The best Mindustry hosting in 2026 depends on how much administration you want to do. Use the built-in LAN/Steam host for a few friends on the same network, choose managed game-server hosting when you want Mindustry-specific controls without maintaining a machine, or rent a VPS/cloud VM when you need maximum control and are comfortable installing Java, running the server JAR, configuring networking, and handling updates yourself. No current source establishes a universal provider winner, measured uptime leader, or lowest-latency host, so verify live plans and terms before paying.
Our top pick: Godlike.Host
For managed Mindustry hosting, our top pick is Godlike.Host, a game server host with a Mindustry server page and a Pterodactyl-based game panel that includes a task scheduler, sub-users with permissions, a config editor and SFTP/FTP access. It also offers up to three free backups a day with restore, free DDoS protection, 10 data-center locations and 24/7 support by live chat or ticket. You can try the panel on a free Mindustry server card (1-2 GB), but it must be extended every 3 hours, has limited panel features and is limited to one location; see the current plans for paid options.
First decide whether you need paid hosting
Paid hosting solves a specific problem: keeping a Mindustry world available when nobody wants to leave a personal computer running and the game open. It is not automatically better for every group.

Use the built-in host for a short, local session
Mindustry’s in-game LAN/Steam hosting is the simplest option for a few players on the same local network. It uses the host device’s resources and stops when that game closes. That makes it suitable for a private evening, a temporary cooperative map, or testing a custom setup at no cost.

- HIGH PLAYER INTERACTION: The Mind is all about player interaction and cooperation. It's a fantastic addition to your game night, encouraging teamwork and fun social dynamics.
- Best fit: a small group playing together at home or on one local network.
- Advantages: no recurring fee, no Java installation outside the game, and almost no server administration.
- Limitations: the host must keep the game running, the host device bears the workload, and it is not intended for larger groups or continuous availability.
Choose a dedicated server for continuous access
A dedicated server is a separate headless program rather than a normal game session. It can remain online while players join at different times, making it the better fit for a persistent community, a larger group, or a server that should be available when the owner is offline.
“A dedicated Linux or Windows machine is highly recommended.” — Mindustry Wiki, “Servers” guide.
You can run that program on your own machine, a rented VPS/cloud VM, or a managed game-server service. The choice is primarily about administration and control, not a guaranteed difference in game quality.
Mindustry hosting options compared
| Approach | Ongoing administration | Availability | Control | Typical use |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Built-in LAN/Steam host | Very low; start a game and invite players | Only while the host’s game remains open | Limited to in-game options | Small, local, temporary sessions |
| Managed Mindustry host | Provider handles much of the machine and game setup | Designed for an always-on server, subject to the provider’s plan and operations | Game panel, files, maps and mods vary by provider | Groups that want convenience and support |
| Self-managed VPS/cloud VM | You install Java, the server JAR, firewall rules, updates and monitoring | Runs independently of your personal game client | Highest control over files, commands and networking | Administrators who want flexibility or already operate servers |
| Self-hosted dedicated machine | You provide hardware, power, network and maintenance | Depends on your connection and electricity | Full control | Experienced operators with suitable infrastructure |
The official documentation discusses cloud hosting and a dedicated provider VM as public-server options. A rented machine avoids exposing a home connection and usually gives you a more predictable place to run the process.

What managed Mindustry hosting actually provides
A managed provider advertises Mindustry-specific plans and supplies a control panel or support process for tasks that would otherwise be yours. The exact boundary differs by company: “managed” does not mean every update, backup, mod installation, or recovery operation is included.
A 2026 iTechGuides comparison identifies AxentHost, Sparked Host, GameTeam.io and GHosting among current Mindustry offerings. That page is a commercial comparison, not an independent latency, uptime or backup-restoration test. Treat those names as candidates to investigate rather than a ranking or proof that any one is fastest or most reliable.
Verify these items on the provider’s live plan page
| Question | Why it changes the decision |
|---|---|
| Which Mindustry release and server builds are supported? | A plan that cannot run the release your group uses may require a workaround or migration. |
| What player limit is included? | A low slot limit can make a cheap plan unsuitable for a growing community. |
| Can you upload maps, plugins or mods? | Some groups need file-manager or SFTP access rather than a locked preset. |
| What controls are available? | Check whether the panel exposes console commands, scheduled restarts, configuration files and log access. |
| How do backups work? | Ask how often backups run, how long they are retained, where they are stored, and whether you can restore a specific point yourself. |
| Where is the server located? | Choose a region geographically close to most players to reduce avoidable network delay. |
| What support is included? | Confirm support hours, response expectations and whether staff help with Mindustry-specific issues or only infrastructure. |
| Which security protections are included? | Check firewalling, DDoS mitigation, account security and access controls instead of assuming they are included. |
| What is the complete price? | Compare the recurring rate, billing period, setup fees, renewal price, taxes and any paid add-ons. |
| How do cancellation, refunds and data export work? | You need to know whether you can download your world and how much notice or unused-time refund is available. |
Because prices, regions, supported versions and partner programs change, read the provider’s own current terms immediately before ordering. Do not infer uptime, latency or restoration quality from a plan’s feature list.
When a self-managed VPS or cloud VM is the better choice
A VPS gives you a general-purpose Linux or Windows machine. You decide which Java runtime to install, which Mindustry release to run, how to organize files, and how to expose the service. That flexibility is useful for custom maps, scripted maintenance, unusual configurations or administrators who already know server operations.

