The best keyboard for an 11-inch iPad Pro is the one that matches your iPad’s generation before you compare typing features. Apple’s current Magic Keyboard is specified for the 11-inch iPad Pro (M4 and M5), while an earlier Magic Keyboard covers 11-inch iPad Pro generations 1 through 4. Logitech’s Combo Touch, Flip Folio, and Keys-To-Go 2 add alternatives, but Apple’s accessory listings alone do not prove that every version fits every iPad Pro generation. Treat compatibility, case design, trackpad needs, charging access, keyboard layout, and carrying setup as the deciding factors—not unverified claims about typing quality, weight, battery life, or durability.
First, identify which 11-inch iPad Pro you own
“iPad 11 Pro” is commonly used to mean the 11-inch iPad Pro, but it is not one single hardware generation. The 2024 Magic Keyboard is a different fit from the earlier model, so buying by screen size alone can result in an incompatible accessory.
- On the iPad, open Settings > General > About.
- Record the model name, chip or generation information, and model number.
- Match that information to the keyboard’s compatibility statement, not just to a product photograph or an “11-inch” label.
- Check the keyboard language and regional layout before ordering; a physically compatible case can still have the wrong key arrangement for your work.
Apple’s technical specifications identify two distinct Magic Keyboard compatibility groups:
- 2024 Magic Keyboard for iPad Pro 11-inch: listed for iPad Pro 11-inch with M4 and M5, and requires iPadOS 17.4 or later. Apple’s technical specifications identify the keyboard as introduced in 2024.
- Earlier Magic Keyboard for 11-inch iPad: listed for iPad Pro 11-inch generations 1, 2, 3, and 4, with iPadOS 14.5 or later. See Apple’s earlier technical specifications.
Those generation ranges are the most important purchasing fact in this category. If a listing does not name your exact generation, treat fit as unresolved and verify it with the manufacturer before buying.

Apple’s current 11-inch accessory page lists the Combo Touch, Flip Folio, and Keys-To-Go 2; its broader catalog also lists MX Keys Mini and Wave Keys. The listings are useful starting points, but they are not a universal compatibility guarantee. Check the exact product page, iPad generation, and regional layout for any third-party model. The current accessory catalog is available at Apple’s iPad Pro 11-inch (M5) keyboard page and Apple’s broader iPad keyboard catalog.
What the 2024 Magic Keyboard offers
Fit and software requirement
The 2024 model is the dedicated choice when your tablet is an 11-inch iPad Pro with an M4 or M5 chip. It requires iPadOS 17.4 or later, so an older operating-system installation should be updated before you diagnose a connection or feature problem. Apple’s specification is generation-specific; it should not be read as compatibility with every earlier 11-inch iPad Pro.
Trackpad and function row
This model adds a haptic trackpad and a 14-key function row. The function row can make common system controls easier to reach than keyboard shortcuts alone, while the trackpad supports a more laptop-like pointer workflow. These are documented hardware features, not evidence that the keyboard is objectively faster or more comfortable for every typist.

Random freezes, missing sound and display glitches usually trace back to one bad driver. Find and replace yours safely.Free scan · under a minuteKeys and backlighting
Apple specifies backlit scissor keys with 1 mm of key travel. The 1 mm figure is a manufacturer specification from 2024, not a comparative laboratory result. Backlighting is useful in dim rooms, but brightness behavior, noise, fatigue, and long-session comfort are not established by the cited material.
Charging and protection
A USB-C connector provides pass-through charging, allowing the iPad to be charged through the keyboard arrangement rather than requiring the cable to occupy the tablet’s own port. The design includes front and back protection. Because the keyboard is an attached case, the typing surface, support arrangement, and protective shell can travel as one setup; you do not have to pack a separate keyboard and stand.

