There is no single best Maya Mobile replacement. The right choice depends on every country on your itinerary, how much high-speed data you need, whether tethering matters, how long the trip lasts, and whether your phone is eSIM-compatible and carrier-unlocked. Airalo, Holafly, Saily, and Ubigi are the most relevant alternatives to compare, but their packages are not interchangeable.
Use the live offer for your destination and travel dates at checkout. Coverage counts and headline “unlimited” labels are provider claims; they do not guarantee the same network access, speed policy, or hotspot rights in every country.
Quick answer: which alternative fits which trip?
- Choose Airalo when you want country, regional, or global package choices and need to check tethering terms carefully.
- Choose Holafly when a destination package advertised with unlimited data and app-or-QR installation is more important than a simple fixed-gigabyte comparison. Read the package’s fair-use and hotspot rules first.
- Choose Saily when broad destination selection and app-based setup are priorities, provided your phone is eSIM-compatible and unlocked.
- Choose Ubigi when its package for every stop on your route matches your data needs and your unlocked phone is supported.
- Keep Maya Mobile in the comparison if its one-time 3-, 7-, 14-, or 30-day global package fits your dates and you prefer a clearly defined 24-hour plan day.
Do not rank providers by country count alone. A package can omit a stop, apply a reduced-speed threshold, restrict tethering, or start its validity at a different moment from another provider’s plan.

What to compare before replacing Maya Mobile
1. Every destination, including short stopovers
Provider-wide figures describe a catalogue, not your purchased package. List every country, territory, airport stop, ferry destination, and cruise port. Then open the exact package and confirm that each location appears in its coverage list. This matters especially for regional and global bundles, where the advertised reach can differ from the countries included in a particular offer.

2. High-speed data policy
“Unlimited” is a plan label, not a promise of unlimited full-speed use. Look for a daily high-speed allowance, reduced-speed language, fair-use conditions, and any network-management policy. Airalo specifically says hotspot use on unlimited plans is subject to the plan’s daily high-speed allowance and fair-use policy. Treat similar wording from other providers as a reason to inspect the package details rather than assuming unrestricted tethering.
3. Validity and activation trigger
Check whether validity begins when you install the eSIM, when it first connects to a covered network, or when you manually activate the plan. Maya states that a plan day is 24 hours from the moment the plan starts. Other services can present different validity choices or activation triggers, so install timing matters if you buy before departure.
4. Tethering, calls, and SMS
Some travelers need a laptop connection, a second phone, or a hotspot for a group. Confirm that tethering is permitted and identify any speed or fair-use limit. The offers covered here are primarily data connectivity. If you need a local telephone number, traditional voice calls, or SMS for banking and reservations, check the specific package and keep an appropriate primary-line option available.

5. Phone compatibility and carrier lock
eSIM support and carrier unlocking are separate requirements. A phone can contain eSIM hardware and still refuse a plan because it is locked to a carrier. Saily and Ubigi both state that the device must be eSIM-compatible and carrier-unlocked. Verify the exact model and regional variant with the manufacturer and provider before purchase.
6. Total checkout cost
Compare the same destination, number of days, data expectation, hotspot requirement, and currency. A low starting price for a short country plan is not directly comparable with a longer regional or unlimited package. Recheck the live checkout total because displayed prices and package inventories can change.
Provider comparison
The figures in this table are provider-stated catalogue or product-page claims viewed on October 13, 2026. They are not independent coverage audits, and package-level terms can differ.

Airalo: flexible country, regional, and global choices
Airalo is a useful Maya alternative when your route does not fit a single-country purchase. Its catalogue exposes country, regional, and global categories, so you can compare a local package against one bundle for several stops. The provider says unlimited packages are available in more than 130 countries.
The important qualification is the data policy. Airalo says hotspot is supported on unlimited plans, but tethered use is governed by the plan’s daily high-speed allowance and fair-use policy. That makes Airalo worth considering for laptop work or sharing data only after you have read the specific package’s speed and tethering language.
When Airalo makes sense
- Your itinerary crosses borders and a regional package is simpler than buying several country plans.
- You want to compare fixed allowances with an unlimited-labelled option in one catalogue.
- You need hotspot capability and are willing to check the daily high-speed limit.
What to verify
- Every country on the route appears in the selected package, not merely in Airalo’s overall catalogue.
- The daily high-speed amount and what happens after it is reached.
- Whether tethering is enabled for that exact package and whether fair-use restrictions apply.
- The validity period and the event that starts it.
Holafly: destination plans with unlimited-data wording
Holafly’s current homepage promotes destination plans using unlimited-data wording, installation through its app or a QR code, 24/7 support, and a monthly global plan. This positioning can appeal to travelers who would rather avoid calculating a fixed gigabyte allowance.
Read “unlimited” as the provider’s package label. Before paying, inspect the package-specific fair-use policy, reduced-speed conditions, hotspot rules, covered destinations, validity, and final price. Two plans carrying the same headline can have different tethering or speed terms.
When Holafly makes sense
- You expect heavy phone use and prefer an unlimited-labelled destination offer.
- You want app or QR installation with around-the-clock support advertised by the provider.
- A monthly global option matches a long, multi-country trip better than several short plans.
What to verify
- Whether hotspot is included, capped, or excluded.
- Any fair-use threshold or speed reduction after sustained use.
- The exact countries and validity period in the package you are buying.
- Whether the plan starts on installation or first network connection.
Saily: broad destination choice with app setup
Saily advertises plans in more than 200 destinations and uses its app for setup. It is a reasonable option for travelers who want to browse destination offers and manage installation from a phone rather than handling a separate purchase flow for every stop.
Saily’s help guidance specifies two practical prerequisites: the phone must support eSIM and it must be carrier-unlocked. Check both before purchase. A device that supports physical dual-SIM but lacks eSIM hardware will not meet the requirement, and an eSIM-capable phone can still be blocked by a carrier lock.

