition you intend to run. Do not infer rights to modify, redistribute or use paid features from a comparison table.

Dokku: the proven single-server, Git-push model

Dokku is described as a command-line-only, Git-push deployment system often compared with a miniature Heroku. Its appeal is deliberately narrow: put the platform on one server, add an application and deploy by pushing code. A comparison page describes it as stable after about 13 years and well documented.

Choose Dokku when simplicity beats a dashboard

  • You are comfortable administering Linux and reading deployment logs from a terminal.
  • Your workload fits one server and does not require built-in horizontal scaling.
  • You prefer a small, established workflow over a broader platform with more UI configuration.

Dokku has no built-in multi-server or horizontal scaling according to the comparisons. Plan capacity, failover and recovery around that single host. Static-site handling is not covered in the available material, so confirm whether your chosen buildpack or container setup serves generated files efficiently before selecting it for a large site.

Managed alternatives: useful, but not self-hostable

Cloudflare Pages

Cloudflare Pages is a managed edge service for static sites and SSR applications connected to Git. Edge Functions provide a place for dynamic logic, but the service does not support Docker deployment and cannot be self-hosted. A comparison reports the free plan as offering unlimited bandwidth and 500 builds per month. Treat those figures as plan details that can change and confirm them on the current pricing page before budgeting.

Pricing summaries conflict: one reports a $5-per-month Workers Paid option, while another reports a $20-per-month Pro annual price. Those may represent different products, billing periods or feature bundles. Do not combine them into a single “Cloudflare Pages price”; check the current regional checkout and plan documentation.

Vercel

Vercel is a managed platform reported as a strong fit for Next.js and React projects with a polished CI/CD pipeline. It cannot be self-hosted. The free tier is reported as capped at 100 GB of transfer and intended for personal use. Confirm whether your project, traffic and team usage comply with the current plan terms before relying on that tier.

GitHub Pages

GitHub Pages is managed hosting for static sites and is reported as free for public repositories. It does not provide serverless or edge functions, form handling or analytics. Select it when a repository-based static publication flow is enough; it is not a replacement for a server application or a self-hosted runtime.

Self-hosted versus managed: the decision that matters

Question Self-hosted choices Managed choices
Who supplies the server? You pay for and operate a VPS or home server. The provider operates the infrastructure.
Who handles operating-system and platform updates? You schedule, test and apply them. The provider controls most platform maintenance.
Where do logs, builds and artifacts live? On storage you configure and protect. Inside the provider’s service and retention policies.
Can you run arbitrary containers? Coolify and Dokploy are container-oriented; Dokku uses its own deployment model. Capabilities depend on the managed service; Cloudflare Pages, for example, is not a Docker host.
What happens during an outage? You diagnose the host, network, certificates and application. You depend on the provider’s incident response and status guarantees.

Self-hosting is not free hosting. The server bill is only the visible cost; administration time, off-site backups, monitoring, security updates, spare capacity and recovery testing also belong in the decision.

Server sizing and operating costs

For Coolify, a comparison reports 8 GB RAM, four cores and 150 GB storage for a mixed workload that includes static sites. Because the source gives no year, concurrency assumptions or workload ceiling, treat that as a starting point rather than a universal minimum. A site with infrequent builds and no database may need less; several concurrent builds, large dependency caches, image-based applications or databases may need substantially more.

Budget for these separate resources:

  • Compute: CPU and RAM for builds, containers and the platform itself.
  • Storage: operating-system files, container layers, build caches, logs, uploaded assets and backups.
  • Network: outbound transfer, DNS and any external load-balancing or CDN service.
  • Recovery: an off-server backup destination and enough spare capacity to rebuild the host.
  • Time: patching, alert response, certificate troubleshooting and deployment support.

A home server can remove a recurring VPS charge but introduces power, connectivity, hardware-failure and residential-network constraints. A VPS is easier to replace and usually has a datacenter network, but it remains a single-provider dependency unless you design redundancy.