Apple describes this keyboard as delivering “an amazing typing and trackpad experience in a sleek, portable design with an aluminium palm rest.” That is Apple’s manufacturer wording, not an independent performance evaluation. Read the complete specification at Apple Support.
When the earlier Magic Keyboard is the right match
Generations 1 through 4
If your 11-inch iPad Pro is a first-, second-, third-, or fourth-generation model, Apple’s earlier Magic Keyboard specification is the relevant starting point. It requires iPadOS 14.5 or later and lists a trackpad, backlit keys, USB-C pass-through charging, and a protective case design.
How it differs from the 2024 model
The published specifications for the earlier keyboard do not list the 2024 model’s 14-key function row, haptic-trackpad description, or 1 mm key-travel figure. Do not assume that a feature documented for the newer keyboard applies to the older one. Conversely, do not assume that an older keyboard will fit an M4 or M5 iPad Pro simply because both tablets have an 11-inch display.
Apple calls the earlier product “an amazing companion for iPad Pro 11-inch and iPad Air.” That sentence is promotional manufacturer copy, not independent evidence of typing quality. Review the generation and operating-system details in Apple’s technical specifications before purchasing.
How the Logitech alternatives fit into the decision
Combo Touch Keyboard Case
Apple lists the Logitech Combo Touch Keyboard Case for iPad Pro 11-inch on its M5 accessory page. The catalog mention does not establish that one Combo Touch unit fits every 11-inch iPad Pro generation. Use the exact Logitech product listing to confirm the model number, generation range, camera opening, and any required operating-system version.

- Flawless 4K@60Hz Video with HDMI: Delivers exceptional clarity and smoothness with its 4K@60Hz HDMI port, making it ideal for high-definition presentations and entertainment. (Note: Only the HDMI port supports video projection; the USB-C port is for data transfer only.)
- Double Up on Efficiency: The two USB-A 3.0 ports and a USB-C port support a fast 5Gbps data rate, significantly boosting your transfer speeds and improving productivity.

Its principal category advantage is the case-attached format: the keyboard can be considered together with the iPad’s stand and protection. Whether its trackpad behavior, key layout, charging method, or detachable sections suit you depends on the specific generation and unit, so those details should be verified rather than inferred from the Apple catalog name.
Do these 3 things before closing this tab:
1Repair Windows errors before they cause bigger problems2Scan for outdated or missing drivers - takes under a minute3Clear out junk files and repair common Windows errorsFlip Folio
Flip Folio appears in Apple’s current 11-inch accessory listing. Before selecting it, confirm whether the exact version is designed around your iPad Pro generation and whether the keyboard remains attached during transport. Also check the language and regional layout. A folio can be a good match for readers who value a cover-style carrying arrangement, but the cited catalog entry does not provide a universal fit statement or a complete feature specification.
Keys-To-Go 2
Keys-To-Go 2 is listed as an option for the 11-inch iPad accessory category. Treat it as a standalone-keyboard candidate unless the specific product documentation says otherwise. You will need to decide how the iPad will stand at the desired angle and how both pieces will be protected in a bag. Confirm the exact device fit and language/layout before ordering.
MX Keys Mini and Wave Keys
Apple’s broader keyboard catalog lists MX Keys Mini and Wave Keys as standalone keyboard options. That catalog placement does not make either one a dedicated iPad Pro case, nor does it establish a generation-specific fit. They make sense only if you already have—or plan to carry—a separate stand or protective case and are comfortable with a desk-oriented setup.
Attached case or standalone keyboard?
Choose an attached case when the whole setup must travel together
- The keyboard, support arrangement, and iPad protection are integrated.
- There is less to remember when moving between locations.
- USB-C pass-through charging is available on the Apple Magic Keyboard models described above.
- The case must be bought for the exact iPad generation; a similar screen size is not enough.
Choose a standalone keyboard when flexibility matters more
- You can position the keyboard independently from the iPad and use a preferred stand.
- A separate keyboard can also serve another compatible device, depending on the manufacturer’s specifications.
- You must carry and protect the keyboard, stand, and iPad as separate parts.
- The cited catalog does not provide a comparative weight, battery-life, or portability test, so do not assume a standalone option is lighter or more convenient.
Portability is therefore a configuration question, not a single weight ranking. An attached case usually minimizes the number of pieces; a standalone keyboard can offer a more adaptable desk arrangement but adds a carrying decision.