What you must operate yourself
- Install and update Java.
- Download and replace the Mindustry server JAR when you choose to change releases.
- Launch the process and keep it running after disconnecting from your terminal.
- Configure the operating-system firewall and, where applicable, the upstream network firewall.
- Manage maps, configuration files, access permissions and mods.
- Create, test and retain backups; a provider snapshot is not automatically a tested game-world restore.
- Investigate crashes, failed updates, full disks and connectivity problems.
The official material does not establish a universal minimum RAM, CPU allocation or player-to-resource ratio. Do not buy a plan based on an invented “minimum requirement.” Start with a modest machine appropriate to your group, monitor actual CPU, memory, storage and network use, and resize when the workload demonstrates a need.
How do I set up a dedicated Mindustry server?
The official setup flow applies to a dedicated Linux or Windows machine. Names of packages and paths differ by operating system, but the required sequence is the same.
- Prepare the machine. Use a Linux or Windows computer that can remain online. For a public server, a cloud VM or dedicated provider machine avoids making your home connection the public endpoint.
- Install Java. Install a Java runtime supported by the Mindustry server release you intend to run. Keep the installation updated through your operating system’s normal process.
- Download the desired server release. Place the Mindustry server JAR in a directory dedicated to the server’s files. Keep the release version recorded so you can roll back if an update causes a problem.
- Launch the server JAR. From that directory, run the documented command, replacing the filename with your downloaded file:
java -jar [server].jar. - Host a map. At the server console, use
host <mapname> [mode]. Replace<mapname>with the map identifier and add the mode when required by your setup. - Allow the game port through the firewall. The Windows guidance specifies allowing port 6567 for both TCP and UDP. Apply equivalent inbound rules on Linux or any cloud firewall attached to the VM.
- Test locally first. Join from a client on the same network before troubleshooting internet access. This separates a server-process problem from a router or firewall problem.
- Keep the process available. Use your operating system’s normal service or session-management tools so the server does not stop merely because you close an interactive terminal. Confirm that it restarts cleanly after a planned reboot.
- Document access and recovery. Record the server address, release version, map files, configuration changes and backup location. Do not rely on memory when you need to restore a world.
The command and map syntax above are the core setup facts; consult the current official server documentation for release-specific options before adding flags or automation.

How can I play with someone across networks?
Players on different home networks need a reachable server address. The official FAQ describes port forwarding and sharing the host IP for cross-network play.

- Five pursuit (polyomino) cards are available each round. You roll five dice to assign colors to those shapes. Then you have to decide which shape to draw on your brain board.
- Along the way, you can earn points by drawing green shapes or by completely filling in sections of your brain.
- After 12 rounds, the game is scored, and points can be earned by completing sections of the brain, achieving public goal cards, and meeting the organizational criteria of each color.

