The best camera for both photos and video depends on what you need from each: still-image controls and resolution, video frame rates and formats, stabilization, handling, and a lens system you can build around. For a compact interchangeable-lens setup, consider the Sony Alpha 6700; for advanced full-frame video, the Nikon Z8; and for a video-oriented Micro Four Thirds system, the Panasonic LUMIX GH7. These are use-case recommendations based on listed features, not results from a controlled head-to-head test.
Which hybrid camera fits your priorities?
| Camera | Best fit | Specifications and trade-offs |
|---|---|---|
| Sony Alpha 6700 | Compact APS-C interchangeable-lens setup | Sony lists a 26.0MP APS-C sensor, 5-axis in-body stabilization rated up to 5.5 stops, 4K/60p using 6K oversampling, and 4K/120p with a crop. It uses Sony E-mount lenses and has one SDXC UHS-II card slot. The stabilization figure is a manufacturer rating, not a guarantee for every lens or movement. Sony product specifications. |
| Nikon Z8 | Advanced full-frame photo and video work | Nikon lists internal 8K/60p and 4K/120p recording, as well as video tools including focus peaking and waveform monitoring. The specifications make it a high-capability option, but do not establish a price or a controlled performance comparison with the other cameras here. Nikon product page. |
| Panasonic LUMIX GH7 | Video-oriented Micro Four Thirds system | Panasonic lists a 25.2MP sensor, Phase Hybrid AF, and ProRes RAW HQ support. Panasonic Australia lists the body at 805g with battery and SD card, excluding the lens; weight can differ by configuration and the figure is from that regional listing. Panasonic Australia specifications. |
| Panasonic LUMIX S5 II family | Full-frame system with a lens-kit route | Panasonic UK lists S5 II and S5 IIX variants, including kits with named L-mount lenses. Listed features include Phase Hybrid AF, Active I.S., and 10-bit C4K/4K modes. Check the exact regional model and kit contents before comparing it with a body-only offer. Panasonic UK product listing. |
| Nikon Z 6II | Still/video alternative with two card-slot types | Nikon lists CFexpress Type B/XQD and SD card slots. Its 4K/60p mode is DX-crop and 8-bit, so the resolution alone does not tell the whole story. The product page includes historical firmware information that should not be treated as current buying guidance. Nikon product page. |
These options use different sensor formats and lens mounts, so they are not interchangeable camera bodies. The best choice for you depends on the whole system—especially lens cost and availability, recording workflow, and whether you prioritize still photography or video.
How to compare cameras for both photos and video
Stills: resolution, controls, and shooting style
Consider whether a camera’s resolution suits your intended output, how its viewfinder and controls feel for stills, and whether its burst-shooting capabilities match your subjects. A feature-rich video body is not automatically the most comfortable choice for everyday photography.
Video: check more than resolution
For the resolution and frame rate you plan to record, verify the crop, bit depth, codec, readout behavior, and whether the camera can sustain the recording duration you need. The Alpha 6700’s 4K/120p crop and the Z 6II’s DX-crop, 8-bit 4K/60p illustrate why a headline resolution or frame rate is not enough. The official specifications cited here do not establish comparable recording duration or overheating performance across these cameras.

- Read Before You Buy — No Video Output: These adapters support charging and USB 2.0 data transfer, but cannot transmit video signals. Except for standard USB webcams (which use USB data only), they are not compatible with HDMI/DisplayPort cables, video-capable USB-C hubs, or docking stations with video output.
- Convert USB-A Ports to USB-C: Designed to connect USB-C earphones, cables, flash drives, card readers, and other USB-C accessories to standard USB-A ports. Plug-and-play with no drivers or software required.
- Aluminum Alloy Housing: Built with a sturdy aluminum alloy shell that aids in heat dissipation and protects against daily wear and scratches. Designed to maintain a stable and secure connection.
- Compact & Travel-Friendly: The ultra-compact design allows the adapter to stay plugged into your device without blocking adjacent ports or adding bulk, reducing wear and tear on your original USB ports.
- 12-Month Warranty: Backed by a 12-month manufacturer warranty for peace of mind. Designed to meet strict quality control standards for reliable everyday performance.
Focus, stabilization, and movement
Autofocus tracking matters when subjects move; in-body or lens stabilization can help with handheld footage, but neither eliminates movement in every situation. Treat manufacturer stabilization ratings as specifications rather than guaranteed results. Also consider whether your work involves a tripod, moving camera, or long handheld takes.
Lens system and kit contents
Lens mounts determine compatibility: the Alpha 6700 uses E-mount, while Panasonic’s S5 II listings identify L-mount kits. Sensor format, available focal lengths, and the cost of the lenses you need can matter more than a body’s headline feature. Compare like with like: body-only against body-only, or kits with the included lens identified.

