Buy in this order for a first playthrough: Metro 2033 Redux, Metro: Last Light Redux, then Metro Exodus. The simplest complete purchase is the Metro Saga Bundle, which combines the two Redux remasters with Metro Exodus Gold Edition. If you already own the first two games, choose Metro Exodus Gold Edition instead; it pairs the Exodus base game with its two named story expansions, The Two Colonels and Sam’s Story.

The names matter. “Redux” identifies the remastered editions of the first two Metro games, while “Gold Edition” is the Exodus package intended for buyers who want the base game and its bonus downloadable content. A listing that says only “Metro Exodus” should not be treated as the Gold Edition without checking its included-content field.

What order should you play the Metro games?

Metro 2033 Redux
This is the starting point for the series’ narrative and world. The Redux label means you are buying the remastered version of Metro 2033, not a separate sequel or an expansion.

Metro: Last Light Redux
Play the Redux version of Metro: Last Light second. It follows the first game’s position in the trilogy and is the other remaster included in the Metro Saga Bundle.

Metro Exodus
Metro Exodus is the third core game in the bundle’s sequence. Once the main campaign is complete, its two story expansions can be played as additional Exodus content.

This order is preferable for a first playthrough because it preserves the narrative progression without requiring you to infer earlier events from a later game. Starting with Exodus is reasonable if you already know the first two stories or only want its campaign, but it is not the recommended route for a newcomer.
What is in the Metro Saga Bundle?
The complete bundle contains three game entries, with the third presented as the Gold Edition:

That wording answers the most common bundle question: the Saga Bundle is not merely a discount on the first two Redux games. It adds Exodus in its Gold Edition form, so it is the broadest single package for someone starting with no Metro games.
Does Metro Exodus Gold Edition include the DLC?
Yes. The Gold Edition is the focused Exodus purchase when you want the base game and both named story expansions. The expansions are:
The Two Colonels
The Two Colonels is one of the two story expansions associated with Metro Exodus. It is included in the Gold Edition’s bonus-DLC offering according to the store description.
Sam’s Story
Sam’s Story is the second named Exodus expansion. The official Metro announcement describes it as “The second Expansion for Metro Exodus” and lists Xbox One, PlayStation 4, PC and Stadia as its release platforms.
Store pages can display included content differently: one may show a single Gold Edition entitlement, while another may list the base game and expansions as separate downloadable items. Look for both expansion names, or an explicit statement that all bonus DLC is included, before completing a purchase. Do not assume that owning a standard Exodus SKU automatically grants either expansion.

“Metro Redux” can mean the remastered pair of Metro 2033 and Metro: Last Light, whereas “Metro Saga Bundle” adds Metro Exodus Gold Edition. Choose between them using ownership and intended play length rather than the names alone.

If you already have one of the Redux games, compare the live price of the remaining individual game, the Redux pair and the Saga Bundle. A bundle can still be convenient, but you may pay for a duplicate entitlement. Storefront discounts and subscription catalogs change, so there is no permanent price threshold at which one option is always cheaper.
Platform and edition checks before you buy
Use the store associated with the device on which you intend to play. Xbox, PlayStation and PC listings can use different SKU names, package layouts and upgrade policies even when the headline bundle name is similar.
Xbox
- Confirm that the listing is the Metro Saga Bundle, not a Redux-only package or a standard Exodus edition.
- Open the included-content section and verify all three game names.
- For an Exodus-only purchase, verify that Gold Edition is specified and that both The Two Colonels and Sam’s Story are listed or covered by “all bonus DLC.”
- Check whether the page describes a version for your console generation and whether any current-generation enhancement is a separate SKU.
PlayStation
- Check the console generation shown on the product page. A PS4 listing and a current-generation listing can have different entitlements or upgrade rules.
- Use the edition label, not only the artwork, to distinguish Gold Edition from the standard Exodus release.
- Review the regional store page in the account region that will own the purchase; availability and pricing can differ by region.
PC
- Confirm which PC storefront is selling the package and whether the purchase delivers one library entry or several.
- Read the system requirements and operating-system notes on that live listing.
- Check the DLC tab or package contents for the two Exodus expansions rather than relying on a retailer’s shortened title.
The official release information for Sam’s Story names Xbox One, PlayStation 4, PC and Stadia. That historical platform list does not by itself establish present-day current-generation support, backward compatibility or an upgrade path. Those details are storefront-specific and should be verified on the current product page.

