For a sensible starting point, update your MSI Claw, then choose Balanced in both MSI Center M and Windows 11. For longer unplugged sessions, switch to an available power-saving scenario and lower demanding in-game settings; for games that need more speed, raise graphics settings gradually and check the result in the same scene. MSI’s guidance is clear that there is no single best setup for every game, Claw model, or software version.

Start with the balanced baseline

MSI’s August 14, 2026 guidance recommends installing applicable drivers and BIOS firmware, then setting both MSI Center M’s User Scenario and Windows 11 power mode to Balanced. This is a practical everyday starting point, not a promise of maximum frame rate or longest battery life. Different games load the GPU differently, so you will still need to tune each demanding game separately. MSI’s gaming-settings guidance gives the baseline and explains why settings vary by game.

Before changing power limits or graphics options, make sure the device is running applicable updates. In MSI Center M, scan the News and Updates area and install relevant updates offered for your particular Claw. Driver and BIOS availability can vary by model. MSI’s update advice matters because a setting or feature described for one software release may not appear on another device or installation.

Set MSI Center M to Balanced

Open MSI Center M and choose the User Scenario control. Select Balanced if it is available. MSI describes this as the general-purpose choice in its current guidance. If your installed version uses different labels or does not show Balanced, do not assume your device has the same options as a newer release; check the model’s support page and software version first.

Set Windows 11 to Balanced

Also select Balanced for Windows 11’s power mode. The MSI recommendation is to align this Windows setting with MSI Center M’s Balanced scenario rather than relying on one control alone. Windows labels and layout can vary with updates, so use the power mode setting shown by the installed Windows version.

Use this paired Balanced setup as a repeatable reference point. If you later test a battery-saving scenario or Manual Mode, you can compare the game against the same baseline instead of changing several system controls at once. The point is not to assume Balanced wins in every situation; it gives you an easy-to-identify starting profile before you make game-specific trade-offs.

Choose a starting profile for your session

The right profile depends on whether you want a general balance, longer unplugged play, or extra headroom for a demanding game. The available names depend on your Claw model and MSI Center M version.

When battery life matters most

MSI’s Claw walkthrough calls its battery-focused option Super Battery and warns that it may affect overall game performance. That is a trade-off: a game may run less smoothly or with reduced performance in exchange for a more power-saving setup. MSI’s documentation does not establish how many additional minutes or hours a particular game will run, so treat the profile as a way to reduce power use, not a guaranteed runtime target. Read MSI’s Claw walkthrough.

For a session where unplugged time takes priority, try the power-saving profile before making complicated manual changes. Then check the game you actually intend to play. A lighter game and a demanding game can respond differently to the same mode, and MSI does not publish one runtime figure that applies across models, titles, and settings. If performance becomes unacceptable, move back toward Balanced or adjust the game’s graphics rather than assuming that the same battery profile suits every title.

Check newer MSI Center M names before selecting them

MSI Center M 3.0 release notes use newer scenario mappings: Endurance Mode maps to Efficiency, AI Engine maps to Balanced, and Manual Mode offers Efficiency, Balanced, and Performance. In those notes, Performance is the default for Manual Mode. These names and mappings should not be assumed to exist on every Claw. The August 2026 release was available first for Claw 8 EX AI+, with rollout to other models planned in phases. Check the device’s support page and installed MSI Center M version before following instructions that depend on those labels. MSI Center M 3.0 release notes.

The label alone is not enough to confirm that a setting is active on your device. In the release notes, Endurance and Efficiency, AI Engine and Balanced, and Manual Mode’s three selectable plans describe that software release’s mapping. If the names on your screen differ, use the controls actually offered for your model and confirm the version before following a guide written for MSI Center M 3.0. Rollout timing matters too: the initial availability for Claw 8 EX AI+ does not mean all Claw handhelds received the same release at the same time.

Tune each game without guessing

Power profiles are only part of the balance. A game’s resolution and graphics options also affect how demanding it is to run. MSI advises starting with low graphics settings and raising them gradually while checking image quality and FPS. This is more reliable than copying a preset from a different game or treating one setting as ideal for every title.

  1. Use the same repeatable scene. Load a section of the game where you can observe similar action on each pass. Changes are easier to judge when you are not comparing different scenes with different GPU loads.
  2. Start the game at low graphics settings. Check how it looks and how smoothly it plays before increasing details. MSI does not prescribe one universal preset or fixed FPS target.
  3. Change one graphics setting at a time. Raise an option, revisit the same scene, and compare image quality and FPS. If the improvement in appearance is not worth the performance cost for your session, restore the previous value.
  4. Test resolution as a separate lever. MSI gives 1280 × 720 as an example of a lower resolution that may make gameplay smoother. It is an example, not a mandatory resolution or a measured guarantee of a particular FPS increase. Choose the highest resolution that still behaves acceptably for the game and session.
  5. Try an upscaler only when your model and game support it. MSI identifies XeSS on Intel-based Claw models, XeSS 3 support on Claw 8 EX AI+, and AMD FSR on Claw A8. Availability can depend on the exact hardware and game. If the option is not present, do not assume another model’s support applies to yours.
  6. Check Borderless Windowed if you see occasional stutter. MSI suggests trying this display mode in games where it may help with occasional stuttering. Treat it as a troubleshooting experiment, not a universal fix: compare the same scene before and after switching.