Use these criteria to select the best keyboard for your workflow
1. Exact generation fit
Start with the iPad model, then confirm the keyboard’s stated range. M4/M5 owners should begin with the 2024 Magic Keyboard specification. Owners of generations 1–4 should begin with the earlier Magic Keyboard specification. For third-party products, open the manufacturer’s listing and verify the exact generation instead of relying on Apple’s category page.
2. Trackpad requirement
If pointer control is central to your workflow, the 2024 Magic Keyboard explicitly lists a haptic trackpad, and the earlier Magic Keyboard lists a trackpad. For Logitech alternatives in the cited catalog, do not infer trackpad availability from the product family name; confirm it for the exact unit.
3. Function-row controls
The 2024 Apple keyboard specifies 14 function-row keys. If quick access to system controls matters, this is a documented distinction. The earlier specification and the Apple catalog entries for the Logitech alternatives do not establish an equivalent function-row configuration.
4. Charging and port access
Both Apple Magic Keyboard specifications list USB-C pass-through charging. That can simplify cable management while the iPad is mounted. The cited catalog entries do not establish the charging arrangement for each Logitech model, so inspect the exact product documentation.
5. Regional layout
Confirm the language and regional key layout at checkout. Layout differences can affect symbols, punctuation, modifier placement, and the legends printed on the keys. This check is essential for anyone switching between English variants or another language.
Best Value
- 5-in-1 Connectivity: Equipped with a 4K HDMI port, a 5 Gbps USB-C data port, two 5 Gbps USB-A ports, and a USB C 100W PD-IN port. Note: The USB C 100W PD-IN port supports only charging and does not support data transfer devices such as headphones or speakers.
- Powerful Pass-Through Charging: Supports up to 85W pass-through charging so you can power up your laptop while you use the hub. Note: Pass-through charging requires a charger (not included). Note: To achieve full power for iPad, we recommend using a 45W wall charger.
- Transfer Files in Seconds: Move files to and from your laptop at speeds of up to 5 Gbps via the USB-C and USB-A data ports. Note: The USB C 5Gbps Data port does not support video output.
- HD Display: Connect to the HDMI port to stream or mirror content to an external monitor in resolutions of up to 4K@30Hz. Note: The USB-C ports do not support video output.
- What You Get: Anker 332 USB-C Hub (5-in-1), welcome guide, our worry-free 18-month warranty, and friendly customer service.
6. Carrying configuration
Ask whether you want one attached unit or multiple pieces. A case keyboard combines typing, support, and protection; a standalone keyboard requires a separate stand and carrying plan. Neither arrangement is universally more portable without a measured weight and a defined travel setup.
Setup and troubleshooting checklist
- Confirm the generation: compare the iPad’s model information with the keyboard’s compatibility list.
- Update iPadOS: the 2024 Magic Keyboard requires iPadOS 17.4 or later; the earlier model requires iPadOS 14.5 or later.
- Inspect the physical fit: check that the camera opening, magnets or attachment points, and protective edges align before applying force.
- Test every documented control: verify the trackpad, backlighting, function row where present, and pass-through charging.
- Check the layout: type punctuation, symbols, number-row combinations, and your most-used shortcuts.
- Plan transport: decide whether the iPad can travel protected with the keyboard attached or whether a standalone keyboard needs its own sleeve and a separate iPad stand.
If a keyboard does not connect or sit correctly, stop using it and recheck generation compatibility first. An operating-system update cannot make a physically mismatched case fit. For a third-party model, use the manufacturer’s exact product listing and model identifier rather than assuming that an Apple accessory-page category applies to all versions.
What the available evidence does—and does not—prove
The documented specifications establish compatibility, listed features, and form factors. They do not establish a measured ranking for typing speed, comfort, key noise, fatigue, weight, battery life, durability, or real-world travel convenience. No independent reviewer, standards body, regulator, court, or named expert statement is identified in the available material, and no comparative test figure is supplied.
What’s actually slowing this PC down?
Pick the symptom - the matching free tool is one click away.
Accordingly, the defensible recommendation is feature-led: choose the 2024 Magic Keyboard when you have an M4/M5 11-inch iPad Pro and want its specified haptic trackpad, 14-key function row, 1 mm backlit scissor keys, pass-through charging, and integrated protection. Choose the earlier Magic Keyboard when your iPad is generations 1–4 and you want the documented trackpad, backlighting, pass-through charging, and case design. Consider Logitech’s listed alternatives when their exact generation fit, layout, and carrying arrangement match your needs, but verify those details at the product level.
