If you want a two-person Steam game with the cooperative spirit of LEGO adventures, start with It Takes Two. It is built specifically for two players, supports local and online co-op, shared or split screen, and Steam Remote Play Together. Choose Unravel Two for gentler puzzle-platforming, Overcooked! 2 for frantic short sessions and up to four local players, or Sackboy: A Big Adventure for the closest colorful 3D platforming substitute.
None of these games is a LEGO title, so the match depends on which part of the LEGO formula you value most: a structured two-player campaign, cooperative puzzles, family-friendly 3D movement, or easy-to-start couch chaos.
At a glance: which game should two people choose?
| Game | Co-op options listed on Steam | Maximum local players stated | Primary style | Best fit |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| It Takes Two | Local co-op, online co-op, shared/split-screen co-op, Remote Play Together | Two-player design | Structured cooperative adventure | Players who want a campaign designed around exactly two people |
| Unravel Two | Local co-op, shared/split-screen co-op, Remote Play Together | Two Yarnys; two-player focus | Gentle puzzle-platforming | Partners who prefer traversal, timing and a softer presentation |
| Overcooked! 2 | Local co-op, online co-op, shared/split-screen co-op, Remote Play Together | Up to four local players | Arcade cooking and communication | Groups that enjoy hectic rounds more than exploration |
| Sackboy: A Big Adventure | Local co-op, online co-op, shared/split-screen co-op, four-player local play | Up to four local players | Colorful 3D multiplayer platforming | Players seeking the nearest 3D platforming replacement for LEGO games |

It Takes Two is the most direct recommendation when the main requirement is a cooperative adventure that expects two participants. Steam lists local co-op, online co-op, shared or split-screen co-op, and Remote Play Together. The game’s store description explicitly invites a friend to join through Friend’s Pass and describes a campaign built around working together through varied gameplay challenges.
#1 Best Overall
- The galaxy is yours with Lego Star Wars: The Skywalker Saga, Play all nine saga films and experience fun filled adventure in a galaxy far, far away
- Play through all nine films in a new, fun filled adventure
That two-player focus is the key distinction. Instead of adapting a solo game for a second person or treating extra players as optional helpers, the design assumes two people are present. This makes it the best choice when both players want equal responsibility and a campaign with a clear cooperative rhythm.
Why it feels closest to a LEGO-style partnership
- Constant cooperation: The campaign is organized around solving challenges together rather than taking turns.
- Flexible play location: You can play on one PC with local co-op, connect online, or use Steam Remote Play Together when only one person owns and runs the game.
- Shared or split-screen presentation: Steam lists both forms of co-op display, so the game can accommodate local play without requiring two separate computers.
- Low ambiguity about party size: It is designed for two players, avoiding the question of whether a third or fourth participant will dilute the experience.
Release date and storefront reception
Steam lists a release date of March 25, 2021. At the time of the 2026 storefront capture, English-language reviews were 95% positive across 48,292 reviews. That is a Steam user-review percentage, not an independently controlled quality score; treat it as a useful popularity signal rather than a universal verdict.
Choose it when
- You want one continuous two-person campaign rather than a collection of short rounds.
- Both players enjoy learning mechanics together and communicating throughout the adventure.
- You need local, online and Remote Play Together options in one listing.
- You want the recommendation that most clearly answers “What should two people play together on Steam?”
2. Unravel Two: the gentlest puzzle-platforming option
Unravel Two is a better fit for players who associate LEGO games with approachable platforming, environmental puzzles and a calm, family-friendly tone rather than constant action. Steam lists local co-op, shared or split-screen co-op and Remote Play Together. Its description centers on two Yarnys forming a bond in seamless local co-op.
Quick wins for a faster PC:
Scan for outdated or missing drivers - takes under a minuteDriver Scan →Repair Windows errors before they cause bigger problemsFix Now →Fix the driver behind crashes, sound loss and screen glitchesFind Drivers →The two-character premise makes it naturally suited to a pair. Each player has a defined on-screen character, while progress depends on coordinating movement and solving traversal problems. The result is cooperative platforming that generally feels more deliberate than an arcade party game.
How its emphasis differs from LEGO platformers
- Pacing: The attraction is measured movement and puzzle solving, not rapid-fire competition.
- Presentation: It uses a softer visual and emotional tone, which can suit younger players or adults who want a relaxed session.