Cards, audio, and monitoring
Check card type, slot count, audio connections, monitoring tools, and transfer needs against your workflow. The Alpha 6700 has one SDXC UHS-II slot; Nikon lists CFexpress Type B/XQD and SD slots for the Z 6II. Confirm the exact body’s media requirements before buying cards, particularly if you need redundant recording or a specific sustained data rate.

Choose the Sony Alpha 6700 for a compact APS-C system
The Alpha 6700 is a reasonable shortlist candidate when you want an interchangeable-lens camera in a compact APS-C system and value its listed stabilization and video modes. Note that Sony specifies a crop for 4K/120p and a single SDXC UHS-II slot. Compare the price of the body and the E-mount lenses you expect to use, rather than treating the camera body as the full cost of the system.

Choose the Nikon Z8 for advanced full-frame video tools
The Z8 is the advanced full-frame option among these picks, with Nikon listing internal 8K/60p and 4K/120p plus tools such as waveform monitoring and focus peaking. Whether those capabilities justify the system cost depends on your needs and budget; no comparable local price or controlled test is established here. Nikon’s product page quotes filmmaker Rodney Lucas: “The compact form factor lets this camera become part of me and how I flow as a filmmaker.” That is a testimonial, not comparative performance evidence. Nikon Z8 product page.
Choose the Panasonic GH7 for a video-centered Micro Four Thirds setup
The GH7 merits consideration if its video-oriented feature set, including Phase Hybrid AF and ProRes RAW HQ support, suits your workflow. Its Micro Four Thirds format and compatible lens ecosystem should be part of the decision, alongside the body’s specifications.

Consider the Panasonic S5 II family for a full-frame kit
Panasonic’s UK listing presents S5 II and S5 IIX variants with lens kits, Phase Hybrid AF, Active I.S., and 10-bit C4K/4K modes. The practical advantage of this route is the chance to compare a configured camera-and-lens package. Check the exact model, included lens, and regional availability before deciding.
Consider the Nikon Z 6II only with its 4K limitations in view
The Z 6II offers two card-slot types according to Nikon, but its specified 4K/60p mode is DX-crop and 8-bit. That may be acceptable for your needs, but it is a material distinction if full-width 4K/60p or a different bit depth is part of your requirement.
Best Value

How to make the final purchase decision
- Write down your must-have modes. Specify the still-photo features and exact video resolution, frame rate, crop tolerance, and bit depth you need.
- Match the body to a lens system. Identify compatible lenses for your subjects and budget, then compare body-only and lens-kit totals in your country.
- Check workflow requirements. Confirm card types and slots, audio and monitoring connections, transfer options, and recording duration for your intended use.
- Verify the exact listing. Check regional model name, bundle contents, current availability, recording limits, and media requirements with the manufacturer or retailer before ordering.
Current local prices, stock, and bundle contents are not established here, and product specifications or lineups can change. No comparable controlled test of image quality, autofocus, recording duration, or overheating across these candidates is available in the cited product pages. For broader editorial context, Digital Camera World’s hybrid-camera guide lists its own recommendations, including the Canon EOS R6 Mark III as best overall, Panasonic GH5 II as beginner, Nikon Z50 II as budget, Sony A7 V as advanced, Nikon Z8 as professional, and Sony A6700 as compact; those categories are that publication’s judgments, not universal rankings.