Make these adjustments in a useful order. First find a resolution and low-detail setup that plays acceptably, then increase individual graphics options to see which details matter most to you. If the game offers an upscaler supported by both the title and your model, test it as its own change. This lets you identify whether a visual or smoothness change came from resolution, a graphics option, or upscaling rather than from several simultaneous tweaks.

1280 × 720 is MSI’s example of a lower resolution that may improve smoothness; it is not a required setting for the whole Claw lineup. Try it only if you are willing to trade some image detail for a potentially easier workload. Likewise, an upscaler is not a universal toggle: the option must exist in the game, and model support differs. MSI names XeSS for Intel-based models, XeSS 3 for Claw 8 EX AI+, and FSR for Claw A8, so confirm the exact model and in-game options rather than selecting a feature based on a different Claw’s capabilities.

MSI’s guidance summarizes the reason for this process: “Different games place different levels of load on the GPU, so there is no single set of settings that works best for every game and scenario.” The quote comes from MSI’s Find the Best Gaming Settings for MSI Claw Series Handhelds article, last updated August 14, 2026.

Use Manual Mode carefully

If your MSI Center M version offers Manual Mode, MSI’s walkthrough says Quick Settings exposes PL1 and PL2 controls for customizing system power consumption. These controls give you a way to adjust power behavior, but MSI’s published guidance does not establish universal wattage values that balance battery life and performance across Claw models and games.

  1. Confirm that Manual Mode and its PL1/PL2 controls are available on your installed software.
  2. Record your current profile and settings so you can restore them if a change makes a game perform worse.
  3. Make a conservative adjustment rather than changing multiple controls at once.
  4. Test the same game scene and note both smoothness and image quality. If the change does not suit your goal, return to the prior values or Balanced.

Do not copy a wattage figure from another device as though it were an official MSI-wide recommendation. The model, firmware, software release, and game all affect whether a manual setting is appropriate; the cited MSI instructions explain where to adjust power but do not prescribe one value for every case. MSI Claw walkthrough.

Manual Mode is therefore best treated as an optional tuning step, not a prerequisite for a good battery/performance balance. If you use it, keep a note of the current profile and the change you made. Adjust a control, replay the same scene, and decide whether the change meets your goal. If the effect is unclear or undesirable, return to the earlier setting rather than stacking further changes on top of it. The official guidance reviewed here names PL1 and PL2 but does not supply target wattages, so there is no responsible universal number to recommend.

Know the model and software limits

“MSI Claw” covers multiple models, and feature availability is not uniform. MSI Center M 3.0.2608.1201 was announced first for Claw 8 EX AI+, with availability for other models planned in phases. Its August 2026 notes also describe fixes, including an issue with a 30 FPS limit in Endurance Mode, as included in an upcoming release for Claw 8 AI+, Claw 7 AI+, and Claw A8. That wording does not establish that the fixes are already installed on any particular device. Check your exact model’s support page and installed software before relying on a scenario name, upscaler, or fix described for another model or release. MSI’s release notes.

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.

The 30 FPS Endurance Mode issue is a reason to verify current update status when a mode appears to cap a game unexpectedly. MSI’s notes describe the fix as part of an upcoming release for Claw 8 AI+, Claw 7 AI+, and Claw A8; they do not establish that every device has already received it. Check the release offered for the exact model before concluding that the scenario itself is the intended limit or that another model’s fix is installed on yours.

Battery runtime also depends on the game and settings. MSI’s reviewed official guidance does not provide comparable runtime tests for each model, game, and configuration. As a result, a fixed number of unplugged hours cannot be promised from these settings. Compare your own sessions under similar conditions if runtime is the deciding factor.

Keep optional Windows security changes separate

MSI notes that Memory Integrity and Virtual Machine Platform may reduce performance or FPS in some games. Disabling them is not a routine battery-saving step: MSI warns that turning them off lowers Windows security protection, requires a restart, and leaves them disabled until you manually re-enable them. Consider this only as a deliberate performance trade-off when you understand the security impact, not as a default optimization for longer battery life. MSI’s guidance on gaming settings.