- Screen format: Steam lists shared or split-screen co-op for local play, plus Remote Play Together for a pair playing over the internet.
- Party size: The store description’s “Two Yarnys” framing makes two the natural number, unlike games designed around four-player groups.
Release date and storefront reception
Steam lists June 9, 2018 as the release date. The 2026 storefront capture showed 74% positive English reviews from 2,838 reviews. Because the review sample and percentage are tied to that capture, they should not be read as a permanent rating or as a controlled comparison with the other games in this list.
Rank #2
- Fly freely through the galaxy to discover many of the saga's most legendary locations
- Switch between films at will
- This is the ultimate LEGO Star Wars experience
Choose it when
- One or both players prefer puzzles and traversal to hectic reflex tests.
- You want a cooperative game that can be played locally without four controllers.
- You value a gentle presentation and a clear two-character relationship.
- You want Remote Play Together but do not need online matchmaking or a large party.
3. Overcooked! 2: the best choice for chaotic, communication-heavy sessions
Overcooked! 2 shares the couch-co-op accessibility of LEGO games but changes the activity completely. Steam lists local and online co-op, shared or split-screen co-op, Remote Play Together and four-player local play. Its store description presents a return to chaotic cooking action and supports teams of up to four.
For two people, the appeal is immediate: each round creates a compact task that rewards verbal coordination. You are not exploring a platforming level or progressing through a story built around two characters; you are dividing responsibilities, reacting to interruptions and trying to keep a kitchen operation moving.
The Tool Desk
Outbyte Driver Updater FREEFix the driver behind crashes, sound loss and screen glitchesFind Drivers →Outbyte PC Repair FREEClear out junk files and repair common Windows errorsFree Scan →What makes it useful as a LEGO alternative
- Instant co-op: A pair can begin working together quickly without learning a large campaign structure.
- Short-session friendly: Its round-based format suits evenings where players want several attempts rather than a long narrative commitment.
- Room for more people: Steam lists up to four local players, so the same purchase can support a larger couch group.
- Strong communication demand: Partners who enjoy calling out tasks and adapting under pressure may find it more engaging than slower puzzle games.
Important trade-off
The cooking format differs substantially from LEGO platforming. There is no reason to choose it if your priority is jumping through colorful 3D environments, collecting items or following a two-character adventure. Choose it because you want cooperative energy, not because the mechanics resemble LEGO games.
Release date and storefront reception
Steam lists August 7, 2018 as the release date. At the 2026 capture, 93% of 14,563 English reviews were positive. This percentage is a storefront indicator that can change over time, not an independent study of player satisfaction.
Choose it when
- You want two-player sessions that can be completed in short bursts.
- You enjoy pressure, mistakes, retries and constant verbal coordination.
- You may later add a third or fourth local player.
- You need both online and local options, including Remote Play Together.
4. Sackboy: A Big Adventure: the closest 3D platforming replacement
Sackboy: A Big Adventure is the strongest match when the part of LEGO games you miss is colorful 3D platforming with a family-friendly presentation. Steam describes it as a large 3D multiplayer platforming adventure and lists local co-op, online co-op, shared or split-screen co-op, and four-player local play.
Rank #3
- Play through all nine Star Wars saga films in a brand-new LEGO videogame unlike any other.
- Experience fun-filled adventures, whimsical humour, and the freedom to fully immerse yourself in the LEGO Star Wars universe like never before.
- Players have the freedom to seamlessly travel to any planet, in any order, at any time.
- Features hundreds of playable characters from throughout the galaxy. Choose from a legion of heroes like Luke Skywalker, Qui-Gonn Jinn, Chewbacca, Leia Organa, and Poe Dameron or turn to the dark side as Darth Vader, Kylo Ren, Darth Maul, Emperor Palpatine, and more.
- Whether on land or in space, hundreds of vehicles from across the galaxy are yours to command. Jump to light speed in the Millennium Falcon, fly the T-47 airspeeder as you take down AT-AT walkers on Hoth, and battle First Order TIE fighters in Resistance X-wings.
Unlike a dedicated two-player campaign, it is designed to accommodate larger groups. That flexibility is useful if the same PC will serve two players today and a family or friend group later. For a pair, however, the extra capacity does not prevent it from working as a two-person platformer.
Where it matches the LEGO feeling
- Three-dimensional movement: It is the list’s clearest choice for players who want to move through bright 3D stages rather than solve primarily abstract puzzles.