Security and reliability checklist

Before exposing any self-hosted deployment platform to the public internet, complete these checks:

  • Use a dedicated administrator account and strong, unique credentials; enable multi-factor authentication when the platform supports it.
  • Patch the operating system, container runtime and deployment platform on a defined schedule.
  • Restrict administrative ports by firewall or private network and avoid exposing dashboards unnecessarily.
  • Store secrets in the platform’s secret mechanism or an external secret store, never in the repository.
  • Back up configuration, deployment metadata, certificates, databases and uploaded content—not only the Git repository.
  • Keep at least one backup off the host and periodically perform a restoration, not merely a backup-status check.
  • Monitor disk usage, memory, CPU, certificate expiry, failed builds and container restarts.
  • Document DNS changes, rollback steps and how to rebuild the server from a clean image.

Common failure modes and practical fixes

The build succeeds but the site shows a blank page

Check that the configured publish directory is the directory containing the final HTML and assets, not the source directory or a framework cache. Inspect the generated file paths and browser console for incorrect base URLs.

Client-side routes return 404 errors

A single-page application needs the web server to route unknown application paths to its entry document. Verify that behavior in the selected static server and test a deep link directly, not only navigation from the home page.

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.

Deployments stop when storage fills

Build caches, old images and logs can consume a small disk even when the site itself is tiny. Set retention rules, monitor free space and preserve only the artifacts needed for rollback.

TLS works on one hostname but not another

Confirm DNS records, the exact hostname configured in the platform and certificate issuance limits. Test both the apex and www form if you publish both.

A platform update changes deployment behavior

Read release notes, back up configuration and test updates on a non-production application first. This is especially important for experimental multi-node features and for a newer platform with a smaller documentation base.

Which option should you choose?

Choose Coolify if you want the closest self-hosted Netlify workflow

Its dashboard and explicitly reported Static build pack make it the least ambiguous choice for a conventional static site. Start on one server, keep multi-node Swarm experiments out of production until you have failure-tested them, and size storage for builds and backups rather than just published files.

Choose Dokploy if Swarm and container workflows are central

Dokploy’s reported Swarm service model, multiple build systems and built-in CI/CD are attractive when your team already thinks in containers. Validate static delivery, documentation quality, support expectations and the exact licence before migrating an important site.

Choose Dokku if one server and Git pushes are enough

Dokku suits an operator who values a mature, terminal-first workflow and does not need built-in horizontal scaling. Confirm the static serving approach for your framework and design a separate backup and recovery plan.

Choose a managed service when operations are not your product

Cloudflare Pages, Vercel or GitHub Pages can be the better engineering decision when you want provider-managed infrastructure. They do not satisfy a requirement to run the platform on your own server, and their quotas, pricing and feature limits must be checked against the current plan.

A migration plan that avoids an all-at-once cutover

  1. Inventory the existing site. Record the source repository, build command, output directory, environment variables, redirects, headers, forms, scheduled jobs and any server-side functions.
  2. Classify each requirement. Mark it static, containerized, database-backed, edge-dependent or provider-specific. This exposes where a self-hosted alternative may require redesign.
  3. Prototype on a non-production hostname. Deploy a copy, test clean builds, custom domains, TLS, redirects, asset caching and deep links.
  4. Measure operations, not just page output. Observe build duration, disk growth, memory use, log volume and rollback time over several releases.
  5. Prepare recovery before DNS migration. Keep the old deployment available, export data and document how to reverse the DNS change.
  6. Cut over with a short DNS TTL where appropriate. Monitor errors and certificate status, then raise the TTL after the new endpoint is stable.
  7. Retire the old service only after verification. Preserve the repository, backups and deployment documentation for the agreed rollback period.

What to verify before committing in 2026

Feature names, quotas, prices and licences change faster than the basic hosting models. Verify the current official documentation for the exact release and edition you will run, especially:

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.
  • Installation prerequisites and supported operating systems.
  • Static build configuration and the web server used to serve generated files.
  • Domain, TLS, redirects, headers and single-page application fallback behavior.
  • Backup, restore, update and rollback procedures.
  • Multi-node behavior, storage requirements and failure handling.
  • Licence terms for core software, paid features and redistribution.
  • Managed-plan transfer, build and usage limits, including regional pricing and billing period.

Those checks matter because the available comparison summaries leave Dokploy’s static support and licence description unresolved, do not verify Dokku’s static workflow, describe Coolify’s multi-server mode as experimental, and report conflicting Cloudflare pricing.