Digital edition, physical disc and duplicate ownership
Digital purchase
Digital editions are usually the easiest way to confirm entitlements because the store page can enumerate every included game and expansion. Save the order confirmation and the exact edition name. If the store creates separate library entries for the base game and DLC, install the expansion entries from the same account after installing Exodus.
Physical purchase
Physical availability, disc contents and included download codes vary by platform, region and print run. A box marked “Gold” is not sufficient evidence that every expansion code is unused or that the disc is compatible with your console generation. Before buying used media, confirm whether any DLC code has already been redeemed and whether the seller’s region matches your account.

Sign in to the intended account and inspect its library before purchasing. Then compare:

- The cost of the missing game or expansion individually.
- The cost of a larger bundle that may include duplicate games.
- Whether a bundle grants a version you can actually install on your device.
There is no universal “best deal” without those three checks because sales, subscriptions, regions and existing ownership change the calculation.

How to verify a listing step by step
- Identify your platform and region. Open the Xbox, PlayStation or PC store tied to the account that will play the games.
- Search the exact package name. Use “Metro Saga Bundle” for the complete collection or “Metro Exodus Gold Edition” when you need Exodus and its expansions.
- Open the full product details. Do not rely on a search-result thumbnail or a retailer’s abbreviated title.
- Read the included-content list. For the Saga Bundle, look for Metro 2033 Redux, Metro: Last Light Redux and Metro Exodus Gold Edition. For Gold Edition, look for Exodus plus The Two Colonels and Sam’s Story, or an explicit all-bonus-DLC statement.
- Check compatibility and edition notes. Verify console generation, backward compatibility, upgrade language and PC operating-system requirements as applicable.
- Check ownership and price. Compare the live total with what is already in your library. Treat sale prices and subscription access as temporary conditions, not permanent specifications.
- Complete the purchase only after the SKU matches. Keep the receipt and return to the library to confirm that every entitlement appears.
Installing and finding the Exodus expansions
After buying Gold Edition or the Saga Bundle, install Metro Exodus first. Then check the game’s manage-content, add-ons or downloadable-content area for the two expansion entries. Store labels differ, but the names should remain recognizable.
- If an expansion shows a price, confirm that you are signed into the purchasing account and that the base game and DLC are from the same storefront and region.
- If the expansion is owned but not installed, start its download from the game’s add-on list rather than buying it again.
- If the add-on is not visible, restart the store or library, refresh licenses or entitlements using the platform’s normal account tools, and check the order history.
- If a physical copy supplied a code, verify that the code was redeemed in the correct region and that it has not already been used.
Do not infer missing content from the word “Gold” alone when troubleshooting. The decisive evidence is the entitlement or add-on list attached to your account.

No single price is reliable for this guide because digital promotions, subscription catalogs, regional taxes, physical stock and platform storefronts change frequently. Use a live check at the time of purchase and record whether the displayed amount is a sale price, a recurring subscription benefit or the normal one-time purchase price.
When comparing two offers, normalize them to the same content:

Common buying mistakes and fixes
Mistake: buying standard Exodus when you expected the expansions
Fix: Return to the listing and confirm Gold Edition or the explicit inclusion of The Two Colonels and Sam’s Story. If the purchase is already complete, check the add-on store and your order history before paying again.
Mistake: assuming Redux means the entire trilogy
Fix: Redux refers to the remastered first and second games. Exodus appears only when the product description names it, as in the Metro Saga Bundle.
Mistake: buying a duplicate bundle after owning games individually
Fix: Inspect your library and calculate the cost of the missing content. A bundle may be convenient, but duplicate licenses do not necessarily reduce the price.

- Have you played either Redux game? If no, start with the Metro Saga Bundle unless the live price or platform availability makes separate purchases materially better.
- Do you already own both Redux games? If yes, compare the standard and Gold Exodus listings; choose Gold when you want both story expansions.
- Do you want only the first two campaigns? Choose the Redux pair and avoid paying for Exodus content you do not intend to play.
- Do you care about physical ownership? Check region, disc compatibility and DLC-code status before treating a physical Gold listing as complete.
- Are you moving between console generations? Confirm the exact upgrade or backward-compatibility policy for your storefront rather than assuming the older purchase transfers.
For most new players, the answer remains the Metro Saga Bundle because it aligns the purchase with the recommended story order and includes Gold Edition’s Exodus content. For an existing owner of the first two games, Metro Exodus Gold Edition is the narrower, cleaner purchase.