- Family-friendly framing: The presentation is suitable for players looking for an approachable shared game.
- Flexible party size: Steam lists four-player local play, giving it more headroom than two-player-focused alternatives.
- Multiple connection modes: Local, online and shared or split-screen co-op are listed on the store page.
Release date and storefront reception
Steam lists October 27, 2022 as the release date. The 2026 storefront capture recorded 82% positive English reviews across 1,737 reviews. As with the other figures here, that is a time-specific Steam review snapshot rather than a controlled benchmark.
Choose it when
- Platforming matters more than a tightly authored two-person story.
- You want local four-player support as an option for future sessions.
- You prefer colorful 3D stages and a family-oriented presentation.
- You are willing to trade the LEGO brand and building theme for a similar broad platforming shape.
How the four games differ on the decision points that matter
Local versus online play
All four games list a local co-op mode. It Takes Two, Overcooked! 2 and Sackboy also list online co-op, while Unravel Two’s listed options are local co-op, shared or split-screen co-op and Remote Play Together. If both players are in the same room, connect controllers to one PC and use the game’s local mode. If you are in different locations, select a title whose Steam listing explicitly includes online co-op or Remote Play Together.
Shared screen, split screen and Remote Play Together
Shared or split-screen support describes how one computer presents local players’ action. Remote Play Together is different: it streams the host’s game to another participant through Steam so the second player can join remotely. The store listings for It Takes Two, Unravel Two and Overcooked! 2 explicitly include Remote Play Together. Sackboy’s listed co-op modes include local and online play, shared or split-screen co-op and four-player local play; Remote Play Together is not stated in the supplied Steam feature list, so do not assume it is available for that title without checking its current store page.
Two players versus four-player flexibility
| If your priority is… | Best match | Reason |
|---|---|---|
| A campaign built around exactly two people | It Takes Two | The game is designed purely for two players. |
| Two-character puzzle-platforming | Unravel Two | Steam’s description centers on two Yarnys and cooperative traversal. |
| Adding friends locally later | Overcooked! 2 or Sackboy | Both list up to four local players. |
| 3D platforming above all else | Sackboy: A Big Adventure | Steam calls it a 3D multiplayer platforming adventure. |
| Fast, high-pressure communication | Overcooked! 2 | Its cooking-action format is built around chaotic teamwork. |
A practical selection guide for different pairs
For partners who want one long shared adventure
Pick It Takes Two. Its two-player design removes the need to negotiate whether a larger group would improve the experience. It is the clearest answer when both players want equal participation in a campaign rather than a sequence of unrelated challenges.
Rank #4
- Please note that although this game is Region Free or Region Unlocked and will work on all systems, this is the international version and may differ from the local version in age rating, labeling or instructions.
For a parent and child or a relaxed evening
Start with Unravel Two if the pair prefers slower problem solving and careful movement. Choose Sackboy instead if colorful 3D platforming is more important than a gentle puzzle focus.
For roommates, parties and changing group sizes
Choose Overcooked! 2 for compact rounds and up to four local players. Choose Sackboy if the group wants platforming rather than kitchen management. Both are more adaptable to a changing local party than the two-player-focused options.
For players in different homes
Check the connection method before buying. It Takes Two and Overcooked! 2 list online co-op and Remote Play Together. Unravel Two lists Remote Play Together and local co-op. Sackboy lists online co-op, but Remote Play Together is not included in the feature information available here. If only one person owns the game, Remote Play Together is the relevant feature to verify; if both own copies, online co-op may be the simpler route.

Local co-op on one PC
- Install the same game on the host PC and launch it through Steam.
- Connect the controllers before entering the game’s co-op or multiplayer menu. A PC game controller is the most natural accessory for these titles, and Steam lists full controller support for It Takes Two.
- Confirm that each controller is recognized separately in Steam’s controller settings and by the game.
- Choose local co-op, shared screen or split screen, depending on the title’s menu wording.
- Have the second player press the on-screen join button, then select the intended save, campaign or round.
Because the supplied Steam listings do not specify a universal button assignment or menu path, use the labels shown by your installed version rather than relying on a controller layout from another platform.
Remote Play Together
- Launch the game on the host PC.
- Open the Steam overlay and invite the second player through the Remote Play Together invitation.
- Give the invited player control access when Steam displays the session permissions.
- Ask the remote player to connect a controller before joining the game’s local co-op lobby.