- Give the server machine a stable private address on the local network, or create a DHCP reservation in the router.
- Forward external port 6567 to that machine’s port 6567. Forward both TCP and UDP, matching the firewall rules on the server.
- Allow the same traffic in the operating-system firewall and, for a cloud VM, in the provider’s network firewall or security group.
- Find the connection address that remote players should use and share only that address with the people who need it.
- Test from a genuinely different network, such as a phone hotspot. Testing from inside the same LAN can succeed even when internet forwarding is wrong.
If remote players still cannot connect
- Server console never started: confirm Java is installed and rerun
java -jar [server].jarfrom the correct directory. - Local players cannot connect: check that a map was opened with
host <mapname> [mode], then verify the local firewall. - Local works, remote fails: check both TCP and UDP rules, the router’s forwarding destination, the cloud firewall and the address being shared.
- It worked until the router rebooted: verify that the server’s private address did not change; update the forwarding rule or reserve the address.
- Only some players fail: compare their network restrictions and geographical route. A server can be reachable from one network while blocked by another.
Do not expose a home public IP casually. The official wiki warns about home hosting and presents cloud or a dedicated provider VM as an alternative for public servers. Limit who receives the address, keep the host and Java patched, and remove forwarding when the server is no longer needed.
Independent reader supportYour contribution helps us test, update, and keep practical guides available for everyone.A practical framework for comparing plans
Use the following questions in order. They prevent a low monthly price from hiding administration work or an unsuitable location.
| Decision area | Questions to answer before purchase |
|---|---|
| Setup and maintenance | Will the provider install Java and the server, or will you? Who applies Mindustry updates and diagnoses a failed start? |
| Mindustry fit | Is your required release supported? Can you manage custom maps, mods, server files and console commands? |
| Access and location | Where is the machine physically located? Can all players connect without unusual routing or port restrictions? |
| Operations | What player cap, restart controls, logs, uptime commitment, support channel, backup schedule and restoration method are documented? |
| Security | Are firewalling, DDoS mitigation, account protections and staff access controls explained? |
| Cost and terms | What is the recurring price after any introductory period? What billing interval, taxes, add-ons, refund policy and cancellation process apply? |
| Exit plan | Can you download the world, configuration and logs in a usable format before cancelling? |
If a provider does not answer a question, mark it “not stated” rather than assuming the most favorable answer.
Do these 3 things before closing this tab:
1Fix the driver behind crashes, sound loss and screen glitches2Repair Windows errors before they cause bigger problems3Scan for outdated or missing drivers - takes under a minuteCosts, backups and reliability: what the available evidence can and cannot tell you
No published statistic or independent benchmark in the available material establishes a best provider’s uptime, latency, capacity or backup-restoration success. Listing a plan, a price or a feature is not the same as measuring service quality. Ask for the current service-level terms and test the controls during any trial or refund window.
Best Value
- Fast-paced arcade-style game where players trade prize tokens to work their way up to giant stuffed hippos.
- Combines set collection, strategy and hand management for engaging family gameplay.
- Includes trade cards, prize tokens and ultimate prize cards for exciting tiered rewards.
- Easy to learn with quick 20-minute playtime—great for family nights and group play.
- Strategy game for ages 6+ and 2–5 players; first to collect 3 hippos wins.
For a fair total-cost comparison, include more than the advertised monthly number:
- Recurring charge and billing period.
- Renewal price after an introductory offer.
- Setup, migration, storage, extra-slot and backup fees.
- Tax and currency conversion for your region.
- Your time spent on updates, troubleshooting and recovery if you self-manage.
Backups deserve a specific test. Find out whether they are automatic, how many generations are retained, whether files are stored separately from the server, and whether restoration overwrites the current world. A backup that cannot be downloaded or restored predictably is not equivalent to a verified recovery plan.
Which approach should you choose?
Choose built-in hosting when
- Everyone is nearby on one network.
- The session is temporary.
- You do not need the world online while the host is away.
Choose managed hosting when
- You want an always-on server without maintaining Linux/Windows, Java and firewall rules.
- You value a game-specific panel and support more than unrestricted machine access.
- You have confirmed the provider’s current version support, location, limits, backups and cancellation terms.
Choose a VPS or cloud VM when
- You need control over the operating system, files, release timing or custom configuration.
- You can maintain Java, the JAR, networking, security and backups.
- You prefer a rented public machine to exposing a home connection.
Choose a self-hosted dedicated machine when
- You already have suitable hardware, power and network service.
- You understand that availability ends when the machine, connection or electricity fails.
- You accept responsibility for every software and security decision.
Bottom line
There is no evidence-based single “best” Mindustry host for 2026. Start with the built-in host for a small local group; move to managed hosting when convenience and support justify a recurring fee; and use a VPS/cloud VM when control and customization outweigh administration. Whichever route you take, confirm the live Mindustry version, player limits, location, backup restoration, security, full recurring cost and cancellation terms before committing.
