Each instance keeps its own game version, loader, mods, resource packs and Java settings, so experimenting with one setup does not mean changing another. Choose the Modrinth App for a lighter, one-click Modrinth pack experience, or CurseForge App for the easiest installation of CurseForge packs.

Prism’s strongest advantage is instance isolation. An instance is its own folder, with its own Minecraft version, loader, mods, resource packs and Java settings. You can therefore maintain separate setups rather than treating every mod and configuration as one shared environment. That organization is useful when you want to keep a modpack intact while also testing another pack or game version.
Prism can run packs from both CurseForge and Modrinth. It is free and open source, and official download pages are available for Windows, Linux and macOS. That mix of source support, separate instances and control makes it the most versatile pick for a player who expects to manage more than one modded setup.

When Modrinth App is the better fit
Pick Modrinth App if your packs are on Modrinth and you want a lightweight, straightforward installation flow. Its browser is described as faster and less cluttered than CurseForge’s, and a pack installs in one click with its loader and dependencies handled. This reduces the number of separate setup decisions a new player needs to make.
The trade-off is maturity: the app is still labeled beta. Modrinth recommends trying Prism Launcher if the app is unstable on a particular system. That is a practical fallback, not a guarantee that Prism will resolve every system-specific problem.