When Saily makes sense
- You want a large destination catalogue and app-led installation.
- Your phone is confirmed eSIM-compatible and unlocked.
- You prefer choosing a destination plan after reviewing its allowance and validity in the app.
What to verify
- The package includes every country you will actually visit.
- The app’s displayed allowance, validity, activation rule, and hotspot terms.
- Whether your phone model and regional variant are supported.
- How the service handles support if installation fails while you are abroad.
Ubigi: a large catalogue, but package-level checking is essential
Ubigi advertises data plans in more than 200 destinations. That broad catalogue can be useful for a complex itinerary, but the provider-wide figure is not a guarantee that every destination appears in every regional or global package. Open the actual offer and check the route country by country.
Ubigi also requires an eSIM-compatible, carrier-unlocked device. Confirm those conditions before buying, then compare the package’s allowance, speed policy, validity, activation trigger, and tethering rules with the alternatives.
When Ubigi makes sense
- Your route includes destinations that are difficult to combine in a single local plan.
- You want to compare a Ubigi package directly with another provider’s offer for the same dates.
- Your phone passes the eSIM and carrier-unlock checks.
What to verify
- Destination inclusion in the exact package.
- Data allowance and any reduced-speed or fair-use condition.
- Hotspot permission and any tethering limit.
- Validity and activation behavior.

Maya states coverage of more than 165 countries and 20-plus cruise lines. Treat that as Maya’s own coverage claim, not an independent audit. Compare its selected global package with the destination, regional, or global offer from another provider using the same itinerary and dates.
How to choose an alternative step by step
- Write the itinerary. Include all countries, territories, cruise stops, and border crossings. Do not rely on the airport name or the first country in the trip.
- Confirm the phone. Check the manufacturer’s specifications for eSIM support, identify the exact regional model, and verify that the phone is carrier-unlocked.
- Set your data requirement. Estimate navigation, messaging, video, work calls, streaming, and laptop use. Decide whether you need a fixed allowance or an unlimited-labelled package.
- Filter for tethering. If you will use a laptop or share data, reject offers that exclude hotspot or impose a limit you cannot accept.
- Compare validity and activation. Match the package length to the trip and determine when the clock begins. Buying early is safe only if installation does not start validity prematurely.
- Check calls and SMS. If you need a local number or traditional text messages, confirm that the offer provides them. Otherwise, keep your primary SIM available for essential account verification.
- Compare the final checkout totals. Use the same currency and compare equivalent days, destinations, allowance, and tethering terms.
- Install while connected to reliable Wi-Fi. Follow the provider’s app or QR instructions, label the travel eSIM clearly, and keep the purchase email or activation details accessible.
- Select the travel line for data after arrival. Keep the primary line available only if you understand its roaming settings and possible charges. Test data with a simple webpage before relying on navigation or work services.
Installation and troubleshooting checks
If the eSIM will not install
- Confirm the phone is unlocked and supports eSIM; these are prerequisites stated by Saily and Ubigi.
- Use a stable Wi-Fi connection and the provider’s current app or QR instructions.
- Check that the activation details belong to the package you purchased and have not already been used.
- Contact the provider’s support channel before deleting an installed profile, because removing it can make recovery harder.
If the eSIM installs but has no data
- Confirm that the travel eSIM is selected as the mobile-data line.
- Check that the destination is included in the purchased package and that the validity period has started.
- Toggle the travel line off and on, then restart the phone.
- Review the package’s network, speed, and fair-use conditions before assuming the service is defective.
- Use the provider’s support option if the phone still cannot connect.
If hotspot does not work
- Re-read the package’s tethering rule; support on one plan does not prove support on another.
- Check whether a daily high-speed allowance or fair-use policy has been reached.
- Test the phone’s hotspot only after mobile data works directly on the handset.
Why older Maya comparisons can mislead
A Holafly-authored Maya comparison says its information was accurate on February 6, 2026. Its catalogue and pricing description differs from Maya’s currently surfaced global page, so it should be treated as a dated snapshot rather than current evidence. Do not reuse old Maya prices, durations, or categorical rankings without checking Maya’s live plan page.
Decision checklist for common itineraries
One country for a short trip
Compare the destination-specific offers from all four alternatives with Maya’s 3- or 7-day option. The cheapest headline price is useful only when validity, allowance, and activation timing match.

Several neighboring countries
Start with Airalo’s regional category and the regional or global offers from the other providers. Verify each border country in the selected package and compare the total against buying separate country plans.
Quick wins for a faster PC:
Repair Windows errors before they cause bigger problemsFix Now →Scan for outdated or missing drivers - takes under a minuteDriver Scan →Long trip with heavy usage
Examine Holafly’s unlimited-labelled offer, Airalo’s unlimited package, and any long-validity fixed-data plan. Focus on high-speed thresholds, fair-use rules, and tethering rather than the word “unlimited.”
Cruise itinerary
Check whether the package covers each port and whether the provider’s stated cruise-line reach applies to your sailing. Cellular service at sea can differ from service in port, so do not treat a country list as an onboard connectivity guarantee.
Phone locked to a carrier
Do not buy an eSIM plan until the carrier unlock is confirmed. An unlocked eSIM-compatible phone generally avoids the need for new hardware; if your model cannot use eSIM, verify regional compatibility before considering a replacement device.
The Bottom Line
For most travelers, compare Airalo, Holafly, Saily, and Ubigi against Maya’s live package for the exact itinerary—not against a provider-wide country count. The winning plan is the one whose destinations, high-speed policy, hotspot rules, validity, device requirements, and checkout price fit your trip.
