If you want a color e-reader, start with the Kobo Clara Colour: Kobo lists a 6-inch Kaleido 3 color E Ink screen in a compact reading-focused device. Choose the Kobo Libra Colour instead if you want page-turn buttons or stylus compatibility. The better fit depends not just on color, but also on screen size, controls, annotation needs, and the bookstore or software environment you prefer.
Which color e-reader should you consider?
The two color-screen alternatives directly supported by current manufacturer listings here are Kobo’s Clara Colour and Libra Colour. Kobo introduced both on April 10, 2024, describing them as its first color E Ink e-readers (Kobo’s announcement).
| Model | What the available product information establishes | Best fit |
|---|---|---|
| Kobo Clara Colour | 6-inch Kaleido 3 color E Ink screen, according to Kobo’s US catalog listing (Kobo product page). | Readers who want a compact device focused on reading. |
| Kobo Libra Colour | Color E Ink, page-turn buttons, screen rotation, and stylus compatibility, according to Kobo’s listing (Kobo product page). | Readers who value physical controls or want stylus-compatible annotation. |
The Libra’s stylus is described as separately sold by a current comparison, so check the accessory listing and compatibility before buying (TechRadar comparison).

Libra Colour: buttons and stylus compatibility
Kobo lists page-turn buttons, screen rotation, and stylus compatibility for the Libra Colour. Those features make it a more suitable comparison for readers who prefer physical controls or want to mark up reading material. The available sources do not establish a specific stylus model here, so confirm the accessory’s exact compatibility before purchasing.
How to choose between them
- Prioritize portability: The Clara Colour has a listed 6-inch display; check the current official specifications of any larger alternative before comparing dimensions.
- Prefer physical page controls: The Libra Colour is the listed Kobo option with page-turn buttons.
- Want to annotate: The Libra Colour is stylus-compatible; include the cost and availability of a compatible stylus in your decision.
- Consider your reading environment: Think about the bookstore and software you already use. The product sources cited here do not establish ecosystem-specific advantages, so check whether your preferred books and services work with a candidate before switching.
What about BOOX and PocketBook?
Current comparison coverage also names BOOX and PocketBook as color e-reader options. One comparison presents the BOOX Go Color 7 Gen II among its choices, but the sources available here do not verify that model’s specifications or current availability through an official product page. Treat those names as leads for further comparison, not as confirmed recommendations. Check manufacturer listings for the exact model, features, and regional availability before deciding.

What these sources don’t establish
The available product listings and comparisons do not settle which device has the best color fidelity, longest battery life, waterproofing, largest library catalog, or best overall value. They also do not establish a complete list of current color e-readers. Compare those factors using current, region-specific manufacturer and retailer information if they affect your choice.