This is a separate choice from selecting a power plan or changing in-game graphics. A possible FPS change in some games is not a promise of longer battery runtime, and the reduced security protection is a meaningful consequence. If you do decide to test this option, MSI’s warning means you should account for the required restart and remember to turn the protections back on manually if you want them restored.

When you need to recharge away from an outlet

A compatible USB-C PD power bank is an option when changing settings is not enough to cover a session away from mains power. MSI’s Claw 7/8 user guide describes power-bank use and gives a 45–65 W USB-C PD adapter input range for the devices covered by that guide. Separately, the MSI specification sheet for the Claw A1M-044MY SKU lists a 65 W adapter and a 53 Wh battery. Those figures apply to that named SKU and should not be generalized to every Claw model. Claw 7/8 User Guide · Claw A1M-044MY specification sheet.

Before choosing a power bank, check the exact Claw model’s input requirements, the bank’s USB-C PD output profile, and cable compatibility. The adapter rating is not evidence that every product advertised at a similar wattage will work with every model. The cited product sheet is for the A1M-044MY and is marked with changes dated August 19, 2026.

In practical terms, use the 45–65 W range only for the Claw 7/8 devices covered by MSI’s guide, and use the A1M-044MY’s listed 65 W adapter figure only for that SKU’s specification. These are compatibility checks, not confirmation of a particular third-party bank. No single bank is verified here, so compare its stated USB-C PD output profile with the input requirements for your own model and make sure the cable is suitable as well.

A practical order for balancing settings

Make changes from broad controls to game-specific details, and keep the result tied to your actual goal. Start with MSI’s Balanced baseline, then move to a power-saving scenario if unplugged time matters more than performance. For a game that still struggles, lower or tune its graphics settings before experimenting with manual power controls. Compare one change at a time in the same scene, and preserve a path back to the previous setup.

  • For a general-use setup: update applicable software and use Balanced in MSI Center M and Windows 11.
  • For an unplugged session: choose Super Battery or an available Endurance/Efficiency option, understanding that performance may fall.
  • For a demanding game: begin at low graphics settings, test resolution and supported upscaling, and raise detail only when the result remains smooth enough.
  • For advanced tuning: use PL1/PL2 only if Manual Mode is available, and avoid assuming a universal wattage prescription.

This order keeps the baseline simple and makes trade-offs visible: power modes influence the system’s performance-efficiency balance, while per-game settings let you decide where visual detail is worth the extra load.

Frequently asked questions

What are the best MSI Claw settings for a balance of performance and battery life?

MSI’s general starting recommendation is Balanced in both MSI Center M and Windows 11 after installing applicable drivers and BIOS updates. Then tune each game separately: start with low graphics settings, raise options gradually, and check image quality and FPS in a repeatable scene. Switch to a battery-saving scenario when unplugged time matters more, knowing that performance may be reduced.

Should I use Super Battery or Balanced?

Use Balanced as the everyday baseline MSI recommends. MSI’s Claw walkthrough describes Super Battery as a more power-saving option and warns that it may affect overall game performance. Choose it when efficiency is the priority, then check whether the game remains playable to you. The mode does not guarantee a particular number of extra minutes or hours.

What do Endurance, AI Engine, and Manual mean in MSI Center M 3.0?

MSI Center M 3.0 release notes map Endurance Mode to Efficiency and AI Engine to Balanced. Manual Mode offers Efficiency, Balanced, and Performance, with Performance listed as its default. The release was initially available for Claw 8 EX AI+ and planned in phases for other models, so check your model’s support page and installed version before expecting those labels or mappings.

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.

What resolution should I use to improve smoothness?

MSI gives 1280 × 720 as an example of a lower resolution that may make gameplay smoother. It is not a mandatory setting or a promise of a specific FPS improvement. Try it as a separate change, compare the same scene, and decide whether the smoother behavior is worth the reduction in image detail for that game.

Which upscaler works on my MSI Claw?

MSI identifies XeSS on Intel-based Claw models, XeSS 3 support on Claw 8 EX AI+, and AMD FSR on Claw A8. Support depends on the model and the game exposing the option. Check the exact device and in-game menu; do not assume a feature listed for one Claw is present on another.

What PL1 and PL2 wattage should I set?

MSI documents PL1 and PL2 controls in Quick Settings for Manual Mode, but its instructions do not provide universal wattage values for balancing all games and Claw models. If the controls are available, adjust conservatively, change one thing at a time, and compare the same scene. Return to the previous values or Balanced if the result does not suit your goal.

Will turning off Memory Integrity or Virtual Machine Platform improve battery life?

MSI says those features may reduce performance or FPS in some games, but disabling them is not an ordinary battery-saving recommendation. MSI warns that doing so lowers Windows security protection, requires a restart, and leaves the features off until manually re-enabled. Treat it only as a deliberate performance trade-off, not a guaranteed way to extend runtime.
