What a $300 laptop can realistically do
A sub-$300 machine can handle browser tabs, webmail, online documents, video streaming, school portals, video meetings and other cloud-centered work. ChromeOS also supports Android and web applications. Those tasks are the reason a Chromebook can feel responsive despite inexpensive hardware: much of the software and storage work happens online.

ASUS lists both regular Chromebook CX15 products and Chromebook Plus CX15 products. The regular family is listed with up to 8GB of memory, while Plus models can reach 16GB, and processor choices vary. A family name therefore does not establish what a retailer includes. Use the number as a planning baseline: a half-day of mixed work is plausible, while an uninterrupted all-day schedule may require the charger. If battery endurance is your top priority, do not transfer the 9.5-hour TechRadar result for the ASUS Chromebook CM14 to the CX15. Lenovo Chromebook Duet 5 (2021): best for tablet-style media
The Duet 5 is a detachable Chromebook with a kickstand and keyboard. Its form factor is less convenient for long typing sessions, and the 2021 release date means age matters: check the unit’s physical condition, battery health, included keyboard, remaining ChromeOS support horizon and current price. Lenovo IdeaPad Slim 3i Chromebook 14 (2023): seek the exact Core i3/IPS version
RTINGS says the Core i3 configuration with an IPS display improves on the CX15 in performance and picture quality. That statement applies to the named 2023 configuration, not every IdeaPad Slim 3i Chromebook 14 listing. New stock at a reasonable price is the obstacle, so reject listings that substitute a slower processor, a different panel or an open-box unit without clearly stating the condition.

ASUS Chromebook CM14: do not confuse it with the CX15
TechRadar’s August 19, 2026 budget guide lists the CM14 at $299 and reports 9.5 hours in its battery test. The same guide says its 4GB memory restricts multitasking and the display lacks brightness and vibrancy. Its reviewer described the keyboard as having “well-spaced” keys with “enough tactility.” Those observations belong to the CM14 and should not be used to claim that the CX15 has the same battery, display or keyboard behavior.

The touchpad misses gestures
Install updates, clean and dry the touchpad, then test scrolling and dragging without an external mouse. If missed movements persist across apps, document the behavior and use the retailer’s return process; do not assume every CX15 has identical touchpad behavior.