- Start the local co-op mode. Remote Play Together makes the remote participant appear as another local player from the game’s perspective.
Remote streaming quality depends on both players’ network conditions. If input feels delayed, lower streaming quality, stop other high-bandwidth activity and test again before blaming the game’s co-op mode.
Best Value
- Compete in action packed lightsaber duels against Darth Maul
- Experience mind-blowing space battles in your starfighter
- Use the Force to construct items that access secret areas and help you overcome obstacles
- Play as many favorite characters such as Obi-Wan Kenobi, Anakin Skywalker, Yoda and more!

Online co-op
- Verify that the chosen game’s current Steam page still lists online co-op.
- Have both players launch the game and sign in to their Steam accounts.
- Use the game’s online or invite menu to create a session and send the Steam invitation.
- Confirm that both players have the required controllers and that the host has selected the intended campaign or mode.
Do not confuse online co-op with Remote Play Together. Online co-op normally treats each computer as a separate player station; Remote Play Together streams one host session.
Controller and room planning
- Two local players: Plan for two independently recognized controllers. Sharing one controller is not a substitute for the listed local co-op modes.
- Four-player games: Overcooked! 2 and Sackboy list up to four local players, but a two-person session does not require four controllers.
- Screen visibility: Shared-screen games are easiest when both players can read the same display. Split-screen games still benefit from a monitor large enough for two views.
- Remote sessions: Each participant should test voice communication separately, since the game feature list does not guarantee a particular voice-chat setup.
- Input troubleshooting: If the second player cannot join, disconnect unused controllers, reconnect the intended pad, restart the game after Steam detects it, and verify that the game is receiving input from player two.
Common mistakes when choosing a LEGO alternative
Expecting every game to reproduce LEGO mechanics
These recommendations reproduce different ingredients, not the LEGO license or exact formula. It Takes Two reproduces the idea of a purpose-built partnership. Unravel Two emphasizes cooperative puzzles. Overcooked! 2 delivers teamwork under pressure. Sackboy supplies colorful 3D platforming. Decide which ingredient matters before comparing ratings.
Using review percentages as a direct ranking
The captured figures are drawn from Steam’s English-language review percentages and sample sizes at one point in 2026. They are not normalized for release age, audience, price, updates or review volume. A 95% figure should not be treated as proof that every player will prefer one game over another.
What’s actually slowing this PC down?
Pick the symptom - the matching free tool is one click away.
Assuming the same remote mode exists everywhere
Feature lists differ. It Takes Two and Overcooked! 2 explicitly list online co-op and Remote Play Together. Unravel Two lists Remote Play Together but not online co-op in the supplied feature summary. Sackboy lists online co-op and four-player local play, while Remote Play Together is not stated. Check the live Steam page and your intended setup before purchasing.
Buying for four players when the pair wants a two-person story
Four-player capacity is useful, but it does not make a game a better two-player campaign. If the pair wants a narrative built around two participants, It Takes Two is the more precise match. If they want flexible party size, Overcooked! 2 or Sackboy is more practical.
Release dates and Steam review snapshots
| Game | Steam release date | English review snapshot captured in 2026 | How to interpret it |
|---|---|---|---|
| It Takes Two | March 25, 2021 | 95% positive from 48,292 reviews | Strong storefront reception at capture; not an independent study. |
| Unravel Two | June 9, 2018 | 74% positive from 2,838 reviews | Time-specific storefront percentage with a smaller sample than the other listed titles. |
| Overcooked! 2 | August 7, 2018 | 93% positive from 14,563 reviews | Storefront reception snapshot, not a controlled comparison. |
| Sackboy: A Big Adventure | October 27, 2022 | 82% positive from 1,737 reviews | Storefront reception snapshot that may change as reviews accumulate. |
Final recommendation by player type
- Best overall for exactly two players: It Takes Two.
- Best gentle puzzle-platformer: Unravel Two.
- Best hectic couch game: Overcooked! 2.
- Best 3D platforming substitute: Sackboy: A Big Adventure.
Start with It Takes Two unless you already know that your pair wants a different rhythm. Move to Unravel Two for calm cooperative traversal, Overcooked! 2 for chaotic rounds and a possible four-person group, or Sackboy for the closest 3D platforming shape. Checking the current Steam feature list before purchase is especially important when your decision depends on online co-op or Remote Play Together.
